You kept saying you felt bad for the fish so just an fyi for proper trout handling, if you care, rubber net is great for keeping them off the ground and going crazy dangling on the hook. And wet your hands before handling trout to protect their slime coat, slime coat keeps them alive and healthy. Also that 4000 reel is a little big for trout. I would stick with 2500 and below. I stick with 1000 size for creeks and streams. Those numbers are size not line capacity. Nice job 👍🏼. Love a cute girl that fishes.

You can save money on trout bait by going to Petco, they sell night crawler, superworms (giant mealworms), wax worms, and regular mealworms for very cheap compared to tackle shops.
Also, for trout aim for rod and reel that's between 2-6 lb. Rooster Tail lures (there's a huge variety of colors) are also tried and true for trout.
Edit: Those were some nice native trout! Congratulations!

For trout fishing usually go size 500-1000 reel on an ultralight rod and 2-4 lbs test line is best(6lbs can work but depending on water conditions trout can see the line).

For trout you can go a bit lighter in general. 1000-2500 with a light or ultralight.
Makes throwing small lures easier. A medium ugly stik is pretty light compared to most though so it works fine for lighter stuff.

Went trout fishing on the Huron River today, you both did better than me! 1 rainbow and 2 got off. A couple things to try next time; 1. Bring a net, or back away from the bank dragging the fish when you are landing trout so don't shake the hook out. If you noticed, they can shake the hook if you lift them out of the water. 2. When you release trout, move them back and forth in the water till they swim off, that way they don't get disoriented and out of breath like the first fish. And last, if you get snagged, don't yank on the pole, the hook will get more stuck. try plucking your line gently like a guitar string and there's a good chance the hook will pop out of the log/whatever. Have fun with your new gear!

@briannayoutt Another thing you can try if you're hung up, is to let out line and let it be carried downstream. The resistance of the line to the current pulls from a different angle. This works especially well in creeks with rocky bottoms.

Also if you’re your planning to really get into freshwater fishing and specifically targeting trout then I highly recommend getting a utility tray with lures called rooster tails because rooster tails are really good for trout.

You picked out a decent all around rod, reel and line. When I used to use a spinning rod for trout I preferred something lighter, including a tiny Shimano reel, but that set up will work for a broad range of fishing. As someone else mentioned, the reel was quite large, especially for stocked trout. Just as an FYI, technically what you bought was a fishing rod, not a pole. A fishing pole typically doesn't use a reel and the line is tied onto a single tip top guide.

so reel size is for the size rod you are going to fish with. for trout you want light action, light or ultra light power so you can feel their bites. for instance you want a 4-5ft light action, ultra light power fishing rod, you would pair that up with a 1000 series reel. your best bet is go to bass pro shop that's near you or a reputable tackle shop to help you get a decent set up. tell them your budget and they will pair everything up so it is a balanced set up for the fish you are targeting. they will also tell you beginner baits to use and how to rig them up. also youtube will have thousands of videos on how to set up for the fish you are targeting.

FIRST OFF I LOVE THIS!!!! second off if i may give just a tiny bit of advise i know you didn't ask for it but when trout fishing its extremely great/good practice to wet your hands before handling the fish. you see trout have a protective slime coat on their body and if you use dry or semi dry hands its disrupts the coat and potential death or harm to the fish (unless its being kept of course) other wise i love to see more females in the sport it makes me so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Add some finger nail clippers to your kit to clip the line instead of using that razor blade. I just drove through the area where you went fishing a couple of days ago. i fish the area south of there quite often but have also fished nine mile.

To handle trout you have to make sure your hands are wet. Most states require a trout stamp/liscense. Also you must use barbless hooks. Fines are expensive. Read your State Fishing regulations and you will know the laws. Happy fishing

Awesome video, but please, please don't handle the trout without getting your hands wet first. Especially if you are not going to keep them. Trout are some of the most fragile fresh water species. I sometimes try to unhook them without even touching them. Beautiful fish, though, and it's awesome that you and your sis got to go fishing. You could probably go with a 2-4lb rod with light action and a small ultralite reel. Also, make sure you have a license and a trout stamp if needed. Game Wardens ain't no joke. Lol

🎣 if you have a Cabela's anywhere near you, you could go up there and get a rod and reel combo between $30 to $45 .00, it depends what you're looking for. I got a trout rod and reel combo for $35.00. still have it after 4 years and it works great.
    Great video here
