  • How To, Harley Road King Rear Brake Pad Install. This is how to install new pads on Harley Touring bikes with solid rear calipers and floating rotors. 2000 - 2007 models this will work on. Much easier than you would think, by using thin pin to align brake pads. This method will help a lot. Seeing it in action helps make it a lot clearer.
If you have any Questions just ask.
Step 1 Remove master top cover, Compressed the caliper pistons fully so the pads have room to remove and install.
Step 2 Align the pad on the rotor using the rivets as I show. It's the same alignment for both the inner and outer pad.
Step 3 Hold the pad in place and rotate the rotor toward the front of the bike. Use thin pin to start with to align brake pads, Then use stock pins to finish. You will find this little trick will help a lot.

Great video. Would like to add ,,,, for those who are having trouble compressing the inner piston. Use a wood shim and push it in from both ends. This will help with the reach. Worked for me. Can't take credit for this fix as I gave up yesterday,,, and read it on a harley forum.

I usually change my pads when I put new rubber on but last time I put shitty pads on and they didn’t last as long so I had to do them earlier. I was pissed I would have to deal with taking the wheel off just to do the pads so I did it YOUR way and it only took 20 minutes. I’m thrilled that now I’m just gonna change them as needed and not every time I change the tire. THANKS ….YOU ‘DA MAN!

I have a 2003 sportster that has that one piece caliper on it. I change out the brake pads when I change out the tires. I have one of those motorcycle lifts it works great. I did not know you could change the brake pads without taking the axle shaft out to remove the caliper. Thanks for the video and I like that your videos are in real time. I’ve owned the bike since new and I do all the work on it myself. It has been very reliable never had problems with the bike. I follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual and also have a Harley Davidson maintenance manual for the bike on a memory stick also loaded on the computer. I print off pages that I need like torque specs and diagrams and keep them in a three ring binder for a quick reference.

ANOTHER ONE of your videos to help me out!! Last month the rear wheel and axle, this week brake pad with the same non detachable caliper I have. I swear you're making these videos especially for me!!! Too funny. Ive' also got to do the front pads, which on my year Dyna are supposed to use the same pads front and rear. Not on mine! I have a vintage 97 ? thru ?? Single piston caliper that use the rounded shaped pads. They look a lot easier to do than the rear!! So thank you for the great videos!!

      @@TwoWheelRocco hey Sir,
After changing the rear brake pads even wenn i dont use the rear brake. It gets warm not hot but still. And when i slowly move the bike without the motor running. I can hear a slight scratching sound. Is that because the pads are new or can i adjust the space from the disk to the pads, like with a bicicle. Sorry for my bad english. I am from the Netherlands. Hope to hear from you.

    • @TwoWheelRocco

Your pads need to seat. Keep an eye on it. It should quiet down. There is no adjustment. Warm but not hot is normal. Hard braking and it will be hot..Let us know how it works out.
