Agree on all your points - I love my Komodo and I think it's helped me progress as a filmmaker and develop my craft in capturing images. I think it's such a versatile camera and for the image quality you can't really get anything better at this price point.
Hey that was nicely done. Simple and clear with lots of helpful insights. And your mellow vibe was a welcome change from all those people who feel the need to shout their reviews into the camera. Peace out!
Just for reference. A non-global shutter sensor will capture the image data from the sensor top to bottom, and depending on the readout speed of the sensor, this will cause the skewed ‘jello’ effect, as the image has essentially shifted before the camera has finished capturing the whole frame. Global just captures the whole frame simultaneously. I love global, it’s hard to go back to rolling.
Great video Aya, I've had my mind on the Komodo for a while now. Your thoughts on the Komodo not being good for a solo operator piqued my curiosity. Do you think even with a follow focus wheel and on camera monitor it would be difficult for one person to use?
Thanks Evan! I don't think it's difficult to use per se - it depends on the experience of the person behind the camera and it just takes some time getting used to. What I was trying to say is that if it'll be mainly used in a run and gun environment, where you have less control over what's happening and the react time is limited, then I'd pick another camera. But it also depends on what your personal style and preference is. Hope that makes sense :)
Check out the Hasselblad mod for using the small built in screen on the Komodo. Basically turns it into an EVF or a waist level viewfinder. Granted its more rigging to breakdown/setup but if you're in between jobs it makes for a way more portable and stealth setup.
I love shooting on Komodo as well. It’s more effort but the end result is a beautiful body of work. I know a Sony FX6 or FX9 with autofocus and a 24-70mm G Master Zoom lens would make life easier but I don’t feel the same artistic energy. BTW, instead of rigging your camera for every shoot, I suggest a Sachtler Camera Rollpack or Doctor Bag which let’s you keep a fully rigged Komodo in the bag while being easy to open and immediately ready to shoot.
Yes, I’m planning to get an FX3 as a B cam because there are some projects where something like the Komodo isn’t really necessary. And yes, thanks for the rec! I’ve seen similar bags from Tenba and they might really be helpful to avoid rigging every time. Thank you
@@lostinayaland- that was my next question- with you Komodo - which camera do you use as a B cam? Does the time & effort it would take to match colors - combined with the price of the OG Komodo - would it be better to purchase an OG Komodo for your B-cam?
Great video! I use the DaVinci speed editor with resolve which is truly a game changer when it comes to shit selection and editing. Changes everyyyything and saves loads of time! I love my Komodo and using resolve and grading my R3D files with ACES space. Just fantastic. Also there are a few great options now for Lidar based hybrid auto focus for cine lenses.
Yes! We’ve tested the speed editor too - it’s a great piece of tech, I really want to get the new mini color panel that Blackmagic just announced. Also yeah, been eyeing the DJI lidar focus, so might be a great solution for those run and gun scenarios.

Thanks Ed! Totally, I also think that’s the most important quality of a camera - to make you level up as a creative.
@@lostinayaland. Would you say the image looks better (cinematic & clear)- the "wow" factor - over the FX6 ?
Just got a Komodo 6K donated for my docu-series. Thanks for sharing!
That is awesome! Good luck creating 🎥
@ thanks!

Love you explanation of your experience with the Komodo. Awesome clips too!
Thank you!! :)

@@sittingnow thank you for explaining it so good. Totally agree
Does it get annoying having to wait for it to heat up to the optimal temp and having to black shade the sensor?
great video. 100% agree !
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear 🙌
I might be getting one.
So excited!!!
Oh how cool!! 🫶
In October 2024 I brought a brand new Komodo 6k for $3500 hundred bucs. Considering the camera retail cost is $4,995, I had to buy it.
