I am so glad you showed how you did this! I saw the "shorts" clip and loved all of the colors and was hoping you might give us a hint. Just beautiful! I love, love, love all of the colors. Your final piece is just beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
I created the hummingbird and then tack fused it. Then I full fused two layers of glass. After the base was full fused I placed the hummingbird and flowers on top of the glass and again tack fused. I then slumped the final piece in the tray mold. You could probably skip the first tack fuse and just design on the full fused base - and then tack fuse everything. However, sometimes little bits of frit will bounce - and I wanted to make sure my birds were tacked in the design that I was happy with. It takes a lot of steps to do it this way, but in the end I was happy with how it turned out. I have a Paragon Fusion 19. The shelf is 17" x 17". Happy fusing!!
I don't have a pattern to share but if you find an image of a hummingbird (or anything really) online - you can print it on your printer (it doesn't have to be in color). Using tracing paper, just trace over the image and transfer it onto thinfire. Then you can use that drawing as a guideline.
What are the dims of the French vanilla and clear? Is the clear on top? Do you use a good amount of the clear transparent frit to hold the bird together
The dimensions of the french vanilla and clear each are approximately 7" x 14". I used Bullseye Rectangle Slumper. I put clear on top of the french vanilla just in case the colors reacted - the clear prevented any reactions. Here's the link to the slumper I used. shop.bullseyeglass.com/rectangular-slumper-148-x-74-in-38-x-190-mm If you make a similar project I'd love to see your work. Post it on my facebook page (facebook.com/redlanternglass) or email me at redlanternglass@gmail.com. I'd love to see work inspired by my projects! The hummingbirds themselves are very thin but as long as you have glass touching eachother and you use a low tack fuse, it will stay together. Then you will full fuse your base layer, tack fuse your designed piece, then slump into the mold. Be sure to anneal for the right amount of time (based on the thickness of your project). I held my anneal time for 2-3 hours. Here's the chart I use. www.bullseyeglass.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/annealing_thick_slabs_fahrenheit.pdf
Hola! I'm using ThinFire shelf paper. I lay the glass on top of the ThinFire paper and then tack fuse. Here's more information on Bullseye ThinFire if you're not familiar with it. www.bullseyeglass.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/thinfire_shelf_paper.pdf You could also use Papyros kiln shelf paper if you prefer. Happy fusing!
These videos would be much better if the resolution wasn't so poor. You're work is worth recording at higher resolutions so we can see the details better.
I think I replied to your question about a pattern but if not, you can use any image and trace it with tracing paper. Then transfer that image onto thin fire or papyrus paper to use as a guide. If you have a light table it will help you transfer the image.

I love it! How did you get it from the paper to the top of the glass? What size kiln do you have?

Most beautiful humming bird I have seen. Do you have a pattern for the hummingbird shape?
