Speaking of stunned crowd. The michigan st vs michigan game where michigans punter dropped the ball and msu recovered and ran for the game winning td. Michigan state scored in the endzone i was sitting in and as a michigan season ticketholder, I can tell you the crowd was in complete shock and silence. It was bad.
I was at the 1998 game in Columbus when mich st beat the #1 Buckeyes. Never heard the shoe that deflated.

Fucking Ruffin McNeill had some of the worst time management in the last 2 minutes of that game I have ever seen. Why in the hell are you in the victory formation when the other team would still have enough time left on offense? Was just unfathomable to me.

my favorite thing watching a football game is when the ref comes out and says, we saw on the video replay where the ball was spiked with time on the clock and the crowd boos them as if they are making a bad call.
I have never heard a man be as done with something as Verne Lundquist was with LSU.
As an LSU Fan, I was about ready to jump out my window at the end of that game. Les Miles was a very good coach win-rate wise at LSU, but every game that wasn't an obvious blowout felt like a completely unnecessary emotional roller-coaster.
That's my favorite thing about that sequence, how upset the announcers are at LSU. I'm not sure I've ever heard neutral announcers get that mad at a team.

I was at that game (UT-North Carolina) at the Music City Bowl in Nashville. Brutal. Hated it so much. They literally were getting a stage set up and were saying “we present to you the 2010 Music City Bowl Champions-“ and the mic went out.

I mean Breshad Perriman was one of the fastest players in college in 2014, so I mean it could have been an over throw and they just didn't realize that covering the fastest receiver meant having to hit the ball Down😂😂

@9:34, I was at that LSU/Ole Miss game, sitting in the end zone bleachers, facing the play. I've heard the term "stunned silence", but this was the first time I ever witnessed it. As an Old Miss fan, I was elated. There were dozens of LSU supporters around me and none of them said a word for a solid 20 seconds. Then they erupted with "WTF were you thinking LES?"

7:30 - I went to USU and watched this game live. That was such a swing of emotions, from a heartbreaking loss during one of USUs best seasons ever (ranked #14 in the AP poll at the time) to a win via offensive penalty.
I am pretty sure that game took 5 years off my life. Go Aggies.
I too, am a USU fan (I actually have a USU shirt on as we speak😂), and I just sat there on my couch in disbelief that USU could allow such a stupid play to happen. But at the same time, I wasn't *too* surprised, because let's face it. USU loses heartbreakers like this all time😂. And then the ref came out and made that call and me and my family were like, "You have got to be kidding." In fact, I didn't even care😂. I was just like, "Y'know what. Colorado State can have the win. I'm done😂."

I was at the BYU @ Washington game in 2008. UW went 0-12 that season, and I feel pretty confident saying this game was one of the main culprits. That and all the injuries.
Oh...and UW's head coach was Tyrone Willigham. That probably played the biggest part.
That penalty was pretty weak though
I remember that game. Greg Wrubel (BYU's broadcaster) thought the excessive celebration penalty was pretty weak.

You know you're team got screwed when the NCAA creates a rule that prevents anyone from losing in that same way again (referring to the UT-UNC finish and the 10 second runoff rule)

I wouldn’t say UT got screwed since the refs were following the letter of the law at the time. What really screwed y’all was the poor play calling that led to y’all to be in that position, and a unnecessary personal foul penalty that helped give Carolina an extra 15 yards.

That play in Duke vs Miami (at 11:24), with 6 seconds left on the clock, actually took 49 seconds. Crazy.
Even crazier to me is that the refs didn't consider the blatant block in the back (at 11:57) by Miami's # 22 as illegal.

Foster Rapping I was 7 at the time too, and I remember the LSU loss and the NC loss to this day. Those were always in the top 5 for me for most heartbreaking losses as a Tennessee fan.

My favorite part about the Iowa-UNI game is that it was the start of an 11 win season and an orange bowl victory. Easily one of the craziest seasons for a football team.
Awesome compilation! I watched that Bama-Auburn game. All of Bama had left the field for halftime and they had to come back because Auburn argued for one second more of play. They got the time, kicked a FG, and Saban went ballistic. Then Bama got that illegal substitution call at the end - I love it!!!

I know I am a Bama fan so this might come off as biased but doesn't illegal substitution on the defense not get called until the ball is snapped because if so then Auburn would have to snap the ball for that penalty to be called
11:24 - To me, there are two baffling things about this game regarding the ACC statement. The first is that the ACC could have mentioned they were suspending the referees due to multiple errors throughout the game, including the ending. The second is this part of the statement:
"The ACC also said that the officials should have called an illegal block during the return back at Miami’s 16-yard line, which would have given the Hurricanes an untimed down at their own 8-yard line."
How does the offense gain an untimed down when they committed the penalty? It doesn't make any sense.
I wonder why it wouldn’t be an offensive penalty/game over? Maybe kickoffs/punts are excepted?
The biggest miss was the player on the sidelines literally entering the field of play DURING THE PLAY and running the last twenty yards with the ball carrier WHILE HOLDING HIS HELMET IN HIS HANDS! Worst no call I have ever seen in my life. AND they had REPLAY!
To answer your question 2 years later, I think they get an untimed down, because Duke would accept the penalty. Normally, the leading team will decline the penalty at the end of the game, resulting in game over, but in this case declining the penalty means Miami gets a touchdown.
The kicking team would have needed to accept the penalty to negate the score. The game is extended for an untimed down if a penalty is accepted for any live ball foul unless it includes a loss of down.
I’m not even a Duke fan but nothing in college football history makes me cringe more than that play.

The Minnesota-Michigan game was some of the worst coaching I've ever seen in person, not too surprising given it was an interim's first game.
Recommendation: 2013 Michigan vs. Northwestern. Michigan has to run onto the field to kick a tying fg as the clock expires to go to OT. NW literally could've ran out the clock by subbing too, but chose not to, so bizarre

The field goal by Michigan was the best bit of coaching that Brady Hoke ever had. Perfectly executed. I was shocked they were able to get it off cleanly. I watched it dozens of times. Everyone was set.
There was a stretch there from 2012 to 2014 where Michigan and Northwestern played 3 of just the most bizarre games I've ever seen

It’s crazy to think how that one bad call with the officials starting the clock prematurely for LSU/Auburn eventually led to LSU winning the natty
They didn't start the clock prematurely. And not only did LSU not get the snap off in time, they had several men in motion at the snap. The fact that the play was even momentarily ruled a touchdown (and it was more than "momentarily;" I was there and it felt like a lifetime) was the biggest travesty. (Though an LSU fan near me did say "Well, the good news is we get to get rid of our coach, and you're stuck with yours." He wasn't wrong on either count.)

Warren Holloway's winning Hail Mary TD catch from Drew Tate for Iowa on the last play of the game against LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl. Holloway was a senior and that was his first, and last, TD of his entire career. I remember watching it on my couch with my father.

The "pissing dog" end zone display was undoubtedly crass & deserved a penalty, but I am bewildered by practically all other celebration penalties. That last clip was especially stupid. They're college kids, let 'em have a little fun!
I understand that they were 1/2 a yard away from the end zone, but why would Minnesota not just kick the field goal to send it to OT? You were at home, and overtime tends to favor the home team
The frustrating thing about college sometimes is that coaches take completely unnecessary risks. Just take the OT when you have the ball like that and less than 10s left, all kinds of bad things can happen if you rush a play in that situation.
It was Halloween and their first game after Jerry Kill quit, they wanted to go for the win. The execution was...lacking

1:25-2:04 What a great memory for an Auburn Tiger. The Tigers win between the hedges in dramatic fashion with freshman Carnell Williams having 40+ carries in this game. I was a sophomore in high school during the 2001 season, and before the ball was snapped on that final play, my mind quickly went back to the 1992 Auburn-Georgia game. This memory is somewhat grey as I was only 6 yrs old, but I remember Auburn having the ball on the goal line with very little time in the game, down 14 to 10, and the qb Stan White fumbled the snap. Although the Tigers recovered the ball, the Georgia D-line all piled on the qb and refused to get up. By the time they did get up, Auburn quickly ran to the line to try to get off another snap, but the clock expired, preserving the (controversial) victory for Georgia. I remember a lot of people hanging out in the stands for what seemed like forever, thinking (and wishing and hoping) for the refs to call a penalty or something, which never happened.
I wasn't alive for either as I was born in 05 but have heard many a story about those two games from my father.
Some of these plays made me scream, “WTF ARE THEY DOING!?”

I watched the FSU-GT game live on TV. Being an arrogant teenager, I had my parents pause the game to I could record that field goal, because I was so confident that he would make it. That clip was on my phone for months, and that moment was burnt into my head

I’m a Miami fan...they reviewed it for soo long I’m literally having enough time to get to know other Cnaes fans lmaoo when the review came back in our favor we went into a frenzy. We stayed like a whole hour after the game in our section. As I walked out Duke fans were in actual tears 😂 beat Halloween of my life 😎
I’ve seen still images of that play & the player # 1 was DOWN before he lateraled the ball!! Duke got screwed! I’m from Minnesota so ultimately I don’t care, glad it went your way though!
@@12bravo57 what’s crazy is the drive before that play there were 3 pass interference calls (2 were horrible) AND the QB sneak was clearly short of the goal line. The refs set up their entire drive before that play. Officiating was so bad that entire game the refs were actually suspended
Yeah, Duke was screwed by two missed calls on that one play (some argue there was another, but that one was harder to see.) The refs were suspended because of that play, not because of the entire game. I think the third play was 11 men on the field, which I can see from this video.

I was at that one (and two of those in this video) and yeah, I thought that one was over three times before it finally was. (Four times, if you count being over-confident when Auburn took a 14-point lead with 7 minutes to play. Five times, if you count me being sure that Northwestern's FG at the end of regulation (following the fumbled KO after NW had tied the game with about a minute to go with a TD and 2-point conversion that they had to have after missing the XP following their previous TD; you're right, that game was NUTS) was good.

The rule may have been one almost everyone disagrees with, but unfortunately some of the few who do agree with it were the ones in charge of setting the rules.
"After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot. This prohibits:
•Spiking the ball to the ground
•Throwing the ball high into the air"

Mark Richt not calling for a spike near the goal line with 16 seconds left and ending up losing the game in 2001… boy history does repeat itself. That hurt to know it happened before and he still didn’t learn from it😩

I totally forgot about that UCF/ECU game! I remember watching it live and I think it was on a weeknight or something, so it was the only bit of football on. I was half-tuned in and was thrilled to have seen that shocker of an ending by absolute chance.

2. Again, if you've done this video, ignore it, but a streak-snapping video would be cool. Some examples: Navy over Notre Dame in 2007, Temple over Penn State in 2015, UVA over VPI in 2019, Minnesota over Wisconsin in 2018, Washington over Oregon in 2016, etc.

I had a game like this in high school. We were on the 1 yard line with 15 seconds left (clock was running) down 13 to 7. We had our next play ready and would have gotten it off easily. The ref went to spot the ball but dropped it. A kid from the other team went to "help" pick the ball up but "accidentally" rolled it out of the back of the endzone. We were lined up and ready for the ball to be spotted for ten seconds but time ran out. We were sure we would get an untimed down given the fuckery that just occurred. The refs confered for about 30 seconds, called the game, and ran off the field. Bullshit.
I once played in a baseball game where my team was no hitting the other team and their pitcher had 21 strikeouts in 8 innings. He also had a no hitter going into the 7th (I broke up the perfect game in the 5th with a HBP to the head). Needless to say, there was no score. Umpires decided the game was a tie. That was a fun ride home.

@@vuhzz I forgot to mention the part where we had 30 minutes of game time left. In our league, we had two hours 30 minutes for each game. We finished the 8th just short of 2 hours. The league rules didn't explicitly state that we played until the time was up, but it was pretty suggestive that it should have. The guy in charge of the league later agreed that the game should have continued until time ran out. They changed the rules for the next season to explicitly say that. The part that still doesn't make sense to me is that the other team was arguing for the tie.

5:09 As an FSU fan, I will always despise Georgia Tech in some way because of this play. We were ranked 9th and had solid chances of competing for the playoff, that pretty much went down the drain when this happened. I honestly thought Roberto Aguayo would nail that, and then it got blocked and I was like, “Oh, great we’re going to overtime and then he took it back and I remember me going crazy and just jumping up and down and yelling I was so mad. Georgia Tech was literally 2-5 and while I won’t deny they played a great game, they had a lot of lucky plays. Like when one of our receivers bobbled the ball in the end zone and it got tipped and intercepted. I hope we rematch Georgia Tech just because I’m still mad about that play 5 years later mainly because after the 2016 season we haven’t had a season over 7 wins since and that was our best shot at getting to the playoff. I think it really messed with all the players and we ended up losing a close game to Clemson, then getting dominated by Houston in the Peach Bowl, so who knows what would have happened if fit wasn’t for that. I know that I’m whining I just really hate that play.
