Jack Carter, being "dunked" as you said, doesn't have anything to do with anything. He was saved, turned from his sinful ways BEFORE he was "dunked". Then after he repented and was saved he participated in a symbolic ritual of "dunking", also known as Baptism. Nobody is saved by Baptism.
