  • Trains in the street, Trams in the street are always fun to watch. This CSX streetrunner video was made in LaGrange Kentucky on the Louisville And Nashville Railway L&N LCL sub. Filmed Tuesday, January 17, 2017. I was there from 11:30am to 6pm and saw 4 trains. The last train with the Spirit of Maryland engine took the siding and was unable to load so the dispatcher took down the signal for them and called maintenance. This town is a no train horn town. Thanks for watching! Please comment, rate and SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

      iusetano - my mother's old apartment was like that. Right behind her garage was a track, although it didn't run down the middle of the street. Now we're in Florida. CSX main line barely half a mile away. Horns 24/7. I love hearing those horns!

    That is quite a sight to see; what looks like a tram rails is actually the real railway, just meters off the shops and windows. By the way, I wouldn't like to be in hurry in the morning and waiting for such a long train to pass, while being late for work in my parked car beside the tracks... awesome video though, cheers from Poland!

    I always think it's so neat to see street running! Baltimore city had tracks in the streets everywhere back in the day (before my time). Most have been taken up or paved over, but there's a few places where you can still see the tracks & cobblestone. Of course they're no longer used.

      fred
      Some early railroad lines were built to connect cities, but most towns popped up along those lines because the convenience the railroad offered. Today railroad right of way still supercedes that of local or even state right of way. If anyone wants the tracks moved they go through the federal government to do it.

    • @barkboingfloom
      @barkboingfloom 7 років тому +1

      Still doesn't explain why they built their town like that. In most towns a train has its own seperate corridor, usually behind building rather than in front of them. Just weird. How many other American towns are like this?

    • @gracethe1st789
      @gracethe1st789 7 років тому

      Battle Of Trenton
      There still is a lot of towns with street running. Over the years many tracks have been moved for one reason or another. I honestly couldn't tell you why when these tracks were put in many years ago why the town chose to develop this way.

  • @Stussmeister

    A very nicely-done video. One item of note is that trains, due to their massive size, appear to be traveling much slower than they actually are, which means a freight train that seems to be lumbering down the line may in fact be going 25-30 mph.

      I have seen a few close calls where people will try to back out into the middle of the street when a train is coming. Jaw Tooth today's trains are relatively silent unless they're pouring on the power and cars are being insulated for sound dampening in the cabin. I think that it should be the law that a train has to have on its bell if it's street running.

      Somewhere in this scenario, people in the town whether in cars or on foot need to be accountable for their actions. The city Commission is the one that mandates no horn. And the rail line was more than likely there before the city so it has the right of way.

    Congratulations on the beautiful video that shows the perfect harmony between a railroad and a city.

    Do you have a firehouse, and EMT services on both sides of the tracks? I'm just wondering, as a retired firefighter. Looks like a great place to live.

    I bet the railroad was there before the street and the town so it's actually , " Street runs down the railroad tracks"

    Fond memories of watching trains through the front window of Kaelin's Trackside Restaurant and snacking from the farmer's market on the courthouse lawn. a hotbed of auto rack traffic with big factories on each end of the line.

      We have visited all the restaurants on the strip. One of my favorite ones closed last year though. The farmers market and the automobile displays are always a great way to spend the day. Great town for visitors and all the shops are run by very nice people. Thanks for watching!

    Interesting. I'd like to know the history of why the town was built around a railway (or vise-versa) and why it wasn't moved.

      On some speculation, I think it's fair to assume the Railroad was built and the town was built around the Railroad as most towns/cities are. This situation is a bit odd in that you wonder if space was limited to have to resort to this. But do enjoy it nonetheless.

    I've only seen street running in person once, and that was Tacoma Rail (now the line is operated by PSAP/O&BRR) in the middle of Olympia, Wa. the tracks there are still active, and I plan to go out and film it.

    WOW That is crazy , didn't think trains rolling down streets still exist
    Wouldn't want to have an emergency of some kind on that street. Regardless VERY cool video.
    Thanks for posting

    I wonder what happens if you're in a hurry and then... oh sh*t.
    Actually it's not that dangerous if you apply some common sense. Same happens with any other street vehicles like trams.

      That sounds like a pretty good price! I tried to open your email messages but my email still isn't working. I can't open anything. It's been like that for a couple months but every once in a while it will open a message. I have a bunch of videos that I can't put together also. Our internet service is really bad and we complained to them a bunch of times. I can watch videos but not in HD and they keep stopping. I might have to go to the library to use their internet. I'm trying to get at least one video up before I go to Florida on Monday. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello to you and Tony!

    It's only dangerous if people don't drive safely on these streets. The street running stretches of rails are amazing because it's living history.

  • @Oktolibre

    Interesting thing I note here is, I don't see oil from locomotives dripped on the rail line.
    In India, you can see oil on rail sleepers leaked from the locomotive.

    Greetings from the UK. Several decades ago we had a similar set-up in a town on the south coast of England, called Weymouth. Back in the day, when the railways were nationalised (government owned), British Railways also ran ferries to the (British) Channel Islands off NW France. As a spotty faced youth a schoolfriend and I went on a camping trip to Guernsey, and the train ran through the streets of Weymouth to a harbour where we disembarked and boarded a ferry. I will never forget it. If you Google Earth "Custom House Quay Weymouth Dorset" you can just about make out the old tracks that are still there. Please do not comment on my spelling: it's English English ;-)

    How come I can't hear the horn?

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  7 років тому

      You cant hear the horn because this town is a no train horn town which means the trains are not allowed to use the horn unless in an emergency. I have a video of them using the horn in this town to prevent them from hitting someone. Thanks for watching!
