Im not a hug fan of ebikes, but I do appreciate people doing what they like so I'm more fan of people progressing a sport that I like if that makes sense?.
Rich is a pinner! Well done man. Looks like a blast. I really like the power stage concept because tech climbs are one of the funnest things with emtb. I think they have to design them to give a guy a chance though. Rider with the best lines up wins the stage but most ride the majority if it. Maybe an alternate line for rain? Or avoid designing it on possible mud sections?
Love the concept...ive a dodgy leg that's probably only gonna get worse, so will look forward to getting an e bike to keep me out on the trails. And now with these events, I will get to race, Nice one!👍 BTW...the music really rocked!
Be interesting in 5 years how big a percentage of the mountain biking sales will be emtb can't wait to buy one next year I own a remedy now I am nearly 55 so I'll rotate between both bikes and my Cannondale topstone gravel bike
I kinda changed my mind on ebikes.. i see a lot of mtbikers in downhill areas using the bike and chair lift to get back to the top of the downhill track. Now, i saw some ebikers getting back up without the lift and on their bikes... Their effort is problaby higher.
Firstly Mr Payne, battered Snickers are far superior to battered Mars bars. Secondly if someone handed you a nice warm battered snickers half way through the day with rain on and the energy levels flagging - you'd be in heaven! Greetings from Inverness. :- p
Does it have regulations like how much power is allowed or the choice of motors? Well someone using the TQ 120 motor can easily smoke bikes with other motors.
They have 25mph limiters on it. It's more torque and range. Tourqe isn't always your friend going uphill on gnarly stuff, it's more of a power-gear management/endurance/ technical skill.
Have you actually ridden one? Especially on climbs? Racing is just who has the most overall speed achieved by refining a skillset. If you need to be good at DH and now going up hill on a DH course as well, it adds a entirely different discipline you need to be good at that is specific to that sport. Not sure I understand why the battery would take anything away from racing.. The most famous types of racing have PIT STOPS, people blow engines, tires.. It's no different than having to worry about a fork blowing out on you.
just as motocross is able to be regulated I don't see why ews-e cant be. although it may be very different from normal mtb it can definitely still have a place in racing.
as harder the smaller your motor, not gonna lie its kinda unfair, you have these big ass races but someone with a e bike with a smaller motor will be able to climp way less fast than you, and if you have a smaller batter gues what, the others can just ride in turbo the entire time while you are stuck in eco mode, another unfair advantage. and yes i know that there are simular advantages with less or more weight in normal EWS, but EWS-E has the weight difference too but combined with the motor and engine problems which is a big factor when so many stages involve extreme climbs, plus there have been complaints about bikes that had their speed limit removed so that they could go quicker than 25km/h which is illegal in the EWS rules and in national transport rules (some of these bikes can get 70+ km/h when you remove the limit..
Bollocks. Removing speed limit should be considered cheating, but the rest... Respectfully, bollocks. Do you really think, that same pro-rider on entry-fully for 2 grands will show the same time that he can show on top-tier mtb for more than 7-8 k during the EWS? The difference is not just in weight, it is in every element of the bike: brakes, gears, shifters, forks, rims, tires ... even geometry can play significant role, as it can affect progression of the suspension. And another question for a fun of EWS: Is new electronic suspension ok for EWS, or not ?
@@alexsevlan FYI, it is illegal to remove the speed limits, they jsut don't check it and don't have save guards against it so it just kinds slides past them first off it very important to notice that the difference between E bikes and normal bikes is larger, since normal bikes suffer from the same problems as e bikes (one with better brakes, suspension, etc), only e bikes have motors and batteries on top of that to make them even more unfair, so by nature e bikes will always be more unequal compared to each other than normal bikes. But regarding your thing about pro riders, pro riders are the one that have it least fair, my comment was actualy based of a discussion with a pro rider I know who is sponsored, e bikes (for EWS) are created realy unequal regarding motor size and battery size when looking at different brands, often they only have one model, and when you are sponsored you don't get to choose a bike with a larger engine and battery, they got to do with what they got. So pro riders no matter their budget will be more seseptable to this. But the major problem lies with preformance, yes normal bikes also have their advantages and disadvantages, but I don't think anyone would be super surprised if a rider wins a round of EWS on a 3k bike, the only suprise would be why he is not sponsored yet, preformance differences between bikes matter way less in normal EWS. But EWS E riders relie way more on the ability of the bike, if you put a rider on two different bikes and let him do the same lap 2 times the times would be fairly simular, do the same for a bike on turbo mode and one lap on eco and the difference is huge. but the biggest problem is thst all bikes are in the same groep, a 400 wh battery and a 200 wh battery race again each other, there should be different catagories for different bikes since they directly enhance the riders ability without having to put more effort I to it. You don't put a go cart against a f1 car, they deserve their own catagories, same with weight class's and mma/boxing, different sizes. And I think E-suspension is OK for now, I mean we have seen that live valve does not do much and that flight assistant does not even effect actual (non e bike) enduro preformance, I. E. downhill. And it does not give a major advantage, I mean you have the exact same thing on all suspension, a lock out, only its automatic, it does not make the suspension bunny hop or climb for you, its more of a convenience than a preformance gain for EWS racing. Ther is a reason why you don't see DH races with E suspension either, it does not help
@@shemshem9998 So much text and so little context... I'm well aware of all this legal aspects regarding e-bikes. In Germany, police will charge you several grands for removing speed limit. As it is just a question to organization of tournaments. As you can see most of the racing is on the downhill sections. There is a Power Stage, it's very technical! (As you can see as Rich had to walk some of it!)
It's no different to racing non e-bikes, better riders will be faster , being an e bike doesn't remove the need for skill ,Ive found that riding an e-bike on some trails demands more skill due to the extra speed .

Just a question- when does an ebike become a motorcycle?
(also motorcycle Enduro is tough)
When it's got a throttle. This is all leg power, the motor just assists you. You should try one if you haven't. Amazing advancement in biking
