- I watched the season finale and was crying when i saw Quentin die and i can't stop hearing this song and crying.

The peach. THE PEACH. I was already a mess and then El pulled out the peach. I was gone.

i just watched this again, after having seen it so many times (cried literally every single one of them) and i'm still crying. E about to cry with that damn peach, Q crying even harder. i can't. my heart can't take it!
Me, sobbing: "Peaches and plums mother fucker!" *sobbing intensifies*

Q's death was a rollercoaster for me. I didn't realize how much I ended up liking the character until he died.
I was snarky toward this show, impatient with the characters, and even mocking them: over time it grew on me and when I saw this I was a wreck, even sad a few days after missing Q. Well done.

What's even sadder...elliot fought his way inside the monster, admitted that he loved Q....and he never got to see him.
I know that made me cry harder and harder too 😭, at least el is with Margo again that heals one wound, but leaves one opened for eternity.
That was literally the first thing I said to my girlfriend when I seen that q had died. The only thing that makes it somewhat ok is that they had already lived a full life together.
Yup, that's why I won't be watching the rest of this show. It was a dagger to the heart and I can't deal. #Queliot for life.

the only thing that comforts me is that they had a long and happy live together. And that was real.
The one that hit me weirdly the most was fog. He has seen 39 versions of Quentin die before this one. But this is the only one he knows he can’t bring back.

That's the part that gets me too, that and him throwing the "anti suicide" contract from season 1 in the fire. My tears doubled when I saw him do that.
I'm sorry but nobody is giving enough credit to Penny in this scene, I mean he's like a mentor into the afterlife lol and he plays it perfectly. Man that guys a pretty good actor.
"appreciate the level of sincere grief" is one of the greatest lines ever as the other things he said in the episode and it shows how the characters grow for real in the series.
*But* it's a moment where the group say goodbye to Quentin and also that they will meet him after their deaths, that for all purposes is "soon" as to show that they will long for him always and that life worth less without him.
And what the fuck? Dude, Eliot lost his love...
Eliot is the best character and he lost Quentin.

Penny40 post-mortem is definitely the type you'd want to guide you.
IMO Penny 23 was such a JERK that they had to kill him off. He is a Very good actor to make us laugh at his ineptness in social settings. Bringing in Penny 40 made him a much more likable Char. I can see them bringing in maybe Q-40?
Old Warrior uhmmmm you mixed 40 and 23 up, also they said if there was a GOOD reason to bring in another q they would but not to expect it or even hope for it. Quentin’s story is over and I don’t think they want to get into that pattern of adding an alternate for everyone
Old Warrior but yeah, he’s a brilliant actor, but I don’t think penny 40 was a jerk just to be a jerk, I think his abilities put him in this constant state of annoyance and it made him very apathetic, I don’t think he’s psychic anymore and that stoped the voices so he calmed down a lot. Penny 40 is by far my favorite character when you look at everyone’s full arc. He grew and changed so much, my ex and I watched this series together and every week we would say I wonder what bad thing happens to penny this time, because nobody got screwed over like he did.
I love the fact that Kady, who didn't seem to give a shit about Q, casts the spell that makes everyone know the lyrics of the song, so they all can sing it together, just like Q did when they all were on the seven keys quest. It shows that behind all those fights and differences that they had between them, each one of them really deeply cared for the rest of the group. And God, isn't that all that every life, even non-magic, youtube comment section one is about? Life is all about Unity. And even the sadly bitter ones like me have times when they appreciate this.
Thank You, Magicians. You've thaught me so many incredible, magical things about my ordinary, drained from magic life.

Actually Kady cared quite a bit about Q to the point she was angry when Julia put him in that spell in season 1. She’s always treated him like an annoying little brother but I would definitely not say she didn’t give a shit about him.

"Did I do something brave to save my friends? Or did I finally find a way to kill myself?" This sentence was so relatable. I've never known that I love Quentin that much... My heart is broken bc of a character I actually never liked like the others...
Ugh, this line still kills me. When he said that, it was like I'd had the breath knocked out of me. To think that he'd not only spent his life, but all 4 seasons that we got to watch him grow, questioning his worth, and wondering how much he actually meant to the world. Everyone is constantly just trying to leave their mark and make an impact in the world, and here we have a guy who literally helped save worlds, but depression still manages to hold him down and keep him from seeing his own worth.
It’s a gutting line that only 4 seasons of a show could earn. This one will haunt me for a long time, possibly forever.

shows the showrunners are cold, insensitive and have no idea about the issues of mental illness and suicide. I think they really messed up with this. That one line most importantly.

This reminds me of me. Right now. I don't want to be Q but I am. And this broke me heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. Maybe we will all move on to great places and remember those who made us and where they led us.

Still makes me near crying. Well that an epic actor exit. I identify with q and alice weirdly too. The best thing with a not great past is to learn and grow, like q. Everything must come to an end, but its still sad as hell, and he is a fictional character, why, so good actors.
I feel like I'm getting a little better. I cry for shorter amounts of time and some songs I associate with them only make my eyes water instead of full crying now. I feel I'll finally be better just in time to be destroyed by season 5. I am not ready for that.

Yeah Jason is not coming back for the 5th season. Unfortunately I don't know how they're going to do it since the show really revolves around him.
It's possible that the child that he and Eliot raised will make a return.
It's also possible that, if the show gets renewed for Season 6, that Quentin can make an appearance - if even for an episode. There aren't plans right now to bring him back....but you never know about the future.
If anything, I just hope that by the end of the series we can see him reunite with at least a few of his friends in the afterlife.
I am hoping he won’t be here for season five and at the end of it the old gods as a reward for stopping the latest threat bring him back
Just finished this series, and I find myself actually grieving Quentin’s death. Like, deaths on other shows suck, but Quentin’s actually hits hard. It’s like I lost someone in real life. Anybody else?

@juan roberts Yes agreed. I've watched this scene twice and been sobbing/ugly tearing during the whole scene from start to finish. I'm binge watching The Magicians for the first time just found it on Netflix and I love it. I'm on season 4 right now episode 12 after Quentin and Alice get back together knowing how they end and Eliot being back and saved only to loose the man he loves and knowing he acknowledges that love and seeing Quentin reflecting that love back with his tears hit right in the feels for me. I felt like I lost a part of Quentin I've never attached to a character like that. It hurts😭😭

Her fairy eye shows things magical that aren't able to be seen by human eyes. Unfortunately, I don't believe that would work with a spirit since that's not really magic, but a part of life.
Eliot and Quinton are the greatest love story to never happen. It's too hard to contemplate when I listen to this song.

The group dynamic of the flexibility of every friend and lovers love with each other is what made this a 21st century inclusive and dynamic love story, Eliot and Q, Q and Alice, The different Pennies with Julia and Kady.

No Q doesn’t finally love Alice… He will always love her in a way of course but his heart has evolved and matured a lot when he spent a lifetime with Eliot. His love for her will never be equivalent to the one he has for this man who’s been his brother,best friend, lover and husband for 50 years…

That hard? Yeah, a couple times before... but you can't just drop into a show; the buildup is everything. Those would be Buffy, "Once More With Feeling", "Conversations With Dead People" and "Seeing Red". The thing with Buffy is it's hard to tell when they're tears of laughter and when they're not
The look on Q’s face when he saw that Eliot was okay broke my heart more than anything.
Quentin was the leader that Fillory wished it had. Not that Margo and Elliot are bad. But Quentin loved Fillory so much he was kinda too good for it. It tore me up when Margo threw his crown into the fire. But if he doesn't get to wear that damn thing then nobody does.
And it showed how he is king of their hearts anyway, which is far better.
Fillory didn't deserve Q.

Some things I don't see anyone talking about in the comments:
1. Q did realize he "didn't want to leave all that" and he has to grieve the loss of the time he wishes he still had to spend with Elliot, and Alice, and Julia, and everyone else. Yes, he saved them and he's happy to see them safe, but he has to say goodbye to life. He has to acknowledge that this is the end for him. That breaks my heart.
2. Julia didn't put her item in until everyone else had left. The idea of letting go was killing her and she seemed to be hanging on to hope that she could find a way to bring him back just like she did so many other impossible things with her stubbornness and determination. She wanted to believe that Q was still there she took a few seconds to realize she was the one levitating the cards. Q had always been there since they were little. He was a constant. She always assumed he would be there, even after the fights and betrayals. His absence will have such a strong impact on her character development.
Everyone liked the El parts, but personally I find the Julia parts way way way way more moving. She lost her childhood best friend, who shared literally her wildest dream/adventure growing up (Fillory). She lost her childhood best friend who she was close with till the very end.
Not to put a damper on your spirits or comment, but ya got to remember El and Q shared an entire life together. Raised a fam, loved one another, and having to see each other die before
@@camilosimmons6643 Actually Q saw Eliot die. But regardless, speaking of that episode, it's possible that we might see the child that Q and Eliot raised during their life in Fillory in S5.

@@pyxl666 Yes, Q saw El die in that timeline, but he passed knowing he was with his true love and Q, even though saddened by it, knew that even though El died, at least he was with Q, the one man he truly loved out of everyone he's been with.
What's sad is there probably isn't another Q they could pull from an Alternate Timeline since he died against the beast in all of them and in 23 he became the beast and killed himself. It's also good to see how much Penny grew up in the underworld
Sadly, it was confirmed in an interview that he's not coming back in any form or fashion. Damn you Game of Thrones, I blame you for all my favorite characters dying now!
I LOVE how Penny was with Q this entire scene. He is so gentle, wise and kind with Q. It shows SO much growth on Penny. I love it.

I've often wondered if it was possible to return after death to witness what people thought of me. If it's anything like this I would be balling ghost tears. Who knew that Aha's "Take on me" could be delivered in such a beautiful and poignant way and yes, just like many of the commenters have already said, Elliots entrance and singing broke me as well.

I didn't realize how much I loved Q until he died.
This show has some damn good writers. Everything fit into place all the way up to the saddest season finale I've ever watched. What was once a cool 80s dance song for me has now become a mantra to a character and a show that I will never forget. Up to the end Quentin believed in magick. I haven't been able to stop watching this since I saw it for the first time. I was fine until Elliot walked in singing and Quentin's face started to tear up. If you ask me every character was excellent at portraying their role in the story. I've been watching similar shows like Netflix's The Order, Legacies, and hell even the ever-popular Harry Potter movies will never compare to this show in my eyes.
Quentin was the glue and the captain of the ship.
Not really. He was actually quite the un-hero for most of the show. Unremarkable except for Jane's "volunteer tomato" metaphor, which is why she put all her hopes in him being able to defeat the Beast. And even then, his strategy for defeating the Beast was to humbly recognise that Alice was their best weapon. In the end, he was the right person (minor mender) in the right place (near the mirror) to make the heroic sacrifice, and he had the courage to go through with it. He's grown into the hero in spite of himself.
@@ginsengaddict He was the one who got the group together in season 1 and helped solved alot of season 2s problems and led them in the quest for the keys and he also pointed out they needed to work together to save Josh and get the unity key
Quentin was the heart of the series to me, right from the start. I hate that they killed him off! Granted, this was the most beautiful, heartfelt scene of all time.. but I don't know if I even want to watch the show anymore.. without Q!
Quentin was the helmsman not the captain he steered the story but I think Margo was the captain

We all want to be many things on this planet, but I don't know a decent soul who wouldn't want THAT feeling/knowingness of how much they touched and changed people's lives for the better while here on Earth as their legacy. Beautiful writing. Amazing cast. Stellar scene. Bravo 👏

That song followed me for the past three years across each continent I traveled. I couldn't believe hearing it in countries and areas you'd never expect. I could never figure out why and then one day last year these few lyrics made sense: "It's no better to be safe than sorry". When I moved to a new place thousands of miles away from everyone I knew, loved, and even worked with, what song came on randomly? This one. It was like a sign from the universe and it meant so many things to me that I cannot even possibly list right now.
I must say without hesitation that both of your supremely kind comments give me so much hope that there are people who, like you said, think and feel like us. You are that proof for me. In this chaotic world, may we both hold tight to our knowing that what matters is not necessarily tangible and it has value beyond what most of the world gives value to. One of my favorite scenes from Magicians. Quentin asking if he did it to find a way to kill himself or save his friends followed by this was beautiful.
When Kady did the spell... I just remembered how Q did it the first time... I never tear up to anything, but this was something else.
El showing to the friend he never got to say goodbye to was heart wrenching.
Overall, I am an emotional wreck. 🤷♂️

It's because the walls that anyone puts up thinking they are protecting themselves and such fall down once entering the underworld, to reveal their true personalities and how good of people they are, no walls or protection. Who’s watching this in 2020 because they miss it
Everyone is saying they broke when Elliot came out, but the moment Kady started that spell I lost it. Not only is this the most beautiful rendition of this song I've ever heard but this death hit me harder than Mufasa in the Lion King or Thomas J in My Girl.
Quentin's genuine happiness when he finally breaks the depression and finds happiness knowing the amount of respect and care everyone in the group had for him only to be to late because he is dead hurts. I'm not crying, you are.
Everything about Elliot in this scene is absolutely devastating. The moment he comes in in i lose it every time.
Not to say every single one of them BROUGHT it and made this whole scene an utter killer
I'll admit, the E and Q relationship is the first one of its kind I've seen on TV or movies that didn't trigger my squick. They did it so well that it just came through as pure love, not just a way to show a gay affair on the TV. I've never cried over a death in a TV show until this episode. I mist up every time. Oh, and I Want more of Hale (Eliot) and Jade's (Kady) voices. Those two have pipes.

Q has ready lived a life and than some. He's had a family. And then got to mend his relationship with Alice. And he died a hero.
I see lots of comments about Eliot, and I whole heartedly agree how sad it is that Quentin and Eliot never got to see or speak to each other before before Quentin's untimely death, but I have to be honest. My heart reaches out the most for Julia. She's been through the worst shit. Even worse than the whole other group, combined. She experienced rejection, inferiority, depression, rape, loss, abandonment, pain, rage, sadness, fear, vengeance, disappointment, deceit, betrayal, manipulation, lack of purpose in life; I mean the list goes on! And now her best friend, who she's known for the majority of her lifespan and known longer than anyone else, is dead and gone. Forever.
I mostly agree except she hasn't known him longer than anyone else she knew him EARLIER than anyone else. Quentin and Elliot lived like a weird 50 something year relationship together in that pocket time loop thing that happened and since they were the only ones who experienced it Elliot did know Quentin longer than Julia by like several decades.
@@johnhenrybussey Eh, "technically" that never ended up happening, so "technically" Julia can still say she's known him longer lol. I like to think of it more as Eliot and Quentin both a read a story about themselves that no one else will ever be able to read.

I rewatching for the first time. And man... I cry quite often during tv show death just because I’m super emotional. But this one, this took my breath away. Q was never my favorite and at time I hated him. But his death literally messed me up.
The thing I was most upset that didnt cross from the books was when Fillory was being destroyed and Q shortly became a god and he looked at the world and his discipline was suddenly clear because he could easily fix it all. After all, what wasn't minor to a god?
“Just one last look”, he says, more like “one last look on the best damn cast in history”. Of course, before the glue (Quentin) of the group doesn’t come back for S5.
When el appears and i remember about peaches and plums and everything Q did this season for elliot, its like being stabbed in my heart
i am gonna miss Quentin in every single episode of season 5 😢😭
I am sad that they have cancelled the show. When I listen to this song, I miss them all even more 😢

Isobel from Izombie was pretty shattering, but not as much as this.
I mean, certain chord progressions just make me cry so I'm pretty basic but this still hit me harder than any other media I've watched or heard ever si yeah.
I don't think any show will ever be so relevant to me ever again. The emotions. The dealing with mental problems. Just everything. Ill never forget it.

7 months sober this past Saturday. 1st time watching and listening to this sober. This time, I am crying sober tears. Love this song, show and video.
I end up watching this a few times a day. So mad about it being canceled. But miss it so much.

I never thought I'd love a show as much as I loved "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Then "The Magicians" came along....fare well Quentin Coldwater. You have been missed.
I used to hate Quentin so much until I realized why. I see reflections of myself in his character.
Honestly I'm the same way,, except I was off and on. I loved him at first, then when I saw his personality I.. hated him? But then he got to me, I adore him as a character, though, if I'm being honest.
Even if they mess it up with the death of this character. I have to admit, that the directors, the actors, the entire production team and the writers did a great job with all these amazing scenes. The photography, the soundtracks, the all cinematography of this tv show is dope.
A lot of people are saying they're going to stop watching the show from here on out but if they do that's okay, everything's a spin-off from this point, if you see this as the finale then it's still going down in history

And I still do watching these. The night after the show I went on a binge with all their musical numbers here on YT. Start with Shake It Off - that is such perfect Q. Tears! This will always hurt, and Season 5 show be...interesting.

Her and Eliot both! Under Pressure was just great, and then Eliot in Don't Get Me Wrong! I've had to take a break these last few days from watching Take On Me over and over, as the heart can only take so much, and these other songs are great for that.

There is something so powerfull about Penny, Q's half friend - half rival, was actually the one who hold him at the very end...Beautifull and symbolic and sad and...oh my God..so powerfull

Gotta give them props for this season, I will really miss Quentin in the series but it was well done and written.
Years have passed and this is still my favorite rendition of this song. My best friend and I just got matching tattoos of a campfire with the lyrics “life is okay” around it. We loved this show and the books. It’s a special bond between us.
This made me cry after 12 years of not crying. I related with Q on so many different ways. Broke my heart when he died. I wonder the same thing as him. Chills every single time.

Quentin, Margo, Kady, and Julia are my favorite characters. I like how they foreshadowed Julia getting powers by her wearing the goddess outfit.
Quentin teared up, and later crying, when watching just pushed me over the edge. I cried at this part of the episode. No shame.
IMHO This one of the few TV shows that converted to regular musical episodes, without being remembered for cringe.
I still feel the memory of so many scenes/songs.

I only found out about the series The Magicians this year (Jan-Feb 2021) on Netflix, but the show was amazing from beginning to end. I can't believe I never found this prior. Cable really is the death of good television (cough cough Syfy). I really hope a miracle (magic) can put this show back on the air via Netflix or some other streaming service. Let it only be a day or two :)

I told my husband I want this version of the song played at my funeral. The original was the first music video I ever saw growing up and this version just crushes my soul everytime. I can't listen and not cry my eyes out.
This was such a fun song for me when i first heard it. Now it brings me to tears. I feel so sad.
