With Purdue our defense just gave up midway through the 3rd.

It's insane how much West Virginia imploded in 2012. Win the Orange Bowl 70-33, started their inaugural Big 12 season with record setting points and offense, only for it to all start crashing down in Lubbock. Kansas State beat them 55-14 AT HOME the following week.

And Oklahoma still got into the bcs champ game to lose to LSU instead of usc. Hell Nebraska also got in after that colorado spanking in 2001 cause Tenn lost in the sec champ game.

It's not just football. In the 2021 NCAA Basketball tournament, their 15-seed opponent had peculiarly dark-colored jerseys. Any basketball fan can tell you how that game ended.

2012 was a pretty chaotic year for the rankings, not quite on the level of 2007 but still... Collin Klein and KSU were definitely NOT the #1 team in NCAA FBS, but they were a solid 8-12 ranked team still, kind of a fun team to watch.

Man that Purdue game was fun to watch as a Purdue son and a Michigan brother (I’m a Georgia alumnus).
When I saw Kansas State being defeated by Baylor, it just brought back some awful memories for me. Just like 1998 Big 12 Championship game when Kansas State lost to Texas A&M. Two blown opportunities to make the National Championship which they have never made to before.
Kansas St losing to Baylor was not only an example of an undefeated number one team looking ahead to bowl season, but it also decimated that football program. They never recovered from that loss and could never get the big recruits that would return them to being a top team.

I'm FCS all day but most programs games from as early as 2010 aren't recorded OR can't be found. I wish though.

Here's one to add: 1997 Penn State, ranked #4 and had a good chance at a bowl alliance game (was ranked #1 all year until losing to Michigan 34-8 on "Judgement Day") but instead unranked Michigan State won 49-14 after a close first half. As a Penn State fan, that game was frustrating and I still have no idea how that happened.

joe random blew out 2 top 5 teams and beat Florida State in the NY6 bowl big the year prior. They show up against the lesser AAC teams, they go to the playoff
PEople complain that there should be more G of 5 teams, yet the times they have a better schedule and good out of conference wins, they drop games to bad teams in their conference.
And this is because your conference opponents know you better than non con
1990...unranked Northern Illinois 73, #24 Fresno State 18. Our quarterback ran for 5 touchdowns in that game. We ran the wishbone that season. 😊

What sucks is from 2007 to around 2014, West Virginia was constantly in the hunt. It always came down to one game to ruin it for y’all. Even as an LSU fan, I was always rooting for WVU to break through.

As a WVU Fan, seeing the Texas Tech one really hurts still to this day. And ECU. That was inexcusable.
Still makes me emotional watching highlights of that Purdue game and thinking about Tyler Trent. As a Boilermaker that is one of my favorite memories of 2018.
2019 Holiday Bowl Iowa vs USC
Iowa had the higher ranking, and the game was close till 3rd quarter.
Poor USC fans (and TV/radio commentators) kept blaming USC, coaching, players, etc.
Never could praise Iowa defense, special teams, or tight-end focused offense picking apart USC secondary.

The Pick 6, whilst playing at home in a tight game, has got to be the most exciting play in Football. It's such a change in momentum/emotion. We were in Waco, 2019, for Baylor v OU...it was late in the 1st half when Baylor got a huge Pick right on the OU sideline, which is in front of the Baylor Student section, were were in the End-zone so the play came right at us...that Student section going crazy was awesome...AND I'm a OU guy.
6:00 if there was ever a perfect scenario for a 4 team playoff it was in 2001. Unfortunately, we still had the 1 vs. 2 bowl system and not only did Colorado get passed over by the Nebraska team they had just blown out, so did Oregon.

That Florida win was the high water mark of the Barry Odom era, and nothing else his teams did came close.

Neal Brown was an offensive coordinator or QB coach (can't remember which) at Texas Tech in 2012 (the year they blew out WVU), & the QB for Texas Tech was Seth Doege. Now in 2020, Neal Brown is the head coach at WVU & the starting QB is Jarret Doege, Seth's little brother.

My mother and I have been college football fans for our whole lives. She grew up watching it since her childhood, and we watched the games together throughout my childhood. Though she and I are both fans of the University of Virginia (yes, they aren't exactly a football school, but both she and I attended there), we would religiously watch nearly every game, every Saturday, for my whole life. We are both fans of college football in general.
She and I have seen many of these games live, and this video reminds me of a saying she always says: "Any team can beat any team on any given day". Regardless of who you are playing, you have to always expect the unexpected, believe the hype, do your job, and ignore the rankings.
This video shows what can happen to any team on any day.

People love watching us get beat for some reason. No clue why. I mean.... It took the refs for Clemson to beat us last year. Without the bad calls, wed have won like 45-14 but taking 3 touchdowns from us and keeping their drives alive with bad calls (targeting) was the huge momentum shift that kept us out. Plus Fields just got greedy with his last throw of the game. He had an open receiver maybe 15-20 yards down the field, but jumped to Olave too quick to watch his route develope. Had he waited another second (he had the pocket time) he wouldve seen Olave break left where there was no one, instead of right where there were 3 defenders. Some small mistakes, but those usually add up to the biggest effect. Yeah, we gave up huge chunks on the 94 yard drive for Clemson, but the refs made sure Clemson won that game. We played better than they did all night.

Looking back at these and seeing the nfl talent on these teams
As an OSU fan.. I know we got the brakes beat off us in those two games. However.. it’s insanely hard to win on the road and at night in any P5 but it’s especially difficult in the B10. The Iowa game was the perfect trap game for us. We were entirely over looking Iowa but they were coming off a big win the week before and they still had a shot at saving their season somewhat. Then the Purdue game despite what the scores says.. was a very close game but A.. Purdue was playing for a kid with cancer that was a life long fan and B.. it was just one of those rare games for OSU where nothing went right. Despite the turnovers, we moved the ball at will but our wide outs just had bananas for hands.. dropped FOUR balls in the end zone on separate drives and that kinda thing never happens to OSU. Our defense was also uncharacteristically shit that year and we had a big play weakness all year and Purdue was swinging for the fence all night. Furthermore.. Ohio State in terms of wins has been the most consistent and successful team going back 50 years but ESPECIALLY in the last 20. It’s maybe happened once or twice in the last 10 years where a B10 team has had a class with more than one win against OSU but most classes don’t get any. So, every B10 game is like a bowl game for us and the other team gives us their best shot to try and beat us and make us stumble. Most games we come prepared and still take care of business but it’s pretty much impossible to be perfect every week year in and year out. So, we’re bound to stumble here and there just like every other program. But.. we tend to stumble less often :-)

The 2004 Wisconsin vs. Michigan State game. God, I was hoping you wouldn't have that on here.
It makes some sense in retrospect. Barry got too aggressive on the goal line twice, passing up two close field goals for failed 4th down attempts, and Michigan State turned them *both* into 99 yard touchdown drives. The wheels fell off that team hard.
They should just title this Ohio st getting blow out by crappier teams

Yeah thanks for reminding me of those two OSU games. The Purdue one was the worst but I wasn’t as surprised when Iowa beat OSU. Iowa over the years has proven to be a challenge for the Buckeyes.
