She said you don’t have to knit them in such bright crazy colors, choose your colors and even make them in one color, they are beautiful designs. She made one of his cardigans in a solid color and it is beautiful.

Still on clue 1 and I love/hate it! Then I saw clue 2 and got circus tent vibes and started questioning my life choices. Finally I saw what clue 2 looked like draped over someone’s shoulders and got excited again. Never a dull moment!
I am doing the #MKAL, and it was so refreshing to hear someone saying what I am thinking. I haven’t had a huge amount of time the last few weeks, and I am still trudging through part one and it’s killing me. Feels like I’m making no progress, but all the other people doing it is helping me keep going (maybe?)
Hi Kaci. I am also knitting the Twists & Turns mkal with Purl SoHo’s linen quill. My colors are Wheat Flour, Pale Mushroom and my accent color is Rosewood Pink. I questioned my yarn choice at first, however now I think the linen quill gives a beautiful texture to the shawl. YAY, for linen quill! Your color choices are beautiful! I know people who look forward to it every year & I wanted to give it a whirl… alas, the first clue proved to be my undoing. Maybe it was all the casting on and off… maybe it was - I agree - the circus 🎪 that I just couldn’t shake & imagining my red head plopped on top of the tent 🤡 - I dunno… I gave up. 🙈 But I’m glad you didn’t! I am done with Westknits MKAL 2022. It is the first time I decided to quit and frog the clues, that I have done. And I did clue 1 and 2 just in time ... Sorry, but NO. I’m quite new to your podcast but always enjoy listening and seeing your beautiful makes. I’m still working my way through those purls ! It’s my first ever shawl and MKAL 😂 I realised very quickly there was no way I could keep up with the clues but that’s fine.
I knit all of Clue 1 and then half of Section 2 before deciding I didn't like my yarn choices. I mean, I love the yarns together, just not for the MKAL. So I frogged and started over with some Cascade 220 fingering from my stash. I finished Clue 1 and have started the first section of twisted rib, but I have to finish a test knit before I can work on it any further. I also have to knit some Christmas gifts (a couple of sweaters and a whole bunch of socks) so the shawl might have to wait a while, but we'll see... I love the colours you've chosen! I wish it was easier to get hold of Purl Soho yarns in the UK so I could try the Linen Quill because it looks fantastic! Shelly x

I have seen finished clue 2 shawls and they look like butterfly wings to me (some people are saying dragon wings) I am enjoying it but I know that I will not finish in time and I have decided to “embrace my pace” I really like the colors that you chose, they look southwestern.
Oh Kaci…I definitely feel the same feelings about the MKal…I basically had FOMO when you said a few episodes back so I decided to join in (first time for me too)…I’m still on the purling section…my girls say my shawl is currently giving the “Sanderson Sister” vibes so I’ve thrown in a few extra colours …we’ll see….but oh my that purling! 😂
Gurl, I was thinking the same thing about all that purling! I was like wwhhhyyy and it did slow me down. I am just casting on the second cabled section this morning and I peaked at clue 3 and was like 😳 I am committed though and just have to trust the process! If this wasn't a mystery I wouldn't knit this,but I am so thankful to be knitting it because its so unlike anything I've ever knit! Its a fun experience and it will be a beautiful piece of art in the end; a wearable piece of art! Well, maybe not "traditional wearable" but still wearable! 😅
I love the colours in your mkal! To be honest I wish I had chosen the warmer colours I picked out previously, although I love my blue/grey with a dark red AC too. I am fully prepared to get a knitted circus tent at this point, and I'm leaning into it xD

Thank you again for a lovely episode. I’m knitting mkal. I’m still in second part of pattern. I also suffered a bit in part one. I’m happy I don’t mind purling. So next part will be ok for me. My colours are bit wilder than yours. My main is multicoloured with citron yellow and pink in it and for other main I have just my white leftover fingering weight yarn. For ac I’m also using leftovers colour will be lighter shades of grey. I’m assuming shape of this shawl might be something similar to Clockwork pattern. stephen mentioned in one of his episodes that he would like to design something new in that same shape.
I enjoy your podcast, thank you for all the work that goes into it. As to the boatneck on the Weekender, boatnecks are notorious for riding up the front neck. However, in case it’s helpful, when sewing a garment and front neck rides up, it means more fabric is needed in the upper back. The need for fabric in the upper back pulls the fabric from the front. I don’t know how that translates to knitting, but hope it’s helpful.
I love your weekender. It helps to see different people wearing it. I'm afraid that boatneck would drive me crazy. I just don't like sweaters that ride up on my neck in the front. The Aurelia Pullover is gorgeous! Good luck on your West Knits MKAL. It's too far out of my wheelhouse, but I love to see what everyone is doing with it. Thanks for sharing.
We’re almost West twins. I’m using Linen Quill in Kiln Red, Vintage Celadon and Peony Pink. It’s Thursday, and I am just finishing the second cable section. That clue 1 is the reason I will never knit a second!
So, I am with you about MKAL’s and West Knits patterns. I honestly have never done any of his patterns, but I am tempted by his dotted rays and vertices unite. I think that it is a really good thing to do his MKAL because otherwise you would never knit this shawl, lol! However, in the end you will have a beautiful piece of art but your color palette is so beautiful and wearable. I think because it is more of an art piece it may not necessarily be a casual shawl, maybe a fancy occasion accessory. Otherwise I think it would be nice displayed on your wall 😊
I really want to try the pressed flowers shawl. it looks beautiful. Clue 1 took a very long time for me. I am almost done with section 3 of Clue 2 and I feel like I might be able to catch up with Clue 3.
Haha, that's what I thought until l started the cable sections... they are lots of stitches. I've accepted that Clue 3 will just have to wait till I get there.
Oh my a podcast full of awesome goodness! I want to make the weekender light, soon as the MKAL is done. I'm on wing 2. I'm going to add another color in for the cable sections. My mc is deep purple. They would disappear ! So I'm going to pull in a lavendar I dyed up and decided I needed a lighter color. I have another color I may add for clue 3 that is variegated. Love the way you do your hair and include a scarf. I used to have long hair but no more. Fall must be absolutely gorgeous on your farm! I do wish I had picked earthy tones but I'm not going backwards at this point. And I do wear a lot of purple so hopefully I'll wear it once in awhile.

I absolutely love the colors for your MKAL. I will be participating in your KAL. I have my daughter asking for a sweater so this is perfect. I would prefer it after the holiday at the end of December. I have three children's birthdays coming up and I'm not going to be making anything in the meantime.
Suggestion for your cable mishap. My LYS helped me when I did the same thing. They had me pick up 3 stitches with a new piece of yarn at the point of the cable mishap, chain in a icord manner that was long enough to lay over the mishap to move the cable from leaning left vs right. Then I joined just below the cable and weaved the pieces into the back. Super hard to explain but I hope it helps 😊 The icord looked similar to the shrimps from last years MKAL. But we’re connected at the top and bottom of that cable section
Kaci I really like your accent colour, but I do like rusts and blues. Clue 3 is very interesting 🧐 I know how you feel about the cable, I did similar on my sweater no 20 but it’s in the back so I’m not worrying about it as I don’t have to see it 😂 I hope you feel better after your flu shot!
I have joined the SW MKAL - my first, as well as being the first shawl I've ever knitted. I am glad I don't have little people in the house, because this thing has caused an awful lot of R-rated language, let me tell you 🤣🤣 Much as I'd prefer a beautiful shawl (here's hoping), I still won't feel that it is a waste even if I don't like it. I am learning SO much! I held off on my cables, in order to see clue 3 - I wanted to add mohair, but wanted to make sure that it would look ok with whatever was coming up. Hmmm...well, cables are now on the needles, and so is the mohair :-D😂
@@YoungfolkKnits It was, and it would have been amazing as a sweater....but knitted the one side and frogged it again. I held it with my yarn (Holst Coast), and it just turned out too "heavy" compared to the rest...so now I'm playing with mohair held single, but I think it might be a lost cause. There's not much stitch definition in that mohair 🤣 Ah well, I'll keep going for a bit and see how it looks
Your projects are stunning! What size needle are you using for your Twists & Turns? I’m also using Linen Quill. I did Clue 1 with a size 4, as the pattern recommended. Once I knit the garter stitch short rows and twisted rib, it was not looking good. Way too loose. So I’m starting that section over using size 3 needles. Linen Quill is a light fingering and I wondered throughout Clue 1 if I should have gone down a needle size. Once I started that section, though, I was not about to start over!
I am working on a 4! But I know what you mean about the light fingering. I like a lot of drape tho so im ok with it. My stress has been high lately so that’s probably making my knitting tighten up 😅

Yes the purls were a struggle and I decided week 1 I will trea the mkal as a learning/social process with a bonus finished project to display. I am done with Westknits MKAL 2022. It is the first time I decided to quit and frog the clues, that I have done. And I did clue 1 and 2 just in time ... Sorry, but NO. I’m quite new to your podcast but always enjoy listening and seeing your beautiful makes. I’m still working my way through those purls ! It’s my first ever shawl and MKAL 😂 I realised very quickly there was no way I could keep up with the clues but that’s fine.

I knit all of Clue 1 and then half of Section 2 before deciding I didn't like my yarn choices. I mean, I love the yarns together, just not for the MKAL. So I frogged and started over with some Cascade 220 fingering from my stash. I finished Clue 1 and have started the first section of twisted rib, but I have to finish a test knit before I can work on it any further. I also have to knit some Christmas gifts (a couple of sweaters and a whole bunch of socks) so the shawl might have to wait a while, but we'll see... I love the colours you've chosen! I wish it was easier to get hold of Purl Soho yarns in the UK so I could try the Linen Quill because it looks fantastic!

Hi Kaci, I love your projects and I really enjoy your podcasts 😊 I am knitting Westknits mkal also and I have to agree that the first part was a lot of knitting. I have seen finished clue 2 shawls and they look like butterfly wings to me (some people are saying dragon wings) I am enjoying it but I know that I will not finish in time and I have decided to “embrace my pace” I really like the colors that you chose, they look southwestern.

Oh Kaci…I definitely feel the same feelings about the MKal…I basically had FOMO when you said a few episodes back so I decided to join in (first time for me too)…I’m still on the purling section…my girls say my shawl is currently giving the “Sanderson Sister” vibes so I’ve thrown in a few extra colours …we’ll see….but oh my that purling! 😂

If this wasn't a mystery I wouldn't knit this,but I am so thankful to be knitting it because its so unlike anything I've ever knit! Its a fun experience and it will be a beautiful piece of art in the end; a wearable piece of art! Well, maybe not "traditional wearable" but still wearable! 😅

I love the colours in your mkal! To be honest I wish I had chosen the warmer colours I picked out previously, although I love my blue/grey with a dark red AC too. I am fully prepared to get a knitted circus tent at this point, and I'm leaning into it xD

Oh my goodness! I share your exact sentiments about this catastrophic mkal! I think I'm hating it more than loving it, but too committed to give up now😆. I'm also just starting cables and I had to rip them out a good 5 times before I got my counts to match😖

I’m knitting mkal. I’m still in second part of pattern. I also suffered a bit in part one. I’m happy I don’t mind purling. So next part will be ok for me. My colours are bit wilder than yours. My main is multicoloured with citron yellow and pink in it and for other main I have just my white leftover fingering weight yarn. For ac I’m also using leftovers colour will be lighter shades of grey. I’m assuming shape of this shawl might be something similar to Clockwork pattern. stephen mentioned in one of his episodes that he would like to design something new in that same shape.

I enjoy your podcast, thank you for all the work that goes into it. As to the boatneck on the Weekender, boatnecks are notorious for riding up the front neck. However, in case it’s helpful, when sewing a garment and front neck rides up, it means more fabric is needed in the upper back. The need for fabric in the upper back pulls the fabric from the front. I don’t know how that translates to knitting, but hope it’s helpful.

Yes!! The first time I knit my weekender it was ginormous and I had to go to a size medium and never knit that size for myself!

I got a flu shot last Thursday and was feeling bad Thursday afternoon. Friday I was worse and by Saturday, I tested positive for Covid. 😞
I love your weekender. It helps to see different people wearing it. I'm afraid that boatneck would drive me crazy. I just don't like sweaters that ride up on my neck in the front. We’re almost West twins. I’m using Linen Quill in Kiln Red, Vintage Celadon and Peony Pink. It’s Thursday, and I am just finishing the second cable section. That clue 1 is the reason I will never knit a second!

So, I am with you about MKAL’s and West Knits patterns. I honestly have never done any of his patterns, but I am tempted by his dotted rays and vertices unite. I think that it is a really good thing to do his MKAL because otherwise you would never knit this shawl, lol! However, in the end you will have a beautiful piece of art but your color palette is so beautiful and wearable. I think because it is more of an art piece it may not necessarily be a casual shawl, maybe a fancy occasion accessory. Otherwise I think it would be nice displayed on your wall 😊

Clue 1 took a very long time for me. I am almost done with section 3 of Clue 2 and I feel like I might be able to catch up with Clue 3.
Haha, that's what I thought until l started the cable sections... they are lots of stitches. I've accepted that Clue 3 will just have to wait till I get there.

Oh my a podcast full of awesome goodness! I want to make the weekender light, soon as the MKAL is done. I'm on wing 2. I'm going to add another color in for the cable sections. My mc is deep purple. They would disappear ! So I'm going to pull in a lavendar I dyed up and decided I needed a lighter color. I have another color I may add for clue 3 that is variegated. Love the way you do your hair and include a scarf. I used to have long hair but no more. Fall must be absolutely gorgeous on your farm! I do wish I had picked earthy tones but I'm not going backwards at this point. And I do wear a lot of purple so hopefully I'll wear it once in awhile.

I absolutely love the colors for your MKAL. I will be participating in your KAL. I have my daughter asking for a sweater so this is perfect. I would prefer it after the holiday at the end of December. I have three children's birthdays coming up and I'm not going to be making anything in the meantime.

Suggestion for your cable mishap. My LYS helped me when I did the same thing. They had me pick up 3 stitches with a new piece of yarn at the point of the cable mishap, chain in a icord manner that was long enough to lay over the mishap to move the cable from leaning left vs right. Then I joined just below the cable and weaved the pieces into the back. Super hard to explain but I hope it helps 😊 The icord looked similar to the shrimps from last years MKAL. But we’re connected at the top and bottom of that cable section

I have joined the SW MKAL - my first, as well as being the first shawl I've ever knitted. I am glad I don't have little people in the house, because this thing has caused an awful lot of R-rated language, let me tell you 🤣🤣 Much as I'd prefer a beautiful shawl (here's hoping), I still won't feel that it is a waste even if I don't like it. I am learning SO much!
I held off on my cables, in order to see clue 3 - I wanted to add mohair, but wanted to make sure that it would look ok with whatever was coming up. Hmmm...well, cables are now on the needles, and so is the mohair :-D😂

@@YoungfolkKnits It was, and it would have been amazing as a sweater....but knitted the one side and frogged it again. I held it with my yarn (Holst Coast), and it just turned out too "heavy" compared to the rest...so now I'm playing with mohair held single, but I think it might be a lost cause. There's not much stitch definition in that mohair 🤣 Ah well, I'll keep going for a bit and see how it looks

Your projects are stunning! What size needle are you using for your Twists & Turns? I’m also using Linen Quill. I did Clue 1 with a size 4, as the pattern recommended. Once I knit the garter stitch short rows and twisted rib, it was not looking good. Way too loose. So I’m starting that section over using size 3 needles. Linen Quill is a light fingering and I wondered throughout Clue 1 if I should have gone down a needle size. Once I started that section, though, I was not about to start over!
I am working on a 4! But I know what you mean about the light fingering. I like a lot of drape tho so im ok with it. My stress has been high lately so that’s probably making my knitting tighten up 😅
