Guppusmaximus Yep, Malmsteen plays it clean, smooth, and awesome, but isn't all about how you play, is about WHAT you're playing, and WHO you have by your side.
***** So, you're saying that The Japanese Philharmonic w/ Yngwie playing a concerto he wrote himself (all parts) is inferior? Sorry to disagree, but, you don't get any better than Yngwie playing the soloist electrically in Modern Classical especially with The Japanese Philharmonic.
Guppusmaximus Well, it's really fine that you're actually telling me your points without saying I'm stupid, I don't know about music or something. (Thing that actually the people commenting here do all the time) In my opinion, is pretty bad what malmsteen wrote for the philharmonic, because was only I shredd and you play as backing track to show us how awesome I am. You can listen to it, and appreciate it, but in my opinion, when you play with a orchestra, you need to do something where you are another instrument, but the orchestra is the priority. If you want to know what I mean, you can check something like for the love of god, of Steve Vai, with the orchestra he played. I usually don't like Steve, but his arrangnament was just epic.
I love the clash of culture here. Dave is not even trying to tone down the metal guitar player persona. And as a musician, very interesting playing electric guitar in a setting like that where time keeping isn't from a drummer. Harder than one might imagine. This might be the most impressive thing I've seen him do.
Ozzfest 98 in Kansas City, a little bit if mud made it onto the stage while megadeath was into about their 3rd song. Dave stopped the show to give us a talk about concert etiquette which got them booed off the stage. Great day in music history my friends.
It's been overdone. Malmsteen did it, Metallica, the scorpions. Enough already. And the amp sounded like the treble was on 10 and the bass on 0. Icepick to the ears.
So far only Yngwie nailed it with the Japanese philharmonics. He was so much in sync and had a good tone unlike any other bands and guitarist who sounded like shitting with their amps. You can feel the emotions in Yngwie's playing when he performed it with the Japanese. That's Yngwie for u, pure class act!!
Ash Gaur Malmsteem's tempo was too off for me to enjoy his performance. The tone was there, but in some key parts, he rushed. Orchestral musicians and non orchestral musicans feel time differently. Depending on the conductor, the conductor will probably have the players watch him/her, they will keep an eye on the conductor for timing, cues, etc. Malmsteem didn't watch the conductor. Non orchestral musicians generally lean (or should lean) on their practice with their metronomes..or a lot of non orchestral musicians lean on the rhythm section for time keeping. A good video on how the two feel time differently is on Adam Neeley's channel.
I had front row for this one-time event, and although it didn't turn out the way I had hoped in sound, I can at the least forever say I watched Dave play with an orchestra. It sounded better when there, and although it wasn't great, it was still fun, and the mix of Megadeth fans and classical symphony fans in the audience was priceless. Plus, he went down the front row at the end shaking hands and saying thank you to everyone, and after seeing Megadeth live 4 times (LOVE them), this was a dream come true. Good time, sound could've been better, but to see such an iconic metal guitarist play some Vivaldi, etc... I'd do it again.
I always found a great irony with heavy metal. For a long time it was considered "devil worshiper music". Do you guys remember that? The hysteria about it in the 1980s. Why? Because people said it sounded evil. Of course bands played to this hype with pentagrams and skulls. Anyway... The melodic construction was not that dissimilar from classical or baroque. Metal has more in common with classical music than it does with other genres of Rock N Roll. In fact, while many symphonic pieces were literally written with the ideas of demonic possession or the eternal battle between good and evil in mind, it was deemed wholesome and "good". Dark diminished 5ths countered with minor melodies offering both despair and hope were common themes in baroque and classical. Take a classical symphonic piece, throw in some lyrics and a bit of distortion and you have....HEAVY METAL.
Rubbish. Heavy metal has almost no counterpoint, it's all about the riff. Classical music is all counterpoint. Jazz, post-punk, Krautrock, psychedelic rock and other forms have much more in common with classical than metal.
El violinista quedo deslumbrado. Se ve como lo escucha tocar. Me sucede casi igual. Escuchar un tema de megadeth y siempre algo nuevo descubris. Me pasa hace mas de 20 years con Rip Polaris. Es excelente. Grande Dave. Vuelve a la sinfonia. 🤘❤
Hilarious! I've never seen anyone play so bad with an orchestra. Usually metal guitarist or bands who tries this does a very good job. This was shit! And I love Megadeth.
Too bad Dave's tone sucks here. Too much distortion. Should have dialed down the distortion and used a mild comp with a little more volume to get that almost feedback tone. Too much distortion always sounds like a hoard of bees.
No, it's not. Any guitar player worth his salt (and Mustaine certainly is) should be able to dial in a suitable tone, especially when he makes a point of emphasizing how important his tone was in this collaboration.
"It's not about volume, it's about tone" Are you seriously saying that after that screaming in pain, dying from 10000 needles to the eye cat you were playing? What?!?!!?
These are tough times financially for orchestras all across the country. Here we see an example of how one of those orchestras is attempting to make ends meet. No doubt these musicians were holding their noses throughout this entire debacle. Good grief.
@@d3athperception828 7 years later LMAO! I have no memory of posting this but just gave it a listen and Dave did a pretty good job. I must've been having a shitty day.
Exactly; he usually creates his own stuff, which is awesome. But playing classical pieces well, with professionals, requires disciplined practice, and lots of it.
Yes but he has been playing long enough to sound much cleaner. We know Mustane can sound clean if he wants to, and sound like crap when he wants too. Kick the Chair solo is an example of clean playing that would make Vivaldi sit up, I don't even think that is Mustane it is so clean, then Mustane shit all over that Dimebag solo with Dream Theater when they covered Cemetary Gates. Guppusmaximus Well, it's really fine that you're actually telling me your points without saying I'm stupid, I don't know about music or something. (Thing that actually the people commenting here do all the time)
In my opinion, is pretty bad what malmsteen wrote for the philharmonic, because was only I shredd and you play as backing track to show us how awesome I am.
Symphony of melodyyyyy
SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION
2:10 when we can finally hear the guitar... =(
Dave is who he is. Live long and prosper MEGADETH
got to give him some credit for trying something new, sounded fine to me, i would imagine it sounding alot better if you were actually there
I love the clash of culture here. Dave is not even trying to tone down the metal guitar player persona. And as a musician, very interesting playing electric guitar in a setting like that where time keeping isn't from a drummer. Harder than one might imagine. This might be the most impressive thing I've seen him do.
the way he just stands there raising his arm at the end lmao dave is a legend
nobody:
all musiciants, when dave playing in their orchestra:
crewmate
1 impostor among us
Ozzfest 98 in Kansas City, a little bit if mud made it onto the stage while megadeath was into about their 3rd song. Dave stopped the show to give us a talk about concert etiquette which got them booed off the stage. Great day in music history my friends.
Dave Mustaine w the San Diego is a weapon of Bass Destruction. This man chose Vivaldi. Wagner...and he didn't choose me. A total LEGEND.
It's been overdone. Malmsteen did it, Metallica, the scorpions. Enough already. And the amp sounded like the treble was on 10 and the bass on 0. Icepick to the ears.
In my opinion, only Malmsteen and Deep Purple did it well.
Mark Chang now you realize how weak the guitar sounds by itself?
Metalica did Dave’s Music .... Dave does Vivaldi ...
Metal and classical music are very connected..
Headanging to symphonic orchestra. My Hero!!!
How to write metal song:
Step 1:
take what u learned about symphonies at school and change instruments
Step 2: ?
Step 3: profit
Rubbish. Heavy metal has almost no counterpoint, it's all about the riff. Classical music is all counterpoint. Jazz, post-punk, Krautrock, psychedelic rock and other forms have much more in common with classical than metal.
@@niallbyrne2680 Jazz and classical crowds certainly have elitism in common
❤Happy Birthday Dave MUSTAINE ❤
El violinista quedo deslumbrado. Se ve como lo escucha tocar. Me sucede casi igual. Escuchar un tema de megadeth y siempre algo nuevo descubris. Me pasa hace mas de 20 years con Rip Polaris. Es excelente. Grande Dave. Vuelve a la sinfonia. 🤘❤
Had to watch this again it was so bad.
Have you ever even touched a guitar? Shut the fuck up.
Yeah I play a little bit. Nowhere near as good as Dave though....but this just didn't work out for him, and it is funny no?
Hilarious! I've never seen anyone play so bad with an orchestra. Usually metal guitarist or bands who tries this does a very good job. This was shit! And I love Megadeth.
It's a video. Theare best seats in the house, wish you all coulda been there.
Oh, How Beautiful.
Too bad Dave's tone sucks here. Too much distortion. Should have dialed down the distortion and used a mild comp with a little more volume to get that almost feedback tone. Too much distortion always sounds like a hoard of bees.
That is more of a guitar tech issue.....
No, it's not. Any guitar player worth his salt (and Mustaine certainly is) should be able to dial in a suitable tone, especially when he makes a point of emphasizing how important his tone was in this collaboration.
I think tone wouldn't help when playing 50% random notes (as done here)...
David Kohout He got invited by them. Why would he decline? Just because you don't like it? Fuck off.
Jason Mcclaren The biggest thing is I'm pretty sure he made the guitar himself... which it shows.
"It's not about volume, it's about tone" Are you seriously saying that after that screaming in pain, dying from 10000 needles to the eye cat you were playing? What?!?!!?
That is awesome!
These are tough times financially for orchestras all across the country. Here we see an example of how one of those orchestras is attempting to make ends meet. No doubt these musicians were holding their noses throughout this entire debacle. Good grief.
It was good though. Check your ears you fucking snob.
@@d3athperception828 7 years later LMAO! I have no memory of posting this but just gave it a listen and Dave did a pretty good job. I must've been having a shitty day.
Well done Dave, bravo 👏👏
Awesome
dave said in some interview that he never practice, its just too boring for him. He is a talented guy but bro, practice is the key for everything...
guitarist without guitar I think he’s mastered guitar by now
Exactly; he usually creates his own stuff, which is awesome. But playing classical pieces well, with professionals, requires disciplined practice, and lots of it.
@@blakedavis2447 a true master of guitar practices as much as possible. Thatd what makes them masters.
@@bt3743 refer back to my second comment
His practice is when he plays shows. Lots of players are like that.
If only Dave had a clean tone...
Exactly.
For not being classically trained he's freaking AMAZING!
I don't get it...
if only dave could really play..
Yeah anthonia stop having your own point of view!
I lived enough to see this. I'm happy.
How can you not love Dave? Such a nice guy.
