My sisters and I spent an entire summer watching this movie over and over and over again!! I was about 10 years old. This brings back so many great memories! Great movie!!
Brilliant! I fell in love with Annabeth Gish at 15, rang international directories and said "can you put me through to hollywood, I want to speak to Annabeth Gish" I got "Hollywood isn't a place it's an area and the actresses don't just speak to people on the phone" So I rang the studio from the little red phone box on the corner of the street...They blew me out as well :-( Learned alot about heartbreak that day haha, and geography! Great film, great memories! Keep smiling, Glenn X
That's because this movie, much like American Graffiti or The Breakfast Club, captures far more than a period in history. It captures a period in our lives, that age between childhood and adulthood, when we have to either accept the path someone else has chosen for us or find our own. Plus, as a woman I feel it also captures that moment when you realize that there is a unique set of expectations placed upon you that, if give in to them, will make you as neurotic a mess as Luanne. :)
I must've watched this movie at least a hundred times when I was a kid!! It was one of my favourites! Along with back to the beach :DDD I think This guy in this scene was my first crush!! Even at 5 years old, I couldn't resist redheaded dorks
I agree totally! My whole family's from SC and my cousins and I grew up watching this movie at the beach. My mom taught me how to in shag when I was about 9. She learned in the kitchen with a dish rag attached to the refrigerator!
This is my FAVORITE scene of the movie, because of the dance and also because of Carsons monologue directed to Luanne (it skipped that part in this vid) but yes I love it!
i saw this movie for the first time when i was maybe 7/8yo... i'm 21 now, and this movie has stood the test of time.. it's my ALL-TIME FAVORITE movie, EVER. :D
I could never understand why they called her Pudge. Sure, she wasn't as skinny as the other girls, but she was not pudgy at all. I've always thought she was absolutely beautiful. ❤️
It was her childhood nick-name. When her mother makes her take her Metrecal - that was the SlimFast of the day. I'm guessing she had been pudgier, then lost weight with the drink. I do agree with you, though - she was beautiful, and my favorite character!!
@lookonthebrightside I used to do that when I would go to Myrtle Beach on the weekends. The song is called Stagger Lee. I love this movie, a more simpler time.
On a side note, in 1988-1989 two terrific films came out, about young women finding a way to balance becoming an adult with the youthful dreams of the perfect family, career and future. And both movies featured Scott Coffey. :) Just think that needs to be said.
@LuvWinchesterMen The Copyright ran out. When they originally made the movie, they bought the rights to the songs for X number of years. When the time came to release on a new medium, the copyrights have to be negotiated again from scratch. Sometimes that's just too much money in comparison to what they expect to make on a new release, so they get cover artists. Much cheaper than original artists. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
amazon has the HBO version of the movie on VHS look for the VHS tape that has the full cast in the car on the cover, don't get the VHS or DVD with the MGM blue cover with Carson and Melaina face and Chip and Pudge dancing in the background. That is the altered version. The songs are different and it's not the same without the songs we remember when we all first watched the movie. Hope that helps.
Bridgette Fonda was excellent in this movie. She was really good in the movie "Finding Graceland." On UA-cam music there is a clip from this movie of her impersonating Marilyn Monroe and singing the song "You'd Be Surprised." It is a lot of fun to watch.
@cdasa005 The dvd that I have doesn't have anything extra on it. Just the movie. I would keep your VHS, too. A lot of the songs are different on the DVD than they were on the vhs, and it makes me sad. I miss the old songs. :(
shag and dirty dancing both portray the early 1960's styles and music. patrick swayze and baby would fit right into this shag contest. the pre beatles and hippie 1960's was cool too.
Absolutely LOVE this movie. Bought the VHS about 5 years ago at a Dollar Tree. I'm going to have to buy the DVD. Does anyone know if the DVD has commentary on it, such as interviews with the cast?
This is a good movie i have the DVD And the VHS i love it it's like a peaceful weekend with freinds and the music is great it is a shame some of the songs are changed on the DVD my grandmother used to watched this with me on VHS when came out she loved pudge she said that girl got some big legs on here but she can dance LOL LOL!! i miss my grand mother-But a good movie about times long gone-SMILE
I think the DVD version is actually the original release that was in the theaters, only a few songs are recognizable. When it was later put on VHS, I believe the studio decided, or was able to pay, to release it with a better soundtrack featuring more recognizable music of the time. So that is why its different. I replaced my worn out VHS with the DVD years ago thinking it was the same, sadly it wasn't. They need to rerelease the VHS version on DVD!!
@HELLbillytrucker Lloyd Price did two versions of this song, the one you're thinking of, and this "cleaned up" version they could play on American Bandstand without complaints about the drinking, gambling, womanizing and killing. I think the Bandstand version is a little faster, too. You can find both versions on several of Lloyd's Greatest Hits CDs.
Its interesting some of you say the songs are different in certain versions of the film. I never felt this dance matched the song. Love the dance, love the song, never felt they went together.
The way Carson says "Hey everybody look at pudge"! .. Such a great friend the way she said that. I absolutely LOVE this film! 💃🕺
Her name Is Caroline Carpenter. And she dances well,
When she saw Pudge in her moment that’s all she cared about! Now that’s a friend!
I do too!
This is one of the best scenes in the movie. I love Anabeth Gish as "Pudge" Great dancing and they are having fun.
Yeah.
I wanted her dress and shoes so bad. I love this movie. ❤
This movie is 'the most fun'. It's one of my all time favorites.
My sisters and I spent an entire summer watching this movie over and over and over again!! I was about 10 years old. This brings back so many great memories! Great movie!!
Loved it
"Stagger Lee" by Lloyd Price - Great song!
My favorite movie. All the girls liked Buzz but I always had a thing for Chip.
I totally had a thing for Chip, cutie!!!
Same!!
I was an extra in this movie, it's too blurry here to show you where I am, was a fun cast
And so patient. He was a good guy
He was so sweet
Pudge was my fav. She’s adorable!! 🥰 Such a special movie. I wish I lived in that movie. 🥰🥰🥰
Ever since watching this movie, ive always wanted to learn to SHAG. thanks for the clip.
One of my favorite movies from the 80’s . Even more than Dirty Dancing.
I want Pudge's blue dress. Super cute! I love you, Scott Coffey!
Totally one of my favorite movies. It just brings out a feeling I can't describe, and I'm not exactly from that time or location, but I just get it.
What is the name of the movie?
@@janetspell1396
"Shag: The Movie"
"A 'TEN,' excuse me, 'A TEN??'" Love this picture-show!
Brilliant! Glenn Hayes That is very sweet. You, I mean, not the Hollywood phone answering people 😊
I love Shag! I just saw the movie yesterday on TCM and it had been probably 30 yrs since i saw it. I watched the movie when i was 15 in 1991.
It's been ages since I watched it myself, but it's such a great movie! I love it!
i Love this part in Shag! Pudge & Chip are so cute!!
"This is the most fun"

My favorite movie ever!
thank you for posting this!....it's the high point moment of one of the best early-sixties-theme movies.
I must've watched this movie at least a hundred times when I was a kid!! It was one of my favourites! Along with back to the beach :DDD I think This guy in this scene was my first crush!! Even at 5 years old, I couldn't resist redheaded dorks

Came out the same year as Dirty Dancing, but the authentic music and dance styles always made it my favourite!
It did? I thought Dirty Dancing was 87
This is my FAVORITE scene of the movie, because of the dance and also because of Carsons monologue directed to Luanne (it skipped that part in this vid) but yes I love it!
This was one of the best summer movies...I think I'll watch it again this summer
an iconic movie moment from my youth!!!
Pudge reminds me of the gals I danced with at The Pad & the Magic Atic in the
60's. Still shaggin'. Long live Beach Music!!!
;) Love this movie, great characters. Buzz Ravenel forever changed my youth haha.
BUZZ WAS FINE
I married to Pudge... I mean Caroline! Well not the real one, but she reminds me of the movie character. God, I love her!
This video makes me feel so good. So many memories.

i saw this movie for the first time when i was maybe 7/8yo... i'm 21 now, and this movie has stood the test of time.. it's my ALL-TIME FAVORITE movie, EVER. :D

Pudge and Chip forever!
GREAT SONG, AND MOVIE MASTERPIECE WORK OF ART
AND WONDERFUL MEMORIES
Reminds me of my four years in Raleigh, NC for some reason.
On a side note, in 1988-1989 two terrific films came out, about young women finding a way to balance becoming an adult with the youthful dreams of the perfect family, career and future. And both movies featured Scott Coffey. :) Just think that needs to be said.

i wish i could dance like that! anyway, love the movie (:
Best movie EVER 😉😇😇💕💖💖🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽🗽🗽🎵🎶🎶🎶
I found the DVD has the original songs on it. The VHS for some odd reason has the "newer" songs. Little weird right? But still a great movie :D
Where can u buy the CD w the original songs
Go get em Pudge!
i love this movie
this is my all time favorite movie
I am so out of control… lol this movie I ❤❤

I watch this movie repeatedly!!!!
"I'm going to tell them Pudge went Crazy!"
All the beach clubs were COMPLETELY swept away in Hurricane Hazel, 1954 and The Shag was never the same.
Everytime i see this scene or hear this song, it make me think of my wife. She is so much like "pudge" from this movie. God i love her.
CAN YOU PUT UP THE WHOLE MOVIE PLEASE? I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!
Bridgette Fonda was excellent in this movie.

@mherrera1983 They didn't play all the verses of the song, but it's mostly the same. It's the beginning and the first 3 verses.
“That Jimmy Valentine’s a Sweet Potato” ♥️
