- It might not have been the first one, but the Mark VI is the helmet we all think of when we think of Halo.
In this video I'll go over every Mark VI helmet we've seen in the games, not only the ones worn by the Master Chief, but the multiplayer variants as well.

I actually like it more without the lines. It looks more like Mk V.
Talking about "Chief's eyes" really started the mood for the video. It really got into the emotional feel of the armor that I don't think anyone has really reflected on.

A lot of reach helmets have a face emulating the features. JFO especially.
I saw early reach art where Jorge had the CQC helmet and looking at the chest armor it looks like a match but looks somewhat aggressive. Not really fitting Jorge. Grenadier helmet matches his personality.

Its not that 343s designs were bad, I did like them a bit, but it just felt too changed from its origins.

@@johnnyfroggo7361 no it's been confirmed i believe that master cheifs new armor is the mark VII, I think it also shows it when the armor is booting up in the discover hope trailer

I never noticed until this video that there are differences between the Halo 2 and 3 Helmets.

Rewatching these after about a year, and something just hit me about the Halo 4 and 5 designs for Master Chief: His armor is designed to "not look right" if he has his arms down.
It's such a poignant statement about the nature of his character. He only looks "right" and "good" when his arms are up, holding a weapon or in a fighting stance, so he's supposed to always have his guard up, and conversely, how vulnerable he is with his guard down. I think it really shows how much thought 343 put into his character for Halo 4, and I was always disappointed at the fan reaction to the design, even if the critique for the MP armors was still pretty valid.
Personally I like the halo 4-5 design of the helmet however halo 2’s - reach was my favorite design I hope infinite brings both designs into the game in multiplayer player

4:50 Seeing the blacked lower middle part of the visor for H3's helmet (the "nose" cut-out) made me focus on the visor shape and realize how it looks more like a soldier's protected face. It looks significantly more human than H2's, if you squint you can see more of military protecting glasses (styled like HWDE/2), which is very fitting. With the music it gave me vibes of the _Remember Reach_ commercial, I remembered that there is an actual human underneath the armor.
Strong stuff.

The Mark VI is the reason I played Halo. When i was young, I was bad at giving game descriptions, so when I asked for the game where everyone looked the same and shot eachother.
Very well done, considering this is your first video! Well edited, good commentary and just enough analysis to keep it interesting without being too long-winded. I'd love to see more videos.

Also, your art was very helpful and it helped to illustrate the points you were making. I'd love to see more of these kinds of comparison videos between the art styles of the different Halo games. Maybe do one video all about vehicles, another all about weapons, etc? Just throwing out ideas. Either way, keep it up!
Louis Clark these are some great ideas! I’m not entirely sure about weapons however, I just don’t wanna rip off the series LateNightGaming has going at the moment. But vehicles and stuff would be great!

Your channel is something I've wanted to see for a long time, I make halo models myself and it's nice to see other artists talking about the art of halo
I always loved the detailed design in halo 4 and 5. It felt like an evolution for everything, I think the problem was that 343 didn't give an explanation for the armor change, like in halo 2, after that I will miss this design

I love the video, and the music you used was perfect. When you played Never Forget at the end, the feelings of the Halo series hit me full force.
Honestly, my favorites are 4, 5, and Infinite.
My theory is that the lines on the Mjolnir helmets acts as an indication of where the HUD (Heads Up Display) would be. Also, I’m hoping that the Mark VI Mod/Gen. 2 armor that the Chief previously wore makes a reappearance as a Gen. 3 port in Infinite. I loved that suit because it made the Chief look far more bulkier and stronger, a perfect appearance for a SPARTAN-II imo.
Mark V is my favorite, cant wait for SPV3.3 that will sport a remastered MkV. Unlike the ungoddlyness that is Anniversary.
I just really love the Halo 4 helmet, and will miss it and his armor when it goes away in Halo Infinite

Awesome video! I love the Mark VI to death, but I’ve always been a sucker for classics, so I would absolutely LOVE to see an evolution of the Mark V helmet as well with this exact amount of detail and editing. Amazing work!

I'm glad I'm not the only person out there who likes it because it just felt so off as a halo fan
I like the multiplayer versions of h2a, halo 4 and halo 5. Mainly because of proportions but also because of the helmet, sometimes it looks a bit smooshed horizontally but I like the vibe and individual plates and stuff
For me, halo 2 and 3 was too rounded, the face just felt too wide and round, not blocky enough
The editing on your vids is top notch the musical transitions are seamless too. That *Hope* moment when Chief's first infinite look swelled in like we were in the dark times for Halo to have this breath of light and fresh air.
I do like the way the '18 helmet looked but wouldn't have it any other way than it is right now as far as chief's look.

It was particularly rough for me, Halo lost me so xbox lost me when I played 4.
Reach was my last favoured game so seeing how 5 was I was all but convinced halo would never be for me again.
but Halo Wars 2 was the first time I ever considered picking up the series again, seeing the Mjolnir MK IV in all it's beauty make a return and seeing how well the Classic halo artstyle in the modern era, but updated brought hope to me.
I still wouldn't get the X1 for it but seeing the Blur Cutscenes for HW2,
And the 'Know your Enemy' ad is Beautiful and one of my most favourite pieces of Halo media ever made.

The Infinite reveal for 2018 and the current look for chief has restored my faith in the series, HW2 was enough to see there's still a chance but the form reinvention for Infinite and 343 is enough to bring me back.
I hope for Multiplayer there will be a Mjolnir MK IV option that would make it 10/10 for me as long as it's as beautiful as the HW2.
Infinite's helmet is THE BEST design of the Mk VI helmet EVER. You can't change my mind.

The Halo Infinte design greatly resembles the Halo: Legends armor, I always loved that design.
That motion effect with the text and the helmets gives that Classic Bungie UI feel from Halo 2 or 3. I don't know why. lol
we met the flood, stopped the halo ring in mark T.
We stopped the covenant and the didact wearing the legendary mark 6.
Now we face the banished, in the revolutionary Mark 7.
I was genuinely surprised when you said this was your first video.

am i the only one who though the mark vi with no visor lines (1:48) actually looked pretty sick? honestly would be cool if 343 made that as a variant for infinite.
For chief I generally prefer h2 anniversarys design for the mk 6. But there are some h4 aspects I prefer. like the lack of a diaper, I really am glad it was omitted. I Also prefer the h4 gloves and under suit. I'm not sure if I prefer the halo 2 anniversary or halo 4 helmet but both are fantastic imho. Great vid!
Actually like the infinites armor the best aswell, I remember thinking how cool the chief was on the halo legends art cover, so seeing them take inspiration from it made me happy
tbh, i don’t feel the h2/3 chief was better than the 4/5 chief, but the infinite chief feels like it’s own thing, just give it the 2018 trailer mouthpiece to infinite chief and boom, perfect

I've always been a Mk V guy over the VI, but always have loved the VI as well, escpetially Reaches prototype variant with the extra armor attachment!
I actually think Chief’s helmet without lines look cooler tbh. I wish they had a variation for chief helmets in multiplayer lol
I actually like halo reachs Mk VI the most, but I've always loved the black brimmed visor of the Mk V, and not to mention reach has my favourite artsyle of any halo title.
The MK. VI in Halo 4 is actually more than just an artstyle change. It was actually upgraded by cortana during cryo. And before you write this off as another unexplained change Cortana actually said that she upgraded Chief's armor during his awakening (Chief even looks at armor and reacts a bit with "You've been busy). It wasn't focused on but it was definitely implied.
I was given the idea that it was unexplained, and that 343 only brought in that explanation as a way to save their stupid design that lacked an in universe explanation until then
You should do a version of the mark V, if memory serves it was also in every main halo game besides 2

Edit: In response to the question at the end, my fav mk-6 is also the newest iteration from infinite.
I believe the lines on the visors allow for better HUD clarity and display inside the helmet.

I feel like you could explain a bit more into the helmet. You did explain a lot for the halo 1 to reach especially the one with the tears, did not know that, so, that was cool, but it did feel like you stopped with the halo 4 to 5 designs, so, I hope you can discuss the thing people like and dislike about them because it did come off like you did not care to explain.

@@Wernissage no offense intended as I said before you really did give good insight in the desgin and how it was used but i did not think you gave that same level to halo 4-5 like one thing I saw was that you pointed out is those lights where on then off. That could be a subtle way on how the Chief feels.

My personal favorite armor was the mark 4 from Halo Wars 2. It’s in my opinion the best combo of old and new and looks hella cool.

In terms of the more final Infinite helmet, the actual bottom curve of the visor matches Halo 2 more than 3, which had a flatter curve.

I love Halo and his videos are definitely not that, he’s more about spirituality which is also great but I just thought I’d mention how similar you guys sound and again awesome video! That's what is missing in the halo's documentary the eyes part blew me away i wish they talked more about those little details
Mark VI I think got the better end of the deal over Mark V, with a somewhat faithful version appearing in some form. One thing I think worth noting about 4's reception is that unlike Halo 2, there's no explanation as to how Chief obtained a new set of armor aside from one throw away line from Franky which boil down to "nano machines, son!" I think if they had a scene where Chief suits up in the new armor, the overall reception would've been better. That said I'm glad we more or less got the classic design back!

I genuinely liked the changes to his armor throughout the showing that with humanity getting better with technology so did the armor of the Spartans. Like material in between the armor pieces vs the just basic armor and that generic black in between. Loved it but like the progression more. Hurt a bit to see it take a step backwards but after watching the campaign for infinite and seeing what happened between 5 and now its a bit easier to justify story wise rather than just a design change back to the original. As for in multiplayer it’s a lil harder to explain. Should keep the gen 2 styling but bring back reach’s ability to style your spartan as either built like a tank and meant to stand on the frontlines or like a sport bike meant for agility and quickness to drop in and out of areas or targets quickly. I get chief usually opts for the basic armor but he’s also been that no frills kinda spartan

The Mark VI (HALO 3 version) has always been my favorite of Master Chief's armor. Its why when HALO Infinite came out, my first objective was..how close can I recreate the Master Chief Mark VI armor from HALO 3. If you look at my recent community post on my channel, I posted a screenshot of my amor currently. Its about 90% accurate for it being a replica. Thank you for making this video. 😁🎮
