Just gonna say if you clicked on this hour-long video of me ripping into this show as one of the worst pieces of Star Wars ever made, and the first 3 minutes where I defend one tiny thing about it has somehow convinced you I like the show, you’re an idiot. I’m not being nice about this one. I’ve gotten too many of these comments. If you watched the opening and concluded that I like The Acolyte you’re a fucking moron.

The problem with your first 3 minutes is that you hand wave legitimate criticisms and act like they don't matter while acting like your superior to those who do criticize these things. The reason the Mundi cameo and fire in space things blew up is because these are examples of the writers not caring at all. Literally, all it would have taken is for the writers to do a Google search, but they couldn't even do that. The only one you kinda have a point on is the actor mixing up Luke and Anikin, and even then, you just ignore the other reason that clip was criticized. The problem with his statement is that he was completely misrepresenting Star Wars, trying to make it some morally grey story when the series is as black and white as it gets. Also, there's a part where you say other critics are focusing too much on these details. I don't know the other critics, but i know with drinker that's just not true. His criticisms for those scenes were small parts of his videos. He did the same thing you're doing with this video, but you're trying to make yourself seem superior to him and the other critics. It gives off major. "I don't like the acolyte, but I'm not like those other people who don't like the acolyte I'm one of the good ones" energy and overall makes you seem condescending to people who otherwise would agree with you.

You know there is a reason why soldiers are exempt from murder prosecution when they do the killing in their line of duty. Granted in the eyes of the empire the rebellion was not a legitemate organisation, and if they have gotten their hands on Luke (before he learned the ways of the force, and surrendered himself to Vader on Endor), would have tried found guilty and summerily executed them for the 'murders' of the personel on their deep space mining platform

    • @user-gm4kv2my4u

      Yup even without the flub
In what world is blowing up the death star even remotely immoral? There is no shade of grey when it comes to the Death Star. That thing is a weapon of mass destruction beyond comprehension. But even that is not the reason it needed to be destroyed. The real reason it had to go - at all cost - was because the empire was so freaking evil that they would use the death star for what amounts to an *interrogation tactic.* The killed billions if not trillions of people. For what? For information? Just to test and flex their power? When you factor in Rogue One, you realize the Empire have been using the Death Star on a regular basis. The empire had made it clear. They would use this weapon at any time for the most petty of reasons. So it had to be destroyed. At all cost - including the cost of the lives of the people that were on that station.

The idea of two sisters being essentially the Yin & Yang of one another with their life experiences eventually resulting in a direct flip could have been very interesting. Plagueis messing around with emaculate birth before perfecting his craft with Anakin could have been incredibly interesting. We live in a time of endlessly deep pockets and shallow efforts.

Seriously, there was potential right there for a decent story. How about instead of Mae killing Jedi because of a tragedy that _was HER OWN fault,_ it could've been a Tai Lung-type story where the Jedi brought up Mae and Osha under the false belief that either of them could be the Chosen One. Mae would instead of taking revenge for the Jedi throwing her (and I guess Osha) out after they realize that she in fact ISN'T the Chosen One. Boom, a more compelling motive AND a proper exploration of the whole "um, maybe Jedi be flawed" concept.
Hell, maybe even have Qimir's backstory be a sort of parallel to that. Perhaps he USED to be Plagueis' Sith apprentice, but eventually grew fed up with the Sith's attachment to their long-term plan and left to pursue his own freedom. With Plagueis then hunting Qimir down both to punish his rebellion and to stop him from accidentally letting the Jedi know about the Sith. There, we have at least some kind of commonality between the twins and Qimir, with one twin following his descent to the Dark Side and the other twin holding strong and remaining allied to the Light Side. Or something like that, I'm just spitballing ideas for a maybe-fanfic better than the "canon" garbage we got.

The terrible part is that because of this, Mundi now has information that he was never meant to in any way know. So when he says in The Phantom Menace (which is very much canon under any official interpretation by Disney) that Sith haven't been seen for a thousand years, he's lying. But it doesn't make any sense for him to do so.

It's not that he CANNOT be older in Phantom Menace, it's that he's IN PHANTOM MENACE.
They specifically chose THE character that said the sith haven't been seen for a THOUSAND YEARS, and less than ONE of his race's lifetimes ago, apparently, he was literally included in a massive incident regarding a SITH showing up and slaughtering FOUR jedi masters which he was involved in covering up by concealing it from the Jedi Council! Which he is now ON.
There was NO reason to bring him into this show, AND TO ADD TO IT, he's not supposed to be BORN in the first place, so they had to make multiple ABSURD changes just to have a fucking cameo.
It shows clearly how shit this show is, and how it has NOTHING of its own to offer.
Then the last episode makes it SO MUCH WORSE because YODA is also involved in this situation. So they're just assassinating all the characters.

Literally, as in, Talzin already having Dooku's hair for the voodoo doll meant that training Savage to kill Dooku was entirely unneeded (the only reason Dooku survived the voodoo doll attack was because Grievous was conveniently in the right spot to stop it). 58:43 What happened to Torbin was horrific (very good summary, btw), but now I’m even more pissed at how everyone in the show (and no small number of its defenders) treat him like he has an equal share of the ‘’’blame’’’ for what happened on Brendock.
In an even _slightly_ better written version of this show, the fact that Mae kills him (and in such a sadistic way) would have been a major turning point for most characters, especially if it took place later in the season than episode fecking _two._
Sol would see his guilt at what had happened and his resolve to bring Mae in alive harden. What Aniseya did to Torbin was evil. What Mae did was compounded evil. Whatever mistakes Sol made in the past, someone truly innocent and suffering has died for it. Before, the mission was to bring Mae in. Now it’s to put her down.
For Mae, it would be when she sees herself as too invested in her mission to turn back. Her plan to seek clemency with the Jedi would be insane after what she did because there would be no reasonable way to overlook it. This could be further reinforced with a fight against Sol post-Torbin that sharply contrasts one pre-Torbin. Whatever openings and vulnerabilities Sol may have had before are gone along with his defensive style, and Mae realizes to her horror that their last fight (and implicitly her fight with Indara) only went even remotely in her favor because of Sol’s now-vanished compassion. The fight ends brutally with something like Sol taking off a hand or snapping an arm, and Mae’s newfound fear and barely-escape would drive her further to her Master as she realizes just how inadequate her power is and is terrified of being found wanting ever again.
I could go on, but this has gone on for a while and is rapidly turning into thinly-veiled fan fiction.

Nah, please go on cooking by all means. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I have read _actual fanfiction_ of Star Wars with far higher quality than Headland's $180 million atrocity. Mae getting beat that bad by an enraged Sol would also perfectly fit a great part of the Jedi Code; they hold back in fights to spare their enemies _because_ Jedi know how dangerous their skills are when let off the chain. So Mae getting a serious wake-up call that she actually _can't_ 1-v-1 a Jedi Master going all-out would be a great demonstration of that point.
I mean, hell, _I'm_ starting to think about doing my own rewrite of the show with actual characters and logical plot (try to make Jecki, Yord, Vernestra and others into actual people, sensible domino-effect story beats that cause and effect each other, etc). Not sure where I would post it if I ever do, but I might just borrow inspiration from this awesome brainstorm. Much thanks for taking the time to put out some great ideas for a much better story than what we got.

"I think he’s kind of like, “What is going on with this guy?” I love Bazil, I wanted to give him a hero moment. I wanted Sol to be completely on edge."
What the fuck??? This doesn't explain anything! Actually, if there's one thing this explains, its that the showrunners actively don't care about cause and effect. They just want things to happen for the sake of it, to get their action figures into the right positions, and don't care about the setup required for this to actually happen.

Pausing for a minute to address your point about R4 breaking down being a contrivance and therefore a writing flaw.
I actually totally disagree, and I'm not just trying to blindly defend my beloved OT. The moment with R4 doesn't exist to create drama and tension, but to build on the lore of Star Wars and develop its characters.
    1. It establishes that Jaws are like the Temu of Tatooine. They're scavengers that choose expediency over quality or integrity, and it shows in their product. It's more than reasonable to assume that they sell door to door because if they didn't, moisture farmers would just go into town and buy from a trusted vendor. The Jawas are a cheap and convenient option if you need serviceable droids and you're not too concerned with how ethically they were obtained. We see the interior of the sandcrawler as well and it's just a big pile of junk. Hell, look at the method by which they captured R2. Blasting a droid with a weaker constitution with one of those stun guns could easily cause a droid to malfunction. R4's bad motivator only further enforces the already established concept that Jawas are shady.
    2. This scene further develops R2 and Threepio's relationship. After having an argument and splitting up, they are joyful to be reunited when they're captured by the Jawas, only for Threepio to say NOTHING when Owen chooses R4 instead of R2. If R4 hadn't broken down, Threepio would've abandoned R2 with the Jawas. Then when he gets Luke to have Owen buy R2 instead, he immediately holds out over his head. This is because Threepio is a bitch. The film goes to great lengths to show this character trait time and time again. It's a great little scene that does so much more than you implied.
The real contrivance is that both R2 and Threepio ended up on the same sandcrawler when they went opposite directions.

      There's a difference between a contrivance and a coincidence.
Like by his definition, literally anything happening in a movie is a contrivance because someone wrote that it happened when it could have happened any other way.
A contrivance is when the universe BENDS to force the plot into an unnatural direction. A plot HOLE is when something IMPOSSIBLE happens in order to serve the plot.
Examples. A contrivance is OSHA being arrested and then put conveniently on a ship manned by droids where one of the prisoners has the ability to hack droids with his brain. Basically that whole scene is a contrivance actually, her surviving the crash ONTO A PLANET out of hyperspace is probably a plot hole, but I'll be generous and say it's peak contrivance.
A plot hole is Rose teleporting next to Finn's ship and crashing into him to stop him from suiciding in the laser then Finn impossibly carrying Rose all the way to the base in an open, white field that kicks up red dust with every step, with dozens of walkers armed with turrets looking RIGHT at them and they get back in without so much as a scratch. Totally impossible, plot hole.
A scavenged droid breaking less than 3 minutes after it's turned on and moves around, is certainly not a contrivance.

The dynamic should obviously be an uneasy one where Osha will inevitably try to betray Qimir whose fully aware of the risks of taking an unwilling apprentice. I think you down played the lack of knowledge on the lore for an actor to know. I think you have a decent reasons why you think that way but i just disagree overall. If you are trying to get hype for the show fumbling the lore is like kicking the fans in the shin. The fans will pay attention but they are not happy.
The issue i have with the actor messing up twice and not understanding that they messed up. It shows they don't care about the role/IP. Its a pay day and i have worked jobs for a pay check and let me tell you i did just enough to scrape by.
I don't blame the actor as i will agree he doesn't need to put in the extra effort but then the director/higher-ups has to put in that extra work to make sure they get the best from the actor. The people in charge should make the actors aware of the basics of the IP. They should make the actors know enough and its clear they didn't. This is why its so important it shows the failure of the people in charge. It also show the lack of care and passion the actor has for being actor and wanting to get into the role. They need to know the basics from the main cannon. Specially if being a spokesman for the brand.
This is why its such a massive failure to me it shows the people in charge didn't care and the actor didn't care particularly because those in charge didn't care. Those feelings then will spread to others on set and soon noone is giving their best.

Also they gave it in a book I believe. I realize that Disney made all old canon irrelevant as 'Legends' but they don't even follow the lore that they are trying to create. Its garbage writing by people who don't know or don't care about what the IP was. The issue is what it was, is what the established fans liked about it. The reason I thought Disney purchased Star Wars to begin with. To have access to the largest fan base in sci-fi cinema. And Theory was not really upset about the DOB, it was more about making the Jedi Counsel a bunch of idiots as now there is a self-declared SITH before the Phantom Menace, something Mundi said was impossible. So are he and Yoda re grossly incompetent, stupid, or complicit. Where do I even Start? Its pure Garbage bud. thanks for the convo :)

The show is like a Rorschach test for fans, in part because it's so confused, contradictory, and has character motivations, interactions, and events that are all over the place. There is plenty of material for fans who insist on finding a narrative which is singular and personal to them alone, and argue it, because of the rapid-fire stupidity in the episodes. Many fans are also simply ignorant of what good writing is (cf Bly Manor). It's disturbing how impassioned some get by defending the inverted moral framework of the characters and factions. It's Star Wars. There should be clear and unambiguous good guys, and bad guys. Maybe with people who make mistakes, bad decisions, of are coerced and suborned along the way. But here, who wins? Two star-crossed serial murderers, holding hands in the sunset, preparing to get their Sith freak on. The winners are not good guys. They're fucking darkside killers, unrepentant, and dangerous. The good guys are dead. And the other survivors are trying to cover it up.
Maybe it plays to fans' narcissism, and nihilism, to root for the bad guys. Fine, make that choice. But don't bash me to agree.

Little Platoon pointed out that Sol knocks out Mei because she's trying to contacxt the Council (he didn't say if he believed Sol had figured if she was Mei or not). I hadn't considered that, for obviously odd reasons, though it's still confusing.

Bruh, "who blew up the death star" is not some obscure SW lore, it's something anyone could tell you. Plus it's a follow up on the last dumb thing he said, meaning he (or his PR guy) definitely should've been prepared. And it's a stupid statement even if he got it right! This is definitely proof that something ain't right.

Sheev, you did an amazing job with this video. I have friends who have been the victims of assault both sexual and physical and I have seen the effects first hands. It's crippling, it's destroying and it can last life times. It's like glue holding together a broken plate. It still looks like a plate but the cracks are never fully repaired.
Star Trek Picard handled this concept really well with Picard and Seven of Nine who are both ex-Borg and were violated by them in being former drones. Seven asks Picard if he ever truly regained who he used to be and Picard admits he's never fully overcome how they violated him.
I've always been a fan of your content and I feel pride in that. You did really well with this. Top marks!

...like, what the fight are you supposed to do? Sometimes the sign are so obvious it's become irresponsible to ignore.

Sheev's opening scrawl about people complaining about minute details like Ki Adi's age as if getting all the details wrong writing A PREQUEL isn't the most horrifying possibility for fans because it means that the author of the script can and will harm established characters and lore. At this point, Sheev's entire beginning was "hey guys I hate this story for its WRITING hahahaha so don't group me into the people who hate the story for its writing AND IT HURTING THEIR CHILDHOODS" and its not the first video to do this (if you include podcasts, of which I watched all of them, past tense)
Don't forget that during his opening he ALSO said that people being angry at actors for not knowing incredibly core and basic simple easy to understand facts that, no Sheev, they should know even as an EXTREMELY casual "***fan*** coming in". The fact that no one corrected him the first time and the actors not having any knowledge whatsoever of the franchise is a WARNING SIGN. Sometimes they are wrong. Not here. Why didn't anyone, I don't know, tell him? Why didn't they cut that statement out of either of the videos? If the answer is they don't care, that's the issue

I think you misunderstood my point. An actor not knowing a piece of SW trivia and a character being alive at this point in the timeline when there’s nothing canonically saying they can’t be are NOT examples of writing problems, and that’s why I don’t uphold them as issues.

tl;dr Mundi isn't said to age slower than humans in the prequels, so implied canon and non disney canon say he shouldn't be in acolyte, and maybe disney canon but I stopped reading those after a rebels novel
I see. I've been a fan for a while and we agree on writing problems not being only those that are explicitly stated, and include those implied. In my opinion (and possibly faulty memory), on the council in the prequels everyone bar Yoda's species are pretty much considered to age normally. Mundi looks like an older man but hasn't lived 10000 years and defers to Yoda for wisdom, even acts brash, and looks like a big headed human. The other aliens that don't show aging as clearly show it through voice and are all very clearly at a stage in life like middle aged or something, like Dexter isn't 1000 years old he's just an adult. In my opinion and based on established lore, if not canon, and implied canon, Mundi should not be able to live the extra hundred years when he appears in acolyte, and I consider that a story issue

You think most actors sit there and nerd out about MUH LORE? Knowing who blew up the death star has literally no relation to his character, his performance, or anything to do with him. Him being able to ERM AKSHULLY some sweaty neckbeard about what species Yoda is is completely irrelevant to acting. I hate to break it to you but most actors don't care about the franchise they're in. That's why they're ACTORS and not NERDS because they're A C T I N G
