Hi Jose! I've been following you and decided to take the plunge on this Nokia 6300 for digital minimalism/transition dveice. So far I'm still ambivalent on it... I was wondering which devices you mention in the video are better than this one (from Asia?). Please let me know, thanks for making these videos!
Hi! Love what you do here. I just bought this phone last night impulsively wanting to ditch my smart phone. In the past I have used super basic burners that don’t even work anymore. I have 2 little kids and decided I needed to still have Google maps or some comprehensive gps system as we are traveling a bit in the next year. The one thing I don’t like about this Nokia is no full keyboard. Texting even basic messages will probably be a challenge for me. Could you recommend another phone for me that has maps, and has a full keyboard but is a basic phone? I am trying to beat the social media addiction. I am also hoping this phone has Uber for my traveling. Thanks !!!
For YEARS. ..litterally years.... I PHYSICALLY FANTASIZE about carrying a bar phone again.(33yo) I miss them. The smartphones Now. Feel so .....disgusting. makes me feel dirty. Always so connected. Always listened to or watched. Or having to be forced to maintain the screen. Battery. Charger..size.. Capabilities..it's just OVER KILL already.. BIGGEST PROBLEM? being in the US 🇺🇸 and no one caring about bar phones. It's extremely difficult to figure out how to find a 4g decent bar phone .
What’s the hardware connectivity of the Nokia 6300 4g? Does it accept a standard 3.5mm plug for headphones? Is the FM radio antenna built in, or does it require an attachment? What Bluetooth version is supported? Thanks!
3.5mm is available. FM radio requires attachment, but there is a internet app that allows you to listen without it. Bluetooth 4.1. 4G LTE supported for VoLTE and VoWIFI
would you recommend this or the lg classic flip? i’d like to have a map app but also dont want to go through too much trouble just getting the phone to work
Hi Jose, thank you for the video. I just bought my new 6300 4g, and I am wondering what is the best way to transfer my contacts from my iPhone 8 to the Nokia. iPhone doesn't allow you to transfer contacts directly onto your SIM so I exported them as Vcard file and put them in a mini sd card. The Nokia is taking forever to import them from the sd card to the point that maybe that's not the way to do it? any suggestions?
I’ve heard mixed statements regarding if this works with Verizon reliably? In your title you have Verizon listed so I am assuming I could put the Sim from my iPhone into this and it would work?
Hi Jose, thanks for the video. I just bought the 6300 4g to hold my international sim card. It’s just sitting on my desk and I check it 3 times a day for calls or text messages. Usually I will only receive 2 messages from my phone carrier a day. I was wondering if it’s normal for the battery to go down 10% in 12 hours? The phone died within 4 and a half days and I rarely use it. I charged it with the original charger, Bluetooth off, wifi off, data off, and brightness is only at 20%. Should I get the 2720 flip instead? For a standby phone. Thanks so much :) so happy I stumbled across your channel. Sorry for asking so many questions.
I would say is pretty normal to get 4-5 days even when its on stand-by. There are other phones that use way less battery like the AGM M6, Servo R25, and Maxwest Neo 4G. They have call and text abilities, but they are the older kind. They last for 1 week for sure on standby. 2720 will have marginally better battery life than the 6300 4G
Ok, that’s good too know. I thought there’s something wrong with my battery. Thank you so much Jose for your recommendations. Will check it out! Cant wait to see more new videos!
Pretty good review, except you don't say how well the phone actually makes and receives calls! I have a Nokia 6300 4G, and I cannot make or receive calls if I leave the wifi calling option on all the time. The Google Assistant will not make calls, and when I tell it to set a timer, the "Assistant" will say that a timer has been set, but it never goes off. Have you had any of these issues with this phone?
Call quality has been excellent for me in my area with T-mobile. I have WiFi enabled and WiFi calling as well, so your unit may have issues from factory. Also, my google assistant works with those two commands above. I truly think you got a lemon or something is acting up, maybe doing a factory reset would help?
Nokia 6300 4g, agm m5, zmi z1, which is best to daily use and which one has good battery life,( I think qin f21 Pro is good, but it has only single sim). I'm in Sri Lanka. Any suggestions. Please.
Hi Jose! Thank you very much for the video and the info! I'm definitely buying this once I get my pay, but I have a huge question: Can we use Whatsapp web? Does the KAIOS recognize the QR and such? Thank you!
How the hell do you set up the voicemail hot key to your own voicemail number. I have not found anyway to program the correct number to this device (using the #1 voicemail hot key). It seems defaulted to my US version as '186'.. and makes having the speed dial key with the voicemail key USELESS. Witch makes this a big flaw.
Which carrier are you using with the Banana Phone? The phone was not launched in the US and I have always been hesitant to buy it on eBay if it will not work on T-Mobile.
Excellent info, thanks Jose. I was debating between this device and the Schok Classic Flip; I ended up getting this Nokia 6300 4G today!! As a LONG time iPhone user, I was expecting it to be much worse; honestly, it’s not bad so far. One issue I encountered was that when my wife texts me a photo, from her new iPhone SE, the Nokia shows me a preview, but then says “image too large to be displayed in Gallery”. Is there any fix for this?? I do not have a microSD card installed right now, I’m wondering if that has anything to do with it?? Anyhow, thanks for answering questions, I know you’re not tech support. Also, I did subscribe, please keep the good digital minimalism content flowing!!
Images from iPhones are usually too large for the phone to process. If you have WhatsApp, it’s better that your wife sends it that way so you can download it later. It is not a problem of an SD card. The issue is that the Operating system can only support a certain level of image size. Like the phones of old haha. It’s an inconvenience for sure and we are hoping that KaiOS 3.0 fixes some of these later this year :)
Jose~ I have a very specific application. I'm taking incoming calls only & my only concern is a LOUD speakerphone~ how is the speaker on this? Thanks from Las Vegas!
Would you recommend this device to go internationally? I’m traveling soon to Latin America and I’m just looking for a phone I can use without risking losing or getting mugged for my iPhone.
Can you dive into the maps feature a bit more. Does it act like true Google maps? Does it tell you traffic and alternative routes? If there is a wreck while driving will it tell you to change course? I'm thinking this if the route I'm going to go, i just want to know what I'm getting myself into.
No. It's a list of steps to get to your destination. You have to switch to the next step when you are done with step 1 for example. It's not live turn by turn navigation. If you rely on GPS to get around I would not recommend it
@@JoseBriones is there a minimalist phone with live gps or do I need to look for separate devices? In a perfect world I would have email, gps and group texting. I work in healthcare and need email access at the least.
On the fence about this one. I saw one person's review of this phone that the gps is wonky as you can't use it and have 4G on at the same time ? Does anyone know if that's true ?
I have tons of questions. lol, How is the google maps, the radio sound, and youtube? And does it run off of wifi for calling when you don't have minutes? Asking for my college kid. edit: three more questions, do Bluetooth earbuds work with, can you load music to it, and did we hear that right, you said it has ads coming on from Kaios? I know some will say just get a smartphone, but my student doesn't really want one due to being already overwhelmed with school during the pandemic. I ask about the earbuds and radio because they listen to a radio with corded buds, but that's always a worry sleeping with, even as a big kid and mom worries. Thanks-
1. Google maps: It's basic, not fancy. It will get you from point A to point B, but it's not turn by turn navigation. 2. Radio: It's good imo. Not superb quality, but you can listen to the radio via applications without issues 3. UA-cam: It works, it's not a consumption device, but it will play short videos 4. Bluetooth: Any Bluetooth device works 5. Ads: Yes. Most applications show ads on this phone and there is no way to circumvent that sad reality.
May I ask some question? Is Whatsapp able to be used for video-call in this Nokia 6300? (I have found out there's no front camera but just would like to know its efficiency before I buy it.) Thank you in advance.
So the difference between this and the original 6300 from 2007 is 4g and a downgraded plastic design? As a secondary phone should I just go for the original ?
so i got this phone but whenever im not connected to wifi the cellular data just doesnt work & idk why, i just switched my sim card from my old phone, its at&t & works for calls & regular texts but i cant connect to whatsapp when im not on wifi, is there a way to fix my cellular data to work on it

The reason why I asked is because the Nokia 225 puts the wrong timestamp on incoming texts, making it extremely difficult to follow a conversation, and I've never had that problem with any other phone. I can handle keypad texting, though. Thanks for the reply!
Doesn't have BAND 13 on the spec list for LTE freq. Deal killer for me as I pass by two cell towers that are only band 13 in my area. Too bad as I've been wanting a phone just like this for a long time.
Sorry to hear. Hope more bands come to your area
Thank you for the very nice review. Although, I’m looking for a budget phone similar to this one and was disappointed to find out about all of these flaws and I also have large hands so the size wasn’t very suiting. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you
It depends on your needs. A blanket recommendation without knowing your needs or where you are in the world would be the Schok Classic or the AGM M5, AGM M7. If you need to sort through different features, I built a tool in my website that helps you sort through features like MMS, WhatsApp, Signal, Carrier compatibility, etc. Go to www.josebriones.org/dumbphones and check it out :)
Thank you Jose. Great video, as usual !
Please tell me that version of KaiOS is able to change the tone for sms messages ? On Alcatel Smarflip is not changeable.
Yes. You can change it on this one :)
Hello, how do you change the tone of the sms? I can not find it. Can you tell me please.
@@debbie2114 Im sorry to say you cannot. that was a mistake above. I have not seen a KaiOS phone that you can change the sms tone, no matter what. although the Alcatel's are different from the Nokias.
The bad thing is that the international version doesn't come with a charger, I don't know if with a carrier comes with one, Jose by any chance do you know if Nokia is selling a charger apart for this phone?
Any microUSB charger should work.
Enjoy all your videos. One question, how can you remove those advertisement from showing on the bottom of the screen?
You cannot. They are baked into the OS and apps of the phone.
Hi Jose! I've been following you and decided to take the plunge on this Nokia 6300 for digital minimalism/transition dveice. So far I'm still ambivalent on it... I was wondering which devices you mention in the video are better than this one (from Asia?). Please let me know, thanks for making these videos!
Xiaomi F21 pro
Thanks !!!
I think the CAT S22 or the Xiaomi F22 Pro can be good options because of voice to text. Also, the Unihertz Titan Pocket can be another one.
what were those other devices that you mention at around 2:10 that you mention that reviewed or will be reviewing that are a similar price point?
Check my channel. I have tons of videos of similarly priced phones. Nokia, TCL, and other brands.
Hello Jose. Many greetings from Puerto Rico. This cell phone can answer calls by voice command through ok google?
Is it good to use it as a trap phone
For YEARS. ..litterally years....
Check out my filtering website www.josebriones.org/dumbphones and you can filter by candy bar phone :)
@@JoseBriones Thank you So very much. Very kind. I will do that today !
For me, I don't really have much of a choice. It's a nice KaiOS phone that works on Boost Mobile. What more do I need?
Can you install custom launchers on Kai? I added a minimalist launder on my Palm phone and it helped the user experience a ton!
No launchers on Kai right now :(
would you recommend this or the lg classic flip? i’d like to have a map app but also dont want to go through too much trouble just getting the phone to work
The LG Classic Flip is better in my opinion
Hi Jose, thank you for the video. I just bought my new 6300 4g, and I am wondering what is the best way to transfer my contacts from my iPhone 8 to the Nokia. iPhone doesn't allow you to transfer contacts directly onto your SIM so I exported them as Vcard file and put them in a mini sd card. The Nokia is taking forever to import them from the sd card to the point that maybe that's not the way to do it? any suggestions?
Transfer them via Google Sync
I’ve heard mixed statements regarding if this works with Verizon reliably? In your title you have Verizon listed so I am assuming I could put the Sim from my iPhone into this and it would work?
It works partially. It is approved, but sadly for some only texts, data work well and calls are hit and miss.
I also want to start using it as a weekend phone to take a break from a smartphone.
Is this phone have any fault or is it fail phone?
@@JoseBriones I have Consumer Cellular. Could that be part of the problem?
It certainly could. I don’t know if they allow WiFi calling in KaiOS devices
Nokia 6300 4g, agm m5, zmi z1, which is best to daily use and which one has good battery life,( I think qin f21 Pro is good, but it has only single sim). I'm in Sri Lanka. Any suggestions. Please.
AGM M5 or M7 works best for your needs. The Nokia 6300 comes after.
Can I use this with Visible network?
Hi Jose! Thank you very much for the video and the info! I'm definitely buying this once I get my pay, but I have a huge question: Can we use Whatsapp web? Does the KAIOS recognize the QR and such? Thank you!
No WhatsApp web, yes they have a qr code app
Can you use it as a hot spot? How long will the battery hold when used only as a hot spot?
Yes you can use it as a hotspot. The hot spot drains about 7-10% per hour
*Fixed* if any are having issues use the sim in slot 2 not slot 1.
When this will be launch in the Philippines?
Which carrier are you using with the Banana Phone? The phone was not launched in the US and I have always been hesitant to buy it on eBay if it will not work on T-Mobile.
ATT for the 8110 (Bananaphone). Otherwise it won't work.
Thanks!
Question, what are the non-smartphone alternatives you mentioned?
Are they available in America??
There are plenty of operating systems. Thread X, KaiOS, MuditaOS, LightOS, Punkt's Apostrophy OS
@@JoseBriones Oh, okay.
But what about the options for non-smartphone those OS's run on??
@@mdredheadguy1979 There is different ones. Bar phones, flip phones, etc. Check them out on the dumbphonefinder.com
@@JoseBriones Thanks!
@@JoseBriones thank you!
Is it worth to buy for a secondary phone?
And I am trying to using a feature phone for apart from device
There are better options like the Nokia 110 4G for secondary phone if all you are looking for is calls.
Jose~ I have a very specific application. I'm taking incoming calls only & my only concern is a LOUD speakerphone~ how is the speaker on this? Thanks from Las Vegas!
No different than the speaker on an iPhone. It is pretty loud, but not SUPER loud. If you want a loud speakerphone, the AGM M7 is the one to go for.
I would assume Maps would be an app that is used by a lot of people, when you get a chance it would be great to see that in action.
I’ve done a walkthrough of it on other videos. Check the KaiOS walkthrough or any of my livestreams with KaiOS phones.
do you think we'll get a email client for it?
It already has a native email client.
Would you recommend this device to go internationally? I’m traveling soon to Latin America and I’m just looking for a phone I can use without risking losing or getting mugged for my iPhone.
It should work with some networks, but it won't work with all of them. It really depends on where you are going.
Great review! Is there a way to get an add-free version of KaiOS? Happy to pay for it! Thanks!
No way to get ad-free KaiOS sadly
I miss how they would make the track pad a notification breathing light that would dim on and off with a txt
Not superb quality, but you can listen to the radio via applications without issues
3. UA-cam: It works, it's not a consumption device, but it will play short videos
4. Bluetooth: Any Bluetooth device works
5. Ads: Yes. Most applications show ads on this phone and there is no way to circumvent that sad reality.
Hey Jose, does this phone or one similar do wifi calls?
Some KaiOS devices do. Others don't. The 6300 does have wifi calling on TMobile if I recall correctly.

May I ask some question? Is Whatsapp able to be used for video-call in this Nokia 6300? (I have found out there's no front camera but just would like to know its efficiency before I buy it.) Thank you in advance.
No video calls. Only calls and texts via WhatsApp
Any issues with using this device with Consumer Cellular?
I don’t think it’ll be possible. Consumer Cellular only allows a selected number of devices sadly.

With minimal usage it can last up to four days
Or more

It does on version 2.5.4. But not on previous versions. Also, it varies depending on the region and wether the phone has been updated.
what u can say about the whatsapp? it is play good in this kaios phone? tks!
I wouldn't trust it anymore. They are pulling out of KaiOS per the latest news.
Does KaiOS get paid by Google and Facebook to preload their apps or something? It seems ridiculous to me - surely a large portion of US dumbphone users are minimalists when it comes to technology? I have to think these phones are either for grandma or smartphone abstainers.
google did invest in kaiOS, facebook idk.
it was the consumer that asked for whatsapp which facebook owns but these two can simply be removed unlike google which is probably more embedded now. the stock facebook app also works as the messenger app, just an fyi if you use that service.
