    Years later, it's interesting to see that this was the precursor to the Influencer Era. Right at the cross of celebrity obsession and narcissism.

    • @christinajackson6309
      @christinajackson6309 Рік тому +9

      I wouldn’t call it a precursor. If you think about it, influencing was always a thing. It’s just now done through different mediums.

    I was in high school at this time and it cannot be stated enough just how much “celebrity lifestyle” was marketed directly to us. Paris was everywhere, Lindsey was everywhere, logos, luxury goods, etc. I knew people who were actively trying to live that lifestyle. It wasn’t just these kids, our whole age group was obsessed. They were just the ones that took that obsession overboard.

      the new generation is obsessed with youtubers...the very old one with singers and bands... there is no excuse for what they did and no one, but them are guilty for their behaviour.

    • @kristy5698
      @kristy5698 Рік тому +9

      Absolutely! And we don’t even realize that we’re obsessing. As a child, I felt like looking like Britney Spears and Linsey Lohan. And that that the “image” that if you didn’t have it, you were a nobody, you weren’t attractive

      I was in high school at this time. I never felt the need to be as vapid as Paris, as destructive as Lindsey. I never felt the need for designer anything. It's called strength of self.

    • @tieshafranzen6686
      @tieshafranzen6686 Рік тому +3

      Same. I'm 35 now and this celebrity lifestyle was very much marketed towards us. I felt poor since wasn't wearing designer threads, and then all of sudden my mom remarried and I had access to things I didn't before. We had money and all of a sudden I looked like it. Looking back now, I can't believe I even cared about such stupid and material things. I feel so free not caring about such things anymore. And those things are fleeting. I havnt had a designer anything in years.

    I'm so tired of people trying to justify the actions of idiots by saying that they were sad or had a tough childhood when they really didn't, and even if they did, that doesn't excuse them from being idiots and doing stupid things.
    Can we please stop normalizing using a shitty childhood as an excuse to commit crime? Because it's bullshit.

    • @warwickwas
      @warwickwas Рік тому

      Exactly. I just watched the documentary on Netflix and can't believe how stupid the whole family (and others) were. Poor little cry-baby Alexis making up poor excuses for her so-called minor involvement. And as for her totally stupid mother 'bragging' about her own drug involvement etc. This would be the real reason for her husband's infidelity. As for Nick? This idiot treats his actions as a 'fun'. That says a lot for his mentality.
