In this video Eric debunks the common misconception that all Mosin Nagant rifles are "garbage rods" and actually do have collectible value and plenty of historical significance. This video covers several very obscure and rare Mosin variants that are commonly overlooked as well as many Finnish examples that are exceedingly rare.

First rifle I ever bought myself was a mosin from the used rack at gander mtn for $150. Once I got into collecting more I looked up the markings. It's a Finnish 91/30 B barrel

Very nice. I have a Russian 1943. It's got everything I wanted. It has the rough machining on the exterior, it has the "walking stick crack" and some character in the stock. It was arsenal refinished but has, according to my Russian friend, someone's initials hand carved into the stock. Unfortunately, they tried to sand it out during the refinishing but it's still visible. Mine isn't a rare example but it's enough to get me more interested in Mosins & I love the initials. Some young Russian man carried that gun in WWII. He used it as a walking stick, he carved, I presume, his girlfriend's initials into it and worried about coming home alive. That makes it a little personal & I like that.

My father and I use the Mosin Nagant M44 for deer hunting. Finding the shells for them isn’t as easy as it was 20+ years ago, but it’s our weapon of choice. We bought the original sling, scope, takedown tools, ammo pouch, and oil can for ‘em. Dad has the 200 meter sniper rifle. He refinished his an it’s absolutely gorgeous.
    Great hunting rifle.

Just picked up a 91/59 from and older collector who bought it 35-40 years ago when they started importing them into the country. He bought a few crates of them and hand picked a few for himself. Never even been shot still packed with cosmo in the action but metal is like brand new and wood is clean. Paid 300 for it but whatever he had a ton of cool war stories from Vietnam to talk about.

loved this vid, you taught me about the Finn mosins a couple years ago with your M39 vid and now I've got two Finn's; an M91 VKT and an M39 Sako. The M91 is really cool because aside from Chatellerault, some piece is made by every Mosin manufacturer. Most is Westinghouse and Remington, but just a cool microcosm of the Mosin world and crazy to think of all of those pivitol moments in several country histories that it was a part of. Great informational video. My regular shooter mosin is a 1927 ex draggon 91/30. Somewhat rare but not extremely. My other mosin is among the rarest: a Finnish m91. My m91 has a 1918 Tula mark on the tang. It has a 1942 marked barrel with the VKT and SA stamps. BUT, it also has the B marked Belgian barrel, AND the Belgian liege proof marks. One of less than 1,200 made. I've only sent 5 rounds down that to test it. Whole thing is like brand new.

There's another carbine you didn't mention. In 1907, the Russian army made a carbine for cavalry and artillery troops, designated the M1907. They didn't make very many of them, and even fewer survive today, but they are out there. Just thought I'd point it out

Love this video. I am that guy who started collecting as many as the allied and axis weapons from WWII. Then I stumbled onto my first 1941 straight stock M39 Finn. almost 20 years ago now. Now the collection is M91's, M24's, M27's, M28's, M28-30' and M39's. It is an illness lol. They are amazing weapons. There are 8 models and years I do not or will not ever own. The rarest of the rare. Thank you for your video it is very accurate.

Don't buy surplus for two reasons. One it's a bitch to clean. 2 accuracy varies a lot with surplus. I buy tula for my shtf stockpile. Cheap plentiful and pretty good accuracy wise. Then for when I want to compete or just shoot better I buy mfs 180 grain... or brown/silver bear ammo. I also buy hornady hunting soft points too for hunting season. But yea if you just want cheap ammo buy tula

Eric, awesome video on the Mosin. I have always like the Mosin. I have 3. 2 rifles and one sniper. I they are refurbished. I want to get into collecting them, just start with one, but not a refurbished one. I plan on getting the book you spoke of by Doug Bowers in this video. You were asking for suggestions on future videos on the Mosin, I would say start with the first one, from Finland and only talk about this first this way you can cover this first rifle in-depth. Eric just my 2 cents, but again awesome video, I enjoy your insight into the different weapon platform you cover. Thanks, Don

I got a wierd one; a 1943 m9159 with the wierdest metal finishing I've seen. Every metal surface above the wood that is visible is machined to a near mirror polish and blued beautifully, but as soon as it goes to metal that's under wood, it is instantly super roughly machined and has a rough, dull finish. When disassembled and seen from the side, there is an obvious parting line where the finish goes from beautiful to ugly. Any Mosies out there maybe know why it might be like that?

He speaks very highly of the M39s and for good reason, after all, it was the final incarnation that became the Finnish standardized rifle for a while. Its predecessors are definitely rarer though. The "aura" of my M28 is just awesome, to think, the M28 was a civil guard only rifle, there are no civilian copies, and shortly after the winter war began... My imagination runs wild when I hold it/shoot it.
