It’s almost confusing watching a good old fashioned free-for-all every-man-for-himself field sprint in the era of leadout trains and dominant teams controlling the last 5 miles of every race. Looked like the finish of a scratch race on the track. Refreshing!

A side note: Brennan was correct to go up the road with the break. You guys had plenty of riders left inside 1K. Was Cooper working for Brennan in the break? Anyway, Brennan’s been in that break and tried some stuff so he’s gassed but he’s followed a wheel for a while and so, when he looked over and saw you and Sam, he should have gunned it THEN to lead you for as long as possible, NOT for himself for 5th later. That was pure cat 6. And you should have immediately gotten on his wheel when you saw him. Hopefully you saw him. Anyway, like it or not, preferable or not, at that point you’re leadout for Sam and should not be threading needles or surging. The LUX guy is a junior, on junior gears, on the flat. Know your competition. Bike racers are SUPER sensitive. They don’t like being told they’re wrong. It’s a niche of a niche hobby and there’s a whole lot of personal bs packaged up but the best can recognize when they’ve made mistakes and can learn from them. I absolutely cannot understand having a high-level championship road race that is dead flat. All you're really measuring is who has the best leadout/sprint. It doesn't really even bring into play the bike handling skills needed in crits.
Breakaways were going all day, the last one wasn’t caught until the final few hundred meters. This race was very dynamic and not controlled by leadout teams
@@NorCalCycling I hear what you're saying, but bike racing in the USA is already so crit-dominated and weighted in favor of good sprinters for a podium finish. When I hear "road race", to me it is pretty much mandatory that at least some moderately difficult climbs are included, to offer a different challenge that favors different types of riders. Admittedly though, that would certainly preclude the event from being held in Florida.
