“You got a day date complication. Which is critical on those longer dives.”
True words. You better know what day it is in one of those underwater dive bells 🔔
Seiko have everything you need.
But the right time
And having only one watch is boring
But nothing i want
Yes and no. Yes because Seiko has a very wide array of choice. However, it doesn't have everything you need because your needs will have to consider several factors such as affordability, purchasing power, utility, specs offered, etc.
They have everything you need huh? Contrast QC problems and crap movements
None of you mentioned the Orient Bambino 38mm for the dress category?? I'm disappointed! XD
Well, I’m on Andrew’s team. It’s true, Seiko has it all🤷🏼♂️😊.
I would, perhaps, add the best affordable world timer?
Normally, (IMO) Tom tends to knock it out of the park and take these "dial" offs no problem. And while he did bring in the most interesting and varying selections, I think Andrew brings it home this time.
The Seikos - clear winners but the Rally was very nice.
I feel like Andrew took so many Ls he played his selections very safe to get a long sought win.
Either that - or I have become a Seiko fanboi.
Agree with the Boldr Rally bringing something different. They have a few gems on their site - the Medic variants are nice too.
Gotta give it to Tom this time around, with a more varied collection. My picks would be:
Diver: Citizen NY0040
Dress watch: Tissot Le Locle
Chronograph: Seagull 1963
GMT: Phoibos Voyager GMT
Military watch: Boderry Voyager
Let me know what you think 😊
Certina DS Action Diver at 38mm should definitely get a mention. At 38mm, ISO-certified diver, 300m water resistance, Powermatic 80 movement, the watch is absolutely a bliss for small wrist wearers who want a decent Swiss automatic diver at affordable price. I used to own one but I realize it was just a bit too small for my wrist. I wish they could release it at 39-41mm to fit more wrist sizes.
Love the Mido Ocean Star - all the features you want in a diver, and it looks almost dressy. My pick for a "one watch collection".
I love it too, especially the GMT special edition. 😍
@@benjamintchang3923 the GMT version is incredible. I was very close to pulling the trigger on that one. Unfortunately the long lug-to-lug distance on the GMT version would've dwarfed my skinny wrist.
The Ocean Star Tribute is also a very nice smaller option... Just no applied indexes
Seiko without a doubt have something somewhere that should cover all general categories including new ones that we never knew existed. They might even have a piece designed for cave dwellers that uses a sun dial with a little remote LED fire fly to emulate the sun and a built in compass, different hemisphere no problem just flip that firefly. Tom wins this one. All good fun guys. Cheers for sharing.
My, my, my, how far Tom has come as a watch boffin in such a short time. Well done.
Aviation cocktail:
2oz gin
3/4oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2oz maraschino liqueur
1/2oz crème de violette
Shake with ice, strain into coupe glass, garnish with lemon and/or cherry. Should be a nice light purple color, primarily from the crème de violette.
You guys got me with genuine Timex leather. 🤣🤣 But all being said my grandfather & myself have many others watches like Bulova, Citizen, Seiko etc. But we had never been laid down by a Timex watch and always it's the one that I keep going to all the time. 🐷leather 😂😂
Fantastic as always… and it is impressive how prolific Seiko really is, from these “cheaper” suggestions all the way up to Laurent Ferrier type Credor and beyond… it’s shocking! All great choices and you guys have amazing chemistry in how you do these videos 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Timex. Acrylic. Integrated rubber band. Quartz.
Is this out of season April Fools joke?
I love my Q Timex GMT and thoroughly recommend it. I ordered it in the same configuration as in the video almost a year ago and have not had any issues. The 38mm case is a perfect size, is very comfortable on the wrist with the rubber strap and it looks great. I've nicknames it the Vader. The Swiss movement by the way is a Ronda 505.24H.
Hi James, do you mind telling me the lug to lug distance of said GMT? Thanks!
@@jm.varian911 It's 44.5mm, as measured using my vernier caliper.
I too have the Darth
I wonder what the ratio of dive watch sales to actual divers is???
1. Orient bambino
2. Citizen NB 1050
3. Brew metric retro
4. Seiko turtle
5. Any G shock
Hey, can someone help to report all this spam crap?
Thankeew !😊
I really can't get why they declare such bad precision for the Seiko 4R movements, I believe it's because of lack of regulation during assembly and not because of poor movement as one can suppose, because I own quite few of them and, after I regulate them on my timegrapher, they generally are all within +/- 2/4 seconds/day...
The 24h useless subdial of the Boldr (and Seiko) chrono is a total deal breaker for me, also the image at 8:31 is false: the 24h subdial can't indicate that with the other hands in those position. I'd rather go for a VRATISLAVIA CONCEPTUM - HERITAGE CHRONO, same price, but with a more "car inspired" dial and a similar movement without stupid 24h subdials.
Great article, gotta say Seiko are pretty good. The amount of times I've heard reviewers say go for a Hamilton Khaki over the Seiko Field watches if you can afford it, are many. Then in the last week or so, I have heard of 5 anecdotes about how Hamilton Khaki fields fog up as soon as they come anywhere near moisture! Sounds like they have a real issue making water resitant timepieces.
cant stand how seiko puts the model #s at the bottom of the dial...outta place and gross imo
haha love that Andrew picked Seiko for every category. You really can't go wrong with Seiko, so Andrew gets my vote.
This should have been called, Seiko will cover all your watch scenarios!
I love how the REAL answer is always Seiko lol. Great video lads!
Glad moonswatches aren’t on this list
I like how Mido managed a day date without affecting the marker at 3, noice.
There is no question from Seiko Turtle, to Alpinist, to Presage Sharp Edge, is truly the prestige watch family to service all watch needs.
I thought you guys said affordable?
Better video for you would be cheapest watches then.
The watches shown here cost 250-900 GBP, so I think they may be recognized as affordable ones.
Affordable to those that can afford them.
You could afford a phone to watch this, so watch your wallet to be able to afford also those watches 🎉
Casio Men's MDV106-1AV 200 M WR a very affordable dive watch
Well a Boldr chrono with a Luminous dial would be super useful at the Bol B'Or which is the oldest endurance race still run today. Started in 1922, factlet of the day.
Of course there are a lot of Seikos. Not mentioning a bunch of Seikos in a discussion about affordable mechanical watches is like talking about pantry staples and not mentioning salt
Ive been thinking about the seiko blueberry skx gmt and I think youve convinced me now. And the fact you've used the orange one when i have the orange seiko 5 gave me a confidence boost lol.
If I had to do this list it would go like this:
Diver: Orient Kamasu
Dress Watch: Timex Marlin
Chronograph: Seagull
GMT: Seiko SRPD GMT
Military: Hamilton Khaki Field
Very Very Generic i know
Solid is the word you're looking for
Thats the classic, you cant go wrong, list.
There is a lot of Seiko 5 going on here! Not least Boldr which, in my view, is largely a Seiko 5 clone. If you want a classic field watch I would suggest a CWC. Although I'm not sure they are in the affordable definition, whatever that is.
Hamilton Murph field watch
SEIKO SSK813 black and white panda chrono
Citizen Promaster Super Titanium NB6021-68L
Tissot PRX Green dial
Timex Georgio Galli S1 blue dial
I should probably apologise for this in advance, but across some YT channels this is getting silly. My issue with this vid is it suffers from the same problem TUG is wrestling with - this is 2023 not 2003. Unfortunately/fortunately in 2023 there is an enormous and disruptive challenge in the affordable watches space - Chinese brands. The quality of the average Baltany or San Martin leaves most of the cliches you've covered in the dust for less than half the price. Publishing an advisory video on "the best" affordable watches without including Chinese brands simply isn't credible in 2023. Or is it just prejudice?
1. Seiko 5 sports (any), 2. Steinhart 42mm Vintage GMT, 3. Tissot PRX powermatic 80, 4. Hamilton Khaki King, 5. Orient Star 1964 Diver
In regard to the SEIKO GMT: This is a diver watch you can't use for diving, an imposter. SEIKO tells us customers "... if you want to have a dive watch with SKX-looks you have to spend more money"
How could you *not* pick the CWC G10 as a field watch for £230?? It is a true, military-proven field watch issued by the MOD.
I love the sarcastic banter on this show. Keep it up!
I've found these lists a bit boring lately. In a list of the best affordable watches in every category, 6 Seiko's and not a single Citizen or Casio Come on Andrew, try harder.
This comes after a list of the 10 best divers with 5 from the Rolex group alone. Methinks Watchfinder needs to shift some stock of certain brands...
The Dankpods comparison music in the background is causing me to continuously brace for shouting about nuggets.
Shame the Smith's Everest PRS-25 didn't get a look in. I guess it's not actually possible to buy one right now
What about this for the diver: a Smiths Commander by Time factors this is a 38mm 300m diver with a Miyota 9039 movement and its a British company and costs £365.
No offense, but little too much Seiko. And, please, leave the "wobling" effect, it's a bit annoying. Otherwise: good video as always.
As a fairly new watch idiot I am wondering why majority of GMT watches are divers? I mean you hardly dive from a time zone to another. Something more dress oriented would fit better for airport lounges…
Seiko presage is definitely worth it
Love the selection! I think a good nickname for the all black times would be the “black bird” after the SR-71
Check out the Wasson Automatic Field Watch by a microbrand. An excellent watch for under $1000
"Affordable" - first watch is 850 pounds. wut.....
people keep forgetting about Citizen AV0090-50A - the Ron Swanson watch
When are they going to get it through their thick sculls that the date sitting on the six indice like the Aqua Terra is such a Turn off !!!!! The timex needs a better colour variant but is the best bang for the dollar.
There are three versions of the Seiko GMT you're the one Blackberry 003 blueberry 005 Winterberry
Breitling Emergency would be for me the best travel - sport - gmt watch :)
I think Citizen/Miyota might have something to say about that “go-to” GMT movement for micro brands, Andrew…
That White face BoldR rally 1 chrono, wow! I feel the urge to buy it immediately.
would like to have seen MWC in there just bought their tritium offering a brilliant field watch
I don't care what you believe but believe in AWM23K that's all I want to add here
Andrew be like seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko seiko
6:36 so at this point we have seen 4 watches.. but only two movements ETA 80 series and Seiko 4R … 6:36 let’s see what comes next… 14:09 4R number 3 17:54 4R number 4…and also what I’m wearing right now
5 YEARS!!!!
he hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal
Tom wins 10-0. This video is the definitive proof Seiko is outdated and boring.
Go Tom! I like Mido as a brand, and I own the Commando model of the Serica.
Replace all those Seikos with Christopher Wards and you have a winner.
I love Seiko, but that Serica and also the Boldr are cool as hell (sorry, Andrew)
whatever audio compression you did to make this video play loud makes it sound terrible.
Longines la grand Classic Automatic best dress watch
I wonder who else caught the "Pulp Fiction" reference.....?
CWC for me:
G10 - military/field/everyday
RN300 - diver
Andrew had best suggestions! Seiko and Grand Seiko rule!
The turtle looks like a turtle looking to the side from above lugs are flippers crown is head
Do you gents actually own these watches or physically reviewed them?
Here are my choices
1. Diver: Seiko Turtle PADI
2. Dress: Orient Bambino 38mm or Timex Marlin 34mm
3. Chronograph: Bulova Lunar Pilot 43 mm
4. GMT: Torgeon T9
5. Military: Citizen Garrison BM8560-53E
That Serica.... 🤩
Andrew under Seiko's payroll or something? Lol
Tom by a mile…Andrew rushing out the door Fri afternoon?
Tom!.. Andrew phoned it in with seiko, copied your homework.
Surprised by all the seiko's. Yet I am not surprised.
I would call the Timex GMT the ‘Dark knight’
Great picks for us plebs. Also you guys are very funny.
Next: Do best value watch at each price range!
Tom did apparently put a little more effort into this one.
Presage for dress? Hmph. Looks more every day to me. How about a Seiko solar tank instead? Dress watches should be thin and discreet (sp?). Field and every day watches definitely need to be solar for accuracy and utility. You can't be adjusting your time every other day on safari. Automatics are ok for every day but you'll have to adjust them on Monday mornings and live with their bulk all the time. I say go solar for accuracy and reliability, specially on an occasional use watch.
I think you guys need a dictionary. Or a shrink.
The best way to save on a watch is not to buy one. No one is required to have a watch, actually. It is rather like sushi, if you want to brag about eating sushi, while you want to save money at the same time, just try to get yesterday's sushi. Unforgettable experience is guaranteed. But I digressed. My point is that having explained what are the best affordable watches, you forgot to mention, why one needs an affordable watch. Next video, maybe? Cheers!
I received a Citizen Pro Diver for Christmas. Eco Drive, Blue Bezel/Dial and Strap. 200m, 43mm size, crown is at 4 o’clock which is really great and the lume is amazing
Well done!
The +40 sec/day spec on that Seiko movement swings me to the other side. I know the watch usually does much better, but I have received NOB Seiko running +30 and over, but they have that covered. "It is within specs, mate". Cracking the back voids the warranty and you risk bricking the watch. Seiko, with your pedigree, think of throwing us poor lads a crumb and get that precision down to +20 or even +15. Hopefully the watch will still out perform +20. All IMHO and with a smile of course.
I really like the Serica field watch. I may even save up and buy one.
You do a fantastic job with this channel and I look forward to the uploads.
Tom did much better, according to my taste.
In the affordable watch category the most affordable watch is a ...
I wouldn't want to own one that falls in that category.
Why?
Have the prospex Padi Pepsi and I want a Boldr
I think Andrew missed the memo for this and instead somehow heard they're doing a talk on 'the best seiko watches to buy in 2023' 😉🤣 only messing. It goes to show however just how much value seiko can offer the consumer in a market where a lot of times £1000 can't get you anything special. The speedtimer is just 😍
Yeah the SS ke005 by Seiko what some call Winterberry I would have preferred you went with the Blackberry SSK001 or the blueberry version SSk003
Tom: whatever / Andrew: Seiko...
This sounds like an old turntable that the needle got stuck! 😋
(or bad cop / good cop, where Seiko is ALWAYS the good cop... hahaha)
Hmmm, most of the watches in my collection mainly consists of Seiko tbh, 9 to be exact.
Sounds quite a lot to have of one particular brand, but that wont stop me from buying another one.
Although some of my Seikos may fall under the same category and style, I believe each one of my seikos looks unique enough to offer me something different to wear.
I can't decide. I think I might be on Tom's side though. If i was spending around $500 I would have a hard time looking at Seiko unless it was a deal on a willard. Lots of other options out there with good materials and construction. The micros use Seiko movements a lot anyway.
With AWM23K it's the first time since the whole pandemic stuff I think we can surely save the planet and save ourselves with increasing living costs and what not
You can pry my turtle from my cold dead hands
I like seiko but I think Tom's list was better
Turtle not for me horrible shaped case
Please no more Seiko. They are fine but let’s see options from other brands.
I thought it was funny. Especially when Tom was like... wait, what?
I have 3 Seikos and am trying to avoid buying a 4th, but that GMT is extremely tempting
@khaaaaaaaaaaannn. Dont worry yet, i'm on 16 seiko's 4 kings, 8 grands & 2 lm's & 1regular & 1diver diver & looking for 17 but at least i have it down to a particular model..
This episode brought to you by Seiko 😂
