It's almost like this song was written for my Dad. A life of alcoholism, partying, heartache. I will never forget the day he was baptized in the muddy waters of the river not far from where we lived. All I could think was "this time he went under for the Lord."
@@trinatrina5811 It really is so very appropriate considering how many times he fell in the water! Sometimes from the bank and Sometimes from the boat!
I wrote The Baptism of Jesse Taylor in 1976. Jesse Taylor was a Black man I knew who was a veteran of World War II. He passed away in 1976 and I wrote this song 🎵 as a tribute to him. I talked with the family at his funeral and learned the story of how he came to salvation. Jesse Taylor was from Franklin County Alabama and before he was saved he was known to party and he fathered an illegitimate son. His son's name was AJ. After Jesse got saved he married the mother of his son and the family moved to Kansas City in order to cover over the illegitimate birth of the boy. Jesse Taylor was a changed man! By the time I met him in 1972 he was a very devoted Christian ✝️ and I never would have guessed the story of his past unless the family told me the story. The grace of God is amazing!!
Charlotte who ever you are, you are a liar,Dallas Fraser wrote it. You are a piece of work for trying to get the credit for writing the song. Some people.
Penrod in his best! He can still hit those high notes with that might punch!! This group has been been the best ever! It's good to see those earlier singers singing with the very current Reggie😊
From what I heard, He had personal issues that he had to resolve and couldn't keep up with touring and flying back home to family because of circumstances in the middle of the tour. I don't know what tour it was but when it was over he dropped out of the band. After he finally resolved his problems he started his solo career and loved it so much that he rejected his invitation back to the group so Russ took his place... Again not staying this was a fact it's just what I heard.
@@Erik-Pineda not correct - Russ didn't take his place, Michael and David came back when Guy left for the solo career. (don't know about the personal issues)
Imagine when he stood up and sang with his league. David, mark and Bill. The audience gone wild when Guy opened his mouth. Just another level of anointing ❤- Praise the Lord!!!
I grew up in a small southern town and knew a few "Jesses", people whose lives were supernaturally changed, on a dime, when they first believed. I know God is real because of what he's done for me, and because of the change I've seen in others.
Miss Guy, anointed vessel of God. Blessings Guy, continue winning souls for God’s kingdom through your ministry.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️for you. When we all get to heaven!,,,,,,
These mens never fail to impress and uplifting others to God. ❤These are they that holds the high peak powerhouse of the Gaither vocal band for more than 20 plus years. Never gets old. Blessings ❤ My very 4 favorite ❤. Bless them!
I pray that this same story will be repeated over and over!!!! Millions of families need this!!! Praise God that men will be men of the Lord!!!! Kids need Godly fathers!!! I had a wonderful father who was always faithful for the Lord!!!!
You guys are amazing & thank you Lord for you all . Yous are great soldiers of the Lord and best vocals singers. Never stop listening & what voices you have!!!!!!Praise God & blessingsxx
To be honest. I doubt some of them will make it. Starting with the one who owns the name. Seems so holy but in attitude failing to be the dad, chief, mentor, big brother that the other ones should be following...shame
As a child I knew a man named Jessie different last name. The little community we lived in was called Cedar Grove. This song reminds me so much of him. Jessie was one of the hardest men there had ever been. When I was a young adult he was in an automobile accident that put him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. But as soon as he was able to endure the physical stress he had them roll him down into the water. It took three big men to get the job done but they dunked him. Paralyzed from the waste down he lost his the use of his legs but gained eternal life. Jessie came out of that old cattle pond preaching and his last sermon was on his death bed. That man stood taller sitting in a wheelchair than many do on two good legs. I listen to this song from time to time when I need to touch base with God and all His glory. To Jessie M.
Adam Crabb and David Phelps are the most beautiful singers in all Christian history of music !!!!! David needs to be in the group now cuz it's the best of Em All !!!!!!!!!🤩🤩
Hello I am from Indonesia.I hope I can watch Guy Penrod n friends perform in my my country someday. Please come to my beautiful country n feel hospitality if our people.God bless you all
😂 Wait! This Jesse Taylor must be real trouble 😅 But im really glad he went under for the Lord in the end. I love the song!❤ Thanks for sharing Jesse's beautiful story. It's speaking volumes!
I think it might be “The Old Account was settled long ago. Loved singing that as child teenager and adult! My records clear today. Thank you Lord Jesus.
I was in the audience when this was filmed. I'm glad they got a good mix, because the sound in the venue was so loud it was almost deafening. This recording sounds great.
Can you explain further? If it was "deafening" on this song...it must be a technical inconveniences then. In that case...poor of you. Your ears must have been bombed with all those high pitches from all the songs and all of these high voice gentlemen.. :D Or is it only for Guy Penrod ?
"Went under for the Lord" as we ending 2024 may we all go under for the Lord and Savior and lean not on our understanding🙏

@charlotteahelemanm9907 You lie. This song was written by Dallas Frazier and Whitey Shafer in 1973.

100% and no one came on top of them.
Whenever I listen to this song I feel happier.
This is one of the most relatable songs in Southern gospel music. IMO. We all either know, have known or have BEEN Jesse Taylor.
Nobody can sing this song the way Guy Penrod does. It is magical.
So glad to see the original Gather band performing again
Mercy!! That's a fine group of men. Guy can reach those high notes so well. I know every word, cause it's a great song!
Ikr... At 58, he still hits the notes he did in his 30s...
I missed Guy Penrod, IDK why he isn't a part of this band anymore, its good to see him back and hope to see him more again
