Red Lantern Glass
United States
Приєднався 28 тра 2021
Glass art has always fascinated me. As a young girl I remember watching a flameworker create a beautiful glass ship with small loops of clear glass. Later I learned he was using a loop stitch technique. That experience pushed me to take a lampworking class at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York in 2004. In that class I learned about the various kinds of glass, how to melt glass using a torch, including the loop stitch, but also how to create beads and small blown ornaments.
A few years later my husband and I learned the art of glassblowing. We traveled to Chicago, Seattle, and again to Corning to learn as much as we could, as often as we could.
In 2018 I started creating cast and kiln-formed glass art. I primarily create functional art (dishes, vases, bowls), but I also enjoy making glass jewelry and home decor. This channel will highlight projects that I'm working on using cast and kiln-formed techniques.

Fused Glass Mushroom Cap Project Ideas
There are several project ideas for glass mushrooms on the web, but I thought you might enjoy seeing the different types I’ve recently made.
The materials and tools that I’ve used for most of the mushrooms shown in this video are listed here. To cut my larger circles I used a circle cutter, but if you don’t have a circle cutter you can easily trace a circle onto glass and then using your hand held glass cutter - slowly cut along the line.
The great thing about mushrooms is that you don’t need a perfect circle. If you’re just starting out, this is a great way to practice cutting circles and not worry about perfection. Once the mushroom cap drapes you can’t tell if there’s a small imperfection. I think this is a great way to use scrap glass as well - because you can make mushrooms in all different sizes, with a variety of colors and materials.
You’ll see that I’ve listed sheet glass, pre-fired dots, coarse frit, powders, and glass adhesive to keep the dots in place, under Materials. Then when I assembled the mushroom caps I used wood and two-part epoxy to hold the stem in place. You can find wood dowels at the hardware store in a variety of sizes. Or, I’ve seen people use copper tubing for the stem. You can be creative with whatever you have on hand.

Glass Hearts | Fused Glass Cut Strips Scrap Glass
Переглядів 2,6 тис.8 місяців тому
Today I’m making glass hearts using small pieces of sheet glass. The glass I’m using is Bullseye Glass in Petal Pink, Red, and a little left over white streaky with pink, and pink confetti glass. Anytime I have a strip of glass that is at least 1/2” wide, I’ll set it aside for making this type of heart. In the example I’m showing here, you’ll see that I’m cutting the glass square 5/8” wide x 5/...
Glass Hearts in 9 of Hearts Casting Mold Fused Glass Project
Переглядів 1,6 тис.8 місяців тому
I’m using the 9 of hearts mold for today’s project. You’ve seen other artists using this mold and they each have their own fun way of making special glass hearts - and my way isn’t uniquely different, but I’m using up smaller pieces of glass scrap and rolled edges to share how even the smallest bit of glass that you have on hand can be used in a project like this, verses always having to use fr...

I cut @BullseyeGlass 3” x 3” squares for a single base layer and then decorated them with various designs using frit, stringer, chips of glass rods, and puddles. Once everything was assembled I tack fused the squares with their designs, then in a second fuse I slumped into the little molds.

I cut @BullseyeGlass red opalescent - in 3” x 3” squares for a single base layer and then decorated them with Christmas tree shapes. I used the same the frit mix that I showed you in my last video of the little Christmas tree ornaments. I’ll link that video in the description if you haven’t seen it yet. Off camera I also created dishes with birds on a branch with mistletoe for leaves. Once ever...
Little Christmas Tree Ornaments Easy Fused Glass Project
Переглядів 1,8 тис.11 місяців тому
@BullseyeGlass I had scrap clear and cutoffs from the bird plant stakes I made a few weeks ago that were the perfect size for little Christmas tree ornaments. I’m using Bullseye glass - my own green coarse frit blend for the trees, red coarse frit for the ornaments (or berries) and a red dot to hold the nichrome wire in place. I took these to a tack fuse. For my kiln going up to 1320 and holdin...
Coneflower Triangle Fused Glass Project
Переглядів 1,9 тис.11 місяців тому
This is a fused glass cone flower on @BullseyeGlass umber - a nice rich brown color. I had smaller pieces of marigold and sunflower yellow, orange, pea pod and some avocado green left over from the Halloween tray I made earlier this month. I didn’t make a video of the striped Halloween tray, but you can see it on my Etsy page. Just Google @redlanternglass and you’ll see the link to my Etsy page...

Thanks!
What was you schedule on this one if you dont mind. Really good definition with soft base edges. I like this
Thanks, the schedule I used was (in Fahrenheit) : 250. 1000. 30 min 300. 1340. 15 min Full. 900. 60-90 min depending on thickness 150. 700. No hold 200. 200. Off
You did a really Good job on this video Super helpful for my needs ❤ thank you
Thank you!
Hi. Do you mind if I ask what kiln did you use ? I haven’t draped much but I do have the molds. Thank you. Cute shrooms!
I use a Paragon Fusion 19. It isn’t deep enough to drape much bigger than a mushroom mold but it’s a great kiln.
Since watching your video, I’ve made two , similar because I used the bead and loop with a beaded handle, but different because I used a blue and green colour scheme of my own floral design. Thank you for your inspiration. They will be Christmas presents.
Wonderful! I’m so happy this project idea gave you inspiration!
I love the messages on the cards. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure!!

I am new to glass fusing. Could you tell me how you make all the pieces melt, and hold together please?
Welcome to the world of fusing! It's addicting :) If you can take a beginner glass fusing class, you'll learn a LOT of information on how to get started. I use a Paragon Fusion 19 kiln to fuse the glass. I am not a full-time artist so that size kiln works well for the number and sizes of projects that I make. You can find a lot of information online about glass kilns - but the resource I use the most for kiln information is www.kilnfrog.com. You can also find a lot of information here: glasscampus.com/tutorials.htm
. Thank you
Super cute! Definitely something I would want to make. Well done!
Thank you! 😊
Great Idea!! ❤
Thank you! 😊
Aaaaaadorable.!! Thank you for sharing! So nice of you.
Enjoy!
Love how they turned out! Nice job with the driftwood stems. ❤
Thank you! 😊
THOSE ARE SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE MUSHROOMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!
Do you soft fuse or full fuse them?
soft fuse, like a contour fuse, or however you like.
@@redlanternglass Thank you!!!🥰
Are you using a thin 2mm glass or regular bullseye?
I used 3mm Bullseye glass (two layers).
Approx how big do the .5 x .5 and .5 x 1 hearts come out after fusing
They stay fairly close to the 1" size. From left to right - the tops of the hearts are about 1-1/8" wide but the other dimensions are about 1". This is my favorite size to make.
Very cute.
Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much. I just started my second class on fusing and would love to do something similar. I think yours is Beautiful.
Thank you! Take your time, enjoy the process, and it will come together!
Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing and explaining!!
Thank you!
Were these done in a microwave kiln?
No, I’m using a glass fusing kiln (Paragon).
and the green?
Opalescent mineral green, Peapod, avocado and celedon.
what was the blue you used??
I used bullseye course frit in opalescent cobalt blue, glacier blue, light cyan, and dusty blue. It was just a mixture of blues that I had left over from other projects that I used in combination that I thought looked well together. But you can use any shade of blues that you prefer. I might’ve had added some powder blue opalescent as well.
Beautiful project 👏great job💐👍
Thank you!

So pretty and lovely, perfect for a spring brunch! I love Striking glass and have always had the very best results using Bullseye recommended 2 hour hold to get the best color/strike. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful! I haven’t made much with striking glass but it’s always so fun to see the color change. I find it so interesting that the color varies with the length of time held. Thanks for the feedback! I’m happy you enjoyed the video!
❤
Thanks so much for the info. i didn't realize that. lovely plates.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful! You’re welcome!!
Excellent💯👍👍
Thank you! ☺️
Hello, beautiful work. Both of the clear tecta were under the frits? Could you please add the firening scedule. Thanks a lot!
Thanks! Yes, both of the clear tekta sheets were under the frit. You could try using one layer of clear with a thicker layer of frit to achieve 6mm, but I wanted a thicker, heavier bowl so I used two 3mm layers of clear. I used a full fuse schedule with a bubble squeeze. Email me at redlanternglass@gmail.com for more information.
Where can I purchase a kiln like this/
There are a lot of options here: kilnfrog.com/ The brand I’m using is Paragon and it’s called Fusion 19.
Stunning! Thank you for showing your method!
My pleasure!
Great Ideas! ❤
Thank you! 😊
Lisa, those are all super cute and I really loved the main project. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you! So happy you like them! 🌷
This has been a big help. I'm fairly new to this and have the BE heart mold. The bottom is molded and I've been trying to figure out how to make that the top side because it is the top that is shiny and beautiful. I guess I will need to put the piece into a fire polish fuse to get the molded side pretty.
I have the same mold you’re referring to. I’ve fire polished them and it helped but mine flattened a little more than I would’ve liked. I like how the hearts come out of the 9 of hearts mold. I haven’t had to fire polish the 9. Happy fusing and thanks for sharing your ideas!
This is lovely
Thank you!
I love this piece. It looks like Spring!
Thank you!
You do really nice and beautiful work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s so nice of you to say! Thank you! ☺️
So pretty. ❤
Thank you! 😊
At 10:15, did you use a laser-printed fusible decal for the detail? Or was that done with a stencil and glassline paint (or similar) Thanks for the hint on how to make cute hearts!
I used rose murrini from GlassworksNorthwest on Etsy and pink leaves from Wilderness Glass wildernessglass.com/ After I assembled the heart I set a few pieces of the murrini on top and fired with the rest. You could use a number of floral designs. Happy fusing!
@@redlanternglass Thanks for the information!
Podría decirme cómo se llama la pinza para separar el círculo x favor??? Gracias 😊
Hola, I’m using Silberschnitt Glass Running Pliers for opening the circle.
Hello wonderful artist! Your creativity is amazing! You have talent! I give you the biggest like in the world (the size of Everest!) I wish you great success in promoting your creativity! With a friendly smile, Mr.Hi! :)
Thank you Mr. Hi! That’s so nice of you to say! Wishing you a great day as well!
@@redlanternglass You are welcome! An ocean of inspiration for you creative soul!
Hola .no veo como trasladarte el pájaro del papel al vidrio
Hola! I'm using ThinFire shelf paper. I lay the glass on top of the ThinFire paper and then tack fuse. Here's more information on Bullseye ThinFire if you're not familiar with it. www.bullseyeglass.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/thinfire_shelf_paper.pdf You could also use Papyros kiln shelf paper if you prefer. Happy fusing!
I love your flowers. They have so much character!
Thank you!
I'd like to know how to use those breakers. I bought a pair and can't cut one thing.
Are you having trouble with the grozer pliers, the running pliers that have the screw on top, the wheeled nippers, or the Silberschnitt Running Pliers to run the score of the circle?
Super cute! I am new to glass could you tell me did you make the black dots? And if so how... Thank you. I've made dots just not that small :-) Also what size stringers? THANK YOU!
Thanks! I used coarse black frit for the small black dots. I just full fused them with my other sized dots. If you don't have coarse frit right now, try nipping a few small pieces of black glass. The stringers came either from a seller on Etsy (JL Glass www.etsy.com/shop/jlglass) or Tabitha's Glass Emporium (www.tabithasglassemporium.com/). Be sure they use the same COE glass as you do. I'm working with Bullseye glass. Happy Fusing!!
Very interesting 😊
😊
Really nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!
They came out great. Thank you so much for sharing the technique and firing schedule.
Thank you, and you’re welcome!
Lisa, super cute! I am so glad you did this because I made some and they were a hair too wide. I had 5/8" x 5/8" and 1 5/8" long (rectangle). They were cute but I feel could have been better. I am going to try your measurement on the rectangle and see if I like those better. I am happy to see all of your videos. It generates a lot of inspiration ❤.
Great! I’m happy this helped! I also like how the smaller hearts (.5 x .5 and .5 x 1”) look. Happy fusing!!
Very cute! Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome!!
