Amazing how much of an improvement good quality pads can make. The front caliper was definitely due for some love. Beautiful meticulous work as always Del and Penny. Friction material is a bit of a mysterious art. I remember the first ceramic clutch discs I put in a heavy truck. It was also the last.😁 Many thanks and safe riding to you both. ❤👍👍
Sure thing Rick, braking science is deep and extensive, but a simple route to good brakes is just to fit the best you can afford and keep them clean because dirty calipers can be a problem all on their own! Enjoy the rest of your week there, and thanks as ever for your kind words, D&Px
I need your help sir my iron 883 2016 won't start at all . I have iron 883 2016 I was Changing my handlebars and when i plugged the controls i switch 1 wire from its place the pin should be on left i put it in right when i started the bike it gives me the closing sound then the security sys came on i pulled out the main vuse and got the key fop and then it quite . i repins it and fixed that wire it comes from the right control and it's 1 wire goes in that plug but now it won't start at all no security light too it's like dead . the vuse is good i chked it what could be wrong bcm ? Or there something else ? Now with all connected the bike is dead
I was chatting with this guy over a cup of splosh about my bike at the Route 59 bikers cafe when I happened to mention upgrading my callipers to blue spot and to my surprise he had a complete bike for sale with these on and numerous other upgrades for a hundred quid minus the engine. He kept saying putting the blue spots on with drastically improve your breaking marc. Thought I would leave you with this verse from the good book reminded of the words at the start of the video. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: Ecclesiastes 3:3
Heh heh heh; 500 yrs ago, test riding a brand new 900 SS near Dorking, gently kissing the brakes ready for the first roundabout, I was then forced by abject terror to coast to a stop a.s.a.p just to check the pads WERE in the right way round . . . yep, fine & dandy. The workshop read my face & burst out laughing before I even spoke - "Ah, you are no longer a sintered-pad virgin then, - noisy eh? - not bad once they bed in - white, one sugar?" : )xx
Nice video George, i put in front in my sporster iron xl883 n this EBC duble H breal pads but after 3000 Km the pads has whistle continuously if the wheel was turning, and they were not crammed with anything. I bought the original pads from Harley ones and the whistling has stopped !
@@furiousjammin1985 I put a copper grease but nothing ... after 3000 km i change again the front pads with original and i clean all copper grease because the dust has sticks in pistons and destroys the break seals.
I like dot 5 in purple. It just looks great. 😊 And its not as bloody hateful as dot4. Its a shame it's not interchangeable. I noticed watching tatro, most of his harley brake work is silicon. Be it complete new systems or a lot of existing repairs or overhauls. But not all. Anyway im just waffling now! Long and short , i like dot 5 if and when its doable. ( caviats at the ready ) 😂 Peas n loaf to you both ! ✌️ ❤️ 🤗
Hope the pads do improve your brakes, I used them all the time on my bikes over standard pads and they definitely work better, the only down side is the discs tend to wear a bit quicker. Looking forward to your next video. Have a great week and see you Friday. 😊
Sure thing mate, a little more wear on the discs, but in theory with correct use of brakes, it should be minimal if the efficiency is improved, as you brake less and it's obviously a worthy trade off! Have a great rest of the week, ride safe!
Wonder how much of a Hall Effect that copper Pad generates against the steel disc. I also use Copper Pads on all my vehicles and have often wondered how the Hall effect helps in braking if it even is present at all.
I noticed the aftermarket rear disc. It’s too bad the factory discs are so ugly. Stainless rotors were the first upgrade to my 05 FXD. And no reflection on you sir, but those calipers are hideous. Way different than mine, what year is your bike?
Aren't they just buddy, like something off an old truck! The bike is 1998 (but a 1999 model), but I think I've seen these calipers on 1970's Shovelheads, so perhaps they were just using them up lol
Awesome video brother! Yes indeed those brake pads are great, I have used that brand and it's always good ! Cant wait for the next video brother ! Keep up the great work ! Stay safe guys cheers from New York !!!🎉🎉🎉
Hi Del, Question, doesn't the outer pad on the cylinderside need to be under tension of the springlip? Keep up the good work man! Like your video's! What did you or do you do for a livin? Just curious, because you seem to know a lot about bikes 😂. Greetz from the Netherlands
Good upgrade talking of brakes rolled the zzr1100 rat bike out today rear brake need doing as been sat for 6months 😅 time to work on her ready for autumn
What about disc wear with sintered pads? Will the discs need replacing sooner than with stock? Or is it a case of better to need to replace the discs than your underwear?
Naturally, the laws of physics etc.. yes there will be slightly increased wear to the disc in return for the increased drag. but it's minimal and well worth the trade off.!
Hey buddy. I did a lot of self guided learning on calipers a while back so please accept this with a grain of salt. If you have a single piston caliper, let’s say the piston is 25mm diameter, then the area of that piston that is available for the brake fluid to exert force on would be 490mm2. If you changed to a multiple piston caliper with the same area, then the stopping force would actually be the same. Say the was 2 x 12.5mm diameter pistons for the sake of this post. Now… if you increased the effective area of the brake pistons, say 2 x 20mm diameter pistons, your caliper would be able to deliver more stopping force. HOWEVER, if you don’t change the brake master accordingly to match the increased piston area, your braking performance would actually get worse. You’re just not delivering enough pressure to the increased piston area with the stock master cylinder. Again, if someone smarter than me can explain better, no problem but I know this much, this is why Brembo sells different sized masters for those of us that upgrade our calipers.
Wise words indeed and very correct, something I've always said in response to the question of buying aftermarket 6 pot calipers, no use having them if you don't match the pump to push them... thanks for your input as always my friend.
Nice video Del & Penny. Excellent job mate, the older Harley brakes are a bit on the crap side, you have to make a calendar date to stop LOL. Penny and you enjoy the last part of your week. Cheers
Yes sir they take the nominal Harley brakes and turn them into the next level. I don't care if they wear out quicker or wear out the rotor quicker, what is your life worth that is the question. Cheers keep them coming

Put a dab of copper grease on the rear of your pads. The noise is caused by vibration, and the copper grease stops/absorbs the vibration.
