RuneScape private servers can lead to receiving a permeant ban or mute on your RuneScape accounts. This video is solely for entertainment purposes. All of the names and sites I mention in this video are long gone or have no active communities. Today RuneScape Private Servers are insanely complex with features that rival the official version of the game. However it wasn’t always like that. Private Servers had to start somewhere and the beginnings weren’t pretty. In today’s video we’re going to explore RuneScae’s first private server and how it spawned one of RuneScape’s biggest underground markets.

Colonello I read a few of your responses to people saying that there wasnt much history left on the topic of private servers, just as an idea for you: you could dabble in the different client types, from the creation of project insanity, to the 317’s and 562’s, 718’s and everything after and in between. There’s a lot of good info and history on the old dev websites like rune server. Although none of my servers were ever big, I have nostalgia from just coding different things like quests, bosses, and trying to fix all the broken skills and minigames in the trashdump of 317’s and then talking about it all with the osps dev community. Its actually what got me into programming which I am now in my last year of university for, but theres lots of info on private servers it just takes some digging, theres even still private servers currently being developed for Rs3 as well as osrs and even rs classic! Also, he shows access to source files, there's shit spawned everywhere, there's talk of cheating with RuneScript, why is that one random fact not just be implied?

I realize this video is a few years old but I was intimately involved in this community so thought I’d point some things out.
The Moparscape client did indeed begin as a cheat client. It was mopar’s version of SytheScape (yes the cheating forum). SytheScape and the moparscape client’s main advantage over the legitimate RS client was it allowed you to save your camera position on logout and more importantly it disabled the small color changes, unique to each client startup, that Jagex had implemented to deter color bots like SCAR (AutoRunes immediate successor).
Additionally, WaffenDennis actually did most of the original deob work that moparisthebest eventually built moparscape from. Although, later on, mopar did create his own deobfuscater. WaffenDennis was one of only 2 or 3 administrators of the original moparisthebest/moparscape forums and much like the other administrators (other than moparisthebest himself) he didn’t stay around long but retained the role for his role in the scene. Most of the original site admins were former admins of the kaitnek forums.
I’d love to ramble more if anyone is interested. I also am in touch with most of what remains of the kaitneks and moparisthebest communities if you are ever interested in doing an in-depth video on the topic @Colonello, I can get you in touch with the people who kicked the scene off way back then.

JB95 wasn’t very legendary, the first NR wasn’t released till a lot later after the first private servers were a thing
I helped write NR back in like 2008. I also have a custom 2011 rs remake and two flyff pservers as well now days. NR was fun back in the day, shithouse now though 😂😅

Omg that loading screen takes me back... I must've been around 10 years old when I first played private servers and tbh I loved them. I didn't have the knowledge as a kid to actually do quests and stuff but pking was fun and just training, buying stuff and making friends/money along with pvm.. I played more RSPS than runescape once they took free trade out. Excited to watch this, I'm surprised I haven't already.
Godzhell and Runesky has to be my most favourite ones. Godzhell because it was just pure chaos and Runesky because it was a very unique take on Runescape,
Runesky was my shit. Farming Zammy for dragon claws was the best

Are private servers still a thing, with the introduction of unrestricted servers in osrs? The only private server I played on was the famous RuneScape 2006 server that was huge in 2011-2012 before Jagex took it down.

Huh, are the actual game assets and maps stored client-side rather than server-side then?
I use to play on private servers back in 08/09 because as a 8/9 year old kid I was wanted membership, 99s and dragon armour but had no real understanding of the game so no idea on how to achieve it in the real game (which I played at the same time) they were fun!
Man do I miss the og moparscape client. I was geeked when I could play members and get gear like that.

ROFL at that disclaimer. I can count on one hand the number of malicious servers I've seen versus tens I have looked at that are absolutely nowhere near malicious and contain zero malicious code. I know you had to put that disclaimer up because of Jamflex to discourage players but still as an actual Java developer it did make me laugh a considerable amount.

I remember playing one, it may have been Moparscape, idk. But the designated PKing area was on the island of Miscellania lol, and you could wear any gear you could ever dream of. It was good practice for the real game.

Do a pt2. There's so much history in the private server community, both good and bad. As someone who has played them since around 2007, I've so many great and also so many terrible things lmao. Would make for a great video. Don't get me wrong, this one was very interesting and well put together however I do believe you could do so much more with the topic!

RSPS taught me how to code when i was 11 years old. It helped a lot that my dad was also a software engineer... what a time in life.

I used to play on moparscape... It was kinda nice to get everything so easily, and the fact that I was playing with a friend and discovering everything was really nice. At the time I used to play f2p in the original game, so being in touch with the p2p content for free was awesome. Anyway, didn't stay for long in the game, because the fun quickly disappeared since there was no real difficulty.
Omg.. I feel 10 again, I remember all-star scape.. and moparscape, oh and cammy pvp.. servers like that will have a place in my heart!

I miss those days. 2005 playing mithscape / uber (Dodian) server when all servers were based at Varrock East bank & the dummy training room. The doors were coded to train strength Xp, the dummies trained attack xp, and the hay bales trained defense xp.
Extremely fun times in both real rs and p servers
Then there was the first PvP servers with Cheezscape 80,
Default port was 43594, which was regular CheezScape, simultaneously the owner hosted a PvP server on port 8080. That was beginning to be used around the community for pk servers & hence the nickname Cheezscape 80.
Ancient magicks were released and took a while to integrate the spells into p servers. Blahblah
My buddy played MoparScape, which seemed sketchy. He’s now dead from a bad batch of heroin.

that’s crazy how the RSPS 2007Scape made Jagex realize that they should just remake their own game again.
I remember when no one could figure out how to add new items or models, so fremmy capes were “skillcapes” and ogre comp bows were “dark bows”. Then silabsoft launches the first client promising untrimmed hp capes and dark bows. I believe she designed the models painstakingly on her own and added them into her client. It didn’t actually create new items, but changed the model client side. If you logged in on a moparscape client, for example, you’d see a fremmy cape instead of hitpoints cape. The day silabsoft launched was almost too good to be true. I remember seeing all these servers advertising d bows and untrimmed hp capes if you used their client and thinking it was a key logger. That was a big break through in the private server world. Now there’s servers that aim for realism at faster speeds for people that want somewhat of a challenge, comparable gameplay to osrs, experience end game content, but just don’t have the time. Some private servers can be dangerous, yeah, but most aren’t. Just don’t use the same passwords you use anywhere else since the databases get leaked a lot and always be careful what you download. Seeing as a lot of servers take in thousands per month in donations, risking their reputation to hack a few accounts isn’t worth it. It’s a fun way to burn some time while afking on rs, IMO.

I played on a whole bunch back in 2007 as they were so much fun, I remember even creating my own along with my cousin. We didn't use it as a way to hack players or infect them with viruses but instead to just have fun to see what our official accounts could be. MoparScape was always sketching and I remember using a client called Silab Soft (C&D back in 2009) as it was much safer and wouldn't cash as often.
I remember when private servers didn't even resemble the actual runescape map... they were all custom and had custom items xD

I play Scaperune, which is almost the most vanilla RSPS out there. Dedicated developers are focused on re-creating the authentic 2007 experience. Everything is coded from scratch, and the community is so very sweet.
Scaperune is dead lol, vscape is way further ahead now.
i remember trying to get on moparscape back in the day, and being completely unable to except for one time. it was one of the first versions with the background with the two cars. i thought it was some kind of singleplayer runescape where you could spawn stuff in and do whatever you want. i don't really know how i got on that one time.

Two weeks after I graduated school I found myself in a world of shit in Fort Benning, GA. A small glimmer of pastime happiness was talking about Runescape with a good buddy from Africa (Cape Verde, but immigrated to RI). We would talk about it nearly every chance we had. We would sit on Sundays at our wall lockers and create Goal Lists for our new accounts on Battlescape we would make when we get out. This is in mid 2013 about 3-4 years after I stopped playing RS, but always dabbled in RSPS if they were good, with the hope of RS one day returning back to its roots (Old School). We kept our goals & promises to play together, first on Battlescape and then on OSRS. My Buddy had troubles meeting his RS goals a few months after we left OSUT due to being shipped to the Afghanistan so I'd send him care packages and we'd talk it up about RS every couple weeks when he had time. Runescape & RSPS discussion and playing helped keep us happy and motivated through shitty times and good times.

I remember playing Moparscape once or twice back in the years. Buried some ogre bones for 8k prayer exp and could dual wield dragon 2Hs. Then still died to a Varrok guard because I was like lvl 5.
I remember a hard core economy server that launched through the mopar client where the starting town was yanille...
The economy was so locked down that you could sell GP for real $$$... best server I've played... sad I don't remember the name of it :/

Can u look into the servers that alter the code of osrs n rs servers. So say you have bronze axe u can use this server to make it code to dragon axe and then you can sell the axe on ge as a dragon axe instead of bronze. Even though it is bronze

Ahh, frugooscape. Good times playing that P Server. Trying to spawn anything you could find on Item DB. Who remembers Rune-Dayz though? Located at varrock and was a replica of the HD version, with dragon claws and such. That was amazing.

Silabsoft made it mainstream I think. It was the client that introduced a lot of the 2007 mechanics (skillcapes, godswords, etc) and really made it huge.
I remember moparscape :) when i was a kid i had downloaded and edited my own server i always wanted to share it but at the time i had no internet so it was my only way to play rs without really playing it i had modded some items like a torags helm with a santa hat on it as well as dh/ torags legs it was some fun for sure and it felt nice to be able to spawn in a party hat when they were way beyond my reach, one private server i had played offered god scimitars and they were sick as hell they had all these special items that were never released on the real rs that server i spent days working on it was so enjoyable even with only a few hundred people playing it
I think I played like every single rsps imaginable: Soulsplit, hackscape, moperscape, Silab, Reckless PK, Runique, ikov. The rest I cannot even recall anymore :(
