THIS IS IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. If anyone has been watching them FOREVER, they would know and understand their dynamic. First of all, they have known one another for a VERY long time. Second, they have been together for a long time. Joe is always reserved and cool. If Joe wanted to take a solo vacation, he could as could Alena. They balanced one another out well. Love this family. They have made a very nice life for themselves ❤
This is weird. Looks like she’s creating problems for no good reason: nameless, passportless babies and potential for husband to be nabbed into military service for two years. Felt strange. Anyway, they Alena enjoys having a lot on her plate.
While all you said is true, it did seem like he would've been excited for a solid trip as a surprise. I don't think he's sad, but him noting that the kids would be there stood out to me. I could be wrong though.

Questions like being enlisted in the Korean military should have been sorted out before making plans for the whole family. I can see why Joe isn’t enthusiastic or overjoyed by this well meaning surprise.

Exactly. They have stated multiple times that they have known each other for a long time even before getting married. If they didn’t wanna be together, they wouldn’t be. Joe is just not super expressive like that, he already said it multiple times over the years. People want them apart so bad because they don’t understand how Alena and Joe’s personalities don’t clash.

Alena is absolutely correct about the mandatory military service. The family registry is a whole thing in Korea. My brother was drafted even though our family renounced our korean citizenship.

Joe needs a trip by himself! I love traveling alone, and used to do that when I was married, with a family too. We were petty poor, but I used to save up for a year in advance, just to get that trip on my own, to gather srength and energy , for the coming year. It definitely looks like he needs it!

Why should just the husband get a trip? Many husbands use that as an opportunity to cheat. They never allow the wives to go by themselves because they are afraid of something. Mothers need time away from the kids too and its better that both spouses go together.
So for those who might not know: Koreans citizens that have dual citizenship have the option of choosing to get rid of their Korean citizenship or keeping their Korean citizenship when it come to military. The only idol I know about so far that keep is Korean citizenship and went to the military is Ok Taecyeon of 2pm. ( The military is in a haywire right now though cause two huge things happened surrounding it)

I hope she reads all these comments and has a conversation with him. I can so relate to the need to be alone with my husband without the kids. It is a challenge with little ones. I only have 3 at home. They have 8? He does look like he wants/needs alone time. If it is possible, I think she should really look into it.

Some folks hold a different opinion, but we are all at liberty to express our views without aggressively singling folks out. So I just choose not to engage with virtual warriors 😅.

My husband is Egyptian and we had the same concerns about mandatory military service when our son went to visit in his 2os, but he is a dual citizen and the only son so he was exempt. But he was questioned a little when leaving.

I feel like a trip to his parents home land with them first would be best for him or going solo before taking his family. But I think it should be his choice, without the pressure of surprise. Leaving in two weeks might be considered pressure. He may want to do some family investigation before the trip. He might need to be able to take the excursion in at his own emotional pace. Children and their needs always come first when vacationing with them and it it is challenging. In this situation it would be nice if he could put himself first.
He definitely seemed less than enthused when he saw it was a trip for the whole family.
And then all the issues presented immediately after…it feels stressful for me and I wasn’t in the car. Lol
