the buildings and environment look good, but there's something about the player models that doesn't quite match... they look more cartoony than the original games.

Kind of like how Empire Earth did. You'll notice the games degraded in quality and ratings as they progressed further into the cartoony and cheaply made third Empire Earth.

1. The arrows certainly need to be scaled down with some curvature in trajectory.
2. Catapult needs crews, not much, just two dudes operating them, it certainly needs to be there.
3. Need blood & skeletons of dead units to be around longer (Like AOE1& RoR 1997/98)(Can be made as optional toggles).
4. Will be really nice if the buildings lose some pieces every time they are bombarded or attacked (Like AOE3) and like AOE3 the animation should not be pre-rendered.
5. Somebody please copy & paste this at AOE4 forums where the developers are present & active.

@@Blazingwheel Even with this graphics it's gonna drop the fps in most of the computers, these games with hundreds of npcs doesn't work well in 3D. You can already see the low fps in this trailer.

The buildings look great, but the units ... well ... look better in Age 2
This. Everything looks clunky, especially from this zoomed in position. It fells like Mythology back in the day. Plus the units still moving awkwardly what gives you that "uncanny valley" kind of effect using these modern graphics.
I would say that Age 2 DE looks better in every way...
I don't see this as much of an upgrade from Age 3 original in graphics. Sure, higher poly models, higher texture resolution, but the shading and animations - nah bruh.
they’re doing the same fuckup that warcraft reforged did. The faction colors need to be at 100% saturation. Always.
Nothing looks better than it does in Age of Empires: Rise of Rome. In AOE2 the buildings are ridiculously huge and the units aren't even noticeable unlike in the expansion to AOE1.

I really do believe if there are enough complaints or criticisms they will polish these things up. I'm just so grateful for its release being around the corner. AOE3 had some pretty good animations and that came out in 2005?

TBH, for the AoE-IV I was expecting much more populated battles, even if we don't need to be so close to the action (e.g. more rendering for the machine). I feel kinda bummed.
Same here. Like I don’t want it to be Total War levels but all of these battles look like tiny little skirmishes. The fact that it only seems to be 1v1 as well disappoints me. I want alliances that can benefit you or be broken when you attack an ally and to be able to have massive battles between multiple warring factions.
This looks so outdated that Starcraft 2 looks up to date next to it. Whats with the mobile game physics and look? Total disapointment so far, but hey, at least we have some Stronghold elements.
Almost 12 years since StarCraft 2 and it's look/feel better than this.

I love that they introduced real special abilities to each nation. Like Mongols can take their buildings with them, just like they did irl and still do (not all, but still many).
I hope every nomadic tribes will have that packing and unpacking skills, not just the mongols

You can probably have large armies but they didn't wanna show the lag. Makes sense. And if you cannot have large armies like age 2...........then this game will Def fail and I'll go back to age 2. They did show semi large battle in the end of the trailer. I want 2 things that made age 2 fun for me. Large army clashing, and multi layered walls. I love my walls and layering them loll with cannons 🤣😂

Even aoe 2 DE lags in 4 vs 4. Imagine having high detailed units in this. Besides I think this kinda art styles sells more in the current market.

I'm excited for this game but the graphics are disappointing. Looks very dated and too cartoonish. so far it looks like it won't have the same replay value as AOE2. Hopefully they allow mods so we can at least throw some textures on there.

Somehow it looks like an unholy mixture of AoE III, AoM and Stronghold, I highly doubt that it'll ever reach the popularity of AoE II.

I was hoping the combat elements would introduce some more historical elements of combat and more exciting castle building or base layout mechanics which would make the game feel more historically accurate while still retaining an RTS rock-paper-scissors balance. Instead, 20 years later, horsemen still just slapping stone walls with their swords.
bombarding damage does more damage than melee damage I think.

Man this minimalism in these games' UIs seriously needs to stop!
Looking forward to this. Though, it's a bit bright and cartoony. And projectiles, arrows and such need some work; they travel perfectly straight and then disappear. I think it's mostly because the entire arrow appears white, if they made the tips darker maybe that would draw attention away from the pathing.
In competitive rts you need to be able to recognize each type of units in the battlefield and to micro it. It looks ok in that perspective.
I spent countless hours of my youth playing the games
And as much as I respect the franchise and have some great memories with it, I feel that this continuation of the series it's 12 years late.
Finally.... an RTS!!!!! About time they brought them back!
