Thanks so much, Tamara! There is no specified amount of time required to work onsite before you can start working remotely. What may take you only 6 months to master may take someone else years. Everyone's learning curve is different so I always say as long as you have experience, you are serious and committed to the work (which is a major responsibility), and the provider is giving you the opportunity, go for it!

The beauty is you can take on as many or as few practices you would like. Grow the business to whatever you want it to be. Wishing you much success. Please keep me posted : )
I was just wondering, are most billers also medical coders? And if so, if a business already has a coder, maybe they don't need a biller? Are there people that just need billers?
Hi Olivia. Billers and coders play two different roles. So you can be a biller or a coder or both! The majority are either or. I'm a biller. I don't do coding. Providers will always need a biller to manage the billing. Coders are responsible for reading medical records and assigning the appropriate codes. Billers take the codes and create and submit claims to the insurance companies so the provider can get reimbursed for the services rendered. They also make sure patients pay their responsibility.
Hello! Thank you for sharing this :) This got me thinking I should try this and open my own business. I am certified as Billing and Coding specialist, but I have little experience, so it's been very hard to find a job. So I want to give this a try. But my question is where do you find Dr's that need Billers? I am able to work just about any practice and I am a quick learner, So learning the company's software won't be a problem to learn. I believe I have all the tools I need, Just need to be pointed in the right direction if you don't mind helping me. My thing is I wanted to start small with a few Physicians than eventually grow with time. Your help will be great :)

Please check out my video "15 Ways to Market Your Medical Billing Business". There are many ways to find providers but ultimately the name of the game is networking! You have to put yourself out there and let people know about the services that you offer.
Hi Monique. That depends on your goals. If you want to be a coder, obtain the CPC. If you want to be a biller, obtain the CPB. And if you want to do both, obtain both credentials. I’m not a coder, however, I did obtain the CPC for educational purposes. You can never have too much education! Coding is a different skillet and not a requirement for billers. Thanks so much! Yes!!! I talked about this in Medical Biller University™ last week Thursday! We had a class on how to start a virtual medical billing business and this was my first suggestion. You can start out as an independent contractor/freelance biller to make sure a billing business is truly what you want to pursue. Best of luck to you!
I was watching this and I am wondering. How can one have a successful medical business when there are businesses out there charging as low as 2.99% and so forth and so on. Not only that they seem to be doing so much more than an average or starting Medical Biller in terms of services. Anyone please elaborate on how one may still fit into this market with so many giants roaming about.
Every provider is not looking to go with the cheapest company. Those rates are what companies overseas are charging and the majority of providers are not outsourcing overseas. You get what you pay for! You can do extremely well with just one account. Your focus should not be on the competition. Focus on providing the best possible customer service and improving your skillset with continuing education. There is plenty of room for us ALL to win, from the largest company to a beginning solo freelancer.
I actually got my CBCS in 2009 and unless it has changed it is a very basic certification. It is not comparable to the AAPC CPB or CPC. But also keep in mind, medical billing certification is optional, not required. You can start a business without being certified. Thanks for watching!
This is a something that can really flourish as an in house business!! Especially during retirement days. What suggestion do you have for seeking designated /apprenticeship positions
Good Morning. Absolutely! Try contacting local billing companies who may be willing to train you. The pay may initially be low but your objective is to gain experience and then become self employed! Best of luck : )
Hello I have 23 years experience in billing and have done 1099 a couple years. However, I’m currently working full time but have 2 referral offers to assist in billing on a part-time basis. I’m not exactly sure what would be a fair commission for both parties. Can you assist?
Hi Sharonda. Your fees are going to vary depending on several different factors including: scope of work, number of providers, volume of claims, specialty, geographic location, etc.
NO MA'AM! Not necessary!!! If you have experience you can start as an independent contractor for $0. Or form a business (LLC) for a few hundred dollars. Do your research before investing TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars with anyone. Best of luck to you : )
I'm still working for someone right now. Planning to specialize and then branch out. I also go to take the CBCS exam on the 24th of this month. Also do you recommend a certain software for billing?
Hi Nita. Good luck with your CBCS exam! I do not recommend any one software in particular. I don't purchase software. I use whichever software the provider has. They are cloud based and I'm assigned a username and password to login via the internet. This keeps my expenses low.
Hi Gloria. There is no specified time frame as to when someone is ready to start their business. It's all about their experience and competency. What may take you 6 months to master may take someone else 2 years. So gain the experience and learn the entire revenue cycle. Then you are ready to start securing your own clients!
Hi I have a question, so do you recommend working with a private practice or physician remotely before starting your own medical billing business. Wanted to do this while I prep for nursing school.
Good Morning. Yes, I do recommend having experience prior to starting a billing business. You want to make sure you understand the entire revenue cycle and are staying up to date with industry changes prior to taking on this role. Managing the revenue for providers and practices is a major responsibility so learn the ins and outs first. But you can absolutely find contract work while you are in nursing school. Part time, full time, A/R projects, etc are always available. Best of luck to you!
I have 7 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management. I have experience in charge entry, payment posting and account receivable ( ar denials) Now I am trying to get Doctors/ Clinic for billing business from Us Could you please help me to get Doctors/ Clinic Regards Thank you
Good Morning Courtney. I do not pay for marketing or advertising. I simply go to where providers are looking for billers. On employment websites! It's free, easy and effective. I have had plenty of success that way. There are many remote opportunities there. Check out Indeed.com, Monster.com, ZipRecruiter.com, etc. Also, you want to NETWORK!! Let people know what services you offer. Even your own providers. If they don't need your services they may have a friend or colleague that does. You never know! Best of luck : )
Hi quiana, I am from India and I am working in a medical billing company as AR analyst . I saw all videos . Really amazing !! I need to know do you offer any job related to AR analyst ( Denial management ) or can I start a medical billing company If do so kindly suggest me
Hi. I have no firsthand knowledge about Claimtek. Your best bet is to check reviews, the better business bureau and try to speak with individuals who have invested and worked with them. Best of luck!
Thanks so much for sharing all this info! It was very helpful! I have about 4 years of medical billing experience and 1 year of AR so I’m really thinking about starting my own business. Hello thank you for your video, it really helped I graduated from UMA a year ago in March. I currently been working with a opthalmologist office for a year. I want to work from home and have my own business as a Medical biller, I am also thinking of becoming certified in billing, but would like to be able start my business after hours and on weekends how would I get started doing that what would I look under to promote myself.
Hi Bonnie. Thanks for watching! You can certainly start on the side and keep your 9-5. Look for remote opportunities on employment websites such as Indeed & Zip Recruiter. The ad may specify "contract/commission" and you can work independently, not as an employee. And start to create your own opportunities. Get out there and network!!! Let people and providers know about the services you offer. Start with your personal providers! Also join billing Facebook groups where you can connect with providers and billing business owners who may need some part time assistance. I'm an AAPC approved instructor so if you want to learn more about their CPB credential check out this link www.justaskthebiller.com/biller-boss-bootcamp-registration and email me at askthebiller@gmail.com with any questions. Take care!
Wow! Great video. I am contemplating on getting certified as a Medical Coder. I want to work from home like yourself. I have a question for you. How would you suggest that I get the word out about my new business, in thus arena? Thank you

Whats misleading about this video is the reality of experience is actually everything. You were a manager in revenue cycle, so you actually do have experience. This trying to sell courses and hook your girls up is such a gimmick. You can come to a provider and gain their trust because of your experience. Stop misleading. People are better off googling how to get certified.
There is nothing misleading about this video. And you’re wrong! I was never a revenue cycle manager. As I stated, I was the office manager where we outsourced the billing. I had zero billing experience when I was given my first opportunity. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well it is! And FYI… I’m a licensed AAPC approved billing instructor that assists plenty of students get certified as well. No gimmicks needed.🤷🏾♀️

Good Morning. Absolutely! Try contacting local billing companies who may be willing to train you. The pay may initially be low but your objective is to gain experience and then become self employed! Best of luck : )
If I want to start a small medical billing business like with four certified employees
How much will it cost ??
Hello I have 23 years experience in billing and have done 1099 a couple years. However, I’m currently working full time but have 2 referral offers to assist in billing on a part-time basis. I’m not exactly sure what would be a fair commission for both parties. Can you assist?
Hi Sharonda. Your fees are going to vary depending on several different factors including: scope of work, number of providers, volume of claims, specialty, geographic location, etc.
so you don't advise investing in softwares like ABS or caretek? I was thinking about buying into one of those franchises to get started.
Hi Nita how did your exam go? Did you go through the NHA for your studies? I am a CBCS certified through them.
Once upon graduation which I'm learning medical billing now how long should one wait after graduation to start this business?
Hi Gloria. There is no specified time frame as to when someone is ready to start their business. It's all about their experience and competency. What may take you 6 months to master may take someone else 2 years. So gain the experience and learn the entire revenue cycle. Then you are ready to start securing your own clients!
Great, but how can we convince the Doctor to give us a chance to providers billing services to them??
You shouldn't have to "convince" anyone. Interview really well and let your education, experience and referrals do the talking!
@@AskTheBiller Great answer, and I have also emailed you with name Hamza Naveed, please respond 🙂
Exactly what I’m working on
Best of luck to you : )
Hi I have a question, so do you recommend working with a private practice or physician remotely before starting your own medical billing business.

How did you market yourself
Good Morning Courtney. I do not pay for marketing or advertising. I simply go to where providers are looking for billers. On employment websites! It's free, easy and effective. I have had plenty of success that way. There are many remote opportunities there. Check out Indeed.com, Monster.com, ZipRecruiter.com, etc. Also, you want to NETWORK!! Let people know what services you offer. Even your own providers. If they don't need your services they may have a friend or colleague that does. You never know! Best of luck : )
How can I sign up for your class
Hi Meka. Here’s the link to my courses askthebiller.myshopify.com/collections/all thank you ❤️

Is claimtek a good coding business program
Aside from having a business license and (optional) certification, do we need anything to start this business? Thanks again!
Hi Jessica. Thanks so much for watching. I am so glad you found the info I shared to be helpful. You should absolutely go for it!!! Please follow me on Instagram @askthebiller. I have a 10 step checklist on how to start a medical billing business. Email or DM me on IG and I will forward the post to you : )
@@AskTheBiller thank you! I just sent you a DM on IG :)
Take care!
Is there any other materials I need to get like 1500 claim forms licensing and Etc

How do you get your clients or providers to seek you out as a cider for their practice? How many providers or physicians do you code for currently? How would you suggest that I get the word out about my new business, in thus arena? Thank you
Hi Mia. I’m not a coder. I’m a biller! They are different roles. Thanks for watching.😊

People are saying that I need to wait at least a year to do this...your thoughts?
Who are people?! You should have the education and training to confidently take on new clients and manage their revenue cycle. I cannot put a specific time period on that. Only you can determine when you are ready to start your business.
@@AskTheBiller just folks that are starting out like me e. I am not ready though. I will wait a year and get my experience. Thanks for your help!
@@nitanecolehaynes2025 You're welcome! Everyone's time frame will be different. What's most important, like you said, is gaining that experience.

Do u need to be certified to start ur own Medical Billing business?
No, certification is optional. It’s formal education.
I subscribed because you’re a black woman! PERIOD.
Thank you!!!!
I hv 8 year's of experience in medical billing can you please provide me small project
We love your great videos. We are a medical billing business here in Dubai and we are looking to expand to the USA.we would like to offer you a bussiness opportunity so therefore please let us know your business email to discuss it further more
