Solid tune. aja is a masterpiece. one of the most underrated and over looked albums ever
It’s one of the most acclaimed albums ever
Cornelius Bumpus is the most sax player name i've ever heard
Best music band in the world. Nothing could ever hold a candle to Steely Dan.
Calm down cowboy
@@grant5603 LOL
the deadhead in me is gonna have to disagree... (and i got my name changed to Kid Charlemagne) Steely Dan will always be amazing in every since of the word though.
@@Da808Boii Hi guys! I see that got everyone's attention. Lol. But serously. SD was more than just amazing. They're in a class of their own.
Frankk did a good job, but yeah, Dan had it tight and funkty.
It took Becker and Fagen a year to finish "Aja" What a masterpiece
Thats all ?
It guess it took around 8 months, from December 1976 to July 1977, for the creation of Aja. An accomplishment that kinda stands out given the rapid pace of recording, for many classic albums, often completed in one or two days, a week, or on average a month. Fagen and Becker's commitment to crafting a masterpiece is evident in the meticulous testing and selection of every element, including production methods, equipment, and especially the players. They actively sought the right musicians for each song, spending hours testing and selecting until they found the perfect fit. Aja involved nearly 40 musicians in its recording, an extensive process described as "excessive" by many. Despite the extended timeline, I guess the final result paid off the hours and hours of work.
@@peopletakepicturesofeachother Becker and Fagen was/is a perfectionist. There is something to be said for demanding standards. Greatness isn't easy.
the best. this reminds me of my sister lois. she passed at 23. back in 1987. we'd listen to this over and over. so miss her the times the music
Lois looking down on you every time you play this track.
I was there! I still think Steely Dan is the greatest band ever. RIP Walter Becker. You guys got me through college, bad jobs, worse relationships and some pretty awesome times. 😁❤️
I was there as well. I’ve seen at least a dozen Dan shows. Rip Walter Becker and Cornelius Bumpus best bari ever!
same man...
I remember driving my 1978 TransAm with a Steely Dan 8 Track playing in it. Now I'm driving a 2020 Mustang GT with all their albums on a thumb drive.
@@AStanton1966 oh my!?
I thought you were about to brag about going from a Pontiac T/A to Hyundai Elantra. lol
// I drive a suburban 4X4 454
@@missingremote4388 I just traded the Mustang in for a Charger Scat Pack. The Hemi V-8's are going away after next year due to the EPA and Brandon. Let's Go Brandon!
So lucky to have this in my lifetime.
70s great albums.
Not catching Walter Becker while he was still on this planet with us was a mistake I’ll never recover from…. Love you Walter!
In the musical side pop culture between 1970 and 1980; when there were crossovers from almost every genre’….Steely Dan made one of the biggest and best defined statements for their “niche”. In that decade radio spewed out country rock, bubble gum, hard rock, progressive, TV show themes, folk, “ socially conscious” tunes…..semi-classical/orchestral tracks; all flavors.
Steely Dan didn’t change the world or even change the game.
But for 99% of the music of their active period - the “shelf life”…… the timelessness of their music stands up better now than all the Top Ten of that era. A sincere, non-delitante love of jazz and a perfectionist approach to recording quality combined to make their works totally listenable even today….45 years after “Aja”….
Thank you Donald Fagan...intelligence and talent in a world gone crazy
I'm glad to have been in a world and a time when this music was made
Well said, same here now that you mention it. My Aja-era teen life was magical.
RIP Walter and Cornelius. Making beautiful music in heaven!
Miss them. Legendary. Perfect.
Damn!!!! This is one of my favorite songs! Rarely have I heard a "live" version of any song that is so close to the studio version, but they did this!!!!! Man I like this!!!
The whole show is like that. They are unbelievable to see live. Gonna be hard to replace Becker in the next tour.
When we wanted to test a speakers sound you played the Dan. They were perfectionist.
My brother ran sound for a local band in Lansing Michigan in the 80s and 90s...he used the Aja album for that very purpose!!
Aja?
Best 'sound check CD' ?
Got my vote.
I've been testing mine for the last couple of months with SD. Couple of seventies big box 10" upgraded a few years ago. Stacked next to my desk, a couple of little C clamps holding the top one on.....LOL......Rock on!
+1
So outrageous
This brings back so many vivid memories of my mid-teens. We were driving around in my buddy's F150 4x4, blasting this album like 4-5 times through in one night. Good times and fabulous music. Shame Walter couldn't still be around. People will be DanHeads 100 yrs from now
Love the way the drummer counted them in! Steely Dan one of the GOAT! RIP Walter Becker!
Love me Steely Dan...music is so captivating.
Momma! Make em stop! Thank God every day for these guys! Absolutely amazing!
That was amazing in ‘77 when I was in HS…..timeless in 2024…..I have a steely Dan thumb drive with their whole discography plugged in my truck….😀
Cornelius Bumpus -- the man playing that sweet sax solo -- died just 6 months after this performance. He had a heart attack on a flight from New York to Los Angeles, where he was scheduled to perform. The plane made an emergency landing in Iowa, with an ambulance waiting for it on the runway, but Bumpus died a few minutes after landing. Just 58 years old. Gone far too soon but forever memorialized in his music. RIP.
WOW..thanks for the informational nugget. Dude was a musical Genius ❤
Backing vocals totally in sync!
Absolutely.
They had to be. Walter & Donald didn't screw around. If I was in the Steely Dan touring band I would be terrified of making a mistake.
It"s such an honor to live in a world with Donald Fagen.
Wow, Cornelius's sound. What a great tenor sax player!
Cornelius has the best tenor sax sound out there.
Keith Carlock on drums 🥁 as good as it gets
Saw him pretty close up with Larry Carlton a month ago and he was amazing. I didn’t even know that he was Steely Dan’s actual drummer until halfway through the show
One of my favorite albums
Fuck yeah! Bumpus is the man. Rip. I’ve seen Keith Carlock live 6 times and have never not been blown away by his performance!
Love all kinds of music but Steely Dan is the best.
What a class act! Carolyn radiates.
Carolyn Leonhart!!🤩
I got to see her absolutely WAIL at a concert in Ct.
She did a solo...killer.
don't ever think this is not a donald fagan production , he's got the controls to everything going on here and thank god for it , this is fucking live and hes like older than me and im almost 60 , so peace to you d. fagan you sure contributed greatly to my life soundtrack and i love you for it ok , t.davis
One of my all time favorite bands, ever!!!!!!!!!
Awesome Solo Cornelius
Is Steely Dan maybe the best band ever? EVER? !!
Smoothest sound around...including today
Ted Baker Is an Amazing Keyboard Player! Thanks for Posting : )
Best live version of Cow.
Pure musical genius.
RIP Corny and Walter
CB was amazing here and with the Doobie Brothers!!
Best live version.
what a sax solo!!!
Cornelius Bumpus (RIP)
@@jodygotyourgirlngone sorry to hear that, i have seen his some other videos with SD, really appreciate him RP.
@@milestonowhere He used to play with The Doobie Brothers as well, just an FYI....
@@jodygotyourgirlngone thanks, i know that M.MacDonald is from DB. who also a SD member from time to time i guess..
Agree 100%. One of the grooviest and tasteful sax solos I’ve ever heard. Love it when the trumpet player is grooving to it.
Man i love this jam
Best band EVER.
Cornelius Bumpus has always been my favorite of all the SD sax players.
Your so missed walter, rip.
Aja is a perfect crafted album.
With this iteration of the band I don't care what anybody says this was the best f****** band ever!
Feeling like I'm there - thank you for the experience! SD always takes me back to the Good Times!
Magnificent! A masterpiece!
Thanks for posting this. One of the tastiest songs ever produced.
What an incredibly handsome and intelligent man Donald is, I absolutely love him!
Awesome video! It really captures the whole group.
Great Album's in a Row.
Backup singers are awesome
What a Groove Tune.
Just a great great song!!
Corny's solo is finger lickin' good! (RIP)
Sure is, Jody.
Hi Jody.
You dang betcha. It’s the highlight of what’s already an incredible live rendition of this song.
The absolute best 👌
So very lucky to have had steely Dan in my life there music lives forever thank you All ❤
The comments on here tell me that this clip has just recently been (re) posted to youtube. I had the address for a slightly longer version of this exact performance (on the old one there is a few more seconds of Donald Fagen talking, after the song ends, he says "one album after this we did an album called Gaucho"). I was very disappointed when the old clip disappeared YEARS AGO. -- I LOVE this sax solo by Cornelius Bumpus. I think he is the greatest sax player ever and I think this is his best solo.
So glad to have this clip back again to listen to Cornelius whenever I really need a lift.
And of course, RIP Cornelius Bumpus. We all miss you!!
R.I.P. Walter Becker, Ricky Lawson too!
Wow…awesome!!!!!
I can listen to this song on a never ending loop.
Soooooo good
Adorabili!
Most musicians suck live.
These guys sound just as good as the album. Fantastic.
"BeBop Daddy," love it!
Not long discovered this tune... What a masterpiece!
As good as it gets 😍
My favorite on Aja.
A raree occasion where the live performance is actually slower than the original. It''s almost always the other way around for just about every band in the world.
🎶 The 1970's ... 😚👍
I have their box set 4 cds great band. RIP Walter Becker
Me too. Best music investment ever.
This Is LIT!
4:42 … The smile says it all!
My eyes well up when i listen to this and im 62 diggen it
He is So Outrageously awesome can't wait to see him in July in Jacksonville Florida!!!
Cool n groovy 👽👽👺👺👽🌹🌹
Pure bliss.
Side 1, Track 1 on arguably on of the greatest LP’s ever made
Wonderful.
Jim Pugh on trombone - the only one to ever convince Donald Fagan he should have a trombone in his band :-) Cornelius Bumpus - who could match that easy laid back sound????
Smoooooooooth
wow.
Donald Killin the keytar!
RIP Jim Beard
This Steely Dan seems like a talented bunch of musicians. If they keep practicing, I can see them go far.
Black Cow was a chocolate drink , the alternative to Yohoo!!
❤️
Here's the brains of the two ! Everybody knew this also .sad he s Gone ! See ya when I get there dude ! Brian black 😅😊
Like a gangsta on the run, genius
The GREATEST STONER BAND EVER
......COME ON GREATFUL DEAD FANS
LET'S DEBATE.
smh my head as a deadhead I do enjoy grooving to the dan from time to time but this is such a silly thing to say donald and walter were all about those tight well produced instrumentals whereas the dead expanded your mind with long winded jams
Are we ready?
Kieth Carlock...laying it down
Sorry, but I don't think the date of show as stated is correct. Pine Knob is a shed, last shows of the season are typically late September/early October...no shows ever in November that I'm aware of. Maybe 8/11, not 11/8?
Great track regardless though, lol!
You're absolutely correct Michael! Confirmed via Google that I had the date mixed up - thank you!
Carlock.
Cornelius Bumpus on the sax Rip...
I only know the Black Crow by Joni Mitchel
2:39 best part
She is gorgeous!!
Fanfruggintasmagorical
Today's music is just so shit. Thanks Steely 😊
Too slow…
