I have a lot of respect for these kinds of Beginner beginner guides. Real time strategy games are very satifying but guidence is needed to grow in them beyond beginner, At least more so then other genres.
yup, back before the days of youtube, i would never have been able to get good at starcraft broodwar like i did had it not been for alot of other ppl. And sure if ur serious about being good, u can pick up alot by playing and watching others, but still, to have others actually explain things to you and stuff like that is much more helpful.
just take it one civ at a time, and start out with an easy civ such as English, French, or Order of the Dragon / Holy Roman Empire. Def dont try to jump right into Chinese or something
Thank you for making such helpful content. Your work is essential to the growth of this game and I’m saving this video to teach my little one aoe4 someday :)
BEST beginner's guide for aoe4! Even if you know most of what's explained in this video, it's worth watching just for all the gorgeous scenery and camera angles we rarely get to see while playing this super fun game ***** 5 STAR *****
I feel you bro. I always try to enjoy the lush scenery and beautiful graphics, but the required amount of focus on gameplay simply doesn't allow me to.
such a beautifully crafted video. Great information for beginners. I like the message as well. After all it’s about enjoying the game and get entertained. Thank you
Great vid! Maybe small addition is to start with a campaign and get a feeling of how it all works. Then hop in a skirmish ai game before starting online play
bro its like you did this video specially for me i bought the game 3 days ago i am a big lover of warcraft 3 and i instantly got inlove with this game but it seem alot more complex then warcraft so i didnt even tryed it out , and now i search and find a guide with 2 days only ! im going straight to the game i will choose a random civilization and i will apply everything i learned here , i will go with bots on hard because im a menace so wish me luck ! and tyvm for the guide
When i was a kid i played age of empires 1 just for the city building stuff, the buildings for this game looks amazing , i probably will buy it just for the looks
This reminds me of Game of War except you don’t have to pay to win. Great video and I’m glad to come across this game. Blew thousands on that franchise and I’m over it.
How does he make those cinematics? Is he using custom maps with free camera? Because the visuals look way better than vanilla game (it looks almost like AoE3DE)
Im just a begginer rigth now bro BUT ican say with no fear, that your channel is pue gold :,3 the way you present the game is so beautyful and calm... I have no words bro, THANK YOU, i hope you keep uloading some videos from time to time :,) regards.
Fantastic video for everyone than is starting in the game, but at every second I was watching the video I was thinking, Wow the frames look beatiful. Thanks for your content and work for this comunity no mater were you come from you are welcome, the main message of every video for every creator no matter the language, English, Spanish or Japanese, Greetins from Costa Rica and happy new year!!!
just in time, nice video i got hooked after just getting the pc game pass, i was craving for something similar to red alert 2 from back in the day, even tho the mediaeval style it's not that interesting for me, the game is good enaugh that keeps me playing. cheers from Mexico new subscriber
Longtime RTS player back In high school (RA2, AOE2, BFME, early Total Wars, etc) It’s been almost 2 decades, but I’m getting back into the genre with BAR and AOE4. Any other good recommendations for multiplayer RTS? SC2 still looks like it has the higher skill floor.
For execution, pretty sure SC2 is still king. AoE2 and AoE4, however, have a lot more strategy. It depends on what type of game you enjoy. The monotonous nature of SC2 (very few factions and mirrored maps) is not apealing to me.
For those who are coming from AoE2, AoM, AoE3 starting with the French or English is the best start. Other civs like Mongol, Rus and especially Byzantines are not good to start with.
Have just bought the game with expansion and started with the campaign. Would you recommend playing through it first or just jumping in against AI and players?
Just by 2 cents, but I'd recommend jumping right into Vs ai on easy and seeing how it feels. If you're a history buff, definitely try the campaigns, but as for getting a feel of the game, once you've got the basics, Vs the ai is a good place to get competent, especially if your raise the difficulty frequently. Humans are much better opponents than AI but they can be daunting to play against. I rarely play Vs humans with my friend as an ally lol.
This may be a silly question, but what I'd like to know is is 1-4 cumulative, like does 4 have everything that 3 does? Is there a difference in more than things like improved graphics? Is 4 an upgrade for 3 or are they functionally separate games?
All Age of Empires games are fundamentally different in the way they play. I suggest you look at some gameplay across the games and decide which one you like the most. AoE2 & AoE4 are the most played and popular of the franchise, and they're both set around the Feudal Ages. :)
When I click on the trade button with a trader, and then try to click on an allies market, it says "cannot use this ability on this target" Right clicking on the market doesn't work either. My trader will just walk to the market and then go idle. How do you actually make them collect gold and return home?
I wish the next Age of empires game had a voice command and custom naming groups so that we can have commands like villagers in group 1 go to where i click , pikes and swords attack the frontline archers stay behind and attack the enemy archers you see after that attack the pikes and swords of the enemies
At last, a guide so I can finally last more than 8 minutes in game without alt-f4ing( idk what the build orders are and the meta still confuses me) Update: After practicing against the computer for a while and inspired by Faye-chain’s build orders I’ve finally got the hang of it. It’s such a blast to play with the Byzantines’ aqueducts and I’m happy I got to play as my favorite empire of all
Don't worry about metas, just find a civ you are comfortable with, a unit you like, try to find an easy to follow build order and that's it. For beginners, if you can just stablish units on the map, more often than not you will win, and if you don't, just try again.
I've found that the AOE discord community has people good about helping with coaching and practise. This all being said the previous comment makes sense too, Ultimately the joy of the game is the best thing to pursue both in terms of the best use of your leisure, and because as it so happens it'll make you stronger at the game. Or another option can be to practise build orders via a series of lightning rounds against a computer, resetting the match every time a mistake is made.
@@jeffgodoy8676 that’s what really turns me off from aoe4 since being able to advance ages while producing vills and the economy being somewhat less “micromanagy” than aoe2 ends up feeling less uninvolved and then I end up out of the gameplay loop.
Is there an expert that can fix my AGe 4 graphics? I have a 3060 and all my grass and fields etc. look really grainy, which is very distracting from the gameplay and even hurts my eyes. I would love to play Age 4, but with this grainy grass and fields, it's almost unplayable. I have all settings set to maximum. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make the graphics look as good as they do in most UA-cam videos?
You're likely playing custom games where the population limit is set higher than the typical 200. Regardless, in any game where other players can get to said population numbers, you can too.
