I feel like social media has turned luxury into fast fashion. New bags are only “new” for a couple of weeks and then if you are seen with said bag you are “late”. It’s crazy that the algorithm is pushing out fashion sense clones. I personally do not care what anyone thinks of my luxury items, I often gravitate toward bags that are no longer relevant (preloved) and bags that didn’t make “it”. I’m not in the market of being the same or having the same things that everyone else has.

    • @KWSHOPS

Yes to "clones" I hate looking like everyone.
WHat's really sad is when the frenzy hits the resale market and would-be opportunists try to capitalize. It drives me insane! It makes me feel like they're not actually being enjoyed.

Great video! I have to agree with you fully. I feel the need to withdraw from luxury content (not yours!) so I can decide what I really like and want vs what is pushed.

I feel like the ham-fisted-ness is more on IG. UA-cam is more for long form content- which I hate to say, requires a bit more substance.
All I can say is people should be (a bit) more skeptical. ANd really think more about their own needs desires styles and lifestyles!
These bags are way too expensive to follow the herd!!

I don’t watch too many of those videos anymore. I know what my pockets can and cannot afford. I have more than enough. The local Chanel, LV, Hermes, etc boutiques are still only letting a certain amount of customers in at a time. They have been doing this since re-opening after the restrictions were lifted. Thank you for the video. 🙂

I definitely understand why the boutiques are doing this. I just don't like that I'm basically being chaperoned in the store. There's a pressure to buy and I feel like I'm wasting the SAs time if I don't purchase. it's super awkward. Especially bc when I went into the boutique they didn't have much invetory

Luxury has CHANGED and is NOT as enjoyable anymore. From the actual store experiences, constant bombardment of products, to the gate keeping of OTHERS and the preloved vs store purchases argument. I just spent almost a year searching for a reasonably priced Birkin, so I just may be shopped out after finding 2 😂😂😂😂😂

It is true that longer people do social media they *tend* to become more successful ($$$$) and start getting into luxury.

I truly love and admire certain luxury brands. I’m not influenced to get anything that I don’t really want. Probably every “it” bag that’s came around has been ugly to me😂. I guess I can say that I’m unbothered about this over consumption topic because I know I have things that I love and am purchasing with the intent to have forever. However, it does bother me that people purchase things that they don’t use but will still say that they won’t sell it😩 At that point you’re just hoarding and trying to keep something for the sake of saying you own it! There’s people who want that specific item for actual use smh

I've been over LV for a while, ever since they started to pause the canvas years ago. I felt like they were trying to release themselves from a price point, and a certain customer base.

I’m over the whole social media IT bags of the moment. The bags I’m into are not even current season bags….I’m into the YSL college bag and the Celine nano luggage…..they have been on my wishlist for a while but their price point is not within my budget even preloved. I can obsess over them and yet not buy them. Nowadays some of the latest IT bags are four thousand dollars and that just doesn’t appeal to me and it is not within reach of a lot of people. I love fashion but I don’t want to give up other things in life like travel to buy the latest expensive stuff. And the never ending frequent new releases is overwhelming to be honest ♥

I would also like to add that these marketing teams are paying attention to societal norms… Many have become obsessed with staying on trend, accumulating goods, use them for a minute, then move on to the next “hot” thing. With that, brands are producing goods to appease customers’ never ending never satisfied approaches to shopping 🤷🏾‍♀️

For me I don't feel like it's the luxury itself that's too common. For me it's the specific items. At least for now. If 'everyone' (which is never actually everyone) had an LV bag for example, I might be ok if they were all different. Variety is the spice of life!

Agreed! Like getting a Birkin or Kelly used to be a “holy grail” bag (and still is for many) but there are influencers I used to follow who have multiples. Multiples! Where do you go from there? I get there are different sizes and leathers etc but geez. It speaks to the point about not being able to savor the bags.
Admittedly I don’t like Hermes bags myself (not my style) but I’d much rather watch someone find a rare or one of a kind item or something they got at a steal. That’s why I love this channel!

Here's my controversial hot take: I think that social media is ruining everything, full stop! I'm teasing, but only partially. I, personally, find the over exposure of brands/bags on social media to be annoying and it actually drives me away. I do not want to have the same bag as everyone, which is why I went the luxury route anyway. I hate how the brands are all starting to copy each other with design and the need to constantly force products down our throats is effecting creativity, quality, and price!

I love that we agree on a lot of similar points especially in terms of the pros of social media.
I also like your point about seeing the same thing as a result of the algorithms doing their thing. That’s probably why I’m a bit bored with the new stuff being released.
And you do you when it comes to your collection. What I did was start to review bags I don’t own (hahaha) and simply borrow from family; because there’s definitely a finite number of bags I can show and talk about. I am not rolling in money 😅🤣

It can be a slippery slope , I feel that there are some people out there that watch these luxury haul videos and become convinced that their own self worth is caught up in what and how much their bag is . Also I feel it can be very convincing to some to purchase an item or items they really can't afford to make them feel good about themselves .

FYI, I am NOT into luxury brand shopping. I can never see myself in a place where I think it would be ok to buy a bag for $4000! However, I am an artist and can appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of some of them.
I think the only 2 “name brand” purses I have are Paloma Picasso. My ex-husband bought them for me in the early 2000’s. We were Christmas Shopping and he saw me admiring them.
I use them still if I have to dress up for something. I laughed when you said there was a story for each. My bag with the handles still has an American postage stamp that my son stuck on the bottom of it when he was about 2. It’s vintage all right because my son is now 22 😂

Great points. Part of marketing is to create demand but it’s definitely frustrating when you know the influencers are pushing a product they truly wouldn’t own themselves. And yet many take the bait (I’ve even caught myself… lol). Others use sponsorships and credits to just buy excessively for these massive hauls (to your point about compulsive shopping) that in turn make up so much of their content. I had to unfollow a bunch bc after awhile I caught myself looking up items I never thought I would like. Most of the time it was just a moment and I let it go. My wallet is better for it.

It is hard to get excited about unboxing, etc. I just watched a content creator go over some of her vintage and newer bags that she purchased from a teenager until now. She spoke about why she will never get rid of some of her vintage bags. Her video was very interesting because it had deep meaning and the bags were very few luxury bags even though she had a lot of them.
