Usually only people in their twenties/thirties can achieve this kind of intensity. By the time you're in your forties and upwards, it's more like, "Okay, Baby, don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out..." But I agree, GENIUS.

I was in the audience for this. We had no idea who Alanis Morissette was (I don't think anyone did at this point), and I remember being terrified by the intensity on stage. It was loud, angry, and passionate as can be, and watching this now, I realize I witnessed an epic musical performance. This is awesome, and I wish I had been able to appreciate it at the time, but I'm not sure Alanis wanted it that way. I think she wanted to scare us. She did.

She performed it so soon after the initial "influence" that you can see the emotional volcano of eruptions coming out. Unbridled anger, resentment, sadness & betrayal to the point where she was almost crying while belting it out. Her facial expressions, body language & tone of voice say it all. That was no act. Yup. I didn't watch Letterman every night, but was watching it that night, and it transfixed me. I was glued to the screen--I'd never seen such raw anger in a musical performance. Of course looking back at it all these years later as the father of a young woman that is about the same age she was then, all I can think is: WTF did you expect was going to happen when you shacked up with a guy who hasn't married you and hasn't committed to having children with you? Duh... The poor girl needed some brothers and a father who would have spotted the dude as being bad news... But she made a butt-load of money out of being dumped for a younger woman, so it didn't turn out all that badly for her.

The best songs are deeply personal. I'd hate to be the guy who pissed her off.

She must really love her some corny humor and cartoon impressions....and hockey. I have have 4 little kids that love that show in 2018. Much more wholesome than anything else on nowadays.

This was my first exposure to Taylor’s drumming back in the day. Loved jamming to this album (some of the lesser known songs were fun as hell to play as well). RIP
