I think the trailer looked good, and the concept sounds good - but it's Until Dawn in name only. It clearly has nothing to do with the game. I'm not sure that's a bad thing though because the story in the game wasn't very good and often didn't make sense - staying faithful to that story would make for a terrible movie. That said, this is still a Sony movie - so it's got at least an 80% chance of being terrible anyway.
They've shot themselves in the foot with this one, why call it Until Dawn if it's not going to involve ANYTHING from the actual game. That's like if The Last of Us tv show had nothing to do with Joel and Ellie, and made it about an alien invasion
especially since it’s from the person that wrote The Nun and Annabelle (2014)💀 him being one of the writers already puts this at my least anticipated movies
Why call it until dawn if it's nothing like the original game. Not even the atmosphere is the same. "It's set in the same universe" so call it something else. The title is very misleading.
No winter. No cabin. No wendigos..... this ain't until dawn! If it's a part of the universe then call it a different name then "a dark pictures anthology film"
I dunno why they chose to use ‘until dawn’ as the title when this isn’t what the first game is even about or set in?? Coz This really should be a tv show called ‘The Dark Pictures Anthology’ or a play on that coz that’s what its little series is called… so you could do an anthology show that adapts the games then also does original stories too in its season
I believe in the game the characters don't come back alive, you can just go back to the "save" point and try something different. The dying is part of the game, and retrying a new option.
For what it's worth, I've noticed that you're putting your ad reads closer to the end of the discussion instead of in the middle. I think this is a considerable improvement, doesn't break up the flow of conversations.
the Until dawn video game is incredible on its own, but the way the describing the spin of this movie version could be crazy if executed well!!!! Sounds like some type of cabin in the woods meets groundhog day mash up "Every time you die you wake up in a different horror genre, if you can survive without dying until dawn" 🔥 that's hard
John's very familiar with the game, but hasn't played the game. 🧢 🧢 🧢 This wasn't at all a good discussion about either the game, adaptation or movie trailer. Just say that you don't know much about the game or the movie. Don't cover it. Period. Can I get my ten minutes back? Lol
I mean, haven't we seen a zombie movie before? haven't we seen a heist movie before? its all in how its executed that determines whether it works or not.
It got my curiosity the reason I was a little hesitated at first because they mentioned there wasn't going to be windigo in the movie but if the characters going to go through other horror genres it sounds fun.
I’m excited to see Peter Stormare come back for this. I’m interested to see how they use his character or if he takes on a different role from the game. He definitely added a little creepiness to the experience.
It's confirmed that he plays a different role and that the movie is nothing like the game. It's a completely different story with different characters.
Until Dawn as a film will not work, because it’s entirely player immersive. Take that away, and do the choose your own adventure thing that Netflix has done in the past, and it’s just not the same.
Yeah those games made into movies will always be a step down from the games due to the immersion. However I think the Until Dawn games story and mystery is good enough to work as a good movie. Sadly they're not adapting the games story.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Until Dawn game, I did. But in the season of great video-game adaptations, with all of the success they've had, this is the one you gotta adapt? We still don't have Bioshock, Control, Gears of War, God of War, Splinter Cell, but you just had to make an Until Dawn movie??? AND THEN you don't even make it like the actual game? Wth is going on here🤨
He's going to tell us he's a fan of the game lying through his teeth and presenting this as film he can take this film and find somewhere creative to shove it
@ I wouldn’t have mind if it was another folklore creature like skin walker, jersey devil, yeti. Having just a killer and you comeback to life that’s nothing like the game. You have to complete whole game to make and play it again for a way to change outcomes. So loosely based on the game, was excited for this film like 11/10 but man this dropped to a 2/10
Damn netflix.. this was the actually movie to use that choose your own path idea. Make sense and fit will bc of the video game duh. This should been that/ seasons or series.
This movie is insulting because it gets completely rid of the idea of a faithful adaptation for the foreseaable future, and that is kinda messed up for fans that wanted to see something resembling the IP lol. Besides, it looks visually worse than the game. The game's cold blue tinted aesthetic was atmospheric and still holds up. This looks like a normal horror movie. They didn't even bother getting the visuals right. The groundhog day mechanic is meant to give out a videogamey feel, but until dawn is one of the few modern story based games where each character's death is permanent in order to raise stakes. They picked the worst possible game to pull that gimmick with. Sure, a big part of why people like Until Dawn are the choices, but people remember the wendigos because those were genuinely a good twist to what seemed like a normal slasher. People remember Rami Malek as Josh because his arc is genuinely decently written. I fail to see who this movie is for. The fans won't see something that has zero to do with the game, and the general audience has heard about happy death day.
Wow what a hate train for a trailer's trailer. This movie gonna move the overall story of until dawn forward maybe its gonna be a link for the (maybe) upcoming second game. Everyone scream, there is no wendigos... Realy? You see the movie? Wait for the full trailer... Its gonna be mindblowing, trust me 😉
The producers confirmed that this is a completely different story with a whole new set of characters. The criticism is simple. Don't call a movie Until Dawn if the movie is going to be nothing like the original story.
I’m sorry, but if there’s no snow, no mountain lodge, and no Wendigos, then it’s not Until Dawn.
Honestly, this sounds like they took the name of Until Dawn for audience connection but will not use the plot of the game
I think the trailer looked good, and the concept sounds good - but it's Until Dawn in name only. It clearly has nothing to do with the game. @ryhanon7 totally agree. You put into better words what I was thinking
It's nothing like the game. This is a script someone wrote and they needed to attach an IP to sell it.
They've shot themselves in the foot with this one, why call it Until Dawn if it's not going to involve ANYTHING from the actual game. That's like if The Last of Us tv show had nothing to do with Joel and Ellie, and made it about an alien invasion
A nu start, probably cause they cant afford Remi Malek
@@BobbyTheDogGuy it could of been a different story set back in time or after the events of the game. Doesn’t have to be the original cast.
I have faith in the director but not in the writers.
especially since it’s from the person that wrote The Nun and Annabelle (2014)💀 him being one of the writers already puts this at my least anticipated movies
@ That’s not good. Hopefully the direction and idea makes it at least a mediocre film.
Why call it until dawn if it's nothing like the original game. Not even the atmosphere is the same.

Right and it’s why I believe this is not even an until Don adaptation instead is a different movie entirely that just took the name
I like this concept as it is separate that redoing a Night is a different genre and not the SAME day
John's understanding of the game is actually a lot more interesting than what the game really is
For what it's worth, I've noticed that you're putting your ad reads closer to the end of the discussion instead of in the middle. I think this is a considerable improvement, doesn't break up the flow of conversations.
If Until Dawn is gonna be anything it shouldnt be a movie. It should be a show with 8 Hour long episodes.
Well, it doesn't sound like the game cause in the game they don't just come back over & over again.
the Until dawn video game is incredible on its own, but the way the describing the spin of this movie version could be crazy if executed well!!!! Sounds like some type of cabin in the woods meets groundhog day mash up

It must be an out of season April Fools joke.
Do you guys not have phones?

Very loosely based on the game
It seems they kept 10 percent of the actual game story and it looks nor feels NOTHING like the game
10?
I'd say that's very generous.
It would be cool it it has different endings in different movie theaters

That's why they aren't adapting the game. This looks very different. Not set in the Rockies, not involving Wendigos, and having a reset time thing...
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Until Dawn game, I did. But in the season of great video-game adaptations, with all of the success they've had, this is the one you gotta adapt? Was excited but after seeing that’s it’s just a masked killer fuck no. I wanted the wendigo.
I think the killer is just one of the"nights"
@ I wouldn’t have mind if it was another folklore creature like skin walker, jersey devil, yeti. Having just a killer and you comeback to life that’s nothing like the game. The game & the movie also have blood thirsty creatures-not just a masked killer.

I think this could be a good horror movie, but a bad Until Dawn movie. It looks nothing like the game in my opinion.
It looks interesting, doesn’t really look like until dawn though
I hope we the movie audience can play the film
Needs to be written really well also Remi Malek was in the game
It looks intriguing
It is interesting, I'll be honest there. I'll give it a watch and see where it goes.
Speaking of horror, should we hear your thoughts on the recent disturbing Vulture news post about Neil Gaiman and the allegations?
I’m wondering if they will build off of this and do an adaptation of, “The Dark Picture Anthology”, depending upon if this film does well of course?
might as well have just made an actual adaption of the game and its story, not some rando 'continuation'. Rubbish.
