Holy fuck this comment hit like a truck... I was looking this game up because I was remeniscing playing this with my cousin that passed away as well... RIP to the two of them! I will never forget the good times!
I finally , finally found this game My big bro died a year ago, and when I was way too young to remember video game’s names we played this nonstop. Rest In Peace brother I’m playing this for the both of us now
I would have a hard time playing video games I use to play with my brother if he passed away. I would be too busy crying constantly. So I'm sorry for your loss and hope you're doing well.
This game would be so cool with the current NBA players being updated every year and having a season and playoff mode. I would never enjoy any other NBA game as much.
Its sad that Midway died out along with arcades. They were arcade first and didn't get with the times. Anyway, my childhood and teenage years was Cruisin USA, Hangtime, NFL Blitz, Hydro Thunder, and MK. Memories.
Either a win or lose against the CPU, NBA Hangtime basketball is always the best. Greatest feature: The sports announcer talking throughout the rounds.
me and my brother were straight up possessed to play this game. i was the green alien and he was the wolf. and gaining skill points and ever increasing stats. we laughed every time the announcer thinking he said 'baseline weenier'. and we were always excited to get the rooftop court.
@@thebrokenrattle good ol sitting on the floor in front of the tv memories. but that was probably the first game i played with a stat progression system.
@@adventures_w_otto1370 I remember enjoying playing the non human characters as well. Totally forgot this game even existed since I was born in 92 so was very young when i played. Kind of cool that even though were strangers, we both have some similar fond memories
Growing up I was pissed he wasn't in any of the games. Always just some dude named 23. Later I learned it was because of his image use and him not joining the National Basketball Players Association’s Shared Licensing Agreement. His reasoning it wasn't about the money but he wanted the characters to look like him and actually reflect his stats so it doesn't promote a false image. Shits 2d Michael.
Michael Jordan was not a part of the NBAPA which is why he was absent from damn near every NBA game in the 90s. NBA Live 2000 was the first officially licensed NBA game I believe to feature him.
The arcade version went with DCS sound (MK 2 was the first to use this sound technology in arcades by Midway), this sound couldn't quite be replicated on the home versions, though the PS1 version came quite close (they even added vocal samples in the ingame music not in the arcade version). The N64's sound was heavily compressed, you could tell by the muffled speech.
You couldn't do that in this particular game that I know of, but rather in the initial arcade version of NBA Showtime: NBA On NBC. The later editions of it had to unfortunately remove him, since he was cut from the Lakers by then though.
This might be a weird question but I've always been extremely intrigued by this. At 0:41 is that a suite section in the stands? I've always wanted to know.
Never really got to play this one as much as Jam and TE. Animation looks much improved and the rubber banding seems improved even from TE. However, even though the sfx are super clean, the voice just seems to lack the enthusiasm of the originals. Still, I’d love to have one of these cabs.
Mannnnn i played this shit for money when i used to ditch school we used to play this so much i thought the game would break shoutout to my aunt for always getting what i asked for and not want she wanted me to have for Christmas always had the best gifts hands down
Had this for PlayStation, my little bro and I would always play as the Lakers. His favorite player was Nick Van Exel and I’d always play as Kobe Bryant or Eddie Jones
This is the first time I’ve seen this game. Is this the true sequel to NBA jam? And I love the inclusion of alley oops, but it seems like too easy of a basket imo. Same thing with NBA street. Anyone feel the same way?
I honestly thought they were not going to top NBA JAM T.E. but Midway did!!!! Even though Acclaim bought the rights to the NBA JAM trademark Midway still was able to top them out[Acclaim] with their own game
lol hated Goal tending, that was the worse thing about this game. Something they don't have in regular basketball games. Never understood why they had that there just to screw you over if you tried blocking or grabbing the ball.

babyfirefly Sorry for your loss
Yea man sorry to hear about your cuz..Definitely have memories of playing this game with my brother back in the day
Sorry for your loss brother
You'll always have hangtime, my man.

I love this game too,my greetings for you and for your brother too 😊👍🏻🌸.
Rip... I play this the first time on arcade, then my dad bought for me back in the 90s for n64 but I remember maximum Hangtime

I still don't understand how, with the INSANE success of the Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam and NFL Blitz series, Midway managed to tank. I don't get it.
Me either. But, that's what happens. The best just fall off like that.
Tarbosh D'Artagnan IV Arcades dying killed Midway. They were an arcade company first and foremost
@@bossshun9 Things dont 'just' happen.
Naming all of those games got me flasbacking hard right now. What a terrible fall it was
This game would be so cool with the current NBA players being updated every year and having a season and playoff mode. I would never enjoy any other NBA game as much.
Memories ❣️ I played this for hours and hours as a teenager
Perfect escape from disfunctionality
The music in this game was just flat out awesome. What a great era.
Its sad that Midway died out along with arcades. They were arcade first and didn't get with the times. Anyway, my childhood and teenage years was Cruisin USA, Hangtime, NFL Blitz, Hydro Thunder, and MK. Memories.
The sound effects and soundtrack are great!
Either a win or lose against the CPU, NBA Hangtime basketball is always the best.

Yeah, NBA Jam got it started, but Hangtime was a much better game.
Yeah It's easily more competitive than any 2k game. My favorite all time basketball game.
ehh, he's no Tim Kitzrow though.
Hangtime is to Jam as New Vegas is to Fallout 3. As Vice City and San Andreas are to GTA III, as Majora's Mask is to Ocarina of Time.
This will be added with nba jam on the arcade one up!!! Hell yea
I like how Rodman just pushes people over and steals the ball
The game was made for Dennis.
me and my brother were straight up possessed to play this game. i was the green alien and he was the wolf. and gaining skill points and ever increasing stats. we laughed every time the announcer thinking he said 'baseline weenier'. and we were always excited to get the rooftop court.
That sounds fucking awesome :)

Youre so good at this game! That last 30 seconds when you were the bulls was some defensive art
I grew up on this too! Oh my God! Such an absolute classic game
Loved this as a successor to NBA jam
Damn! This is almost as good as NBA JAM cause it has better sound effects and soundtrack!
Most underrated game. I remember spending literally 13 hours nonstop on this game
This needs to be on arcade up
NBA Hang time >>>> NBA jam
Dude the full court shot with Drexler at the end of the 1st was NUTS.
Pourquoi il y’a Jacques Chirac en chemise blanche cravate sur le banc des coachs ?
Jacques Chirac aimait probablement le basketball.
Used to play this game and create a player with all the stats up to 99. My friends and I used to be so pissed that MJ wasn't in the game.

He was on NBA Live for super Nintendo... You are right though my brother told me the same story back in the days
Michael Jordan was not a part of the NBAPA which is why he was absent from damn near every NBA game in the 90s. NBA Live 2000 was the first officially licensed NBA game I believe to feature him.
The half-time leader is, Scottie Pippen
Man, i love this game.
Woah the sound effects and voices are clearer than the n64.
I knew thid game because of the N64 version

Love how they let you just push people to the ground lol
From what I remember you can actually change Dennis Rodmans hair color
I had no idea you could do that. Thanks
You couldn't do that in this particular game that I know of, but rather in the initial arcade version of NBA Showtime: NBA On NBC. The later editions of it had to unfortunately remove him, since he was cut from the Lakers by then though.
U could? Wow that's new to me.

Love this game had it on n64 liked the create a player in this and NBA showtime
Love the sound quality 😍
I have this arcade game at my house in 2022 and I play with my dad.
I just cant imagine that they remastered and bring this back but play online and have 2005,2010,2020 Roster.
Aaaiiiirrrrbaaaallll 👏🏻
The Bulls were pretty much a cheat code in this game back then when Michael Jordan wasn't even in this game.
Why are players on one side of the court shooting right handed and on the other side shooting left handed?
If this game was called NBA JAM 3 (like it deserves) it would have had a much more of a success
Mannnnn i played this shit for money when i used to ditch school we used to play this so much i thought the game would break shoutout to my aunt for always getting what i asked for and not want she wanted me to have for Christmas always had the best gifts hands down
You gotta start shoving at the end of their dunks, works a lot better than just jumping
2:58 What's with the goal tending?!
1:49 5:01 6:11 6:42 8:40 10:14 Knock it off!!
The sound of the arcade version lol official
The hidden basketball courts in the game were cool
The first team you picked was really good I use it all the time
How did they mess up Vancouver’s colors? Should be teal.
Facts
2:55 Rodman 😆😅😂🤣😭💀
the sound effects in the game is funny
Needs a reboot!
Did anyone ever play any other team then the bulls?
Had this for PlayStation, my little bro and I would always play as the Lakers. His favorite player was Nick Van Exel and I’d always play as Kobe Bryant or Eddie Jones
Washington Webber and Howard.
The Knicks w/ Ewing and Oakley
As well as the Spurs, Magic, Trailblazers and Kings
Wheeling and dealing
10:19 haha this game cheated so hard

Yes, Hangtime was the true sequel to NBA JAM.

Just google NBA Hangtime rom. You'll need MAME to play it.

I play it on the MAME arcade emulator.

You can get team on fire by doing double dunks three in a row. Makes your team op.
Midway Presents NBA Hangtime

Of course no where to be found
Licensing would've cost Midway a fortune for Jordan.
😒not putting Jordan on this game is flagrant and diabolically criminal
