Thank you for sharing your medical billing journey with us., So in my case, I’ve worked as a medical receptionist for the longest time, but I noticed that I was not getting anywhere. I always heard of mutual coworkers who did medical billing and I always had the interest to go that rout but I was never given the opportunity until know. I was able to get a job in a professional billing office for a hospital and I’m working in the Medicare denials department. I have now 6 months since I started and although I feel I’ve been able to catch up on things, there’s other where I’m not. I’m feeling frustrated with myself because I feel I’m not progressing quick enough, I can’t even meet the 40 claims per day goal. I’ve been told to not overthink or be to hard on myself, to use the different portals and resources but that hasn’t helped. Unfortunately, I don’t have much of the support I would like within the company, I don’t want to give up, but I don’t know what else to do. I would love some advice or resources to help me in my medical billing journey.

Good that u started yourself, people have Preety bad experience in outsourcing work, given to India, mostly people try to woo u for fake work , have myself faced a lot giving and outsourcing work to India in medial billing . May god bless u and hope u come out stronger

Seeing this video made me cry. I've been wanting to start my own billing company not know where to start and having the funds to do so, I wish I could go back to doing what I love. As a medical biller for 6 years learning the field while being a medical assistant. But I enjoyed collecting and rebilling on claims never felt like I went to work because I loved what I did everyday. I would love to go back to doing what I love.
There are so many opportunities! If you have experience you don’t need any money to start. You can be an independent contractor. So what’s stopping you?

I'm so glad I came across this video. I've subscribed to your channel and am excited to watch them. I used to work on Medicare and Advantage Plan corrected claims and appeals and found I enjoyed trying to figure out what the coding issues were and was thrilled when I was able to figure them out (my supervisor would make the actual changes and appeals I'd submit them). I've looked into AAPC billing class and they recommend prerequisites in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Pathophysiology. Do you feel those are needed? It's an extra almost $1,000 for the course. I can find books on those subjects on Amazon for much much less.

Good luck!!! The CPC credential will definitely help you get a position managing the revenue cycle. There is a lot to learn so take it one day at a time. Thank you! The time frame will be different for everyone. It depends on how much time you have to dedicate to it. Some people are working and have families so it may take longer. But my online BILLING course, not coding, is prerecorded with lessons, training and masterclasses so you have access to all of the content upfront at the time of registration. We meet live for 6 weeks on Wednesday's at 8pm for Q&A, to review the homework assignments and for any additional training needed.

Hi Michellina. Years ago, before purchasing a computer we had to make note of the specs needed to be able to download the billing software. But now most softwares are cloud based. You can access them via the internet. So you can purchase any computer you prefer. It doesn't matter whether it's a desktop or laptop. And high speed internet is a must! Best of luck : )

Hello!!! I just have a quick question….Do a lot of companies offer a medical billing job opportunities in the evening? I have a full-time job as a pharmacy technician which I really do love but I was thinking of doing something in the evenings…..after 5pm. Thank you so much for your time!
Hi LaTonya. Most duties can be performed at any time. For example, claims entry & submission, EOB review and payment posting, creating and sending statements. I have two little boys and sometimes I get my best and most productive work done at night and over the weekend. What needs to take place during business hours is making calls to patients and/or insurance companies. But that all depends on the provider/practice you are working for and the scope of work. I don't know of any companies hiring evening billers but you can find independent contractor positions and make your own schedule! Best of luck : )

Hey I became a certified medical biller back in February this year but I dont have the money to start my own business and all these medical groups that are hiring billers expect me to have 3 years experience so I'm at a loss and I could use some of your advice, thanks.
Hey! So you don't need money to start the business, you need experience! So just focus on that. Have you tried seeking out local medical billing companies? They are usually willing to train. Also, don't rule out employment agencies. They staff medical offices and facilities. If you can't find a medical billing position you will have to work your way into it by starting in entry level positions such as scheduling, registration, front desk, authorizations/referrals, etc. Best of luck to you!!

I am interested in becoming a medial biller and am planning on taking the course through the AAPC website (CPB) ,however do you think I will be able to work remotely right away I am interested in working remotely because I have 2 boys whom I care for at home and would like to continue to do so while working. I keep hearing if I am new with no experience chances are I wont be able to work remotely right away only if I work for an insurance company is this true? I also would love to work for an insurance company do you know of any or list of places where insurance companies hire to work remotely? and last but not least I noticed billing for dental related things or pratice pay more is there anywhere I can apply after being certified for dental billing remotely?
Hi! So it's not impossible but it will be a challenge. You may not have any paid experience but if you enroll in my billing and software training you will learn the fundamentals of medical billing AND how to do the job. You will be using real billing software in the training. To secure your first position or client, you need to be confident in what you learned and ace that interview! Some employers or insurance companies will hire and train you. Browse the employment websites DAILY and register with healthcare staffing agencies who will help connect you with opportunities at no charge. Yes, there are plenty of dental billing companies that hire remote billers.

Sometimes! It depends on the type of claim.

Hi I just finished medical billing and coding program know the school wants us to get ready to take the CBCS exam. What is the difference between the CBCS and the CPC and should I take the CPC instead?
Hi Natoya. I have not taken the CPC exam so I would suggest reviewing the AAPC website and compare the information provided there to the CBCS info you have. I do know the majority of coding positions request a CPC credential. Try to connect with coders who have those credentials to learn about the differences and which one lines up better with your goals. Facebook groups are a good way to network if you don't know anyone personally. Best of luck!

Hi Emily. I’ve been a biller for the last 15 years and don’t have my CPC. Billers are not required to do coding. But we do have to understand the codes and modifier usage. The CPC is not a requirement for billing. Is it a plus? YES. Do I plan on sitting for the exam? YES. If your ultimate goal is billing start with the CPB first. Do you have to be living in the states to be a biller? I currently live in Minnesota but plan on living in Africa soon.
That's one of the many benefits of working in this industry. You can work from anywhere in the world. Just take into account the time difference if you have to make phone calls to insurance payers and patients. Best of luck : )

What about the CBCS exam and certification through the NHA?
Hi Bershelle. The CBCS is an entry certification. That is actually the first certification I obtained over 10 years ago. But it doesn't compare to the AAPC CPB credential. Is that what you have?
