you dont know I have heard someone said/write that Steve Vai is the inventor of the 7 string guitar. Well this is of course wrong. String instruments with more strings then six have exist for a very long time. But was he the fist one to get a 7 string guitar into regular production, the jem universe 7 string before korn mungky🤣
Iv always hated how people say things like "They cant do guitar solos.." etc. That's just ridiculous. They definitely CAN. More so now a days. But regardless, It is not about your skill level.. Its all about the creativity & the capability to actually WRITE A SONG. Idc how many lessons you've had or how fast you can solo. Id go w someone that can hardly play but can write a great record w raw emotion than someone just shredding the whole time. (this has nothing to do w Vai btw).
I've never seen a clearer display of just how different Vai and Korn's worlds are. When the guitars are turned to their tuning, Vai seems to have loads of trouble... not with with fingering or tech, just trying to fit something into what they do, in their tuning. Shit that's mental. I half expected him to blow everything out of the water... but then he looked just as upside down as I'd be. Really love that they were all cool enough to hang out and give it a go though.
Steve Vai is such a cool guy. And he's a big Korn fan. Take that, uppity music snobs who say Korn is shit but Vai is amazing. Which he is, but damn guys even HE likes Korn.
You are correct sir! Finally someone who knows the truth. Personally, I call Steve "The Grandfather of Seven-Strings" because he was the one who started the entire wave of it.
Both Head and especially Munky have improved in their playing ten fold! I saw Munky rip an awesome, creative solo live a couple years back! It's on UA-cam!
that riff at 3:23 from munky, isnt on any song and its great, and i mean EPIC GREAT, like the ones we dont hear from them or anyone anymore, very crazy but very groovy, and insanely catchy, they feel so good. ;)
I hope so too, but ive just heard rotting in vain, and pretty much its more of the same :/ except for that part inthe middle, the bridge, when it goes crazy, i still hope the rest of the album has more and longer parts like that.
I remember watching this video back in high school( I think it was on the special edition of freak on a leash) and being influenced and motivated by Steve’s playing..
Schooled....kids just got SCHOOLED!......Vai really did have to pull over to listen to them when he heard their first album, it's on a blog of his on his website. Vai could humble almost anyone jamming for the first time though......he's got respect for KORN...so do I. ROCK ON BOYS! ........I'd love a project with Vai and KORN....
i think korn's riff like fight , korn's music and riff can really dish it out. everytime korn's snare let me feel like clenched fist,a punch in the face.
@AlbiCollier yeah in soloing. As god-like as steve is, he wouldn't be able to make the awesome, heavy groovin riffs korn made so well back then. I'm not sayin either's better though, just wanted to point that out.
Actually Steve Vai pretty much invented 7-String electric guitars in the late 80's, and Korn took the idea and ran with it, creating a whole new way to use them. Still awesome though!
I truly believe these guys know there place in front of steve vai.... They play guitar for gods sake. Itd be awfully presumptuous for them to even try to show off in front him. :p That said, they do seem to play well together! :) I enjoyed this
@ElvisBluntman777 really?? have you listen to L.A.P.D its the same band members as korn exept for the singer and they have amazing solos and i really mean amazing
@TheCrue4life Bit unfair. I didn't compare it to studio "stuff" I've been listening to him since i was a kid. over the years his tone HAS become dry, not because of his lack of skill, just how he likes to sound, i never knocked him, i just like the way he used to sound AND STILL WOULD if he layered more. Its not for me to say my way is better, hes steve vai!! I;m just saying i miss the old sound, I'm allowed to have a preference (and i was still impressed)
This video proves that their music can be combined with excellent solos, but for some odd reason they don't play them, but it would be cool to hear sometime later, no offence.
that actually is a good point. But there is no denying. Korn has made a name for themselves. Not that I like them much (not my style I guess). It's the very thing you just said now though that proves my theory that most music these days is just inbred pop music just copying musical styles from others. Popular music these days sounds like the incest made brother of old pop artists.
Only because people don't try to find good music on their own- they refer to what used to be Mtv and the top 40 fo rtheir info.. LOTS of really good tunes out there.. In fact.. wtf am I even still arguing over this??
I love Vai more than korn but to be fair he didn't come off much better than them in this, his tone seems to have got worse over the years, i swear it;s just the way he sets his equipment these days, i think vai always sounded best with that wall of sound he had in passion and warfare ultrazone. Of course flexable was awesome but these days that raspy sound doesn't do him justice, even the early stuff was raw but not raspy.
wow ive been playing guitar for a year n a half n i figerd out that 4 finger thing at 3:00 that he was asking........FAIL ON KORN PART. not hating korn. i like them : falling away from me
3:25 that riff is one of the reasons i love korn all those weird little sounds.
"What you guys do is so fresh and sweet, you don't have to be able to solo." - Steve Vai
"Damn I thought I was doing pretty good." - Munky
This video shows how musicians with very different styles can blend in and play together. Very nice!
Love how you can tell, even through such a bad quality video, that KoRn's guitar tone back then was fuckin massive.
there was this kid in high school like 15 years ago who told me about this jam, and I always thought he was full of it
Let me guess... Someone stole your sweetroll.
Imagine a Korn song with an impromptu by Steve Vai on a track. 🔥🔥🔥
Steve Vai and KoRn should do a song together
That was obviously Munky's and Head's best day ever...
Yeah, It had to have been, being that Steve Vai is head & munky's major influence.
Actully no. Munky is the one, who have had more contact with Vai. Head's just goes through with the flow
Oh ok.
Mr V Munky's Influence is Warren DeMartini
wait... did head tried an sweep arpeggio at 2:47?
Also - Vai started the 7-String Ibanez guitars.. & THEN KoRn came along & started using them. Not the other way around.
you dont know I have heard someone said/write that Steve Vai is the inventor of
the 7 string guitar. Well this is of course wrong.
String instruments with more strings then six have exist for a very

I just came in my pants, what a combo of great guitarists !
Iv always hated how people say things like "They cant do guitar solos.." etc. That's just ridiculous. They definitely CAN. More so now a days. But regardless, It is not about your skill level.. This is noise
@@Zakariah1971 Everything is noise
I've never heard Steve Vai play this hard before. Everything he plays is beautiful and melodic but this was HARD! (and I liked it).
the shredder version of "its on"!
I've never seen a clearer display of just how different Vai and Korn's worlds are. DAMN!! really a rare and EPIC video, VAI+old KoRn= insane music
They're both amazing just different types of players. Both excellent at what they do. Vai was a massive influence on them I think.
Munky's harmonics are trippy!
Steve Vai is such a cool guy. And he's a big Korn fan. Take that, uppity music snobs who say Korn is shit but Vai is amazing. Which he is, but damn guys even HE likes Korn.

6:10 It's on with a solo.. lol
Both Head and especially Munky have improved in their playing ten fold! I saw Munky rip an awesome, creative solo live a couple years back! It's on UA-cam!
Oh man, SO GOOD. I wish I could have been there in person, and to be in on the James Schaffer joke.
that riff at 3:23 from munky, isnt on any song and its great, and i mean EPIC GREAT, like the ones we dont hear from them or anyone anymore, very crazy but very groovy, and insanely catchy, they feel so good. ;)
+Israel Johnnatan Yep!! That was some avant-garde shit right there lol!
You're right, that riff kills! Hope new album has it.
No kidding! for real, id like to know any band that plays something similar to that
I hope so too, but ive just heard rotting in vain, and pretty much its more of the same :/ except for that part inthe middle, the bridge, when it goes crazy, i still hope the rest of the album has more and longer parts like that.
the riff sounds similar to Godflesh-xnoybis
우와.... 최고다 전설과 풋풋한 시절의 멍키..

This shit is fucking awesome, I wish it had been uploaded in 2003.
Nice! I have that same exact guitar Steve Vai is playing!
I wish there was Fredrik Thordental with them.
that went better than i thought it would
So many James Shaefers there😂
i remember this was on the follow the leader cd
I guess they are really into Fuzz pedals, I like it.
steve, munky and head should all make an album together. but seeing that munky wont meet up with head and talk it over. but that day will come
That was cool
02:46 did you see that sweep picking!? Does anybody know what happened to Colin Malone the interviewer?
i think korn's riff like fight , korn's music and riff can really dish it out. everytime korn's snare let me feel like clenched fist,a punch in the face.
@AlbiCollier yeah in soloing. As god-like as steve is, he wouldn't be able to make the awesome, heavy groovin riffs korn made so well back then. I'm not sayin either's better though, just wanted to point that out.
the camel song
Actually Steve Vai pretty much invented 7-String electric guitars in the late 80's, and Korn took the idea and ran with it, creating a whole new way to use them. Still awesome though!
you are quite right.. in fact the more I read our correspondence, the more it seems that our opinions are similar in many ways. High five on that.
If this was before Follow The Leader was made, I know where the It's On riff came from
came with follow the leader
I like these guys in combination more than I like them separated.
I want to jam with KoRn so fucking bad my style would go great with them
vai is fuckin real artist-he plays everything with everyone....
1:43 rage against the machine
I truly believe these guys know there place in front of steve vai.... They play guitar for gods sake. Itd be awfully presumptuous for them to even try to show off in front him. :p
That said, they do seem to play well together! :) I enjoyed this
most shoes cant record video, it was probably a camera and an old one seeing as this video is quite old.......
If only we knew that Korn was truly delivered from Steve bye
0:20シビれるわぁぁぁ苗~苗
2:19-2:27- that sounds familiar! I'm sure there's a song that uses this, but I can't remember which one.
how the hell they do their exclusive guitar sound with every stuff they have???
KORN has New interpretation, and steve vai has Guitar technique, steve vai can not escape scale restrictions. But both are excellent, very cool.
I never thought I should see Steve Vai with shot hair. Don't let it happen again!
you dont need to solo to have a good song you know
that last jam was epic!!!! holy fuck!!
Very CHOICE!!!! Kinda underground jam feel.VERY CHOICE!!!!!
AAaaaaaagggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lead v rhythm, rhythm v bass.....
Who would'a believed it??
2:20 to 2:30 is just insane, Love how head follows the stuff.
@ElvisBluntman777 really?? have you listen to L.A.P.D its the same band members as korn exept for the singer and they have amazing solos and i really mean amazing
Oh my.. Sony Trinitron monitor! Was the best at that time.
3:26 get MUNKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol awsome riff
I can't even understand what the hell this means but it sure as hell made me laugh
Camel song 7:00 ?
Hahaha Vai is a funny dude. If I didnt know any better Id say he was trolling Korn.
Do anyone knows from where is this footage? Is this a TV show or something?
Mind=blown!

Fucking awesome!
ibanez 7 string perform ???? co0l
i remember watching this back in the DAY haha :D that was the day i knew KORN! was not the best guitar players lol
Love Korn, but Vai just gave a lesson for free. His tone sucks ass, but still like the collaboration.
classic!!!
a really filthy one
This is classic
you would think by that time munky and head would knoe how to shred...how sad :(
Says the person who cant spell
yo i that jack black yo
epic ass vid.
This video proves that their music can be combined with excellent solos, but for some odd reason they don't play them, but it would be cool to hear sometime later, no offence.
Does anybody know the name of the song that feildy say for munky to play
Camel song
Can't see Steve Vai over that monster Fieldy.

Is that Mike Orlando's back?
Only because people don't try to find good music on their own- they refer to what used to be Mtv and the top 40 fo rtheir info.. LOTS of really good tunes out there.. In fact.. wtf am I even still arguing over this??
True that and thanks to Korn Steve Vai started to use a 7 string guitar and thats really cool :)
The difference between film and video!
Why is there a guy shoving his mic in their faces?
EPIC-FUCKING-SHIT
@worldof12 ...fair enough.
I love Vai more than korn but to be fair he didn't come off much better than them in this, his tone seems to have got worse over the years, i swear it;s just the way he sets his equipment these days, i think vai always sounded best with that wall of sound he had in passion and warfare ultrazone. From with year is this?
@ultimateguitar553 soooo true haha but korn is still the shit
wonder if these guys have lost any of their hearing since then? ;)
James Shaffer.
It looks like a professor of high energy physics communicating with schoolchildren.
I hope you understand.😆😆😆
how is that insane?
wow ive been playing guitar for a year n a half n i figerd out that 4 finger thing at 3:00 that he was asking........FAIL ON KORN PART. not hating korn. i like them : falling away from me
15 years latter UA-cam :/
