Funnily enough the musical Six (about Henry's wives) compares Anne of Cleves' situation to a dating app. There's a line in her song that says "you said that I tricked ya/cause I didn't look like my profile picture" and they literally create a tinder-type setting in the show. It's really well done and also hilarious.
Katherine: *sleeps with another guy. Them: She deserved it. Cheating bad. Henry VIII: *slept with a lot of women outside of wed. Them: We sleep. Listen to "All you wanna do" ya'll. Get ready for the truth that'll be revealing.
right??? like,, katherine was also in a way, abused?? all she literally wanted was a friend in the palace and when she finally found one, that dude (who i believe is her cousin) also wanted her for her body (much like the previous guys or her "lovers" i think) and when howard rejecting him, he literally r*ped and blackmailed her for it at least from what i've been told
Also, apparently with the 5th wife when she was killed the axeman missed his mark on her neck and instead hit her upper back... so he has to swing again... she felt that first hit fully😬
That was common back then. Nearly Headless Nick in the Harry Potter books had many real life counterparts. There was one advisor who particularly annoyed Henry VIII so he arranged for a rookie axe man because he wanted the job REALLY botched.
Anne of Cleves portrait was actually accurate, Henry was just dumb and tried to impress her with a french tradition of cosplaying as a peasant even though she was german. She shouted at him and ecen when she apologized Henry insulted her

Henry wasn't painted to to look taller, he was in fact, by the standards of his day (and ours for that matter), quite tall- at least 6 feet. We know his height because his jousting armor is on display.
If I were to be completely honest, Catherine of Aragon got the worst deal, not only was she divorced and sent to a Nunnery, she was separated from her only daughter Mary, and according to reports and things like that, Catherine said: "I wish that he had killed me instead, anything is better than parting with my daughter."
1:07 - Producing a son was especially important for Henry since he didn't have any other close male relatives (brothers, nephews, male first cousins) to fall back on; his only living relatives closer than at least the third-cousin point were his two sisters.
Also, Catherine Howard and Anne Boleyn were cousins. He was also rumoured to have had a brief affair with Anne and Mary's Mother as a teenager (before being King), and Jane was also (more distantly) related to them.

She's actually really pretty.

I'm pretty sure she was blackmailed?
right??? like,, katherine was also in a way, abused?? all she literally wanted was a friend in the palace and when she finally found one, that dude (who i believe is her cousin) also wanted her for her body (much like the previous guys or her "lovers" i think) and when howard rejecting him, he literally r*ped and blackmailed her for it

Did you forget he killed a 17 year-old girl for being used by several men?!

1:07 - Producing a son was especially important for Henry since he didn't have any other close male relatives (brothers, nephews, male first cousins) to fall back on; his only living relatives closer than at least the third-cousin point were his two sisters.
His nephew was literally the King of Scotland.
Anne Bolyn’s older sister was also King Henry’s mistress before she met him, and he was rumored to have fathered two of her sister’s children.

Katheryn Howard had such a sad life. She wasn’t even 20 when she was put to death. Most of her “promiscuity” was probably more likely forced or coerced.
I love this channel but I wish they would research costumes when making the animations. I don't think they had Regency or Edwardian fashion back in the early 16th century.
The accident may have damaged Henry’s mind, but he was never above hurting the women in his life.
