I guess I get where you're coming from but If I was getting in a brawl or doing demanding physical activity, I'd still pick the most muscular and tall looking people out of a line up of randos. The average person is not absurdly athletic or trained in deathkwondo so size is absolutely a factor. Unless you look like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound sack and even then if you're pit against someone half your size still at an inherent advantage on some level.
This is interesting because my Grandma is half Icelandic and she has a picture of her standing up & holding my Grandfather in her arms on their wedding day.
My grandmother was from Japan with some Korean ancestry easily 6’2, 6’3 wide body and robust build. Grandfather half East Indian and half African American 5’6 or so and slender. Tap dancer from the 1940s. Used to grab him by the neck and pin him against the wall, squeeze his face in her pits whenever he would dare attempt to talk back or argue. She inherited the majority of the money in the end given to my mothers family in Japan and I inherited much of the super strength and otherworldly Asian genetics to put it bluntly.
Iceland was also where the vikings/rus would be exiled if they violated the rules in the mainland Norway/Sweden making them the wildest of the vikings...
Mushrooms are also what made the Aztec so fucking vicious and selfless in battle. When sacrifices were performed, shrooms were imbibed as commonly as modern day people drinking beer at a football game. An entire crowd of thousands of people all tripping on shrooms, watching a guy who is likely also dosed with shrooms getting his heart torn out. The intensity of the event cannot be overstated. Some sacrifices were done on willing volunteers. It's an entire culture built on the idea that pain is to be ignored or at worst simply acknowledged in passing. It was customary before any long journey to eat a ton of shrooms and contemplate your own death. Shrooms are these days the "hippie" drug, but historically and in my own experience shrooms really get you in touch with your own mortality in such an intense way that death doesn't even faze you anymore. Shrooms are used in treating PTSD because of how effective they are in removing the fear response. So when Joe says a bunch of muscled men on mushrooms, I would fear that even more than if they were on meth. Shrooms are an incredible performance enhancer for warriors. I really can't stress that enough. A man on shrooms will run on broken legs if he believes in his cause enough.
@@nickrodriguez3850 no but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they started doing it one day. It's commonly claimed by people who take shrooms (myself included) that there is an increase in athletic performance from it. Just because usada doesn't ban something doesn't mean it has no effect. It just means they haven't banned it yet. Saying that shrooms have no benefit to physical performance is an appeal to authority fallacy. They don't ban caffeine either for instance, even though caffeine enhances performance. So to claim shrooms don't enhance performance in experienced individuals because the usada hasn't banned them doesn't logically follow.
They didn't take psilocybin. They took amanita muscaria. That's where the term berserker comes from. They would go into these rabbid like states when they went into battle. Hasn't been proven tho.
@@sundvallen eh ? all i said was being bulky leads to problems if you use weapons. i'm not saying it's a bad thing to be bulky either so i don't exactly know why you're telling me to cope ?
I always thought Vikings were massive too but actually nearly all of the skeletal remains found of them are about 5'9 , just with thicker bones and more muscle than most people. Of course they got bigger than this, and then you get the monstrously sized humanoids all over the globe# giants etc.... But yeah, most vikings were not very tall, check it out. I was surprised too.
True, if you look at door sizes from that era, they clearly couldn't have been too huge. In general, Northern Europeans tend to be taller (English, Scandinavian German, Dutch etc.), but this seems to have developed after the viking age. It seems being tall and was a genetic advantage in Iceland for the last few hundred years, probably due to the harshness of the nature and low population (they couldn't get 10 people to push a cart, so they had to use 3).
This is true of course, but it's not so strange that the nords were considered large when the rest of european men were standing at roughly 5'6 on average. I remember seeing a documentary saying that nordic skeletons were about 2-4 inches taller than the anglo-saxons they fought against. Then again my memory is foggy and being scandinavian, I'm pretty biased 😂.
I am mostly Irish Scottish. I got a little Italian too but not much. Ancestry website is actually cool af. But anyways. Yea. When I get heated and triggered. I turn Hulk status like Joe was saying survival mode. Lol. If I need to pick up something heavy. I make battle cries while picking it up. Anyways yes. Vikings history and I can feel it in my blood really. Also when I listen to Irish or Scottish music. It just makes me feel so good. Makes me feel happy. That music hits that sweet spot ya know. Makes me want to gather everyone up in a Tavern and clank beer mugs while Irish folk dancing. Lol
According to most historians and archeologists the bones and skeletal remains found of most "vikings" were around 5'8 to 5'10, and many ended up in England with Danish ancestry which is why many parts of England were under Danelaw. Not many people were 6'9 and 300lbs plus in that time period if any. And there is still no evidence of any of them ever wearing "horns" on their helmets as well.
Yeah people really need to read some History. Not to mention they didnt had such great access to foof back the as well. Which was one the reasons many settled on the British Isle.
@@derekwoodcock2510 Still. The Vikings have been pretty fearsome warriors. But I think there is way too much focus on fighting and combat. Infact they did more trading and exploring than actual conquering. They would often also work as sort of mercenaries and they have probably exploited the fear of their enemies due to the fact that they attacked randomly with their raids and seen as "barbarians" to the christans.
There were giant people from those parts even in those days, the vikings were prized mercenairies in the Byzantine empire and they were notably larger than the greeks living there, also theres a record of Serbian emperor Dusan the mighty and his personal guard in which there was a swedish man who was over two meters tall and thats in the 14th century
It's so hard for me to read this chat. So many sharing such strong opinions yet don't know wtf they're talking about. Yes I agree joe doesn't have all his information straight on this topic but he is correct in what he's saying about the Scandinavian DNA. Due to Iceland's essentially non existent immigration policy they have protected their pure Norwegian bloodline by it not getting watered down by other cultures and races. Anyone who's actually been there can attest to their size. He's not saying they're all as big as Hafthor, but the entire population on average is much bigger and stronger than the rest of the world. The very fact to such a small population has produced so many world strongest men champions and competitors says it all. The other statements he's making about them all being on mushrooms when I'm reality it was only the berserkers that took them which is what put them in their fury mind state and gave birth to the word "berserk".
or it really is a minority event, how many people in the world know this event takes place?it,s popular in northern europe and doesn,t get big coverage elsewhere still good to watch though.

Bro what?? Not everyone in Scandinavia at that time were Vikings. Vikings were also renowned for not taking land; they would raid, take valuables and leave.
These dudes are just huge. Lucky by genetics, enough nutrition etc. Its not how Vikings looked like. Fact men were about 5 ft 7-3/4 in. tall and women 5 ft 2-1/2 in.
Viking DNA is not a mixture of different European ancestry. Almost every male during Viking times never even knew what existed outside of northern Europe. Lief Erikson was the first one to discover north America. And a lot of people from those bloodlines never even travelled outside of Scandinavia. Norweigans are a very proud and exclusive people as far as history goes
There are murals in turkey depicting them and stories even further east of them as hired bodyguards and traders. they seem to have gone quite abit further then people think@@beepboop9848

Dreaded are the times when Hafthor says, "I get to be on top"!
The AP story had me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love Connor McGregor in there fookin around with one of these Vikings 🤣🤣👍
Joe always has to go off in some weird direction usually involving mushrooms and Bigfoot.
Because he is doped up himself
His laugh is something else wow 😳
The small seal bit made me spit coffee at half six in the morning on my way to work. That fucking cracked me up!!! 😂😂😂😂
Dude in the thumbnail is a dairy farmer from a tiny town in rural Australia. Top bloke according to some of the locals who know his family.
Echuca is the town
Can't stop laughing! Luh me some Vikings! 🤘🤣
I'm confused as to why most of the opening footage Eddie Hall who is Britsh and is Thors enemy
a piece, a giant seal, elephant trunk .. those were too good references
Small seal ..... I have Viking blood and I suffer from celt hand or Viking wrist!
MUSHROOOOOM out of nowhere
Imagine having 500 men the size of Thor pillage your town
@Steve Pagani BC i know it didnt happen thats why i said imagine ding dong
@Steve Pagani BC lol i was just setting a scenario but ok nice comeback
Damn proud of my Viking blood!
Thats cool kid but dont make your 23% "viking" dna your entire personality... people will think you're a weirdo
“Talking about Iceland giants” “shows Eddie Hall”
My son is 6´5 and he is only 16, we are from Denmark. Viking DNA is here to
High fives McGregor and his wrist nearly folded over🤣
I'm telling you, if Thor wanted he could of killed conor
@@jasonaxiak6316 he'll yes
@@jasonaxiak6316 absolutely no doubt about that.
Does usada test for shrooms? 😂
David Goggins was on shrooms when he run with fractured legs ?
Iceland also produces the highest number of CrossFit female champions.
Can you post a link to the full podcast
They are fucking vikings, these are leftover marauders - damn that's a bad ass thing to say.
Featuring Viking is Eddie Hall, from England.
"Small seal in his pants" Ah ha ha ha!
“Who am I fighting?”
“Does it matter?”
Shakes head in Icelander.
They only started eating that shark within the last 200 years
Iceland still speaks the viking language
SMALL SEAL! LMFAO!
“A small seal in his pants”, Joe is very funny.
Damnn
They didn't take psilocybin. They took amanita muscaria. That's where the term berserker comes from. They would go into these rabbid like states when they went into battle. Hasn't been proven tho.
Psilocybin is the psychoactive substance found in most psychedelic mushrooms. Its not the name of the mushroom I don't think
Berserkers would often be in such a blood lust, they would massacre entire villages. Occasionally their own people..
It’s crazy the Mountain is the runt of the family.
He's clearly never been to Iceland. Most guys are pretty slim not muscle bound and just like every other modern Norwegian. Dude lives in his own mind.
He embellishes
Nah im Icelandic and 80% of men are strong and in a very good shape.
As a gay man i will tell you, penises don’t scale with height. Edit: I should know. I’ve seen hundreds of them
in battle being a bit too big means you can't swing your sword/axe etc the way you want, core strength is more important than visible strength
Stop coping lmfao

That's the ones that didn't make it back to the homeland right? 😂
@@spaak3465 its the steroids kid, sorry
5'9 was tall for that time
I am mostly Irish Scottish. Lol
More than 400 Viking swords have been found in Finland, of course more in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, also British, Denmark.
@CrniWuk exactly food was not as easy to get and preserve. People forget history books exist I guess.
@CrniWuk exactly, not all of it is as "Hollywood" as people think.
Football team didn't seem that big.

The mountain used to be skinny as a stick... for those who didnt know
McGregor still thinks he beat up the mountain
He looked terrified to me.

Joe here is trying to stir up the Eddie and Thor beef again. 😆
If anyone wasn't aware, vice did a piece on this.
I don't think Joe Rogan at all knows what he's talking about he might know but anyone from Scandinavia all Vikings were normally just Farmers that were skinny and not that buff but yes there were some buff Vikings their Farmers you know that right they want all these plunders and stuff and they called it Vikings they wanted to find a new land for their people new places to farm and get gold and money
Ever done much farm work? It tends to get ya in pretty damn good shape.
Bro what?? Not everyone in Scandinavia at that time were Vikings. Vikings were also renowned for not taking land; they would raid, take valuables and leave.
I think Rohan over Exaggerates this 😂

These dudes are just huge. Lucky by genetics, enough nutrition etc. Its not how Vikings looked like. Fact men were about 5 ft 7-3/4 in. tall and women 5 ft 2-1/2 in.
Every time i see the mountain and his wife same thing come to my mind
Viking DNA is not a mixture of different European ancestry. Almost every male during Viking times never even knew what existed outside of northern Europe. Lief Erikson was the first one to discover north America. And a lot of people from those bloodlines never even travelled outside of Scandinavia. Norweigans are a very proud and exclusive people as far as history goes
You literally just madr that shit up lmao. Vikings raided and traded outside of Scandinavia all the time. The went all the way to the Mediterranean
There are murals in turkey depicting them and stories even further east of them as hired bodyguards and traders. they seem to have gone quite abit further then people think@@beepboop9848
What are your thoughts?
My thoughts are joe doesn’t know anything about the actual Vikings and is apparently too arrogant to do research before spouting misinformation to everyone that watches his podcast. Most Vikings were shorter than the people of today. These strongmen he’s talking about are rare freaks of nature for any generation of humanity.
Icelandic nation is ca 350.000. persons.
