@MisterWictor never. it's just the plastic piece underneath the car that scrapes, and it's flexible. the bumper itself is fine.
@shagy2k5 we're no longer making videos every week. We've been stagnant in our quality for a while, and we've set goals to really improve our show to the next level. In order to do that, we can't be locked into making a video every week just so we have a video every week. Our goal is now to only make videos that we ourselves would like to watch, and to really take the time to do them right.
@Kraziiboi the G37 was a 4-door car first. it went the other way around.
Spot on….I’m a very likely buyer of one of these beauties and it has NOTHING to do with lap times, 0-60 times or even top speed, it’s all about the rarity, the style and the sound…very good review 👍
@bottomlayer It's evolved since the "double duratec" days, but it was actually from the Mondeo/Contour, not the Taurus.

that noise is just heaven. it has become a signature of aston martin. i hate it when ppl say it's too noisy or whatever, but it's an Aston thats whats it about. showing it off and letting people know about it. great review and thanks for emphasizing on that beautiful noise.
@bkblitzed of course. but I can't exactly just walk into their production offices and say "Hello. I'm your new host." I'd get dragged out in 30 seconds. Besides, having attended the tapings for Top Gear USA, they did a good job choosing hosts, and I'm now glad to call them all my friends.
@Bradley0612 the car was on dealer plates, which only requires the rear.
@Nickpatient "every way, shape, or form" is a very strong statement. Those cars you mentioned are very good cars, but you must admit that a BMW M5 wouldn't get a second look in a parking lot when sitting next to a Rapide.

@GSXraja Thaddeus works with us on the films and is a very good friend. He's one of the few people who can drive my cars whenever he wants.

@EatmyDust1311 the car is very reliable, only a few things have broken, and unfortunately they have all been very expensive: Clutch at 10,000 miles - $10k. New parking brake cable - $2,500. Blew the accessory belt doing donuts - $750, annual service - $1,500. But nothing major has ever broken.

What you said about the stats was PERFECT! My friend always says that Aston's are stupid because a ZR1 has better performance and blah blah blah but he doesn't get that there is an X factor in those types of cars and lap times and performance come second to style and flair.

@nicks1258 steering feel was a problem with my stock corvette. Credit the leaf springs and oversized steering wheel for that. Now, with my coilovers and smaller Sparco wheel in my Corvette, steering is much more direct and feel was vastly improved.
@eb184veyron I never said it was the worst, although it's definitely bad. I just said that a $200,000 car shouldn't have blinker stalks that look like they came out of a $14,000 subcompact.
@E5Ridez it was supposed to be guard's red, but it honestly looked hot pink. I didn't think much of it at the time, it was just an ugly color. but it turns out the guy who chose that particular color was in charge of press cars. hence, banned.
I love the way the front doors open!
@laxairsofter I believe there are base level C and SLK class cars available in Manual.
@AdrianosFidi people don't look because it's more expensive, they look because the shape of the car is something you don't see every day. It's gorgeous. I see 50 M5's and E63's running around LA every single day, and almost never see a Rapide. Some people, myself included, like to be different, and buy cars that affect our emotions, not represent the best value in performance. If you're looking for value, you won't find it here. But if you can afford one, you dont' care about value.
@CZCirillo That isn't remotely what I said. I was saying that if you're comparing stats alone and you've never actually driven either car (like a 14 year old kid on the internet would do to form an opinion on one vs another) then the Rapide would lose. But if you actually have access and have driven them both, the Rapide starts to look much better. Unlike the Panamera, the Rapide is more than the sum of its parts.

@bloodgulch1 1) A twin turbo kit for a V6 mustang (4.0L) will require a total engine rebuild. I hope you're prepared for that. 2) if this kit actually does make 700 hp, it would be total, not in addition to your stock 210 horsepower.
@Greendude33 Isn't there some kind of "Ferrari Edition" 500 already? If not, I give it 6 months before a tuner company does one. It's the price that comes with progress. Although considering how little Aston Martin specifically contributes to our CO2 problem, yes, it's a little sily.
@EatmyDust1311 it's probably going to be 2 videos per month. we're trying to simulatenously improve our quality and make more money, both of which take lots of time when the company is only 2 people.

@bottomlayer yes, if you plan on actually driving around with 4 adults in the car, the Panamera is a much better choice, and you're right about Peich's demand that a tall person can sit in the back. The view out of the rapide is better than the Camaro, but not by much. Credit the low dash line in the Rapide for that one.
Those turn signal and wiper stalks are the same as my Jaguar X Type.
Honestly just to hear that V12 I wouldn't complain about being in the back. In my mind the Aston Martin V12 is one of the, if not the, best sounding engine around today.
@rtfk101 Big-bore V8's aren't smooth-running engines. They are angry, throaty, and lumpy, like the wonderful V8's in AMG cars or the Shelby GT500. Aston's V12 is a perfectly balanced engine, which revs to 8,000 RPM without a single vibration from the engine transmitted into the cockpit. And it still makes the best sound ever. 470 HP is more than "noticeable."
@koioo2 we've been banned from testing Porsche press vehicles. But we'll look around for one that's got a private owner.
Where I live we can legally drive golf carts pretty much anywhere in the city (except on major roads), so that golf cart race brought back memories :)
Loved the review, as always. Rapide is a sexy car and I love that exhaust note.
Saw a 2019 Rapide AMR our local dealership recently and honestly it's the first time I've thought, wow. Yes please.

I have sat in the Rapide once and it was fabulous in there, at the end of the day, which car would you take home to use every day - Panamera or Rapide?

@vasco10506 Spoke with Tanner Foust today on the set of Top Gear US. He said the Panamera Turbo they were testing was very fast, but could only do one lap at a time before completely frying its brakes. It took them 8 hours to complete 10 laps of the track, due to cool down time and swapping out brake pads. Turns out that despite Porsche's racing heritage, it's just as shitty a track car as the Rapide probably is.
@vasco10506 It doesn't make sense because you haven't driven either of the cars before. I have driven both, quite extensively. The Porsche is a hotbed of technology and performance, and has a cool interior. But, like almost all other Porsches, especially ones with 4 doors, it doesn't really do anything for me emotionally. The Rapide, on the other hand, is more than the sum of its parts. It's elegant, beautiful, makes a much better noise than the Porsche, and you don't see 20 of them everyday.

@AdrianosFidi all those cars you mentioned are positively pedestrian compared to a Rapide.
@dva511 Saying something "isn't as bad as before." Isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. That's like saying McDonalds isn't "as bad as before" because they serve salads now. Even though those salads have 2,000 calories worth of dressing.
@BigPaulize bought it new for $48,000 in 1998. Since then I've put about $30k into it.

@supasly75 I love how people can call 470 horsepower "woefully" underpowered. It's really not. The Ferrari 599 may have more power from its 12-cylinder engine, but that engine is wound so tight it needs a complete rebuild every 5 years or 10,000 miles, which costs almost $20,000. Aston Martins don't require an engine-out service, ever.
@jlostracco yeesh, you had better buy used, because we haven't really seen many cars depreciate faster than Quattroportes. As I've said before, all the maintenance costs of a Ferrari with none of the performance.
How much water goes into your garage when it rains?
@Caseybat94 I personally have nothing against it. It's an incredibly capable car, fast as hell and truly a 4-seater. Even though I know and can appreciate why it looks the way it does, I still don't really like the styling, and it doesn't do anything for me on an emotional level the way the Rapide does.
@AdrianosFidi Park a Rapide next to an M5 and let 500 people walk by it. No one will give the M5 a second look when there's a Rapide sitting next to it. Same goes for those other cars. They are all great performers, but Aston Martin's are rolling artwork. The $90,000 E63 looks an awful lot like the $45,000 E350 mommy-mobile. But nothing looks like a Rapide.
Yes but Porsche Panamera is quite ugly. And this, this a thing of beauty.
@CZCirillo Hate to break it to you, but the most successful car shows in the world (Top Gear, Fifth Gear) edit segments together to "impose their opinion on the viewer." Anyone can go to Edmunds and look up stats comparing one car to another for a truly un-biased chart of numbers. Someone's opinion of how it feels is the entire point of watching this kind of video instead of just comparing numbers on a chart.
You know MAtt, when you say "it screams" at 4min 31 sec. You had the exact same face as I had when I saw the James Bond Quantum of Solace. I was saying the exact same thing in the theater, "OMG it screams" I need that sound. Europe rules. I am saving up for a Porsche because I need that crazy European sound
hmmm, yeah I agree and they still get pretty impressive 0-62 times even with the power they have. I guess the V12 adds to that performance.
that aston is ludicrously fast for what it is. from what i can tell, i would mos def spend the extra $70,000 for the aston than the panamera turbo. great review matt! keep it up!

@peavyt15 The only thing Maserati's have going for them is their sound, the rest of the car is crap. However, I'll take a 12 over an 8 any day. It's a perfectly balanced engine.

@teamlaguna Actually it was the Duratec V-6, but the engine now share's very little with that first V-12.
The Vulcan was an old pushrod engine, not a modular engine,

I must say, when it comes to looks, this and the panamera is in two different galaxies...
@jameshoffa730 definitely wouldn't call this review a "Slam." It's a brilliant to drive, and adds the semi-usable back seat without making the car feel any bigger than a DB9. And even though it doesn't have as much practicality as a Panamera, there are people who don't need that kind of practicality and want to buy it on its good looks alone, which is fine. We liked the car, it's not very practical. That's all.
At 4:25 I needed a new pair of pants. Stats on a page really can't tell you how awesome a car will sound.
4:28 I made a mess in my pants. I love the Rapide but I'd personally go for the Quattroporte because I love how crazy and Italian it is.
The Panamera has REALLY grown on me. Pictures really don't do it justice at all. I've seen quite a few around my work... and actually pretty sexy (especially in white). I'd get it over the AM Rapide (as if I could afford either hahahaha!).

@zxzrp0 TST rents the house, doesn't own it, but based on current market, the car is worth just under half what the house is worth.
that V12 is the reason why you get this over a panamera.
i mean, of course you are getting 500HP on the turbo panamera, but that is actually the major problem because, in the other side, the Aston does 30 less (a bit less considering it is RWD), but from a Naturally Aspirated V12, wich according to the experts, gives you a much better feedback and control than boosted engines.

@SemoneMerku I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm going to anyway. The odds of us doing videos with used cars worth less than 10k are slim to none, leaning towards none. We rely on making videos about cars that are interesting, exotic, or popular, in order to get views. Reviewing older cars that are out of production or not really talked about in mainstream media don't help to forward our show at all, so we won't be covering them.

Now i really think that geico commercial with the squirrel running in the street is real notice how that squirrel pops out of no where at 0:27.
i liked this show better when it was normal cars with a few super cars here and there. but thats just me i know a lot of people like the way it is now. Regardless I still love TST and will continue watching

It's weird that a C5 Corvette has more trunk space than a 4 door Aston Martin...Having said that, that Aston is by far the sexiest sedan ever conceived. If only Porsche knew how to design genuinely pretty cars.

They could, but they wouldn’t price it along the Z4 or the Boxter. They probably wouldn’t even give it an engine like the other two because being an Aston Martin, they would focus mainly on the styling first. I actually own a Z4, but I personally would get the new Boxter S instead, and have the Aston as a bigger car.
