  • So, the radiator in my Forester started to leak so I decided it was time for an upgrade from #koyorad
    Trans cooler I used: amzn.to/3bx5Es5
    No-spill coolant Funnel: amzn.to/3OIfWDI
    Or, Vacuum bleed the coolant: amzn.to/39RCxz7

    Good video. Two small recommendations. One don’t paint your coolers if you want max efficiency but it’s a very small trade off. Second I would love to see a transmission temperature gauge and know how that cooler is working. It’s pretty cool to see one doing these upgrades who actually uses the car. Definitely subscribing and please keep up the great work.

      I have thought about adding a temp gauge in line to see how hot the fluid gets. Would have been nice to have a baseline from the oem setup to compare to, oh well.

    My top tank split at 100000 Kilometres (60k miles) It was a bright sunny day (Australia) and the red on black instrument cluster is impossible to read in bright conditions. It wasn't until the aircon started blowing hot air that I realised I had a problem. Found the whole engine bay covered in green coolant. Got it trucked to my local mechanic who replaced it with a factory radiator. He advised me to keep an eye on the coolant level. I found it was using a considerable amount of coolant. I added a bottle of Radweld Cooling System leak repair. It has not consume any coolant since. That was 4 years ago. I was just lucky. According to Mr. Subaru the Radweld and Subaru Cooling System Conditioner are the same product.

      Mr. Subaru has some to notch comment.

    love the channel boss! i have an 04 FXT and I installed the Koyorad as well. When I bled my system, i have the same fill device that you have too, you can see the bubbles coming up and all that but I did my bleeding alittle differently, I filled the koyo all the way up and let it burp as normally as it would do itself (never turned the car on), then capped it and moved to the second coolant overflow by the turbo and put the funnel there and just did all the bleeding form that one with the car running. I turned the heat on full and let the fans kick on a few times and its been trouble free since then. I do have an accessport and i'll tell ya i've noticed at least 20 degree or so lower temps with changing my radiator to the koyo versus the stock radiator, it's been money well spent in my opinion. I'm itching to see you do some drives or videos of your new vtd swap versus the mtp you used to have back there, is the difference and feel as nice as they say it is? i have a 99 forester S that i want to do the swap on and I'm curious of your opinion of it all. thanks! keep up the great work

      Thank you, I do plan on doing a q&a video in the future and will give my thoughts on the vtd swap.

    Speaking from experience with my 05 XT, placing an ATF cooler near the radiator outlet will preheat your coolant on hot days and potentially overheat the engine. I would highly recommend installing the Dorman 918-287, or something similar, behind the front bumper.

      I think I’m experiencing this problem except it might be overheating the tranny. Engine seems normal.

    What year is your fxt? If you didn't fill through the top reservoir first, doesn't that mean your top coolant channel is empty therefore that coolant temp sensor is possibly reading an air gap until the thermostat opens? Idk I just feel like that's running awfully hot.

      I had the car on ramps making the radiator the high point since the coolant line from the aos is higher than the turbo coolant tank. I filled it till coolant filled that tank and burped the system, let it cool, and burped it again through the coolant tank. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
      I have been driving every day for 6 plus months without any issues. The coolant temperature is controlled by the thermostat abs bit the radiator. A bigger radiator will not lower coolant temperatures but will help with overheating under aggressive driving.

    I prefer the koyorad over the mishimoto

    is the radiator for a turbo engine different than one for a non-turbo engine? Since I'm going to rely on this video to replace the radiator in my 2009, I've subscribed. A little tough knowing what other parts I need, hoses, thermostat, etc.

      The answer to this question, if others are wondering: For the 2009 Foresters, the radiator is different for the manual transmission, the automatic, and the turbo.

    • @DIYEVERYTHING
      @DIYEVERYTHING  Рік тому +1

      Yes, as you said, they are different. Most aftermarket radiators don't have the radiator cooler built in for an auto transmission. That's why I had to add a trans cooler.

    Does the xt radiator fit on an 08 x mt

    • @DIYEVERYTHING
      @DIYEVERYTHING  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes, this resistor will fit all Foresters from 2004 to 2008 and possibly more. However, it does not have the built in transmission cooler for an automatic.
