Wow Maybe Sinner is the one that forces all the other to raise their game. Tsispas really played at a new level here. I hope he can show it more often.
Tsitsipas has always been great on Clay.
This level is still lower than his 2021 peak.
I think there is clear jump in quality from Tsitsipas in Monaco
Yes. Clay isn't Sinner's best surface but he is still able to play to a high level, and the pressure and intensity really raised Tsitsipas' game (Even though Stef is the undisputed GOAT on clay).
Citypass is just one of those guys who wants to take out the hot players. He prides himself in being able to beat the top players when they're at their best. I don't know if he wants to BE the best... too much work.
@@OmegaMouse lol. I was joking about the goat thing. He is far from the greatest, but hey, this match was pretty entertaining, still an achievement. I'm not a hater, I got no bias, just making a joke.
I love them both ! No grunt (what a pleasure). Fair play ! Superb tennis ! And a backhand game we don't see much today ! Thanks to both of them. Sinner so much impoving on clay. Love the man !
Yeah, is a true pleasure to see a match without players grunting on every shot.
sigh ... the "we don't like noisy players" snobs strike again ....
I hope the next generation of players grunt as loud as they can .. scream here and there, death stares etc etc
Two months after the top 10 had no one-handers left, both Tsitsipas and Dimitrov are set to be back in it next week!
I add to your comment the fact that Tsitsipas's backhand looks more consistent. He can change direction way more comfortable than before. specially going DTL. 1Hb takes longer to grasp and to develop but it isn't inferior to 2HB. With pros and cons like any other things in life.
have you noticed the stubbier follow through?

How much of it was affected by the Sinner injury
Tsitsi's targeting Sinner's backhand with a high loopy ball gave fruits in the end: notice how many times Jannik had to do one-legged jump on his right leg when hitting a backhand. In the end, his right leg caved in to the pressure.
Yeah his backhand was really really good, really effective at pulling sinner of the court then was crushing it down the line. Incredible difference in level this week from tsitsipas
Very interesting point you pose here. A lot of those one-legged backhands with that high backhand of Tsitsipas. I'm not sure if the physical aspect made the difference in Sinner's last few games as his level has been incredible, but also Tsitsipas showed a very intelligent game today.
I think a Sinner vs Djoker final would be more fun, though. 😂
@@aiturran well we will have to wait for that Sinner vs Djoker final at RG or Winbledon or both :)
question is, why all these one legged jumps? haven't seen him do so many in one match. that cost him this match. that injury.
@@francis87589 Sinner doesn't stand a chance against Novak on clay! Difference between a HC player and an exceptional legendary all rounder. Surprised Ruud won today tbh.
Tsitsipas really improved his backhand game
I am glad for his overall form but disagree on the improvement. It is the court that does that. But it shows how good he can be when heavy spins to his backhand are slower, because finishing points gets harder too then and he is great here.
It's mainly the slow Monte Carlo clay that gives him more time to prepare his BH or run around it

Not really improved, clay court allows for more backhand preparation. Hard courts are difficult for one backhand rallies

Tsitsipas played like he did back in 2021 and 2022 when he won the tournament. It was like a resurrection! As an eternal fan it brought back joy and belief that Tsitsipas still has it- the magic. Great win for Tsitsipas and great win for all his supporting fans. Onto the final now and routing for him on to get a third Monte Carlo title! That would be extraordinary! Rudd will be tough though! Absolutely a top-notch appearance between Sinner and Tsitsipas. I would like to congratulate Stefanos Tsitsipas with his perseverance, effort and desire. He has made more proper options and shot selections at the pivotal points. As to my favorite tennis competitor Sinner, he is supposed to take the rest in order to get ready to the upcoming tournaments and events which will take place till Roland Garros.
Glad to see Stef playing good tennis again.

Terrific battle. Tsitsipas loves playing in Monte Carlo.
It's a shame about Sinner's knee injury. He had pretty much broken down Stef's backhand in that third set when it happened. Stef got a surge when he saw that Sinner couldn't really move well after that.
Not really about the knee. Also the hamstring on his other leg. Really, it was lower body cramping which has been standard with him for years. He even joked about the same ol' injuries with the physio.
Yes, Sinner was actually ahead of the third set, Tsitsipas probably thinking the final was slipping away when Sinner called a medical time out.
Injuries dont happen by chance they happen by overeaching many times.
I think so. I can't say that Stef won on the expense of Sinner's injury but I can say that Sinner lost the match because of it. If Sinner hadn't got injured, the third set would have gone to tie-break.
High level match with Tsitsipas. 2nd set Jannik much more aggresive shots, 3rd set Stefanos seemed to light fire. Great Tennis!!
In all honesty, the judge misses the call on a ball and helps Tsitsipas not take the double break in the third set.
That said, when Sinner came out with that little muscle problem I thought: Hmm let's hope this doesn't help Tsitsipas fight back and that it doesn't hurt Sinner. I was hoping to make a mistake but in the end it was just like that.
Nice game from both players.
Tsitsipas’s post-match interview was typically self-congratulatory. He actually thought he won the match by his own ability. He didn’t win it: Sinner’s injury let him in.

They both had to deal with bad umpire calls on decisive moments. The match was very close for both of them and Sinner had also some leg pain issues. The result is totally fair because Stefanos also showed strong character and had a good tournament so far. But wish him to win the trophy tomorrow.
Lol only one was decisive
Not at all, in the case of Stefanos the call out was made after he hit the ball: he was also in an extremely defensive position and his ball actually ended up in the net, there was no mistake at that point, the ball was clearly on the line (as shown) and Stefanos saw it too!!

For all those wondering, Hawk-Eye technology has limitations on clay court surfaces. Hence, it is not used.
But that aside, it is absolutely ridiculous that the chair umpire is not held accountable for firstly blatantly bad calls and secondly bad judgment. So the poor player has to suffer.
Okay, some umpires like this lady is quite incompetent, so why can't they have a challenge based replay system (they might not have Hawk-Eye, but they have slow-mo replays) for bad calls and bad judgements. And, the tournament refree invariably always sides with the chair umpire, so that serves no purpose.

*Loses.
This was an incredible match, and to everyone crying about how Tsitsipas hit something out that an umpire should have called and that Sinner would have won had he not called a trainer for a slight injury well, guess what, that’s what we humans call a tennis match where many things happen that are out of our control. Should there be Hawkeye? Of course, but that’s a story for another day. I hate seeing people say “he should have won” or “she should have won”. No, the person who won should have won because a combination of fate and skill made them win. I mean, maybe my eyes were deceiving me, but Stefanos wasn’t exactly a slouch out there. He deserved it!!! And I wanted Sinner to win😂
Child, please. That HORRIFIC call occurred at BREAK POINT missing a ball that was out by a whopping 7CM. Sinner would've rightfully earned the double break up 5-1 and would've been off court before the cramping issues got him.
Tennis has insanely thin margins and corrupt calls like that absolutely matter to the outcome of a match... which is precisely why they (line judges & umpires) pull that mess. Sinner's weak finger-tipped handshake with Aurally Retort said it ALL.
After the Serena-Capriati QF debacle at USO '04, Hawk-Eye was implemented to remove human bias in matches. We've since evolved to the upgraded electronic line calling system for a reason: greater accuracy & even less bias. Enough already with people trying to play god by inserting themselves into matches instead of letting the players decide on court through match play.
@@got2bjosh I agree, that umpire was foolish and also has a history of making really bad decisions. I saw the call, that was insane, and that’s why we need Hawkeye which, let’s face it, works fine on clay, we all know it. But that’s fate, I’ve played through that myself in tournaments, it’s not Stef’s fault and that call does not make it so that he does not deserve to win as people here are saying. He did deserve to win as he played very well and it just wasn’t in the cards for Sinner. Understand me now…child?

Also meddy got robbed a point this tournament, and people started whistling at him for it...
Why is there no highlights of the 3-1 deuce game 3rd set?? Literally the most pivotal point of the match
Tsitsipas has been consistently the best player on the tour for the last 6 years and especially on clay.
The poor pale opponent gets destroyed every confrontation
😂😂😂 GS prove that, you incompetent troll. Shitsipas is the most consistent loser of the lot.
You could see what is possible with a one-handed backhand. Hopefully this will find many imitators.
Tsitsipas in monte carlo remembers me Nadal on Roland Garros
No Nadal -》Tsitsipas is the same Ferrari- Fiat , no sense
@@paolocantoni7065 yes sure, Nadal is 1 Million times better, but tsitsipas plays 30% better in monte carlo
it should have been 1-5 in 3rd set, in favour of Jannik, the second serve of Tsitsipas was 10 cm out, and called in, then the injury of Jannik....IT WAS A ROBBERY !
Fool people start comparing tsitsipas with Nadal.. so stupid.. he won 14 GS on clay.. and tsitsipas will never ever one a single Slam on any court for sure...
@@Truthneverhides--00 I think tsitsipas will win a grand slam, but I don't compare tsitsipas with Nadal, I Just say that he plays better in monte carlo
Onestly I think that the most important thing is the fact that sinner it’s ready to play on red courts also 💪🏼🔥🎾
Tsitsipas when he is interested is an excellent player. No huge surprise
He's one of the most talented players ever
Reminds me of Federer vs Djokovic
What a gentleman jannik is...Shook the refs hand even though he made him lose.
It's normal, bro. Cuz everyone makes mistakes.
Cause Jannik knows he got the better end of bad line call against Rune yesterday.
@@orchidpanda2253 Rune won that set..what are you talking about...it was the 4-1 point of the third set...you dumb af
@@orchidpanda2253 what are you talking about..rune ended winning that set..and was not on the 4-1 point of the third set

Wonderful to see Tsitsipas strong enough on his backhand to win points on it.
