Shawn have you run across a product called Salt-away (I get it at West Marine)? It’s a biodegradable wash down for salt removal. It fabulous... I’m like you I’m a clean fanatic and use to hand the wash the bright work with boat soap and water. Now when we get back from a trip I rinse all of the exposed areas with the salt-away applicator and then rinse with fresh was the salt is gone. Then go over the bright work with micro fiber and it looks great. Still wax it all 2 times a year. Also use the Salt-away on our engines.... keeps scaling down on the interior of the heat exchange surfaces. Excellent Post...Looks like your having an Indian Summer in the GNW... Enjoy!

@@mvfreedom I put block heaters in two boats that I ran for the Vancouver Maritime Museum, one keel cooled and the other with seawater exchanger, what I found is the block heater kept the 671's nice and warm and that kept the boat drier inside as they act as a big radiator. These boats sat more than yours so the effect will be less for you and your engine is more protected, along with being a 4 stroke (2 strokes are cranky when cold!) All in all I found them to be quite beneficial, even in our more temperate climate, I suspect the installation would be easy for you, and might make a good backup heat source when you have shore power. I'd plunk down the downpayment cabbage on a brand new Nordhaven but designed exactly as you would like as you're already an owner operator and I think would make for positive vibes for everyone but especially Nordhaven. One guy I watched has owned 7 of them i think to include KatyKrogens as well but nothing beats new from the Factory and this is a West Coast thang so it doesn't get any better since you're already out that way. I'm not sure if there is a marine spec for oil filters as there is for fuel filters. If they can scrape extra dollars from you simply by stamping the word MARINE on it, they will. Wix is a good resource for filter info

Hey, did you ever consider lithium batteries? Didn't find a lot of info on power boats, usually used a lot on sailing boats but I am curious if it would be worth.
I've been installing more lithium this year, but prices are only just starting to become attractive. Powerboats generally have enough generation sources (main engine alternators and generators) that owners aren't as concerned with long-durations w/o recharge since they are recharging any time they are underway as compared to sailors who (ideally at least) aren't running a power source underway.
bought a forward looking sonar and it is not worth the money as the best readings are at 45 degrees to bottom of the mount and the boat is on the obstruction before you can react.
This has been my experience in the past - they seemed like a great idea but the reality wasn't as good as expectation. However with all the recent advents in side-scan sonars I expect I'm a bit behind the curve regarding the latest in fwd looking and even if not, I'm sure the tech will be coming soon as the first company to make it cheap, effective, and easy to use will have a game-changer. Every new boater wants it!
This is what I made, but there’s a better recipe at sallysbakingaddiction.com/salted-caramel-apple-pie-bars/ Here’s my “healthier” version. It’s very easy! Crumble is 2 c. oats, 1/2 c. fine almond flour, 1/4 c. coconut sugar or brown sugar, and enough butter or coconut oil (soft not melted) to form crumble. The base is sliced apples, pears, cinnamon, few splashes of whiskey and 4 tbsp. maple syrup. Bake 375 degrees F for 60 minutes or until apples are fully cooked! Many an older fart don't hang out in Instagram, folks like me... lol. So, I'll ask a question here. I didn't get a full "head on" look at your stove/oven but it appears to be a Force 10, a three burner? I have a Force 10 2 burner and some complain about the oven holding heat if the door is opened. Some put ceramic tiles on the metal shelf at the bottom, some put pizza stones (to big for my oven). I am thinking of approaching a potter to make a rectangular pizza stone that will fit the oven. How is your oven for holding a heat after you have opened the door for a closer peak at cooking item? Forward Looking Sonar: I have a Garmin unit. I got it for two big reasons, gunkholing - what you alluded to in this vid. And logs in the water. By the way, after an almost two year refit on my boat when I put it in the water for the first time, during the sea trial in the first twenty minutes I hit a log at roughly 20 knots. My new Merc stern drive - Bravo 2 - came slamming up and all I could see was dollar signs in my mind. Fortunately no damage was sustained which is amazing if you had hear how loud the hit. My forward looking sonar is good for 8 knots and lower. You can set a collision alarm, think logs here. But lets get back to the gunkholing discussion. Do you really want to get in the dinky during a wretched Pacific Northwest heavy rain, looking for uncharted rocks and shoals? The range is roughly a hundred yards but entering an unknown area you are probably only going to be cruising at 2 knots or so. As you go further North into BC and beyound Desolation Sound, into the Broughtons, further North to Prince Rupert and into the Alaskan pan handle, you might find you are happy to have another "eye" on the boat. Yes, the border will be open eventually, a vague possibility for next summer, but I doubt it - hope I'm wrong.
The oven isn’t good holding heat if we open the door but not horrible. It takes a bit to get up to temp, so this is one thing we’d love to replace someday.
If you’re not a licensed Captain you’ll need a boaters safety in most states. Shawn’s a Capt and I have my boaters safety, soon to be Captain this winter!
Not withstanding the insurance requirements a marine surveyor will look at the boat objectively and spot any potential problems that you may miss due to being all glassy eyed at this point. I live in Australia and our yacht is insured for normal use but if we are going racing offshore that needs to be extended and if we want to sail to a pacific island then another policy needs to be purchased before leaving our territorial waters. As for forward facing sonar, fishermen like them but for the expense scouting in the tender works fine, we have a portable sounder for the tender.
Anything that lives on the water & that you live in will eventually have a problem, minor hopefully. Blocked drains are typical. As for the leaks up top, anytime you drill a hole in something just with expansion & contraction you risk a leak. Just reseat & use good sealant & your good to go. Why do you think the big yachts have a full-time crew. They are always working on maintenance issues. If I had the money Nordhavn (60) would be the only choice.

are you guys done with alaska waterway for the season? or is it possible to
do the alaska waterway in winter? if you wanted too.
We haven’t gone to Alaska yet but plan to in 2021. It’s possible in the winter although not as enjoyable...lots more rain and storms.
@@mvfreedom yeah i guess your right, but you guys go as far as the southern islands north of vancouver.
That's nasty Elizabeth. You had toilet/shop vac fingers sticking them in Shaun's mouth. Lol.
As long the water is comming from above insted belowe notting to worry about I gues , it's not nice but....Try a Dutch apple pie . Greetings from the Netherlands.
I’ve been meaning to ask how you guys deal with internet and TV? There seems to be no good options.
We are considering lithium but since we replaced our AGM’s last summer we’re waiting until they’re ready to be upgraded.
bought a forward looking sonar and it is not worth the money as the best readings are at 45 degrees to bottom of the mount and the boat is on the obstruction before you can react.
Good to know!
it works nicely if its on the front. you get 8ft in front for every foot of depth. so 240ft for 30 ft of depth. at 2-3 kn you can stop in time.
Lekker man lekker
What was in apple crisp please. ?
This is what I made, but there’s a better recipe at sallysbakingaddiction.com/salted-caramel-apple-pie-bars/
Here’s my “healthier” version.
After it cools a bit, enjoy with ice cream and Reddi Whip 👍👍👍
Hi guys . Mike in Chicago . I'm Irish and Mexican and am curious what your ethnic backgrounds are ?
Shawn’s German/Italian and I’m Sicilian/Turkish/Libyan 👍
google Nanaimo bars great for this time of the year (actually any time) you know where Nanaimo is
LOVE both the bars and the city. The first time we were there we stocked the fridge with the bars from the bakery at the dock 👍
@@mvfreedom Some, after opening the door or just warming up the oven, use the broiler to speed up the heat.
Hey, can you please give me the name of your drone and if you are happy with it. Not on Instagram either....Thanks Mike San Diego.
They have 2 drones. A Magic Mini, and an Air. They are listed in the drop down on the videos. 🙂
Yes both DJI Mini and Air 2 👍
Thank you
Does a person have special license to pilot their own boat like you have
If you’re not a licensed Captain you’ll need a boaters safety in most states.
Does anyone else think Shawn looks like Jason Segel?
👍👍
I was under the impression these exspensive nordhavens never had any problems..lol
We’ve had zero major problems, just problems common for a 16 year old boat!
It could also hsppen in a house
