Thanks for watching!
It is very heartening to hear about a couple of great authors that I have not read yet 😊
I admire your skill in conversing to the watcher and conveying much valuable information, to the point of jealousy 😉 Thank you! Regarding GGK, I'll be reading his first trilogy next.
Thank you, my friend, you are too kind! I hope you enjoy the Fionavar Tapestry! I know you had mentioned in your Janny Wurts review that you like to follow an author chronologically; I do as well, unless I mess it up at the start, then I just jump around haha!
Dresden and Feist in the same month?! How lucky are you? You’ve been picking some great titles and really enjoying the videos.
Thanks! This month certainly was great!
What a great reading month!! Can’t wait to check out Rendevous with Rama and some GGK this year - thanks for your recs on that!
I’ve been paused on Dresden since finishing Blood Rites a while ago, but I’d like to continue the series this year. I’m planning to chat with Ben from Books with Benghis Kahn about the series when I read book seven. Would you like to join us? Great video, Josh!
Would love it!
Count me in for book 7! Those are easy to fit into any TBR - just let me know when you plan on reading it.
@@RedFuryBooks Cool! How does late June-early July sound?
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy if we call it early July to have a chat mid to late July, that works for me! I'm out of the country until July 8, but will be able to do a lot of reading on buses, trains and airplanes!
@@RedFuryBooks Okay - I’ll be traveling in late July, but I think we have a window there!
Hooray! I'm so happy you enjoyed Blood Rites. I enjoy it too, that reveal is well done and gives Butcher so much scope to work with going into the next section of 'greater' story telling. Dead Beat, the next book, is when I went from finding enjoyment in Dresden to LOVING it. That's not a universal moment, but it does usually happen in the next couple of books. Once you get 'there', it will be very difficult to pace yourself so make no promises!
I love your wrap ups, you read such a wide variety of things.
I so love how Butcher is layering everything in this series: the world-building, the characterization and even the characters' appearances themselves. It's really fascinating to me! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Glad Blood Rites was a hit! The emotional chunk in the middle is a wonderful sequence, and I loved how you highlighted those themes of family and forgiveness. And let’s not forget Harry taking care of Mouse as another highlight!
Love hearing your gush on Tigana, and I can’t wait to get to that one, though my second and third GGK reads coming up will be Lions and Brightness Long Ago.
Yes, I'm definitely enjoying the Dresden files a lot right now!
Very reasonable take on Tress! I loved it, and it reminded me why I became a Sanderson fan--but I do agree with your criticism of Hoid as narrator. Humor is not one of Sanderson's many strengths as an author.
Glad you enjoyed Blood Rites! I'm looking forward to your continued thoughts on the series whenever you continue with it.
It looks like I'll be reading Dead Beat with Philip in July, so not that long of a break! haha
Midnight In Broad Daylight sounds absolutely fascinating. I've added it to my TBR. Thanks!
I hope you enjoy it!
My favorite April was probably Library at Mount Char.
Sounds like a great month! I have never read a memoir of someone that I wasn't already super interested in before, but your experience with Joe Jackson's story makes me want to branch out more! And nice to hear that Tigana was still an incredible read for you, I really need to bite the bullet on that one! My favourites in April were Empire of the Damned, The Crimson Court by Brendan Noble, Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez and Know My Name by Chanel Miller. Happy reading!
Yep, a solid month! Sounds like yours was as well!
Great update Josh! I’ve been wanting to check out Rendezvous with Rama. Might not be for me, but I’ll give it a shot. I’m really loving Tigana so far.
Rama is so short I think anyone can try it. I'm sure it's a fantastic read for the right reader! Glad you're enjoying Tigana too!
I'm a huge DF fan, been reading since 2001, back then you had to get them imported in to the Uk, now they are published over here.
The heights Dresden is going to reach for you in the current arc of the series will be spectacular. Gonna be real fun following your journey through it. It's good that you're taking a break, it'll make Dead Beat better with some time away, but don't wait too long! 😄
Oh, I won't have the control to wait TOO long haha
With those picks, no wonder you had a great month. You're better than me, once I got hooked on Dresden I couldn't read them at less than one a day until I was done. Midnight in Broad Daylight sounds very interesting, will have to check it out.
Yeah, I can see binging Dresden! I'm going to try to resist!
Midnight in Broad Daylight sounds like a harrowing but compelling read. I’ll probably skip reading that Clarke book. As someone who visualizes when reading, I can say that some authors write visual descriptions better than others. Great array of genres and writing styles in April!
Yes, April was a lot of fun to move in and out of genres and writing styles!
Tigsna made me cry so hard. Beautiful and it's my first Kay. Ysabel is next...
Glad you enjoyed Tigana!
Looove Rama. Needs a reread.
Geez. "A Japanese American family caught between two worlds". Sounds like my life 😂. Maybe too close to home but I'm going to look into it. I've never heard of it.
Danny, you'll likely get even more out of it, knowing both Hiroshima and Japanese culture as deeply as you do. It's a solid read!
It was nice to remember the Krondor Sons duology. I haven't read those books in years. I would re-read them, but there's never enough time.
There definitely is never enough time!
Rendezvous with Rama is my third-favorite science fiction book after Dune and The Martian Chronicles. I guess I love the hard science in this book = maybe that is why I really love The Three-Body Problem. No whimsical books for me.
Yeah, hard sci-fi is a no-go for me. This was right on the edge. I need to read the Martian Chronicles!
Hi Josh, sounds like April was a really good month of reading for you.
I remember enjoying Prince of The Blood and The King's Buccaneer back in the day.
Tigana was a great read also, GGK is consistently good.
I had good reading for April, but circumstances reduced the amount of my reading time. (job hunting)
I did read three books:
Dead Water - C A Fletcher
The Green Man - Anthology
Book Of Night - Holly Black
and one comic book:
Judge Dredd - The Complete Case Files 34
Book of the month was Dead Water, a really well put together folk horror.
I hope the job hunt went well!
@@RedFuryBooks looks like it, just waiting for some paperwork to be dealt with.
@@fithfath3615 great!
Blood Rites is so much fun. I do not understand the hate for it 🤷♀️ I adore Thomas and Harry's relationship. And MOUSE ❤❤
I look forward to all three of them going forward in the series!
Sounds like you had an excellent reading month in April, Josh. I usually read two-three books a month these days and my favorite read in April was The Lions of Al-Rassan by GGK. This is my 7th Kay novel I have read and considering that I will be visiting Spain (Barcelona & Madrid) in late August for vacation, a timely read.
The Lions of Al-Rassan is my 2nd GGK novel behind Children of Earth & Sky. But it’s a photo finish. Really enjoyed the story, worldbuilding, and character dymanics in a Spain that never was but could possibly be.
Tigana is my next GGK novel to read and looking forward to it. Have a great reading month for May! 👍🏿
I'm glad you loved Lions! Such a great book! I was talking with a friend today I hadn't seen for awhile that is also traveling to Spain but in a few weeks. I'm envious of you both!
I did really liked Lions of Al-Rassan. It’s been a couple of weeks since I finished it. I’m still thinking about Rodrigo and Jehane. An excellent novel.
Yes, I’m looking forward to my Spain trip. I will be there for 2 weeks and will be celebrating my birthday during my trip. A week in Barcelona and a week in Madrid. A much needed vacation.
I was told to read Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon for a historical perspective on Barcelona and The Fencing Master by Arturo Perez-Reverte for a historical perspective on Madrid.
I know you read historical fiction. Have you read either of these novels?
That's a great approach prior to travel. I haven't read any of those, But definitely see the appeal.
Have you read Snow Falling on Cedars? That is a fiction novel about a Japanese American family too prior to the war. It was fantastic,
I agree. Snow Falling on Cedars is a wonderful book.
Adding it the TBR right now!
So happy you liked a Cure for Gravity! In the last 40 years, Joe’s music ranges from pop/ rock to big band to classical to ragtime for his most recent release. Check out his discography and you will see his incredible range. 🎶
Thanks again for sending it to me!
Wow, full month!! Very nice.
The Joe Jackson memoir... crazy that you'd never even heard his music lol. Speaks to how good it is that it was still captivating! I wouldn't call myself a huge fan but I do know his first record (Look Sharp!) very well, and it's very very good. Pretty straight forward rock, and honestly has aged well (doesn't sound too 80s or anything, for the most part). If that sounds at all interesting, give it a listen! Might add some nice context to the memoir :)
Hey, the Feist!! I've those a coupe times, most recently just like 3-4 years ago and I don't recall the big info dumps but I'm probably blinded by nostalgia so I'll take your word lol. Glad you still enjoyed them despite that, I agree they're good coming of age stories and good world expansion, which as you pegged, is absolutely setup for the next saga in the cycle. Excited for you to read that!!
Oh but also how could you not mention the best new character -- Nakor??? He's amazinggggggg
Yes, I'll definitely listen to some Joe Jackson. His Look Sharp LP is about where the memoir ended!
I still enjoyed The King's Buccaneer quite a bit, but mid-book info dumps are tricky, and I don't think Feist did it very well here. Oh, and you're right about Nakor - he's the best! I hope he's around for awhile.
@@RedFuryBooks yesss hope you like the Joe Jackson!
And good, glad Nakor stuck out for you. And yes he’ll be in some more books, I’ll leave it at that. No spoilers!
I was thinking Sanderson should read those and see Nakor's humor. That's how Hoid should have been in Tress of the Emerald Sea!
@@RedFuryBooks haha that’s an interesting idea! I could get down with that. Hoid could just offer everyone an orange at all times and would instantly be funnier 😂
@@slidenaway can't wait to see more Nakor!
I think I liked the science and visuals of Rama more than you did, but for me it wasn’t Clarke’s strongest book either. I gave it 4 stars, and I think it could be a really cool movie.
Oh, I'd see a Rendezvous with Rama movie on opening weekend! I think my struggle with the visualization was more a me thing than a Clarke problem.
Grace of Kings ❤
I'll get there at some point! I loved his writing in his short story collection.
