🔴 Two things: 1: In the video my intention was to applaud Todd for his statements. Most people got that but a few seemed to think I was ripping on him for the overnight success part. I was supporting his statement & agree with him.
2: SORRY FOR ANY BAD AUDIO / buzzing sounds! I'm in a new set-up and have to make some tweaks to a few things.

Okay, I was about to post this, but I see you already acknowledged it - the video is straight up painful to listen to because of the ultrasounds. It's like these nasty rodent repellents people set up on their lawns.
Worst times for games? Nah we got BG3 baby.....Elden ring....evem days gone and Nioh 2.... Wolfheart God bless love your channel brother.
Fun Fact: Hasbro has never once done one friendly consumer thing and it’s employees have never once said something nice about working there
Are the lawful evil or chaotic evil?
Definitely lawful evil - the reserve list is best evidence of this
Lawful evil - best evidence of this is the mtg reserve list
I don't know about all of that, I'm not informed about it. But I definitely don't trust hasbro to make another great D&D product without Larian
@VladTheBreaker Oh they did quite a few cool things in the past.
However - just because they where cool in the 1970ties and 1980ties doesn't mean anything for today's Hasbro.
Guarantee you that the reason they are shopping around for a new developer for BG4 is because Larian refuses to engage in anti-consumer monetization practices.
Absolutely!!
Maybe. Sven has also indicated to being tired of the same thing for so long. Change of spice makes you eat kind of thing. He is clear and vocal on the greed in corporate and as a leader of an organisation and team I love he is open that it can be done differently
That’s a little from column A. A little from column B is: SIX YEARS.
BG3 took 6 years to produce, and many, many, many delays. It must have been brutal on him, and his ever-expanding team, during COVID no less. And they fucking did it!
So it’s time for them to write their own ticket, and use what they fought long and hard for, to create the games they want in a completely unfettered way.
@@drunemeton I guarantee you that they would've taken on BG4 if asked. However, Hasbro doesn't see any of the WOTC IPs as anything but money machines, and they reeeeeeeally love doing anti-consumerism.
Nah, Larian just hated working with D&D and found it super restrictive and difficult to translate. They also spent like 7 years slaving away on the thing and made a triumph of game design. They want to do something fresh and new. No one wants to have to keep producing D&D based content or continuing on with pre-established characters for sequels. They want to do something fresh
If Enver Gortash ran Hasbro it would be more ethical and have a better reputation.
Bane: I fear no man. But that thing (looks at Hasbro) ... it scares me.
Erin probably ran it
Gortash knows the importance of keeping up appearances. Hell, he managed to convince his followers he's a younger man with a quick and easy smile. Have you *seen* him?
what is really weird is that you are completely right. Gortash may be a dick, but he has common sense, and he knows how to get people to love him.
@ArakkoaChronicles Uh-huh! I was so confused at first. He's wrinkly as fuck
I have a feeling that baldur's gate 4 is going to be a live service title with microtransactions because of greed
You want to make x choices in the game? Gotta drop 5 bucks for this path to do such!
Gonna have to pay for sex scenes xD
I won't buy it if that comes to pass
Bye bye mods. Now you have to pay for extra hair options.
Like .99 to re-roll dice
Let me just make one thing clear.
I fucking love Swen. His mentality has to be the mindset of this industry.
Totally agree. Unfortunately the mindset of this industry is to insult players minds and rip them off with exploitative games -- because most AAA game studios are owned by corporations that only care about the bottom line.
a big amen to that
Yup. Unfortunately, publishers continue to ruin everything between WOTC / Hasbro fucking Larian and Sony forcing Shift Up to censor Stellar Blade. We need to do something about this...
I feel like maybe some of that comes from being a Belgian company? Can't think of any American game studios with the same sort of mindset.
@@chriseggroll Not really. That shit happens in companies no matter the location.
Larian not being at the helm of the future of Baldur's Gate is possibly the biggest scandal and disgrace in gaming history
No way, because BioWare did great work with Baldur's Gate. It's a shame Larian isn't continuing, sure, but it's not a scandal nor a disgrace because there are better BG games and other companies that've done good work with it.
TL;DR I understand your sentiment is more of a kneejerk reaction than anything else, but it's very melodramatic.
Yeah, Larian is very scandalous.
No, its a blessing. If you actually look at BG3 and how it is written, you'd see why I for one is relieved to not having to suffer through another disappointment.
@@Kojak0my view on it is Larian did amazingly on gameplay, graphics, and MOST of the story. There were just so many things left off and certain places, and Act 3 feels so bloated that it starts killing my enjoyment of playthroughs when I get there.
They didn't make the first two so I don't understand your point.
Sven's comments about moving on from D&D to make their own IP combined with his comments about fighting publishers tells me that if they had done BG4 or even DLC that Hasbro was going to meddle like mad now that they understood that BG wasn't just some niche cRPG. He wants the freedom to do what he wants and I respect that.
This, totally
I tend to believe this too. He knew it was going to be a headache working with Hasbro on BG4 and simply didn't want it..Good for him.
How does he not get that
@@tonyjones2994still sucks to know these characters they just made us fall in love with, will now be mismanaged and poorly executed most likely in any future sequels or projects
There are some things that the IP holders should retain control over like lore and characters. I think overall Larian's done a wonderful job on BG3, but I disliked how they drastically bent the lore on some things (the tadpole should never have worked on Astarion, being an undead, for example), and the way they did some old returning characters a major disservice in how they were portrayed (Minsc and Jaheira were spot on, but Viconia and Sarevok were very different from how they were in the previous games and they basically ignored potential actions that players of previous games could have taken). At the same time though, Larian is also a video game development company first and foremost, and they absolutely should push back on toxic/unhealthy game design decisions like the rumours about Hasbro/WotC wanting to include things like microtransactions and season passes for BG3. And then there's stuff in the middle like rules that are fine for tabletop, but would absolutely slow/bog down a video game, or PnP rules that need buffing up in order to make certain classes/features viable to use. (A good example? Familiars. In tabletop, due to the sheer creative freedom of what you can do with a familiar, it more than makes up for their severe lack of combat capability. However, in a CRPG where combat is going to be almost ever-present, familiars become a huge liability early on and most spellcasters just flat-out stop using them once they're past early levels. For situations like this, you NEED some sort of scaling/levelling system for familiars and possibly other summons as well.)
After BG3 I'm basically willing to follow Larian wherever they want to take me. I love Swen's attitude towards both Larian's customers and employees, and it's obvious they know how to make a good game. Turns out, if you make a good product, and don't try some greedy shenanigans, people will happily hand over their money. Who knew?
Okay, we all knew, the consumers. Why the suits can't seem to figure it out seems very strange.
Shareholders are demons from hell and the whole system needs to be ripped up and fixed.
I remember void in my heart when i finished divinity original sin. Then i found out there is sequel. Finished, another void. Then i saw some first video of Sven playing as Astarion and i was like fuuuuck two more years of void
I fully recommend to play Larians earlier games, Divinity Original sin 1 & 2. I played those way before BG3 came out and id say they are as good
@@skyjaycesw5963 DOS2 is a masterpiece
@@skyjaycesw5963 I played 2 and it was solid. I really liked how Larian was able to add in all the bells and whistles (voice acting, cut scenes, etc) for BG3, though. They left me excited for whatever they do next.
Not only BG3 has been released for 9 months but it has been playable for MUCH more in the form of EA. It's an incredibly replayable game.
Foreal! Im on my 4th playthrough and its still so much fun
Been playing almost everyday since release and im still enjoying it just as much replay value is such an underrated feat for a game. That’s why i never understood the Spider-Man crowd being so salty. It was never gonna beat BG3 even if it’s a really fun game too. It just doesn’t have the same shelf life that BG3 has
This is true! I have over 500 hours in this game haha

@Alonepistachio I know but I can't play as much as I want!
Larian don’t have share holders. They refuse to go public. They’re really the only big name studio I can think of that can still truly be called independent. You can get away with a lot more when you don’t have to please share holders
Because Sven has it in his head that he is the best thing since sliced bread. And he is boss at larian and his wife tells him to not go public so he doesn't.
He is the best thing since sliced bread though... Theyre one of the few ethical and talented studios... @@liaratsoni9768
@@liaratsoni9768please explain in detail where this information came from we'll wait
Larian’s approach to corporate culture in the gaming community should be modeled by others. They clearly know how to keep people happy and retain talent. That’s how you make a good product.
It kind of reminds me of playing a character, honestly. If there's something you don't like about a character so you keep deleting it over and over - you're never gonna max out and reach the highly lucrative end-game you're looking for.
It's not the character's lone fault. You're the one who put it together, didn't gear it with lasting quality, don't care about maintaining its actual needs, and don't pay attention to the layered game mechanics that aren't covered in the tutorials.
But, but, the tiny profit boosts and quality loss from getting rid of those incredibly skilled developers were getting rid of.
- probably someone in the industry somewhere.
What I love most about them is that the award they care most about was best community,
This feels like the CEO saying "glorious success! Now we just need to cut costs here and there and we'll make SOO MUCH MONEY on the next game!" And then they "cut costs" by firing everyone that actually made the game successful.... This doesn't give high hopes for BG4.
Ubisoft's "Baldur's Gate 4". Fucking kill me before that happens.
@@kea1234 bright side: Dark alliance wont be the worst BG game anymore.
Lol but why would Larian stay with Baldurs Gate? They dont want to publicly blame Wizards but we all know its Wizards. You cant have a three decade long reputation of being an absolute shithead of a company and expect people to trust you. Its like NWN 2 all over again. Massive game, groundbreaking for its time, CRPG to the core, but of course Bioware wanted to get as far away from Wizards as humanely possible. The only valid argument I can see is D&D simply has amazing lore and to give credit to wizards restrictions on the games they do focus on turn out great. Theyve also let a lot of crap fly and seem to only crunch down on solid devs.
Hasbro after announcing BG4:
"Do you guys not have phones?"
🤣
this comment is going to be prophetic... good god.
Or with the current Sony drama... "do you guys not have psn accounts?"
Rather "do you guys not have a premium+++ platinum OneDnD account?"
13:40 The best example of that in my opinion is whoever decided to change Larian’s twitter to “Baldur’s Late” back in early access. This kind of silliness really makes you want to connect with the studio and care!
Exactly.
The moment from "I'm not sure about Baldur's Gate 3" to "Hurry up and take my money" was when I saw one of their panels from hell and they had gone into full LARP mode. They were funny, they were enthusiastic, they didn't care when they were cringe, and it made me feel like I was sitting around a table playing D&D in high school again.
It also reminded me of how in-character Richard Gariott would get back in the Ultima days, and how much I'd loved those games growing up.
I signed up for the early access that day, even though the PC I had at that moment couldn't even look at it without overheating.
Hasbro: Ah that looks easy. I mean its all our ip anyway. Can I just go ahead and and make Baldurs Gate 4?
GM: You can certainly try...
*nat 1*
"I use my corporate greed ability to buy a reroll with advantage! (it's actually disadvantage, but they're too disconnected from their consumers to notice)"
Get ready for some low quality, soulless cash grab Baldur's Gate spin offs.
Watch them use beloved characters from 3, and write them entirely wrong, or cast different VAs or some other such heretical action.
Don't forget us GOG players... and all of the others.
Larian have shown what independence can bring to devs and all. Hasbro will never get another penny from me (one who has spent £10,000's on Magic TG over the decades) but Larian? Yeah, I'll be paying and playing for as long as this BG1 player is willing and able.
You say that now. But on the slightest, barest hint of a chance that Hasbro finds a studio who delivers Baldur's Gate 4 at perhaps 80% of what Larian did for BG3, you'll still buy it.
@@graysonb_designs I would personally, if a studio could even deliver 80% of what Larian did, that would still higher still than most other AAA games releasing today. That said, didn't play the game because it was Baldur's Gate, played it because it was an enjoyable RPG to play.
My cynical head canon is that the people at Hasbro who worked with Larian who were let go were the people who signed off on the contract to let Larian do what they wanted. Hasbro corporate didn't like that, and put them on the list for layoffs. At least that's my unproven, untested theory.
If anything those people should have been promoted thanks to the success of BG3 for Hasbro; it alone prevented Hasbro's 4th QTR 2023/1st QTR 2024 results from being abysmal.
I bet you many dollars that's right though!!
Yup. The line of thinking on the part of those who fired them was probably, 'We could've made so much more money from this if you'd forced them to do this and this.' The irony is, those restrictions would've detracted from its success instead of increasing it. Nothing to capitalize on if nobody wants what you're selling because they've developed standards.
I have zero faith what-so-ever in Hasbro and WotC to let whatever studio takes on BG4 have the leeway they need to make a good game. I'm very certain the only reason they let Larian have as much leeway as they did was because they weren't expecting the game to be a huge success, and it had been 17 years since Baldur's Gate 2 was released when they started work on BG3. Now that Hasbro has "proof" that Baldur's Gate games sell well, they're going to take all the steps they deem necessary to make sure BG4 is an even bigger success.
Which means micromanaging whoever is making it, sanitizing the hell out of it, cutting pay and corners wherever they can, and rushing the game out in the next couple of years. It will be low quality, it will be buggy, it will be expensive, it will be live service, it will have micro transactions.
I very much hope I am wrong, because the game franchise does not deserve that kind of treatment, but knowing what Hasbro and WotC have done in the last few years with Magic: the Gathering and DnD, I have no faith in them.

Larian is one of a kind. I'm so grateful they exist and give us such amazing games. As sad as the news are, that they don't want to make bg4 or any add ons or sequels, I'm incredibly excited to see what they are gonna create next
Not sure. there are some others. The team behin Kingdom Come Deliverance, some other studios (I like MuHa Games, Tactital adventures, Shiro Games, some others seem like this)
They are not One of kind, thank goodness, but they are perhaps the best known, maybe the biggest now, of a small group who actually care about their games and their players. Others that come to mind, Factorio from Wube. Ostriv. Nimby Rails, perhaps all niche games, but then cRPG was niche until BG3.
I cant wait for Divinity 3!
Bioware was like that once, until EA bought them. Same as Westwood and likely many others.
I distrust Hasbro's intentions and capabilities to keep quality in games. I worked as a playtester for Wizkids years ago, and they had lots of ideas for new games based on the click-base IP. Then Hasbro bought them, and ground them into the ground.
Hasbro about to give Baldur's gate the Dark alliance treatment.
Get ready for studios like Tuque Games to pump sh**te out.
Agreed.. if there's one thing you can count on is a soulless corporate entity like Hasbro is to squeeze their Golden Goose until it's crapped out its last golden egg- then casually sell the carcass of WoTC for stuffing..🤑🤔😬..
At first glance, I read the title as "Larian pissed off Todd Howard." 😅
They probably did lol
Pissing Toad Howard off would be a good thing indeed
They certainly did, BG3 made everyone else look pretty bad. Starfield’s inadequacies we’re made even more glaring when compared to BG3.

Rare Todd W take.
Im sure he has some grievances, but I'm sure he also does legitimately respect their work and enjoy their games. Hes a chess club guy, im sure he played the Larian games and loved them all.
More like he knows that he couldn't say anything except positive praise, which it does deserve, but he is obviously VERY embarrassed about his work on Starfield and also ashamed and when people bring up Larian in front of him it implies it's very much a direct insult to his competence as 'dev'.
@@TheRealCaptainLavender Dudes a gigantic nerd, im sure he enjoys larian games

Matter of fact, I wasn't in a very good spot in my life back then, but those streams (Dragon Age included) and the amazing community we formed really made it easier for me. I hope it's not long before we get the chance to experience that feeling again.
Skal to you DT & skal to the future.
It’s funny to see other companies being shady towards Larian and dismissing their success.. If they want the same kind of success, they should learn from Larian, who respects their employees, dont fall victim for greed and dont see their consumers as numbers, but value the people who enjoy their products. They make consumers want to consume, which is something a lot of companies has started to neglect. Consumers want to be heard in their opinion, and not just seen as a wallet.
And have a king as head of the company, one that doesn't share responsibility. So far so good. Guess the benefits for employees are very good at larian
A little story for ya. I loved that thread Michael wrote, which surprised me because I've never cared about Marketing specifically, and I don't work in the games industry. However in my current job I am something roughly akin to a community manager/customer service rep, and almost all of what he said validates/echoes my own frustrations with the way my employer handles its marketing and communications. That "true social resonance" he's talking about seems like common sense to me, so it makes me feel insane when my company still sounds like, "Don't miss this AMAZING opportunity! Buy TODAY!😃" It just feels so obvious that authenticity is king right now, and anything less than that almost feels like active sabotage. Anyway, love that he spoke to this because I don't have anyone in my professional or personal life who seems to get or even care about this.
Really well said! That resonated with me too
I think another option for the dev for BG4 is Archetype Entertainment. It's a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast already, so I'd bet Hasbro would like that. The studio was founded to work on content outside of MTG and DND, but that could change. It's headed up by James Ohlen, who was the Lead Designer on KOTOR, SWTOR, Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights, and (most notably) Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II (including Throne of Bhaal).
The guy who was the creative lead for some of the greatest games in the genre is already the head of a gaming studio owned by WotC. Seems like a real possibility.

What I want more than a BG 4 is a NWN 3.
NWN was created by BioWare and that entity no longer exists in its original form. They sold themselves to EA and that was the end of their quality D&D games. Obsidian took over and produced NWN2 with more mixed results. Both companies released a primary game plus two expansion packs. I would like to see another NWN-type game, too, but I do not know of a company capable of delivering a tour-de-force product like Larian did with BG3.
@@TsugaC Hasbro spending 1B they could find a AAA developer. NWN 3 would be a huge draw for D&D fans in some respects it's even more so then BG because of how the game community modders added so much amazing content to both NWN 1 and 2.
@@Ironclad6661name a single AAA developer that can make a good rpg now.
Bioware’s dead
Obsidian’s dead
Bethesda is literally incapable of writing
Bethesda also incapable of developing/coding too apparently lol
@@Ironclad6661 Don't hold your breath. Consider the reaction of other developers when BG3 was released. They ALL claimed that expecting them to offer the depth and detail of BG3 in their games was unrealistic. They want to continue releasing B- games instead of A- to A-grade games because they lack the work ethic to do better. What's more, they resent Larian and the consumers who are flocking to BG3. The bar has been raised and these other developers turned peevish because they know that their future efforts will compare unfavorably to BG3.
Shouldn’t surprise anyone, “BG4” or whatever it ends up being is going to come for better or worse, with or without Larian for 2 reasons:
1) it’s not Larians IP, not their call
2) the IP is owned by a mega corporation who wants money
Not a matter of if but when, we basically just have to wait and see wether or not it ends up being a good game, which if they do indeed take their time and find a good partner on top of letting said partner take their time making the game, and like they did with Larian basically let them do their thing, I do think it could be good, likely not as good as BG3 (I mean come on BG3 is easily among some of the best games ever made) but good nonetheless
i would give the license to Owlcat Games, if nothing else they have passion and i think with the right resources and financies they can make a baldurs gate 4 great sequel.
@@muffinthemagicians4082 I simply don’t know the big dogs in the RPG genre to give a good take on who would be a good developer for BG4 as turn based RPGs typically aren’t my thing, I can confidently list a whole slew of devs that would be terrible picks for this game or any game but a lot of people can do that so I won’t bother, I’ve heard Obsidian and now Owlcat being thrown around, if they sound good to the part of the community that actually knows this genre then they sound good to me

Layoffs:
When you want to see the results, layoffs have, just have a look at Diablo 4. The original devs of D1-D3 are long gone -- and D4 was long struggling just to understand the concepts that made the predecessors great.
Would not happen, if you had the original devs at hand and listen to them. But you can see that in software development in many areas: The next version is worse than the previous one -- why? Because the knowledge left the company.
Spot on
Blizz issue wasn't just layoffs, it was the alienation of older talent and corruption, their greedy and corporate mindset made all older guys quit, being replaced by new ones(who were then fired, over and over in the layoffs that everyone got to know in the past years), that company went from being ran by nerdy friends, to being run by people who hate the games they make and talk openly about never having read a single line about their games. not to mention the nepotism.
And then you had d2 remake done by Vicarious Visions, which was well received, just to have VV cannibalized and disbanded by Blizz.
It's almost like competency is rewarded with punishment at modern gaming.
@@ragnarokandroll2638 Absolutely right.
I did not neglect that facts. I just brougt the comparison up, because the effects of layoffs are rather similar to ppl leaving the company because of other reasons AND of course, because the effects of those ppl missing is so visible in the Blizzard case.
The point here was not to go about with the whole Blizz mess, but to show the effects of knowledge leaving the fcompany.
So much of what made BG3 amazing, is the Larian touch.
It will be IMPOSSIBLE for Hasbro/WoTC to make a BG4 that is even a fraction as amazing as BG3 unless they make some drastic changes.
We do not want to see microtransactions, we do not want to see a billion editions of the game, we do not want to see the typical B.S. that I know Hasbro/WoTC want to and will do.
I......just don't see how they could possibly pull it off.
Been watching you for years, this might actually be my first comment....
I grew up with BG1, DOS 1/2 were some of my favorite games, and what Larian has done with BG3 has been mind blowing!! This genre has always been my go-to and your content following it has been amazing! Thank you for all your hard work and sharing your passion! It's been awesome seeing your channel grow, keep it up!
Thanks for the comment & appreciate the long time support!
It's too bad that Larian won't be making BG4. They could have just used the same engine for the game and concentrated on story. I would be very happy with that.
My take on Hasbro and any future WotC games are similar to someone with an incredibly harmful addiction, don't give them money for anything where they can't directly hand you a finished and clearly high quality product, don't trust that what they give you is even what they say they are giving you, don't trust that they won't try to come back later that same night to steal it back and microtransaction it back to you a second or even third time. I luckily haven't been burnt by WotC or Hasbro, but I keep seeing people pre-ordering games which... come on folks...
I guess I'm just waiting for WotC/Hasbro to put out a AAAA game that costs $350 for a microtransaction and bug riddled game that over promises and under delivers, and then for the folks who pre-ordered this car payment of a game to defend their objectively poor choices...
the video has a very loud buzz sound in the background FYI, specially for the "BG3 sequel" part
Thanks. I am in a new set up and need to mess with the acoustics in the room. Out of curiosity are you using headphones?
I also experienced this it sounds like a loud ringing almost. I'm just using my phone speaker
OH MY GOODNESS I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST MY PHONE!
Larian deserves a hug. Whatever project they make, I’m sure it will be great
BG3 was my first experience with Larian and I have become a lifelong fan. Anything that they’re involved with I will be supporting from now on. It’s so rare and refreshing to see a studio prioritize quality and fun over profits and taking the easy road
I was actually considering booting up BG3 again. So I do get why BG3 has those concurrent players for sure.
Boot uo again? I havent stopped playing...
Just started a new run with a Swords Bard (1 Wizard) after a long break, damn the game is so good.
Shadowrun by Larian - now that would be epic...
So tired of people in the gaming industry calling BG3 an overnight success. The game spent years in Early Access, during which Larian Studios spent considerable effort converting player feedback into something workable, immersive, and fun. They tweaked their game for their audience, and it was reflected in the final product.
Bg3 was one of those things you know you’ll never experience again, as you were playing it. Which is why I bled every act dry before advancing.
I hope the sequel takes the series back to real time combat. That would instantly put it above 3 in enjoyment.
I like that one of the replies to "I miss the exciting times" was - "try playing it in a different way." But, I very much agree. BG3 was honesty at it's peak for me in Early Access, because then the game was a Schrödinger's cat: The possibilities was endless, the mysteries were shrouded, the hype was real.
Having played through the game a few times now, it's really not the same. Modding is never really enough to keep me excited for a game long term. But - that's okay! We don't need to obsessively play games forever.
In many ways I miss the time when game releases were exciting several times a year - instead of "Corporate Greed 19 Valhalla" or whatever other rehash we are getting.
Seeing BG3 news from you brings back so many good memories. Like you said earlier, I do miss the earlier days of BG3. Lore videos, announcements and crazy skits. What a ride and then we got the game we hoped we were getting. Amazing.
Honestly, it's very easy to see the "problem". Take the player numbers this long after release, combined with no microtransactions to monetize them, and all the corporate heads will be thinking is "look at all this rent we failed to extract".
Greed isn't just boards twirling their mustaches. It's built into the way our system runs businesses, the way no business model or vision is as consistently rewarded as "returns right now".
Once, customer bases were something to cultivate and develop, via trust in great IPs and investment over time. Now we're a raw resource to be strip mined as quickly and efficiently as possible.
I can already imagine how the next BG game is going to turn out. Live-Service microtransaction hell with a gameplay focus on bear sex and gay relationships. Need to get those "modern audiences" fully on board. Or even better just skip the pretense and go full mobile right away.
This feels like a weird way to frame it. I partially agree, it’ll absolutely be some sort of cash grab that focusing on dragging in as much players and money as possible. However, you make it sound negative to have diversity. Bg3 is a very openly LGBTQ, it’s not a bad thing and it’s actually refreshing to see. I don’t think it’s corporate to have diversity in your game
@@leoiscool249 "However, you make it sound negative to have diversity." It is bad and has been forced where it doesn't belong. BG3 is kind of a special case with its same sex relationships as they are optional and not pushed on to you. Other then that it falls behind in diversity very much as only one of the protagonists is black. The game is 90% white which is only possible due to Larian being independent. As Blackrock and other massive investors mandate DEI in the companies they invest into, diversity is fully corporate. You seem to live under a rock or something.
@@Psilonauto Attention to detail would reveal that same-sex relationships are also found between NPCS in the game. Having diversity in a game isn’t forcing it onto you regardless of the game. If you don’t like LGBTQ representation, then don’t play the game and it’s your own issue. Don’t let your bigotry control your life, mate.
Wizard of the Coast have become a woke garbage company anyway they were just lucky that they had the honor to work with larian once
when Larian was given byBG3 there were a plethora of other studios looking to jump into the isometric rpg style, so there will be plenty of companies that would jump into the series, remember before BG3 came out you had a sudden rebirth in the style of gaming, Pillars of Eternity, Solasta and the Baldurs games enhanced editions all came out in a year
6:40 Ah yes Hodd Toward, mythical creature driven by an insatiable hunger for wealth and power, and it will stop at nothing to satisfy its desires.
Also congratulations on your 200k subs !! honestly shocked when i look at the sub count, i was here back in 2020? im sure back then it was around 5digits.
I love these and thank you for the BG3 news, it’s how I found you! I loved that they sponsored UA-cam creators for publicity! Ginny D, Mashup (I think it’s called the animation channel) and the voice actors playing D&D on High Rollers was so much fun! They even sponsored Critical Role for an episode when I’m sure every critter there knew the game was out! I already had the game at that point but if I didn’t one of those sources would have made me want it!
I agree. Most of the sponsored BG3 content was great.
awesome. thanks for keeping us in the loop. LLLS! (Lets go Larian Studios)
Hasbro doesn’t rush into things unless its approval to send the Pinkerton to raid your house for magic the gathering cards they accidentally sent early
Based on what Swen said and how he said it, I believe the reason he is no longer working with Has to is because they started trying to “put their hand in the cookie jar” and he wasn’t having any of it. I hope the next game is sci-fi though…… DOS and BG3 were D&D(like) so I’m ready for aliens and planet travels from the minds of Swen and Larian.
I know I've made this comment before, but I just have to say, thank you for all of your content. I appreciate that all of your videos get to the point, tell you exactly what you need to know, and you're not just trying to artificially extend your videos for view times. You are one of my favorite channels to watch. Thank you for everything. Keep it up, man!!
Much appreciated Donkey
first BG3 and now Eiyuden; which I been playing so much I've skipped weeks of dailies in 'live service' games regardless of how quick they are just to play more of it, it feels nice to have truly good big budget+quality single player turn based RPGs back~and on PC.
You always do such a great job with these! Thank you!
Appreciate it
Can"t wait Larian's next project, but what BG3 hype built, is for ever. Hope they will stand as long as they can !
8:25 is some goated editing lol
Thanks for the updates! I just bought BG3 & feel like a four-year old (gimmegimmegimme) waiting for the word that it's ready & going to be shipped to me. LOL. I even emailed Customer Service back for an approximate timeline for when it might be ready. (I noticed somewhere in my researching the game that the first two "printings" had sold out. I have no idea what that means, or when a third 'printing' would be available, presumably to folks like me, almost bouncing on my chair to see that delivery schedule email come. ;)
Only the most casual of gamer will expect Hasbro and WoTC to have a successful follow up to BG3 with another company. Larian saw the writing on the wall and noped out with a quickness.
Larian studios has the right business model as far as I'm concerned, and their respect for me as a customer ensures that I will continue to support them on future games they release. I know I will be getting quality, and I know I won't be taken advantage of.
I love how passionate wolf is when he talks about Larion and gameing in general .
While I agree 100% about Hasbro's money before consumers stance, I do need to highlight some potential perspective around letting a large number of employees go from a business.
There are times when a business finishes up a major project and lets go people who were recruited on a fixed term basis. There are also times when a business has a change of direction in what it is doing and people who were linked to doing the old thing are let go. In both cases a large number of new people will be hired for the new project / new "thing the business does" but it still gets reported as layoffs / people being let go. For example an IT service company getting rid of a web design section and starting to develop mobile applications instead will have a significant staff churn.
The firing of (sorry, "parting ways with") WotC's CEO is a very loud indication of big changes happening in WotC. Hopefully some common sense coming with new leadership, but not holding my breath.
I learned quite a few new things about Larian studios today and I now have tremendous respect for them. ❤
the hasbro and hodd toward rightful snark is always enjoyable & welcome! the rap intro legit made me giggle aloud
no forgotten realms , no party. They should make the next Neverwinter Nights or Icewind Dale instead making random games.
Thanks for the research and love your perspective Wolf! btw...what's with the Christmas music at the end....I had to look at the date and make sure I wasn't watching an old video ;P
Lol just thought it would be funny with the face 🤣 Thanks!
I'm with you on the "missing the buildup" thing. Once I hear about the next thing, I'm here for it!!
Man Keith.. the day that announcement trailer comes is going to be one fine day.
Hey Wolf great vid, thanks man!
Yo Scott! Thanks
lol the christmas music at the end ^^
thanks for watching the full vid!
@@WolfheartFPS of course mate, i appreciate your content 👍
Prepare for a game that has about $70 of day one DLC, additional microtransactions, as many bugs as your average Bethesda game, and the rest of the full "live service" treatment.
Larian is a company I would do almost any job for. Secretary to anything I can’t think of. They just sound like they have such a good head on their shoulders. Unlike other places that say they do certain things but in fact do quite the opposite
I own a boxed copy of Divine Divinity, so I've been a fan or Larian's games since the start. I backed the D:OS Kickstarter, but what really sold me on them being an amazing company was when they released the Enhanced Edition of D:OS.
By now most people have forgotten or never knew how rough the original release of D:OS was. It showed promise, but felt like a low budget indy game. It was old school in all the wrong ways. The UI was straight from the 90's.
But they took the money they made from the initial release and went back to polish and modernize the game. The result downright was amazing.
From there they've just gone on to do even bigger and better things. I'm confident that whatever they do next will be just as amazing.
Interesting. Not all "suits" are bad. I am one of them that talks about KPI's, efficiency, etc. That said, if what a company is doing works, then why change it right? Larian is an amazing example of doing gaming right! PS: Christmas music at the end huh? :)
Agreed Don! And actually the gaming industry could use a man like you. You're in touch with gamers and understand the products.
@@WolfheartFPS That would be a dream job!! I wonder if Sven needs a good Senior Finance guy?!
I think that Baldur’s Gate 4 will take place either 100 or so years after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, but the city state has become an industrial city that’s similar to the Victorian Era of London and Meiji Restoration Era of Japan. There are trains, submarines and other forms of new steam punk inventions. Plus there’s a new weapon mechanic known as the gun. The gun comes in many varieties such as flintlocks, blunderbusses, muskets and revolvers. All of the is available to the new class called the Engineer, who specializes in crafting turrets, cannons and robots to aid in combat. I’m pretty sure that Shadowheart, Astarion and Halsin will have some cameos, but they’re definitely in their mid 40s or 50s due to their Elven blood making them age slower than the rest of the humans.
Larian is truly the first studio that I will follow specifically on their future products, regardless of the game. The care and quality they put into BG3, the respect they give the fan base, and the ethics they seem to strongly uphold have truly made an impact and gained my respect. I can't think of another game studio that feels like they truly want to fight for what's right, and don't allow money to cloud their morality. All that whilst having a developer base that seems genuinely happy to work there. Great job Larian. Please continue to raise the bar on industry ethics and putting the people before the profits.
I keep playing this game. I keep making new characters. I keep installing mods. My friends all get together to play through, and we are already excited for what options we'll try next.
I hope we get something Sci-Fi from Larian, I could only imagine what they could pull off.
So glad to hear Bobby got awards for the BG3 soundtrack! I cant get it out of my head. He has made beautiful work!
If you haven’t seen his BAFTA acceptance speech, please do. It’s on UA-cam. It’s well worth your time…
Yeah, it's sad that most CM's nowadays straight up insult at least a half of their audience and expect they'll still buy their games... Larian and a few others are an exception to that trend.
I really really appreciate what you do for us, aggregating news, giving your thoughts, laying things out in a pretty objective manner - great stuff as always, Wolf!
Thanks for the comment! Appreciate you watching.
I don’t usually even have steam open while I’m playing and I’m probably not the only one. It’s. It a stretch to assume the number of people playing on pc is much higher
“Taking time to find the right partner….”????? You already HAD it!!
Play it every day - running two characters now (second dual playthrough) and have another character to run with after that.
I dont even speed through it like other games I may play multiple times and everyday a new combo pops into my head. Still havent hit mods yet lol
So excited if they make DOS3 next. Really looking forward to Larian’s next projects!
Amazon gaming studios learned pretty quicly that just throwing money at games wont make them good games. you need passion skill and money, hasbo only have money.
I love that they've got not studios in the US as most studios although not all are more frequently money hungry and shareholder focused within the states.
When would we typically expect some kind of reveal about an upcoming game? Larian said the actual game release is about 3-4 years away. Maybe a teaser trailer in about a year.
