Geez you got a good bunch of blokes, Nicos amazing driving the other end of the sander. Did that for 2 hours once, and couldn't use my arms for 2 days. Thanks m8s, doin well!
The ring around the hole in the coachroof would traditionally be made of hardwood, as you initially did, but at least a minimum of 50mm thick, often around 75mm thick. That not only provides far better protection from direct water ingress but also gives a good amount of area around its outer vertical face for sealing the mast boot. I suspect that your thin plywood ring will cause leakage issues in the future. It’s not a huge problem to change it down the track and I have no idea how far behind your YT vid is behind the present, so please don’t regard this as a downer! You’re doing a massive job and you’re getting it done, you have my wholehearted admiration for your commitment and your efforts. You’re making a beautiful home and something to be proud of. Viva Yaba! 😎👍🍻
It definitely needs to be thicker so you can properly secure the mast boot. The one fitted is too thin. Also should have a lip so you can put either a lashing or a hose clamp round it to secure the boot and it won't ride up.
@@richardp2152 Yup, I favour a lashing, the damn hoseclamp screw fitting always seemed to end up snagging stuff somehow, even when it’s right down at deck level.
Been watching since you bought this boat. Watch every episode weekly. Wanted to share tip. It's the journey that counts and not the destination. So enjoy because you will sail one day but this is the real prize. 😊 oh and after a long year or more I finally logged in and subscribed.
Great episode and I very much appreciated the work to get the roof and hull fared aswell as painted, hopefully you are going to show us all on the upcoming video. Have a ripper you guys!
@@SailingYaba It only takes a tiny bit of sand - too much turns black. Paint and cast the sand, like sowing seeds. You can always add more but cannot take it back up.
The kite or the rest of it was hanging in the wires in the air, 16 minutes and 14 seconds into the video. You are fantastic getting Yaba together. Dood luck to all of you, Best regards, Bengt Sandgren from Norway
She's looking good! Nice work, fairing the cabintop with a "guide coat". That's the term for the thin black coat you applied over the fairing compound and primer.
Holy Dooley Ben, you must admit that when you started this project you were pretty soft but now I look at you and you are a mean, lean, fighting machine, all this hard manual labour has done you the power of good. MP, well you just always look good. I’m really impressed with the effort that has gone into the paint job, I think it will turn out looking very sharp, good job guys
Who's werecked kite was hanging off your mast lines lol... Yaba is looking more beautiful every Sunday when you post... maybe she will make it to Australia one day... Both of you are an inspiration and love your dedication... Can't wait to see Yaba's final colour! Take care guys, Simon
Whenever your drilling hole in the deck, drill a larger hole than needed ,fill with epoxy, then when you drill the correct size,if water does intrude it won’t make contact with any wood. Boat looks great.getting close to splashing!! Fair winds ⛵️
MP I think your sweater with the colors of the boat looks nice. Heather grey with a little white outline. Now put a green Yaba name on the boat it should pop nicely.
Hi guys, just looking at the red boat next door (from brief glimpses I got through a computer screen, 10,000 miles away lol) it looks similar to Yaba in style and size, and if so, your waterlines are looking similar too! Yaba is coming on great. PS. My back ached in sympathy when seeing you on the longboards (it's still knackered 30 years on from longboarding a 58-foot 1912 motorboat...)
I was thinking more comparing the red yachts 's water line to where I think Yaba's line will be very near perfect!. As MP quite rightly commented, it's not a big deal to tweak at a later date once she has been in the water, (Yaba - not MP!!! lol) especially once fueled, watered and provisioned etc... Traditional wooden boats over the years naturally get heavier and the said 1912 motorboat had 3 waterlines over the years!
One to two more hours! 🤣😂🤣😂Ben you’re sooo funny!🤣😂🤣😂 Young one, long boarding a hull or deck is measured in days, not hours! You’re feeling why there is usually a large crew all long boarding and hand sanding at once. That way the long boarders can have frequent breaks so they don’t blow out their rotator cuffs. 😬😵💫😬

The next time you do this job, you should make it 1000 times easier and treat it like a floor. Use a floor sander. You will get a lot more done in a lot less time, with a lot less effort.
Yep saw what was left of the kite about 16m14 sec tangled up in the rigging , you and all the crew are doing an absolutely amazing job , Yaba is looking younger and younger every time we see her , not long now and she’ll look like a brand new boat , best wishes from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Are you planning on putting mast wedges on the roof where mast passes thru? I believe you'll need them, the mast should not be moving around. Beautiful job you both are doing.
Hi Ben. I'm Sorry I havnt been on your Channel for a little while now. I'm in Ireland and i went to Melbourne Australia to visit my Sister. But im back now lol.. It's far too hot for me there. 😅😅. I cant believe how far you've come with the Boat. Your dalm near finished. Well done Ben too you all for the Amazing work you put in. That Sanding is not easy but you did it. You should be so Proud of yourself. Really proud guys. I cant wait until its on the Water where She should be lol 😅. Ben if you need anything sorted out from Ireland just let me know. Anyway great video again Ben and Chat later. Stay Safe and keep Smiling bro 😅😅
I've been watching you guys since Yaba was sailed to the boatyard. I was SO surprised that you had to have gas pumps running constantly so she wouldn't sink... BUT now Yaba is SO SO close to gracing the seaways again... GOOD ON YOU GUYS!!! Love From Canada.
Hi, one job this week and it's grey in the end! But how good is that? Bloody hell, it looks great and, with less expansion and contraction no more inside rain. Fantastic. Really happy for you two. And liking the fact the hull is getting close. Great job - looking forward to seeing the colour. Cheers from Vancouver Canada
Great progress being made. Love the painting it has a great finish to it and should look fantastic when completed and also keep any water outside Yaba. Not sure if you can see this comment. I am having problems with UA-cam at the moment. Keep well and safe. James.
