Hey Wes 👋, great video on the no crank. Hope you get to feeling better soon. The brakes on that dodge were just a little rough. But it would not be at Wes shop with out making some extra fun. You and the family have a great afternoon 👋
Someone is gonna say the brake hose was blocked because you pinched it, but in my experience they rust jack inside where that bracket is clamped around the hose where they bolt to the knuckle. They pinch inside there. Same thing happens to the Chevys. I've replaced many of those hoses.
Was little surprised he didn't catch that right off. And I replace calipers & hoses in pairs. Had too many weird initial brake application pull just doing one side.
My 2 cent "from a bar stool" is that the valve was failing and this is why that side was screwed, and when he pinched it the increased pressure shut it for good. So it was a good thing. Maybe the valve rusted/corroded? pretty sure that brake liquid is full of water.
Seen it happen on several vehicles, even ones without extra hold down brackets. I kinda figured the inner hose was breaking down over time & turning into a “1 way valve”, but I’ve never done an autopsy on a failed hose to verify my suspicions.
@@jeffs2809 Correct, interior of hose under release suction from master cylinder sucks shut, creating as you mentioned a check valve. This holds fluid and thus pads against rotor resulting in pad wear out. Most do not know that on brake release that there is a slight vacuum applied by the master cylinder. If you want to see it, just watch the piston when someone mashes the brake and then releases it after doing a brake job.
Often get the hose off that way. Once the hose is off, the fitting CAN USUALLY be freed up. Love you're dry sense of humor and the what next attitude you possess. It helps keep us sane. You, Eric O , and myself were lucky enough to have wives who married us as well as our business. Without their help and support, we as small shops could not make it. A cold drink and a smile goes a long way on a crappy day in the shop. Keep up the good work. THANKS. Oh and by the way, I did not unsubscribe.
I'm not sure why, but pretty much every 3/4 ton Ram I've worked on has extremely uneven brake wear like that. My theory is that the left front caliper is the shortest circuit of the hydraulic system so it gets the most pressure, but that isn't how hydraulics are supposed to work.
I hate how much we can do at home but now need computerized stuff to complete the job. I changed the sycro motor thing that changes the vent choice on a 2013 Caravan once. You still have to take it to the dealership to synchronize it. Such bs....
Wes, my new love affair for rusted up brake lines and fittings is to soak with Marvel mystery oil, Map gas torch heat lightly, quench with MMO, light back and forth wrenching, repeat,. Gets it apart almost every time without twisting off the brake line.

I'm 69 now and own 2 trucks and one car. As I said I love watching you. Your the best entertainment around and I'm still learning something. SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! I love it!
I think some people turn up their radio and become oblivious to noise coming from their brakes!! I am with you do not understand how people can just let things go especially brakes!! Great video as always. Hope you get over the big C quickly..
I've seen people driving at high speed directly on aluminum wheels seemingly without noticing. I hope they're just oblivious and not completely blitzed, but who can tell anymore.
I have a theory why ppl dont seem to hear when their brakes are metal on metal, and this is from my own experience. Once the pad material wears off and things go metal on metal, stuff wears down to this point so quickly that once you do hear it, the metal part of the pads is already half worn down. This is what happened to me, i started hearing a grinding sound from the rear brakes, and just a day or two later the metal part of the inner pad on the rear drivers side was already half ground down in thickness and and also severely rust damaged, like those tabs that go into the bracket were basically completely gone. Later the same day the rear passenger side brake line popped. Yes it was a Subaru. To fix it would have been close to what i bought the vehicle for, so i stuffed it in a garage until i get it sold as a parts car.
Great job as always. You have quite the cross section of vehicles and customers. It appears auto repair customers are the same everywhere and there seems to be nothing new about how they abuse their vehicles. I used to do automotive repair for a living, 50 years ago, and our customers seem to have been as bad as yours are at automotive mayhem. We had a customer's car towed in because they ignored the fact that their left front wheel bearing, rear wheel drive car, had failed. They kept driving. The only thing that kept that wheel on was the fact that the axle nut had welded itself to the spindle. The noise that had to have made, that they had to ignore, I just can't comprehend. I'm thinking some people shouldn't drive cars.
I don't use grips to seal the old hose anymore as in my experience I think it damages the internal layer of the HP hose. I have some tapered plugs ready to use as a temporary stop tap. Speedy recovery Wes I'm sure that Redeye beverage will help.
Seriously does everyone in your area that bring their torments to you just beat the living crap out their vehicles? Love the channel BTW. Great content and a great sense of humour.

Wes, I can't tell you how much I enjoy your content. I learn so much! You are humble and just get shit done!!!
Hey Wes 👋, great video on the no crank. Hope you get to feeling better soon. The brakes on that dodge were just a little rough. But it would not be at Wes shop with out making some extra fun. You and the family have a great afternoon 👋
She's a keeper! Brings you a cold beer while your working in the garage OMG!
Glad to see you’re back. The ‘vid can be crappy. I enjoy your videos a lot.
Glad you are feeling better, Wes. I am racking my brain trying to figure out how a brake hose gets blocked like that.....hummm.
It's the hold-down bracket.
But, dodge.
But it's a Jesus Christ'ler. How things are supposed to work is not in their playbook.
Chrysler engineering somehow defies the laws of hydrodynamics yet again.
It probably has something to do with the design of that truck. It naturally aims water at that wheel, causing corrosion.
Watch Wes work Bermuda Triangle of automotive repair 👨🔧 😂😂😂😂 really cracked me up… keep up the good work Wes. Get better soonest.Happy days. Cheers 🍻
I hate how much we can do at home but now need computerized stuff to complete the job. I changed the sycro motor thing that changes the vent choice on a 2013 Caravan once. You still have to take it to the dealership to synchronize it. Such bs....
If you are a strong DIY, you may want to invest in a decent bidirectional scan tool. Spend $1k on a tool you will have for 3-4 years will pay off.
@@mph5896 I need to! Ty
No spark and brakes. The Ram seal of approval 👍
I've always thought those Chrysler "keys" were so dumb either just do full keyless or a real key😂
Wes, my new love affair for rusted up brake lines and fittings is to soak with Marvel mystery oil, Map gas torch heat lightly, quench with MMO, light back and forth wrenching, repeat,. Gets it apart almost every time without twisting off the brake line.
Well, at least it wasn't a 3500... 🤷♂
I also avoided said flu by being a hermit. One trip to my parent's house and that was over. 😆The first week is the worst. Looks like you're already on the mend. 👍
The brakes just started making noise yesterday! I bet good old rust jacking under that bracket was the smoking gun. BTDT
Ahhh Wes... I had money on you never getting it!
Hope you don't get any long term effects!
Nothing any mechanic does has ever one story
I love all your content and humor Wes, I look forward to seeing the vid's from week to week. I also can't believe you don't have a million of subscribers. I have been working, or braking cars since I was 12 holding the flash light with my dad because he had to get to work the next day and we only had the one car. By the time I was 16 I had bought, fixed and sold four cars. When I was 20, I owned 9 VW's and gave most of them to friends. I got a job as a tech at 24 and retired at 68. I'm 69 now and own 2 trucks and one car. As I said I love watching you. Your the best entertainment around and I'm still learning something. SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! I love it!
old caravans were known for internally collapsed brake hoses...acted like a one way check valve.
I used to live up in the snow belt.. Grand Rapids. Fighting the rust can be a nightmare
Good fix on that brake line. I learned a new trick ... thanks
As soon as I saw that caliper the next thought I had was Rabbit hole.
Oh Wes, I know exactly how your feeling atm. When your under the weather everything takes longer 😰😖. Get well soon bud 🤗
Wes did you buy the mint unicorn? It's always there and always inside where it should be.
Or just push the brake pedal down 1/2". Closes the compensating port. No flow.
Seriously does everyone in your area that bring their torments to you just beat the living crap out their vehicles? Love the channel BTW. Great content and a great sense of humour.
You know that you have a great channel when I hit the "thumbs-up" even before the video starts 😁 Hope you get that commie plague out of your system soon.
I for one think Wes has a good reputation up there as a great technician. It blows my mind what he knows and can repair. A very like able fellow👍👍
Flu re branded, don’t worry, you’ll be well soon.
One is from the influenza family, the other from the corona family. It's not a rebrand. Also covid-19 is the #3 cause of death in the US right behind heart disease and cancer, that wasn't the case with influenza.
I agree it’s no joke. I had a 106F fever at one point.
It’s not the flu rebranded, the flu is worse.
@@WatchWesWork Hopefully you didn't lose your ability to smell gasoline and taste for watermelon like Mr. O did
Took me a couple of weeks to fully recover but much longer to get my full sense of smell back.
Glad to hear Jimminy Cricket is still alive and well!
My brother ran into a bad brake hose situation where one wheel would lock up after applying the brakes. Finally traced it down to the bad brake hose. We concluded that the inside of the hose must have broken down, come loose, or some other problem. Maybe we should have cut it open and found out? I feel like I learn a lot watching your videos. Thank you, keep it up and I'll keep watching!
Feel ya brother, school bus driver here, went thru coof round 2 a month ago. Felt like a stunned willard!
Where was the sammich assistant when I was there?!?
Banker's hours.
Oh boy, I can hear it in your voice, I hope you feel better. You have such a good wife, brings you refreshments and candy too!
Man, that was a good day. That crush washer didn't even fall off the banjo bolt into the brake fluid!
