      Super strong race Kyle. If you had Jeff (or anyone since I didn't see you had a lead out) doing your lead out, you could have made that a photo finish.

      @@shepshape2585 thanks! Yeah it was just me, no teammates for Nationals. But Sam is a monster and gapped me when I hesitated for a second thinking maybe it was gonna be Jeff… my mistake! They are a great group of guys and I look forward to the next edition. :)

    Nice fellas and the right strategies with your man driving the race.
    Racing the Driveway spoils me in a way with its smooth flowy race car track, not that it’s easy to get results, but a different style of crit racing.
    This course has bumps, different surfaces and that stupid fence section, oh and the wooden plank man hole covers in the left had me weirded out.
    Racing Alviso looks like a better training race for this nats course.

    Awesome race + congratulations! Curious (might be stupid) question: Do most racers have their bike wheels balanced? Or is this not worth it?

    • @gerardoparedes4871
      @gerardoparedes4871 3 роки тому +1

      It's not balanced, the valve on the wheels make it imbalanced

    • @Garrick42
      @Garrick42 3 роки тому +1

      Wheel balance is not a factor, even at full-tilt field sprint speeds. I'm running way-longer-than-necessary 80 mm valve stems on the lightest carbon wheels I've ever had, and I do notice a slight vibration on descents getting close to 50 mph, but even then it's not really an issue.

    • @borisstarosta7823
      @borisstarosta7823 Рік тому

      @@gerardoparedes4871 rims are usually a little bit heavier opposite the hole for the valve - this more or less balances the wheel. Try that next time you have the bare wheel in the truing stand, without a tire on there - a good wheel will rotate so the valve hole ends up on top. Other than that... no, cyclists/bike mechanics do nothing to balance a wheel. There are no provisions for wheel balancing.

  • @borisstarosta7823
    @borisstarosta7823 Рік тому

    I don't understand the comment about how a headwind helps you in the sprint. Headwinds means drafting becomes more important, more of a factor, which is contrary to the notion that strength will matter more. When drafting is more important, the smart (but weaker) riders can hang with you, and still have a chance. Position and tactics become more important. You say (7:05): "Jeff and I have more a powerful type of sprint..." but it would seem to me that if power is your advantage over other riders, then your odds would improve with a tailwind in the sprint. Tailwinds are like sprinting on an uphill - drafting matters less, speeds/power demand will be higher, weaker (though smart) riders will be dropped, and power alone will prevail. However, all that being said, in this finish apparently nobody was drafting the winner in the last 200m, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about!

      I feel if you're racing crits, you're better off with a 1x front like I have on my TT bike (53T). I 've never seen anyone using the small ring so why drag it along?

      @Garrick42 3 роки тому

      Only criteriums are short here - American crits are a special race, very much like cyclocross on the road. Adult road races in the higher categories are usually 120-180km, just like the rest of the world.
