I wish 3g/2g still worked so you could use the premium dumb-phone options from the 2000s
Me too, I have some I wanted to bring back to life but they just won’t ever get any service…………… : (
It is too bad, I really miss my Blackberry.
I wonder if there’s a way to modify them to support 4G/5G
Spending $300-400 on a dumb phone, is dumb! 🤦 You shouldn't be spending anywhere near that.
Great list. I love the minimalist approach of Punkt MP02, but unfortunately the price is too much for a companion phone even with all the security and privacy tech under the hood. Perhaps Nokia 6300 could have made the list.
Sad to see where the dumbphone/feature phone market is. Kyocera seems to be the only ones taking them seriously.
Technically speaking, they could make a dumbphone with a decent modern camera for a fair price.
Duh
It’s a DUMB phone
also, make sure to pick a 4g model, because most of dumbphpnes are 2g, and lots of governements decided to turn off 2g and even 3g in 2024/2025. plus, 2g brings parasites noises to your fm radio and other stuff.
They'll turn off the 3G first since it's more problematic and because 5G runs well on the 2100 frequency band which is the main frequency band of 3G.
2G still has got a while.
Also, it depends on the country you're in and how many people have moved and switched to smartphones in that area.
Very extensive and helpful video! Judging the books in the background, I can see that maybe you took some classes at RTS or a different seminary!
I used a flip phone for ten years of my life, have used a smart phone for the past 3-4 years and want to go back. My favorite has been the Kyocera Dura - so durable.
thank you jose! i am not exaggerating when i say you're a bastion in the dumbphone community. lots of love ❤
Thank you! I'm looking for a dumb phone for my 12 year old. This helped me immensely. I appreciate your work.
Great video, thanks! I also enjoy your NIV application commentary
Having owned a Wisephone for 2 years and having interest in this market of phones as a whole, I found this content to be superbly curated! Thank you kind sir!
Great list kid. I'm still rocking the S22 as a daily and I use my Poco F4 for emulation when paired with my Gamesir X2 Pro controller. It seemed like a better use for a smartphone rather than distracting me all day long.
Excellent comment.
For years I had a dumbphone only but my PSP-Go was on hand too.
Great video as always. My biggest pet peeve is these feature phones tend to work slow and freeze up cos they make them do too much. My Nokia 3310 was never slow😢
You would think they would be cheaper than they are given their specs. You can get a budget smartphone for about the same price.
just make a phone that does calls, predictive t9 texting, and isn't HUGE.... please!!!!
@@nunyabusiness164 I think the Sunbeam F1 does that. They have 3 models: one that is just talk, another is talk and text, another has all that plus navigation.
Thanks for the video. It'd be useful to mention security update policy for devices running Android.
I'm looking for a Pixel 4a replacement because it stopped receiving updates recently.
Really appreciate your effort.
I had no idea the S22 price came down to dramatically...the only reason I didn't go with this was due to the high price...after seeing this video I ordered a new one sealed in a box for $75. Thanks!!!!
where did you buy a sealed one?
i want to see more manufacturers lean into android go for small and feature style phones instead if only slating if for watches. 5g, or rather the discontinuation 3g on major carriers in the states makes most unlocked feature phones unusable X(
I just got the S22 Flip and I's surprisingly usable. Then again, I am a millennial who use MSN mobile and Twitter for T9 feature phones for a long time. I was gonna go with the Xaomi one, but I prefer the look of the CAT.
I bought my new Verizon Kyocera Dura XV/XE flip phone in summer of 2018 and I love it! It's military grade, 100% water proof and it will take a beating! Dave...
love your channel, its so helpful! thank you :)
Really appreciate your explanation, every video really benefit so much.
The Pixel 3a XL is one of the most popular models of Pixels, thanks for pointing out the Ghost Phone model is making the same 3a model. The fingerprint reader on the back in my opinion is superiour to that on any phone face/screen. Its also a very light phone, battery life is great, camera is good, and the XL had a plastic screen (wont break easily).
$300 dumbphone is not a dumb phone, it's a smartphone well designed, to make profits on the back of naive consumers 😂
Waaaaaay overpriced. Buy a $29 shokt and disable everything.
Today china can produced $89 smartphone with
- unisoc T606 (8 core CPU ARMv8.b cortex A55)
- 6.7" IPS screen,
- gorrila glass 3 protection,
- 4GB LPDDR3 RAM,
- 64GB emmc 5.1,
- 50MP camera,
- Bluetooth 5.1,
- 4G VOLTE.
So there's no excuse dumbPhone need $300 with the spec from 2018. Security update for what if you can't install banking app......
Most of this dumbPhone is Just cash grab by company because they knew people Who refused to pay for smartphone will buy this overprice dumbPhone.
I can understand if they produced dumbphone similar quality from 2006 - 2011 but the quality is not there
Yeah. Profit. Ewww
alcatel 3082. 4g. comes with a wireless charging station. this is the one i recently purchased. very happy with it despite the impossibility to block numbers@@DarthAlgar5
Profit is not the problem. It is the complete lack of value for the money spent. And please don't say then don't buy it. That only follows and has nothing to do with the fact that it's not worth the money they're charging.
You are putting out excellent content, sir! Subscribed! 👏👏👏💪😎🇺🇲👏👏👏
Great list! I might get my hands on a Doro soon.. Got a Nokia right now, but it doesn't have whatsapp like some Doro devices do. And it's a must for where I live, sadly.
good stuff, bought your book looks tight. keep it up.
Apple just updated their OS to iOS 17 which has a new feature called Assistive Access. This feature turns the UI into an extremely simplified "baby" interface which makes it look like a dumbphone with huge icons. Each app icon is so large that only about six can fit on a screen at one time. This feature might be good for people who struggle with distraction as well as people with certain disabilities.
Japanese did this for the past 10 years. Right now i'm using Sony Xperia Ace III, this is japanese phone only and focused toward old person or a kid. I can change android UI to basic UI similar to dumbPhone is. Its docomo model and i'm using this Phone in Malaysia. Yes its works in south east Asia countries but Sony didn't release its successor yet......
Samsung has had this for years which is called “Easy Mode”
Nice thanks for the info. I didn't know this. I was looking for a dumbphone, but maybe this is good enough for me to try if this will work.
x
When do you think you will be able to do your livestream on how to "minimize" your smartphone to be like the ghost phone. I want to do this with my unihurtz titan pocket.
Great list Jose. I have an Emporia Touchsmart which has what i need. i.e. whatsapp, basic browser and decentish camera. but would be great if it had maps to. the downsides is that it lags sometimes, the battery isnt great and the stupid position of the camera lens. Apart from that its decent. touch screen is a big bonus to. You should try and get it to review Jose?
I'll look for it!
Accessibility to Signal with the Punkt MP02 is actually huge. Would a phone like the Light Phone 2 be able to utilize an app like that in the future? Is that possible with e-ink devices? I've been angling towards buying the LP2 based on my own research and your helpful videos but staying connected to certain people through Signal is enticing.
Light phone would like to support Signal, but its not something that they can do at the moment without the support from the Signal foundation. They are hoping to eventually support it, but it's hard without collaboration
@@JoseBriones heard. The Light Phone is already kinda perfect but Signal is a great app for organizing and staying in touch with multiple people at once.
Does TCL Flip 2 support LTE Bands 3,7, 20 ? THanks
I'm still happy using the sonim flip phone the knock off nextel without a camera, I'm using on TMobile, if I really need to look something up I'll bug mi esposa or wait till I get home to use my laptop or tablet.
Hi Jose! Any plans on trying out the Dumb Wireless Unpluq Phone in the near future? Love your content and books man, keep up the great work!
Yep. I'll have one soon!
If it has apps and a web browser, IT IS NOT A DUMBPHONE!
If you say so I guess. Dumbphones of old had browsers and apps, so Idk.
@@JoseBriones Smartphone: noun -
a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps.
Yep my experience of dumb phones back in the day is you can call, you can text, it has a contacts list, and maybe a couple of simple games. That’s all.
Right Sas , Jose doesn’t know what he’s talking about
Thank you for this video!
Unihertz released a new model of the Jelly called Jelly Star. Cool colorful design with LED.
i am using my old iphone 4s as my dumbphone. since it doesn't have any updates and can't download any apps anymore. still great for basic calling and texting. battery can still last up to 2 days since i am not connecting it to wifi or mobile data. and i love it.
You can play old games on it too.
More importantly, the camera is still better than on a dumbphone.
i have an blackberry passport for that!
@@adamkane7513 sadly, no compatible apps or games anymore to download. But it doesn't matter since i am just using it as a dumbphone. And yeah, the camera is the best part of it.
yeah i miss my old 4s that i broke 😂 battery was drained really fast tho
@@tommyvercetti2424 my battery is still great.. i just have problem on my charging cable, hard to find anymore, but the charging port is still great.
Actually ordered 903kc yesterday. It seems really good! I can't just buy garbage and deal with it anymore since phones are unfortunately a necessity. Can't wait to try it out!
not a necessity mate , maybe a privellage
@@BEL1EVE1T0RN0T You must be either living in 90s or in Chad
I'm intrigued by the Jelly because I wish there were smaller smartphones to choose from! It does look like it might be too outdated for me to justify, though.
A good & helpful review. I'm looking for one feature which seems to be missing in almost all the phones you've described EXCEPT the $329 Sunbeam F-1 Pro. The feature is talk to text (a phone that takes dictation (not typing) to respond to text messages. I don't care for most, even all, of the features, including UA-cam and the like. What would recommend in the sub $200 category? Thanks.
That feature is hard to find under $200. I recommend you look into the CAT S22 as that may be your only option.
Really hope Nokia 2780 will come to Malaysia, and the CAT S22 , in Malaysia really hard to get those phone as well.
Hello! What dumbphones do you recommend under $100
I can't consider Jelly 2 as a dumb phone but more of a niche android phone (and it's actually powerful, from battery to performance). It really just happens to have a very small screen, thus it being a niche thing to own. Hopefully you get your hand with Mive Style Folder (korean phone), its a flip but as good as Jelly 2 (runs in Android 11).
Yes but is more versatile, for every day use
@@ArcamNightbattery is rubbish... android 11 really !
What’s Doro comparability like in the US? I’ve heard that they have some more compact models which intrigues me.
I don't recommend it. You won't have reliable coverage at all.
so the Nokia 2780 is not suited or usable in the Netherlands? LP2 has a bad battery I constantly hear. I would like a small phone with non google OS, sd card and podcast and hotspot capability. Does this exist?
Glad to see the F30 get a mention. mine should be here in within the next 2 days!
Did you get your F30 yet? Prob should've just let your grey mp02 order stand since you would've had a superior device on hand already, but whatever....
@@tpfr247 ended up not working for me here in Canada so I got a light phone 2, gets here tomorrow
Guys, I really need help here. I need a transition phone that can do whatsapp call, send document, and also edit document. Will xiaomi qin enough for this?
Any experience with the Doro 7080? Its basically an upgrade of the 7030! Would love to hear your thoughts.
It will be faster and "better" than the 7030 but same functionality.
I want a dumb phone to use regularly for calls and text. My only reason for doing this is that I want an extremely low radiation cell phone. You haven't really addressed radiation here. If the phone doesn't have internet access then can you expect the EMF radiation to be very low? I have found that SAR ratings are useless. Thanks!.
i took the alcatel 3082 because it's the only flip phone without the sos button on the back for seniors.
My wife and I are up in age and we use laptops for medical, email, youtube , movies , etc. When we are out of the home, we just need to talk to each other, or emergency services, that is all. I have come to the conclusion that all we need are prepaid "burner' phone plans and reliable flip phones. Seems fast, reliable and low cost. Am I correct ? Can you help ? Subbed and shared.
You are correct. Pick an inexpensive device and plan and you should be good to go
If I remember correctly, you mentioned that the *"Kyocera Dura XV Extreme Plus"* can be unlocked to work on the T-Mobile (GSM) Network?
Is this correct?
Yes. However, hotspot won't work.
As someone who needs the hotspot for work the Punkt looks really nice.
Hi, great video. Could you please list what ones work with Uber, thats the only app I need
CAT S22 and Xiaomi F series
Are there any dumbphones that can connect to a Garmin GPS so that you can use GPS and avoid traffic without a smartphone?
Cheers from Israel ! After the f21 pro I got the jelly that is very convenient for me. The new jelly is on the road and seems pretty goood btw
היי, איך היה השימוש בווצאפ בעברית בשיאומי?

I need a flip phone that I can connect to T mobile that has unlimited talk, unlimited text, and hot spot, any help or guidance you can give?
Nice to see someone giving some love to flip phones. Kindly recommend a 4g LTE flip for use in India.
CAT S22 Flip if you want apps. Nokia 2660 if you want simple
Is the livestream to minimize your smartphone yourself out?
I am looking for a basic phone. Any price range and good build quality. I need only WhatsApp, any kind of navigation, email and a decent camera.
What would be the best phone for me?
Which one would you guys recommend for someone looking for a dumbphone with whatsapp availability and also maps. Google maps would be preferable but not a must and price isnt a problem as long as its a good product
If price isn’t a problem then you definitely want an Apple Watch cellular. It has Citymapper and Apple Maps with pretty good gps and directions
7:59 I’m guessing that’s the same Cat or Caterpillar company that makes the construction trucks
Can you get an unlimited talk/text plan with one of the flip phones (Nokia 2760/TCL Flip 2)? Tracfone seems to only have the per minute options. Thanks!!
Yes. You can! Check in depth the tracfone options. They have unlimited plans.
Do you know if the Kyocera 701KC would work in the US with T Mobile?
Some people have gotten it to work.
My dumbphones are nokia e9 and sony cybershot c905, wow it picture qaulity rivals most smartphones ive had, things really were better back then, the e9 build qaulity is also unreal
I have not seen the video but it would be great that some of these phones allow installation of a few important apps like mobility or messaging.
Watch the video. There are phones in this list that can do that.
Great list! Weird question, where did you get your frames? They're awesome
Warby Parker :)
@@JoseBrioneshey thanks! Just started looking to de-tech my life a little and found your channel.
How can you make the Cat S22 work for Verizon?
Have you had any issues with the sunbeam f1 phone battery completely dying? I bought mine in June 2022 and today it shut down out of nowhere and when I turned it back on it was at 1%. I think this happened last night too.
Not on my Orchid. But I’ve heard of people that have had issues. Try to get a replacement battery from them if you continue experiencing issues.
Hey Jose i NEED YOUR HELP. I have been looking for days a flip phone that supports whatsapp and works with AT&T, I bought the Nokia 2720, sadly it does not work with AT&T (That i know of). Could you please point me in the right direction, I just need a flip phone with GPS, Hotspot, Wi-Fi and WHATSAPP, I have been looking at the TCL you mentioned and also the AT&T Cingular Flip IV, which one would you recommen or which other flip phone I should be aware of. Thanks
AT&T is not a friendly company for dumbphones. The only thing that comes to mind is the Kyocera Dura XE. However, you'd have to install apps and it's not easy to work with. The other option is the AT&T my flip (the original one). That one should have Whatsapp and hotspot. Again, AT&T is not a very helpful company for dumbphones.
I'd love to have a Light Phone but sadly they don't work in Canada.
Thank you so much, your videos has help me so much. I just got the s22 but it’s so heavy for me it may be cuz I’m a girl idk. I just came back to look for other options and this came just in time :)
Can I download telegram app and what’s app on the 903 KC?
Yes. You can download those apps on the 903KC, There is no touchscreen, but you can use it with a virtual mouse.
@@JoseBrionesthank you for the info, is this virtual mouse an app I have to download or does it come with it?
To clarify on the ghostphone, you can KIND OF do the same thing on your own. Most of the simple apps that come on the phone seem to be things they specifically developed though. It's hard to find good alternatives
if u have an android that u can unlock the bootloader with then u can pretty much make the ghostphone urself by adding a custom rom
How about a cell phone that you can only talk on? A lot of Senior Citizens that I know don't use any of the stuff on pricey smart phones, and would just like a "phone". Do they still make anything like this or do we need to pick from one of the ones you showed in this video?
You can use a Nokia 2760 or a TCL Flip phone
I want to have Light phone but it is not available outside of the US
Still mid-video so I'm not sure if you found any, but if I'm being honest, my ideal flip phone/dumb phone would be extremely basic. Just calling, texting, email, 4G data and uploading custom notification sounds to it. That's all I'd really need in a flip phone, especially considering I'm planning on downgrading a lot of my stuff just to simplify my life. Why do I need a full-fledged computer in my pocket when I have a perfectly good (and beefy) gaming rig as it is, you know? I don't need social media on the go, and if I want music on the go, well that's why I'm gonna start a cassette collection again :p
You need to look at the new Sunbeam F1 pro lineup. They have multiple models varying from talk only, up to a full featured phone.
The phones at the last part of the video may be up your ally then
the lightphone seems a tad too small, or at least the screen is.
Regardless, how does that work with apps like DHL, which is a very useful app to fetch delivery from a packbox, or a train ticket app. Do you never use any of these app, like uber etc?
I'd love a minimalistic phone without the bloat, which i consider stock android as well, especially since android only gotten worse is the "smart" objective (Around Android 5 is was already great OS), but it seems there is no middle ground. Either you get bloat or literally only a phone.
I don't use those apps. I just use web versions via laptops. For Uber, I call them with their new phone service or plan ahead with the web browser.
I miss my pantech slate. The perfectly thin, light messaging phone that was perfect for talk, text and emails without all the other nonsense
Does anyone have an idea where I can get a new battery for my Xiaomi F21 pro? Mine isn't that good anymore...
They are not user replaceable. You'll have to buy a new phone altogether sadly.
i think you should review the doogee smini.
What are the major issues of CAT s22 that you ve confirmed?
TY
Mainly some hardware issues with the keyboard. However, if you use voice to text and keyboard for typing only sometimes, you'll be fine.
Do the kyocera phones have capabilities for uber? that's one of the things holding me back from getting a dumbphone
Any phone can use the new call uber functionality. You call their toll free number and order an Uber like you order a cab.
I like the Xiamio F21 Pro. I am only missing the DUALSIM and the Wifi-Hotspot feature.
Keep up the good work, Greetings from Sweden.
Also glad to see Mudita Pure off the list, they need to get there act together!
For sure, but you missed out on the mp02 big time. BB classic is also my favorite device of all time too.
Hello, is it possible to restore backed up contacts from google in the xiaomi Qin p21 pro ???
You should be able to
I was waiting for this review to come out for a long time. Very informative.
I'm looking for a phone for my young kids that can have youtube deleted. Do you think that is possible with this phone? Basically , I want to block all data that can connect to the internet to keep the phone as safe as possible for my little kids
You can do this with android devices. You can search how to remove UA-cam with ADB and all android phones can do that.
Hello.
Can i install Google Chrome on kaios Phone? I have a maxcom mk218. Do you know how can i install Google Chrome in my Phone?
Thank you very much.
You cannot install Chrome on KaiOS
Which model supports Spotify?
Hello,so i am joining the army in my country and modern smartphones are forbidden so i am looking for a Dumbphone without camera and touchscreen that has 4g or 3g and has apps like facebook,do you have anything to recommend?
Xioami f22. Not the f22pro
also whats the difference between the extreme and extreme+?
One is newer that's about it
do you know one small dumbphone with NFC ? thank's :) (more simple than the Jelly :) )
my lightphone II hasn't even hit a year and the phone it's self seems to be dying.
are there ANY qwerty keyboard phones we can use today?? I miss my old sidekick sm but because they shut down the 3g networks in 2022 I haven't been able to find andything close that can work with 4g
Nope
I think, it is blackberry key2 or keyone, or unihertz pocket slim or titan
does anyone make a slide phone anymore? want to ditch social media but want to be able to have a full keyboard to text with still
Hitphone K1 is the only one. It’s not that good and they are slowly discontinuing it.
Any of the KaiOS options support WhatsApp audio calling?
Not really.
In 2022 you put the blu tank flip and the cat s22 flip, but I see that this year you repeated the cat s22 flip but not the blu tank flip. Don't you consider it a good phone?
It's not as much of a value in 2023 anymore
Asking for advice!
Is there a phone that allows apps but won’t allow FB and UA-cam?
Those are my addictions. I need a browser and 😮other apps I have now. Just need to make UA-cam and FB impossible to access.
Please any advice appreciated.
Try something like the Ghostphone or Dumbwireless Unpluq Phone
does the phones that work in the US also work in Canada?
Punkt and maybe Light Phone 2
I'm struggling to find dumb phones that work on Rogers in Canada.
Light phone 2 works on Virgin mobile, public mobile, and Koodo in the greater toronto area..does not work on Fido owned by rogers
my only like in all dumbphone is F22 pro.. just because its only an android phone touchscreen with keypad..and just like feature phone..the chipset is the most powerful on all dumbphone you mention on this video..that can do android multitasking and a advanced feature keypad phone.. all youve already mention on your list cannot do as,much as f22 pro in terms of performance and multitasking
