Sony is neither abandoning the PSVR2 nor pushing on it. You're right that decisions about VR support for Astrobot would have been made long before now. However, I think that's likely to mean they may have started VR support for it and then cancelled it sometime back. Sony's VR initiative has been and continues to be cautious and tentative. They appear to be just reacting to whatever results they get in sales. If it starts taking off, they'll put more into it. If not, they'll put less. And that includes forecasting. I think Sony was aware that the PSVR2 was arriving at an awkward moment where the industry was moving to pancake lenses, and they were showing up with old fresnel. They likely knew their hardware wasn't going to be killer, so they just went for their soft launch approach. And it's been lukewarm like that through the whole run so far. You're right to point out the games and support Sony has, in fact, put out for the PSVR2, but at the same time I think it's fairly obvious that this is measured, and Sony could be pushing a lot harder if they wanted to. People want to say either Sony is fully behind it or Sony is abandoning it completely. But in reality, Sony has an analog dial that they're adjusting up and down. They're clearly not looking to lead the charge, but they're also not leaving either. They're waiting for the right time and right conditions before they will push with one of PSVR2's successors. In the meantime, PSVR2 is keeping it warm, building up their VR game library and experience, and preparing the way.
That the issue, they pack in all these features, and no pancake lenses. They could have went with led and improved the motion clarity as well. Psvr2 is an afterthought now, they should release an updated version because I don't think theres going to be a psvr3 for awhile. Well, I'm tired about psvr2 discussion. Too hyped up and nothing to show for it.
Just bought my PSVR2 this week. Got a full year of Netflix premium. And $100 off the headset. Plus June 2024 ps plus gave me many games. I’m set. Not going to lie. I was considering returning it because it gave me bad motion sickness for 3 days. But after a week. I’m able to handle 1 hr sessions.
There are so many great PSVR1 games that need to be ported over. Astrobot, Iron Man, Blood and Truth, and many others. I’m disappointed as I bought my PSVR2 day one, and lack of true Sony game support is non existent
I appreciate your perspective and in many ways agree with your ideas about comparing PSVR1 and PSVR2 development stages. Also it's worth noting that I own or owned about 10 different headsets at different times from PSVR1/2 to Steam sets like HP Reverb G2, Varjo Aero and most recently Meta Quest 3. So yes, I have a problem but I also am a big supporter of VR and Sony. Tbh I bought the PS5 bc I gambled that there would eventually be a PSVR2 and was so happy when it was finally announced. Unfortunately I feel like they missed an opportunity when they didn't support older PSVR1 games, some which are irreplaceable, Squadrons (no longer supported), Firewall (studio shut down and sequal was not the same), Astrobot (no planned VR sequal), Everything's Golf (sequal now a meta exclusive), Ace Combat (???) Astrobot news was a huge blow for anyone who purchased the headset. I get that financially, it might not have been worth it to Sony, but them alluding to that tells a lot of us and those on the fence that PSVR2 might not be financially worth it. It's kind of like buying Nintendo products and hearing no Mario games or Zelda games will be developed, how could I take it seriously? No one else is going to make Mario or Zelda games for other platforms so we'd be stuck. Had they allowed for a way to play PSVR1 games, at least we could say we have Astrobot 1 or Farpoint or the old Firewall and a Golf game to play. Just my opinion. To be fair, I didn't return my bc I love playing GT7 but I don't play it more than SteamVR or Meta Quest 3.
You expect Sony to pay for upgrades? It's not even up to them for games they don't own, it's up to developers to upgrade to the new camera setup. Sony is moving forward. Buy pSVR 1 & hook it to your Ps5. Instant library. Alien, Metro, Behemoth & Zombie Army are hitting vr 2 this year. That sounds like life to me
I think psvr2 is coming along nicely. Big games with nice stories. By the time 5 years comes to pass the library will be amazing. The slow and steady game. They have made an amazing bit of kit and devs are putting some bangers on it. I play mine every day and it takes me into some magical worlds. Thank you for your always positive outlook on psvr2
Will prob get abouy 4 or 5 years amazing years out of it. Gt7, res 8, cotm and res4 worth the price alone completed all of tthem multiple times ( apart from gt7 but 100 plus hours in) best console i ever owned.
Looks like Death Relives is coming, may be a PSVR2 exclusive. It's releasing on PS4/PS5 and their tweet yesterday referred to themselves as a "Playstation Partner" studio. Trailer looks 🔥 Edit: Not so sure it's exclusive. One of their tweets does say oculus, but nothing further.
There are so many amazing games on pc vr that so many people want to play. I get that some titles don’t want to make their games accessible to the psvr like rec room for example. Their limiting the potential of the PSVR2 just from the limited amount of games that they offer. I would play al the time if they added even a few popular games such as: 1. Bone labs 2. Gorilla tag 3. Vrchat 4. Ghost of tabor (they will add it later in 2024) 5. Half life: Alyx 6. Rec room (The creators of rec room don’t know if it’s worth it to allow psvr2 players to play, due to the small amount of psvr2 players) But just these games will bring a lot of people to using the PSVR2. But to be honest I think it’s better to buy the meta quest 3, you can a lot more games without a PC.
Sony had the option to tell us at any point in the last 5 years that they had no plans for a VR Astro Bot in the near future. Instead they let us speculate constantly and then dropped this news on us. I think there was a middle ground they could have struck between keeping their cards close to their chest and revealing everything, and considering everyone knew another Astro was coming it would have been nice if they'd managed our expectations a bit more e.g. "We have no first party games in the pipeling for PSVR2 in 2024."
At this point, I think it's likely you could drop the "in 2024" from the end of that statement 😢 Sony's communication around PSVR 2 has been worse than abysmal from the start. It's really no big wonder why it hasn't sold better. It makes me sad to think back to PSVR 2's launch when the mainstream press was saying it'd be the next Vita. Flash forward to today and I WISH it was supported as well as the Vita. Sony developed/published 35 physically released games for the Vita including big franchises like Uncharted, God of War, and Wipeout, and they kept manufacturing it for 9 years. Doesn't seem likely the PSVR 2 will ever get that much support, and that's a huge bummer.

Sorry to burst your bubble. I love my psvr2 but sony is giving very poor support on its headset. Astrobots 2 not being in vr says it all. Sony has all but abandoned the headset. 3rd parties are keeping it on oxegen.
I'm still very optimistic about a VR mode for this title. If anything (for example) when GT7 was announced, they did not announce the VR component until it was closer to its release date, so it would be more of a marketing strategy from Sony's angle. Astro Bot is nowhere near as popular as Mario/Luigi and Sonic the Hedgehog in terms of being a mascot in my opinion as they have just solely relied on popular franchises to carry the generations of consoles throughout the decades. If Astro Bot had more of a presence in other games similar to what Nintendo does with Mario with multiple titles yearly, then they should have remastered the original Astro Bot for the PSVR2 also.
I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Astro Bot in VR. I just think hybrid didn't work out because in this case it there would have been too much tradeoff for the flat game mechanics and they wanted to maximize their success for this broader PS5 market first. Makes sense for them business wise to prioritize the regular PS5 crowd because of all the love they got for Playroom and the potential revenue there. Maybe they thought adding hybrid wouldn't have done Astro VR justice. After all what kind of Astro VR game would it be if they didn't fully integrate the VR controllers somehow with full VR AF interactions? Team Asobi seem to be perfectionists with how they implement their tech. To do it right there would need to be 2 different games. On that note, who says they can't make another game for VR? Especially if they make mad bank with the flat version. There's still hope for an Astro VR independent of this release. Similar to how Skyrim VR is a separate game altogether, they could make Astro Bot VR using the same assets and levels but making it work better for VR.
Just a minor correction, Jammy: You list Astrobot's two appearances on PSVR1 as Astro's Playroom and Rescue Mission. Astro's Playroom was, of course, a flat game only on PS5. You meant to say The Playroom VR, which had a mini-game entitled 'Robot Rescue', a short precursor for what would eventually be developed into Astrobot: Rescue Mission.
For now, I'd much rather have a massive astrobot game that might get VR support later than a small sequel to rescue mission that not many will buy. Can't wait to play the new astrobot game in September and hope it sells really well and we see VR support later and hopefully we see a rescue mission sequel later! We will see.
I'm good with the amount of VR games. I've got plenty to play. A really nice variety of games have been released. There's GT7 & No Man's Sky that are basically games that can be played forever. I feel that indie developers are killing it more than Sony.
The problem is simple: Meta Quest is outdoing Sony across the board with VR and augmented reality games/apps, video/3D apps, easy PC wireless connection, productivity tools, and more and more. Sony can't keep up without a killer apps as good as or superior than HL Alyx, and that is NOT going to happen. Plus, their focus on live services has been a mess, as seen with their mishandling of FW Ultra and COTM.
It's anecdotal evidence, but I've noticed the majority of posts crapping on PSVR2 on Twitter, are from anti-Sony/Xbox stan accounts. These kinds of posts remind me why I don't use Twitter much anymore.
Considering UEVR easily converts games to VR how much would it realistically take sony to lol I think it's not really a financial decision just a decision not to especially for a game like astro where it's just a camera following a character.
The PSVR2 has got enough games to keep me going for a couple of years, i wish they'd slow down on the releases, i cant keep up, im still half way through Genotype, some people just got too much time on their hands.
Yea no one wants ugly, tech demos, unfinished shovel wear or games they can play on cheaper better heaðsets.most of these games you speak of are all crap. I have the headset also and it's completely garbage, even with the pc adaptor it's going to make the headset beyond mid, no more support of foviated rendering. Haptics will be missing, not to mention the lenses and sweet spot suck so bad and is so uncomfortable This headset is dead.
Without data, its impossible to draw conclusions about PSVR2's health -- impossible. What _can_ be seen are releases (which are healthy at the moment) and *marketing.* I believe people are drawing conclusions based the level of communication from Sony. Nothing more.
@@stefandinu6389 But what does selling" mean? What are the expectations of Sony? What about its public shareholders? What about it's brand or trajectory? To illustrate by way of example: Sony's PS4 game "Days Gone" sold ~8M units, and was deemed a failure by corporation, fans, and media alike and was promptly cancelled. Astro Bot's Rescue Mission is estimated to have sold ~0.8M units (vgchartz) and was deemed a monumental success, enough so to spawn a mainline pack-in leading to full sequel. Context matters. Meta historically has been losing $4B per QUARTER, but the losses are successfully positioned as "investment," (but definitely include manufacturing, distribution, marketing, etc). I don't think the market would tolerate the same messaging coming out of Sony. Again, without context IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to draw conclusions.
@@stefandinu6389 It's not that easy. What are Sony's expectations? How many sales do they deem "acceptable"? What are PSVR2 revenue effect on the whole? How will shareholders respond to any announcements? What is their time horizon for market penetration? Have they funded games in production or have come to market? Meta's VR efforts have been losing ~$4B per QUARTER, positioned as "investment." Could Sony tolerate the same messaging? Day's Gone sold 8M units on PS4 and was a FAILURE. Astro Bot moved 0.8M on PSVR and was a monumental success. Context matters, without which is is impossible to tell -- especially lacking data.
It's eminently possible to gauge through multiplayer lobbies, view counts on UA-cam videos, and the amount of media coverage in the mainstream gaming press(if the demand was there, there would be a lot more PSVR2 game reviews and articles). But the key metric is sales. Legendary Tales was the top downloaded VR exclusive on the Sony store in February, but still the studio hadn't turned a profit according to the studio head. cyubeVR sold less than 12,000 copies in its launch month despite being the top downloaded VR exclusive in March on PSN.
Support?... as soon as they launched PSVR2 they left the product out in the cold. They have not supported it at, no advertising, no more talk of flat to VR,, and the PC link is a last ditch effort to sell off the hardware... it's like the had give up before they even gave it a chance. It's a shame because the hardware is really good. But rigth now meta is carrying the VR industry alone on their back.
I bought my PS5 only for Horizon and God of War. If Sony brings two more AAA VR games like GT 7, I definitely am going to buy VR2. Sadly, There is GT7 so far that is attractive to me. Not worth it.
Yes, 100% yes! Focus on players enjoying things that you do, and ignore the ones telling you not too because you're don't share their perspectives. It's ok and natural, to have preferences. But it's NOT ok to be gaslit into second-guessing a personal preference because you don't happen to share another's preferences. This is all to common in gaming, but especially with VR and PSVR2 specifically. This isn't just wrong, it's narcissistic behaviour, and an extremely unhealthy influence -- I suggest that anybody unsubscribe or block these sources of information.
That last point is the most important. True crabs in a bucket mentality. People that play flat games don’t give a fuck what kind of games, or lack thereof, is on VR. But I’m sure they are laughing at the super small community arguing about why their 3 and half hour game is better than the other person’s. The community is still too small to be doing all the nonsense that console has been doing for generations. The audience, games, and history just isn’t there for us to be having “headset wars”. Any W for VR in this stage is a W for us all and that’s why I choose not to participate in those goofy debates and just focus on what we are getting and spreading the joy of it to whoever will listen
The point of view is identical to the PSVR1 so, it wouldn’t surprise me if Astrobot PSVR2 is a demo for PS5 Pro. I’m not assuming that’s the case, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Behemoth, Aliens and Death Relive are top of Class VR games most likely getting significant resources from Sony.
😂 sony already said go play vr elsewhere not on ps5 when they wrote go play fallout 4 vr and half life alyx on pc because you ain't getting it on ps5 😂😂 so i believe yes Sony doesn't care about psvr2
2:05 Dont agree. Psvr1 released 2016 and was basically dead in 2020 with the launch of the ps5. Thats just 4 years of support. Quest 2 will be supported ~4 years as well. Skyrim on psvr came a year after launch.
I wonder if this game development was going on before developers knew there was even going to be a p's vr2, LOL Sony right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing, terrible in company communication and leadership.
Skyrim came 13 months into PSVR 1's lifespan, it wasn't that long of a wait. As for other notable games early in its lifespan, Rush of Blood was a launch game, RE7 came out 3 months in, Farpoint was released 7 months in, and Wipeout got its PSVR patch 17 months in (the equivalent of next month in the PSVR 2 lifespan). And there were other less notable first-party games in that time, like VR Worlds, RIGS, and Driveclub. Sorry man, this just comes across as a lot of cope. There's no indication Sony is working on anything for PSVR 2, and every indication that they're not. Yes games take longer to make, but if Sony were making PSVR 2 games, they would've been in development years before the hardware launched. Sony already did this with Horizon Call of the Mountain. PSVR 2 would've been well into the prototype phase when Astro Bot started development. They absolutely could've made it hybrid. For context, Rescue mission took 18 months to make for a team of 25 people. Also if Sony gave any shits about PSVR 2, they could've done what Capcom did with RE4 Remake: Announce it for flat, and have a little image at the end saying "VR content also in development." I'm not saying they've abandoned the hardware entirely, but I don't think there's any evidence they're developing anything for it in-house. Astro Bot would've been the easiest and best opportunity for a hybrid game, and they passed on the chance. I think the best we can hope for is that Sony keeps on paying third-parties to port their games to PSVR 2, but I'm skeptical even that'll continue past this year.
Psvr 2 is awful. I love Sony and had the psvr 2 on launch day. Apart from a couple of games, it was a huge letdown. So much so that I sold mine recently. When it comes to VR, Meta at the ones who know how to market and push VR. The quest 3 standalone is great. So many games to choose from, and it even better with a VR ready pc.
This is the kind of platform fanboyism that is killing VR as a medium. You think you are convincing people that PS has no games and Metaquest has all these games....but anyone who is actually interested in VR is gonna look at the libraries for both and see that the overwhelming majority of games that are worth playing are on both. Your platform warring backfires because now the same games you are saying are trash on PSVR2 are the games you are trying to pass off as "great games" on Metaquest. There are very very few platform exclusives in the VR space....so when you are critical of one platform for VR you are in effect being critical for all other platforms. What's crazy is that if you are as fortunate as I am to have a PS5/PSVR2 and a powerful PC and both Metaquest 2 and 3 headsets...you know that the the PC VR and PSVR2 versions of most of these games are vastly superior to the dedicated Metaquest version because both PC and PSVR2 are using much more powerful hardware for processing than what will ever be in the Metaquest. Not saying that the Metaquest is bad...but we know that games have to be cut back significantly to work well on the Metaquest headsets and they are not on PC and PSVR2. Or at least not always cutback

I Love my PSVR2 😁😎

yeah its SHITyour happpy whit this ?? what a looser
Just bought my PSVR2 this week. Got a full year of Netflix premium. And $100 off the headset. Plus June 2024 ps plus gave me many games. I’m set.
Not going to lie. I was considering returning it because it gave me bad motion sickness for 3 days. But after a week. I’m able to handle 1 hr sessions.
motion sickness will get better! just remember to take breaks when ya feel it :)
There are so many great PSVR1 games that need to be ported over. Astrobot, Iron Man, Blood and Truth, and many others. I’m disappointed as I bought my PSVR2 day one, and lack of true Sony game support is non existent
Ok so there's the confirmation i needed. They answered officially in a Q&A on the website?
Then ok. No more pointless hoping
Unfortunately I feel like they missed an opportunity when they didn't support older PSVR1 games, some which are irreplaceable, Squadrons (no longer supported), Firewall (studio shut down and sequal was not the same), Astrobot (no planned VR sequal), Everything's Golf (sequal now a meta exclusive), Ace Combat (???)
Astrobot news was a huge blow for anyone who purchased the headset.
Yeah I'm considering a 4tb HDD for the ps5 eventually
I think the PSVR2 is a brilliant bit of kit, and I true love my headset.
I only haven't upgraded from psvr 1 because inflation has destroyed my income. I simply can't justify the cost.
I prefer the focus on the positive coverage your channel normal does. I want to see game reviews, upcoming game previews, etc.
Trailer looks 🔥
Edit: Not so sure it's exclusive.
I would play al the time if they added even a few popular games such as:
1. Bone labs
2. Gorilla tag
3. Vrchat
4. Ghost of tabor (they will add it later in 2024)
5. Half life: Alyx
6. Rec room (The creators of rec room don’t know if it’s worth it to allow psvr2 players to play, due to the small amount of psvr2 players)
But just these games will bring a lot of people to using the PSVR2.
At this point, I think it's likely you could drop the "in 2024" from the end of that statement 😢
Sony's communication around PSVR 2 has been worse than abysmal from the start.

@@minners71 I like my way better
Well said.. i am for all vr to gain momentum
I love my psvr2. I've bought so many games that i haven’t even got around to playing them all yet!
Just a minor correction, Jammy:
You list Astrobot's two appearances on PSVR1 as Astro's Playroom and Rescue Mission.
They should give us a descent spacesim ... 🤷🏻♂️
Any news on the sense controllers being sold separately ?
bring on that adapter. great video.
220+ games already, can’t wait for the next year
Thanks for the great content, I really appreciate it!

These kinds of posts remind me why I don't use Twitter much anymore.

Bye astro it was a sweet ride
Considering UEVR easily converts games to VR how much would it realistically take sony to lol I think it's not really a financial decision just a decision not to especially for a game like astro where it's just a camera following a character.
The PSVR2 has got enough games to keep me going for a couple of years, i wish they'd slow down on the releases, i cant keep up, im still half way through Genotype, some people just got too much time on their hands.
Or some people expect actual good games to play. Saw some gameplay for genotype and my hard earned cash isn't touching that.
Without data, its impossible to draw conclusions about PSVR2's health -- impossible. What _can_ be seen are releases (which are healthy at the moment) and *marketing.*
I believe people are drawing conclusions based the level of communication from Sony. Nothing more.
If the headset was selling well we'd have plenty of data I assure you.
@@stefandinu6389 But what does
selling" mean?
@@SeanLumly the fact that meta is willing to lose money and sony isn't just tells you wich company is better for vr.
Is there a thing as too much information? If we don't hear or see anything, then we start to worry.
Support?... as soon as they launched PSVR2 they left the product out in the cold.
Horizon call of the mountain remain the only aaa vr native and playstation esclusive game
Man I haven't used mine for months
Yes console wars don't interest me pc wars either

Yeah its nuts but the devs were hinting at sony being hard to work with or something like that wich is why they never bothered porting it on psvr2

Dont agree. Psvr1 released 2016 and was basically dead in 2020 with the launch of the ps5.
Thats just 4 years of support. Quest 2 will be supported ~4 years as well.
Skyrim on psvr came a year after launch.
I wonder if this game development was going on before developers knew there was even going to be a p's vr2, LOL
Sony right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing, terrible in company communication and leadership.
Also if Sony gave any shits about PSVR 2, they could've done what Capcom did with RE4 Remake: Announce it for flat, and have a little image at the end saying "VR content also in development."
I'm not saying they've abandoned the hardware entirely, but I don't think there's any evidence they're developing anything for it in-house. Astro Bot would've been the easiest and best opportunity for a hybrid game, and they passed on the chance. I think the best we can hope for is that Sony keeps on paying third-parties to port their games to PSVR 2, but I'm skeptical even that'll continue past this year.
Thanks for being the voice of reason. Everyone is losing their minds over here

Straight up. Hate my psvr2, absolutely ador my quest 3, it's honestly not even comparable really.
@corey_massey lol this whole comment sounds like your super horny over pc, and sony. Bro we have all that also. The fact of the matter is, psvr2 suck arse bro. Get over it even sony themselves know it lol. Pc vr play time is massive because of Meta, despite what you get off on you cant deny that fact. Unless you're a fan boy. Seems you are.
@@corey_massey the lenses are the biggest letdown, followed by the wired connection. Motion clarity is worse than quest3, its not in the same league of vr headset. That's why the pricetag of the psvr2 isn't worth it. The psvr2 is weak sauce on PC too. Seems like even ps5 owners dislike it, how many even still play on it. Sony is behind in everyway on the tech.
@@corey_massey Exactly. The question is this: why are Quest fans on a PSVR2 channel posting for the sole purpose of denigrating the platform and gaslighting users into thinking they've done something wrong by owning it?
This console war stuff is pathological.
