    Hi Victoria! Thank you so much for the tips in the video. I am taking AAPC's CPC course, but it is not instructor led, so I'm a little on my own as I work through the material. In addition to my AAPC text I also bought the Buck's text and workbook at your recommendation and I have been liking the textbook a bit better than my AAPC book! However, I'm getting a bit stuck on the guideline for sequelae I.B.10. I was wondering if you by any chance have a video on examples of all the different ways you could code for a sequelae. I watched your video on the guidelines but I didn't find that it got enough into the weeds for my understanding. I get so confused on these and not sure why. Thanks again!

      @@lenacordova3460 I did well, but I do have a background in healthcare and strong anatomy/medical terminology knowledge. But there was still a lot I had to learn of course! I definitely suggest finding a tutor because I don't think the AAPC course gives as much information for people that have little or no experience in healthcare as they should and they don't give enough examples of difficult/confusing things to code (like sequela). Wyzant and LinkedIn are great places to find coding tutors and their rates are usually pretty reasonable.

      It is possible to get a remote job with health records and billing/coding without medical experience, but it may require some effort and dedication on your part. Many healthcare organizations and medical billing companies are willing to hire remote employees who have obtained the necessary certifications and can demonstrate strong office/audit skills.
      Overall, while it may be challenging to find a remote job in the medical billing and coding field without prior medical experience, it is not impossible. By obtaining the necessary certifications and demonstrating a willingness to learn, you can increase your chances of finding a job in this field.

      Thank you for watching! If you sign up for Preppy, they typically provide their own resources, but it's always beneficial to have the coding books as a reference, especially for real-world applications. When it comes to the self-taught route, you can apply for the CBCS exam directly through the NHA (National Healthcareer Association) website. They have guidelines and steps to walk you through the application process. Make sure to fulfill all their eligibility requirements before applying!

I actually just did an interview with the VP of Products and Services at the AAPC and she spoke about how they're piloting the eBooks for exams and it seems we're moving in that direction -- just not there quite yet. Preppy does offer you the option to purchase the paper books for examination purposes since we're still transitioning over the adoption of digital tools in the industry. If you have any further questions or concerns, reach out to help@preppy.org, they have an amazing customer service team that can help you out.

    I have my RHIT and I coded long term care for 17 years. I am wanting to get my CCS and thought I could do it by myself, but the PCS coding has me stumped. What is your suggestion for me to acquire the CCS credential?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  10 місяців тому

      With your extensive experience in long-term care and your RHIT, you've got a solid foundation to build upon for the CCS. PCS can indeed be a challenging component, especially if it's new to you.
      My suggestion would be to take a specialized course focusing specifically on PCS or ICD-10-PCS guidelines. Since you already have experience in coding, you might not need a full CCS course but rather targeted study on the areas you're less familiar with.
      Another option is to get a good PCS study guide and practice, practice, practice. Make sure you understand the rationale behind each code, as understanding the 'why' can often clarify the 'how.'
      Lastly, consider joining forums or social media groups where you can pose specific coding questions and get feedback from others who've been through the CCS exam.
      Good luck on your journey to earning the CCS credential!

    I was looking at the Preppy course for the program that you have been advocating. I'm a little confused on how the certification works. I see that you get a "certificate of completion" from Auburn University. However, to be clear....this isn't the certification that AAPC gives, right? This Preppy course just helps you prepare for taking the exam? Does preppy in their included price offer the AAPC exam or is that something you have to pay more money on separately from the course price? I would have direct messaged you or emailed you but I couldn't find where I could ask these questions. I'm very serious about possibly taking the course but I would like some solid answers from someone I trust.

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  4 місяці тому +1

      There are no courses that exist that will make you a certified coder upon completion, including the one from the AAPC. In order to become a CPC, you need to sit for an pass a proctored examination. Much like you are not an LPN when you complete your practical nursing courses, you need to sit for an official examination.
      Preppy will prepare you for taking the exam, but you will have to pay for AAPC membership and pass the exam. You would also have to pay for membership and pass the exam if you go with the AAPC or any other company.
