  • Showing off my 1/350 U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 model, as seen in the re-mastered version of the classic series, and I explain why I did a few things the way I did, and how to get the motors that come with the Round 2 lighting kit to run slower & quieter.

    That is a thing of beauty! NCC-1701 was always my favorite ship. Great job!

    I really like that you slowed the cages down. Not only are they quieter but the motors will last longer.

      Yeah they will. I should have mentioned that in my commentary.

    Finally someone who also wishes to see the Connie with lit nacelles! I really wish they would have pulled the trigger on that for the remastered shots.They look amazing!

    I love the way you painted your nacelles, perfect! but the weathering especially on the saucer is too much - but over all Good Job!

      +larry crandall In the remastered effects, she did look pretty dirty.

    looks great, looks different from most i have seen ,warp blue grills look good,wish they had incorperated that effect in the original modell,though the original is always going to be the best. i like the slow run motors , i run mine at 1,5 volts as i mofified my model its the 1/600 with added motors,mine are not that noisy considering some one had the same motors and they sounded awfull ,impulse engines lit ,amber lighting and flickering colours, with some none stock stuff used that was in the kit , like the inner domes,its a good job here with adifference ,individual to the usual ihave seen , thank you john:)

      John Felstead Since I made this video, I eliminated the blue glowing bussards, and went with the on-screen look in the remastered episodes for the ship.

    I totally agree with the orientation of your bridge. It should always be strait on. With the artistry and symmetry of the1 ship inside and out it makes no sence that the designer would rotate the bridge just to accommodate a bump on the back. That turbo lift can go sideways. Why cant it slide over to the position it opes to on the bridge? I also like the aztec on the panels and lighting the nacells gives it life. Great work.

      @ThomasEJohnson  9 років тому

      SovsBorg I just accept it as a production design error and pretend there is room in the bridge shell for the lift car to fit in.

    Beautiful model, is the coloring on the model how it comes out of the box, or did you have to do some painting?

    • @ThomasEJohnson
      @ThomasEJohnson  8 років тому

      +DrJBN Painted the model in post WW2 U.S. Navy Haze Grey, with a subtle paneling effect. That how Gene wanted her to look and what was created for the re-mastered effects.

    I bought this kit and it has yet to arrive in the mail but I cannot for the life of me find the lighting kit, I would love to have it for that little bit of extra realism. DO you know where I can get the lighting kit?

    • @ThomasEJohnson
      @ThomasEJohnson  8 років тому

      +TarlZaralka In my opinion the lighting kit is not worth the extra money. There are much better lighting materials and electronic effects boards available from HDA Modelworx and Tenacontrols than what you get in that lighting kit.

    So I may have missed it, but did you mention what the right speed was? I'm guessing perhaps 25-32 rpm? I tried calculating your bussards, but do to the angle of the shot, I lost track.

    • @ThomasEJohnson
      @ThomasEJohnson  10 років тому

      I'm not sure, maybe 50rpm. Hooking up the 3 3.6v LEDs in series does cut the voltage down to what is needed, without cutting the current to the motors down to the point where they won't run at all.

    VERY NICE WELL DONE.I WOULD LIKE TO BUILD A VERY LARGE ONE SOME DAY . HOW MUCH WAS YOUR KIT

    • @ThomasEJohnson
      @ThomasEJohnson  9 років тому

      noel oreilly They can run up to $300-$350 for the kit and materials depending how much you want to put into it.
